I've been here about 3 times. The first time was a great brunch. I got the chicken sandwich. The second time I brought a friend and the quality definitely declined. I ordered the sandwich again but it didn't taste nearly the same. My friend also didn't enjoy her meal. I came a third time in February and me and my friend ordered a French Onion Soup. What a fun place! I camr here with my daughter and my friend. Le Pistol is right by Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and is a small French Bar with a restaurant with seating inside and outside. There is a bar as well. My daughter and I shared eggs with fruit, challah, and bacon. My friend ordered a shrimp dish. We also shared fries. Still love this spot. Came for drinks, dinner, and we were there for so long we ended up doing their late night happy hour, which starts at 9pm. While this place is adorable to look at, I found dining there to be not optimal. Let me start with the most positive aspect: the staff. Every single staff person was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and professional. The staff of this place gets five stars. I found the menu to be incredibly limited. And it's even more limited if you are not a meat eater. We had both vegetarians and meat eaters in our party and honestly, everyone was a little bit frustrated. There were vegetarian options on the menu, but they were all very similar. Lots of cheese and bread and pasta. By far the tastiest thing anyone ordered was the fried chicken. It was cooked to perfection. And the honey was the perfect touch. The dining room has some of the most uncomfortable furniture. The high tops have backless stools with little tiny seats. And the high tops themselves are so small. If you order more than one small plate, you literally can't fit the food on your table. If it weren't for the staff, I would have given this restaurant three stars. read more

We came on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. We arrived around 2:15. It was busy outside but inside, we were one of maybe three parties. We ordered A Classic Breakfast, 1 Flap Jack special of the day (blueberry), Salmon Toast and an ice coffee. I checked the time, it was 2:30 when we put in the order. Ice coffee didn't arrive until 3:00. By 3:15, I asked to check on our order. My two young sons were on their best behavior but they were already getting antsy. Our food did not arrive until 3:30. The most atrocious part of the whole ordeal was how terrible the food was. The pancakes (2 small pieces) were completely burnt on the outside, doused in powered sugar and raw on the inside. My sons were hungry and didn't even want to touch it. See photo. Thankfully, the manager comped the dish because I would be even more angry having to pay 15 bucks for that terrible pancake. I ordered a classic breakfast. It took the longest to come out of the kitchen and it was sooo insulting. It was completely tasteless. The so called "special bacon" was simply two pieces of pork belly tossed in the deep fryer. It was not seasoned at all. You couldn't even make it better with salt. It was so fried, nothing sticks on it. I felt like I was eating cardboard. The dish came with eggs so I asked for it to be scrambled and that's literally all I got. One scrambled, completely unseasoned egg that took over an hour to make. Challah toast wasn't even a full piece of toast. It was a quarter of a full piece. The dish came with raspberries and some orange slices. It was supposed to come with an avocado but it was missing. This insulting dish cost 18 bucks. That isn't all. After seeing us wait for so long, someone brought out some spicy crackers and orange slices for us. It was a nice gesture. He mentioned that the crackers were spicy because they sprinkled paprika on them. He completely forgot to mention that the oranges were soaked in red wine. At first I thought they were blood oranges so I allowed my four year old and two year old sons to have some. Nope they were wine soaked orange slices. Giving two stars for the kind, young waiter who seated us and helped comp our pancake. I also understand that it was a busy Saturday but our experience was beyond poor. I appreciate that they comped the pancake dish (that didn't get eaten) and the ice coffee. However, we still paid 40 bucks for two lousy dishes that took over an hour to arrive. I'm sure that's b/c its the windows not being stained glass anymore allows more light to come in. It feels very homey w/o losing style. I love a stool w/ a back b/c in my old age I need the support, so even though the bar stools don't have backs I'm still pretty comfy. 2nd- I wanna know who came up w/ the idea for Oxtail French dip Baguette? Came by spontaneously last week and was drawn in by the cute outdoor tables. They have a nice list of cocktails, beers, wines and also snacks. IRT, I ordered the same thing 3weeks consecutively, the Breakfast sandwich. Food was as expected, good (part of the meal was forgotten) bacon, easily retrieved. The server was cleaning tables & serving plates without washing hands. She was trying to look busy, before attending me, one of 3 guests present. Another server took my order & I'd really hoped he would deliver the food as the vibe I'm feeling from the lady server isn't good. Anyway I will try again because I like the spot, but not enough to deal with the situ as it is. Came here recently with a few friends. It was quite warm inside, which was a bit unpleasant. Service was friendly and helpful. I ended up ordering the happy hour special of a beer and a burger, as well as some happy hour fries. Overall, everything was pretty solid. The beer is smaller than a pint, but was still refreshing given the heat. I thought the burger was extremely flavorful. I came here with a few friends for some food and was pleasantly surprised to see there was a happy hour special, which we happily indulged in. At the time, the special was a beer and burger for $19, which was really good value. Just note, the beer wasn't a full pint. The burger was tasty as was the fries (which were also on happy hour). 1st Stop Found a hidden gem. It's called Le Pistol Bar & Cafe, when you check in it's called Sunshine Co.. When out of my comfort zone order a drink of there Drink Menu called the Violet (Vodka Based) - very good. Had the Brooklyn Best Burger (Fresh Smash Burger) with Home (Fresh Cut Fries) both were excellent. Friendly and Quick Service plus. It's not a bad spot for a quick drink - I opted for a kir royale and a French 75 - but is probably not a destination eatery or bar. Only commenting on dinner, as we didn't have drinks. This is the kind of place with a menu that sounds pretty good and prices that seem like they would be typical/acceptable, assuming the food is pretty good. But the food is so thoroughly mediocre, at that price point, it becomes an irritating experience. The fries (small basket for $6) were lukewarm--clearly had been sitting around. Why?? We were one of only two tables in the whole place. And the fries came out first, well before everything else (including the burger)... Is it that hard to get the timing right? On a slow night? Maybe they had extra sitting around from someone who had been in the restaurant before us? Confusing. The burger was a small $18 extra well-done (extra over-cooked, that is) smash burger with sweetened tomatoes (confit, theoretically) and cheese, in a potato roll or brioche--couldn't tell because it was smashed and dry. Why smashed and griddled hard in both sides like a panini? Was the bun stale? For $18, the cold fries couldn't have been included? The $16 kale salad came very lightly tossed in a simple vinaigrette, piled onto a little side plate with a small handful of candied walnuts and a few small cubes of totally unseasoned (unsalted, undressed) beets on top. This was not baby kale, but pretty firm, dry curly kale, stems and all. The $25 oxtail sandwich arrived not on focaccia as described on the menu, but on a baguette, with a side of rich beef consume for dipping. This was surprisingly good next to everything else. The wings were just six extra deep fried little wing halves plopped onto a plate for $15. Like, what? Literally like the 10 cent bar wings from back in the day. That's more expensive than Fish Cheeks wings, which can be had for $18 for 4 whole wings (8 halves, plus the little end wings for nibbling), plump and marinated and juicy and perfectly fried after being tossed in a special coating that makes them extra crispy, served with an incredible dipping sauce. The Le Pistol wings were as far from that as possible. My point here is this: you can't just cook something super mediocre and price it the same way super delicious restaurants are pricing things. The ingredients are not the same, the level of expertise and experience of the kitchen crew is not the same, the time going into preparing those dishes is not the same. The food pics from the first few months this place was open look much better than what we had. Maybe the chef left and now there's just a kitchen crew on their own? No idea--but what's coming out of the kitchen does not warrant the prices. Seems like this place either needs to seriously step it up in the kitchen or dramatically lower prices and let itself be a bar with a little food. read more

I have been peeking into this place for the last few weeks and was really looking forward to it opening. Needless to say, it did not disappoint! What a cute spot. We came to Le Pistol after walking down Washington, looking for a dinner spot and seeing how much that area has changed. So many places closed Le Pistol was a pleasant surprise. It's spacious yet quaint, which is hard to pull off in NYC. The menu is straightforward and lots on there I wanted to try! We ordered two dirty martinis and the salmon kale salad and veggie burger.
