Cafe Luluc is a neighborhood staple and has always been a go-to spot for brunch (though I have come for dinner in the past as well). Normally there is a lengthy wait to get in, but on this lucky Saturday morning we only had to wait about 5 minutes. I love the Parisian vibe here, which feels like you're transporting yourself to a classic French bistro. The service is attentive and friendly and there is an overall laissez faire joyous ambience here amongst all diners. We waltzed in with a Saturday morning craving for coffee, pancakes, and an omelette and Luluc delivered outstandingly. The pancakes are just perfect here. You can't get any better in the area. The omelette was also impeccable and flavorful. This is the brunch of champions and I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

This review is for weekday brunch. Overall I think this is a solid brunch spot. The pancake is on a lot of "best" lists - was it a life changing..? No, but if you like fluffier pancakes this is worth checking out. Came a little after 11am on a Monday and was seated immediately, but the restaurant was decently full. I can imagine this place getting really busy on the weekends. Things to Know: CASH ONLY. There is an atm located in the back of the restaurant. Restaurant is pretty small and intimate - definitely neighborhood diner vibes. Probably not good for larger groups. Food: I ordered the below: -Pancakes: a must order to at least try if you're dining for the first time since it's on so many "must try" lists. Comes with two. Fluffier, with a slight crisp on the outside. Not too sweet. Enjoyed. -Eggs Benedict Ham: not the best benedict - a bit lacking in hollandaise sauce. But it wasn't bad. Pretty standard - overall tasted like a benny should. Pancake was definitely the standout.

Finally pancakes, where you can add some protein without it being a whole separate meal! I tried a few of the top pancakes in the city this weekend and Café Luluc was my favorite. Although it was not drenched in iconic sauce, like some of the others, that crispy outside and soft inside, let the pancake shine on its own. They also weren't overly dense like some of the other others. I ate the whole thing and did not feel like a whale afterwards lol Now I wouldn't be opposed to a caramel drizzle or something, but overall, it was a solid, regular pancake, and without all the frills. I was able to walk in and get a table for one and was sat immediately. Service was friendly and quick, and the pancakes and sausage were delicious. My eggs were cooked perfectly. No complaints! It's only not getting a five because they weren't my favorite pancakes I've ever had but definitely a solid place that I would return to on a regular basis. But be warned it is cash only!

Genuinely the best restaurant pancakes I've ever had!!! Slightly crispy on the edges and soft and fluffy in the middle-- amazing. The interior is also cute and Parisian, and the service is kind. Cash only is a bit inconvenient but will definitely be back soon!

Great service; Busy place; Hugeee portion size! Lovely service and ambiance. Small area though when they have these many customers.

WOW, what a hidden CASH ONLY gem! Stumbled upon Cafe LuLuc while exploring the neighborhood, and I'm so glad I did. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, with dim lighting and comfy seating. But the real star of the show is the FOOD and DRINKS! Service was also top-notch - friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable staff made great recommendations and ensured our drink and food orders were to our full-satisfaction during both visits! Lastly, there's an ATM on the premises if needed and it'll charge you $2.75 which is very reasonable. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu! Sebastian, is super respectful and will try to get you seated ASAP. If there's a wait...take a walk across the street and visit the bookstore. There are plenty of good reads while you wait! Cheers - enjoy!

Ordered DD around 7:45PM. Pancakes with Fresh berries & Banannerss which was straight Fire along with scrambled eggs, perfecto y Avocado. Also chocolate cake, (yay)!! Everything was awesome delivery was smooth and ... I was TODAY years old when I learned how to package avocado so it doesn't show up at the door like bootleg Guacamole !!!! (see picture). You guys are genius. Salutes. See ya soon.

This is my favorite place to eat pancakes! Their pancakes are always consistently divine! Super crunchy on the outside & super fluffy and buttery on the inside. I also love their side order of sausages & egg, madame croque & pasta! P.S - Cash only. There is an ATM in the back (near the bathroom area).

The place is small and really cute. Pancakes were simple but done right and the sandwich was pretty good too.

This is a great spot. I highly recommend coming in the morning or early afternoon for brunch on the weekends. They don't accept reservations. We arrived at 11:45am and we were seated at noon. I loved the quiche that I ordered. It was well seasoned and filling. The salad was lightly coated with dressing. There is a reason why this restaurant has an extremely long line on the weekends.

A few bites into tortellini with chorizo and mushrooms.

I tried my first Aperol Spritz at CAFÉ LULUc today during a solo lunch treat. It tasted like something that should be used to clean tiles and counter tops. This was no fault at all of CL. I just really didn't enjoy that Aperol taste. I ordered tortellini with mushrooms and chorizo, tossed in a cheese sauce and sprinkled with grated parm. The pasta and mushrooms were sooo good! I should've skipped the tired chorizo which AGAIN, was not a chef's error. I keep trying to force myself to like chorizo because it looks and smells great in food but I just don't! There were a few things that bugged me-starting with bugs! Tiny little knats flying around gave me and another customer a bit of a rough time. This place is also cash only-like real, folding paper, cash only, which seems pretty outdated. The music was good though. Disco for the most part which went with the vibe. CAFÉ LULUc has been in my bookmarks since forever because of all the rave reviews about their pancakes. I should've just ordered the pancakes. Next time, I'll try the pancakes.

Open-Face Western Omelette, Lulucs French Toast
    Chelle L.

Came here for breakfast around 9:30 and it was already quite busy. We got the open face western omelette and French toast . The omelette was good but lacking in flavor. I added Tabasco which made it better. I liked that fries and greens that came with the omelette although the fries did taste old. The French toast was soft and dense and filled with Nutella in the middle. It was just okay though. Overall, the portions are good for the price. The inside has plenty of seating. The restaurant is light and airy. The service is okay, just no check ups after serving the food. The place is cash only but they have an atm.

Nice happy hour and a large chocolate drink selection I was at this unique Guatemalan (ish) restaurant a while back with one of my groups. I said "ish" because the menu has dishes from all over, ranging from sandwiches to BBQ ribs to Guatemalan and Mexican soups. It's out there, and even though not everything works that well, it's fun, and if you can't find something you want to order here, you probably shouldn't go out to restaurants. There was also live jazz music that night, which was loud but nice to listen to. Since it was happy hour, a bunch of us got drinks. I went with a maracuya margarita, which was decent; someone else had a jalapeño margarita, someone had a beer, and someone had a mojito. There were a few nice hot sauces on the table, with the red one reminding me of salsa macha as it had a smoky kick and a spicier green sauce reminiscent of ají verde. They gave us some complimentary blue corn chips and a very mild black bean dip, which was tasty enough and hard to complain about, as it was free. From the appetizers, we got the Hot Figs for $15.95, consisting of honey goat cheese, corn tortilla chips, and plum + pumpkin seeds. This was a unique and fun blend and reminded me more of something you would find in a wine bar. The mix of sweet and salty, with a bit of crunch from the seeds, was nice. This was good, and I would recommend it for a table rather than for a solo diner. There was also The Zingy Salad for $21.95, featuring zucchini spirals, yuzu, tomato, onion, cilantro, pumpkin seeds, and a jalapeño infusion. $18.95. The salad was fine with a bit of crunch and a mild spiciness. It was fine, though a bit wet, for lack of a better word. The best dishes of the night were the soups, which each had its own distinct flavor profile. My sight presence went to the Pepián for $21.95, consisting of chicken, pumpkin/sesame seeds, green tomatillo, cinnamon, cumin, black pepper, carrots, chili coban/pasta/guaque, and potato + rice. There was plenty of tender chicken inside, with the soup having a nice roasted flavor with some spice and a bit of sourness. The potatoes and rice on the bottom added more sustenance to this dish. Almost equally delicious was the Caldo Tlalpeño Rojo for a dollar more with shredded chicken, tomato, black pepper, garlic, onions, peas, chickpeas, corn, achiote, chipotle, Monterey jack cheese, and crunchy blue corn tortilla chips. By comparison, this was a bit heartier, with the melted cheese and shredded tortilla chips inside, similar to soups found in Mexican cuisine. While I also liked the mix of veggies a bit more in this one, as it added a bit more texture, I still slightly preferred the flavor of the other soup, as I usually prefer a bit more spice. The rest of the food was fine. The TPC sandwich for $19.95 with chicken, peanut butter, coconut cream, ginger, cilantro, pickled carrots, and lime was fine. For the number of ingredients, I found it a bit sweet, likely from the cream and the peanut butter mix. The bread was nice, but it also fell apart. It came with a nice side salad with a good vinaigrette. The most expensive at $24.95 were the Slow Cooked BBQ Ribs, consisting of baby back ribs with rice and beans. The ribs were almost a bit too tender as they lacked any bite, which was nice, but the sauce was a bit too generic tasting, reminding me of Sweet Baby Ray's or something similar. The rice and beans were standard. This was also OK. Next came some dessert. There was first the $12.95 Rosemary Churros served with dulce de leche & chocolate dips. While I'm not sure if it worked, the rosemary did add a unique smell and a bit of flavor, and at least it wasn't generic. The churros themselves were hot, and the sauces were standard, with my preference being the dulce de leche. I also ordered a Champurrado for $7.95, which was fine. It wasn't as thick as I expected, though perhaps the style is a bit different than the champurrados I rarely buy from Mexican street carts. The chocolate flavor was very nice, though, and I like that it wasn't too sweet. Another person got a $4 Alfajor, which I got a bite of, which was standard. This place is a bit hard to rate. The two soups were wonderful, I liked the appetizers, and I found a couple of the other dishes just OK. Overall, it was a good meal, but I'm not craving to go back. This would be the perfect 3.5, but I'll round up as that doesn't exist.
