As always, five whole stars well deserved. Cafe Luluc is one of my absolute favorite restaurants for a good, hearty breakfast. Especially in Brooklyn! Their fluffy, filling pancakes have had me in a chokehold for over a decade. And I'm not ashamed to admit it, lol. I'll be honest, I usually opt for the pancakes and not much else because they're so delicious, they do not need help on the plate. It comes with a small assortment of fruit on top (sliced strawberries, bananas, and blueberries). The service is always pleasant and punctual. Yes, punctual. If you've ever been here, you know how quickly the crowd grows. We arrived a little before opening and they cracked the doors right on time. They were ready to take our orders as soon as we were seated. I always appreciate places that don't make patrons feel like we're an inconvenient part of the morning/opening routine. Cafe Luluc is a neighborhood staple and has always been a go-to spot for brunch (though I have come for dinner in the past as well). Normally there is a lengthy wait to get in, but on this lucky Saturday morning we only had to wait about 5 minutes. I love the Parisian vibe here, which feels like you're transporting yourself to a classic French bistro. The service is attentive and friendly and there is an overall laissez faire joyous ambience here amongst all diners. Finally pancakes, where you can add some protein without it being a whole separate meal! I tried a few of the top pancakes in the city this weekend and Café Luluc was my favorite. Although it was not drenched in iconic sauce, like some of the others, that crispy outside and soft inside, let the pancake shine on its own. They also weren't overly dense like some of the other others. I ate the whole thing and did not feel like a whale afterwards lol Now I wouldn't be opposed to a caramel drizzle or something, but overall, it was a solid, regular pancake, and without all the frills. WOW, what a hidden CASH ONLY gem! Stumbled upon Cafe LuLuc while exploring the neighborhood, and I'm so glad I did. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate, with dim lighting and comfy seating. Service was also top-notch - friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable staff made great recommendations and ensured our drink and food orders were to our full-satisfaction during both visits! I tried my first Aperol Spritz at CAFÉ LULUc today during a solo lunch treat. It tasted like something that should be used to clean tiles and counter tops. This was no fault at all of CL. I just really didn't enjoy that Aperol taste. I ordered tortellini with mushrooms and chorizo, tossed in a cheese sauce and sprinkled with grated parm. The pasta and mushrooms were sooo good! I should've skipped the tired chorizo which AGAIN, was not a chef's error. I keep trying to force myself to like chorizo because it looks and smells great in food but I just don't! There were a few things that bugged me-starting with bugs! Tiny little knats flying around gave me and another customer a bit of a rough time. This place is also cash only-like real, folding paper, cash only, which seems pretty outdated. The music was good though. Disco for the most part which went with the vibe. I ordered an omelette which came with fries and a side salad. Buried within the salad was a massive chunk of rotting food. I think it was just congealed, rotten lettuce? Whatever it was, it was disgusting. The waiter said it was spinach? Spinach isn't congealed and ropey. They never asked me if I wanted anything else or apologized. There was no reaction at all. I dined at Café Luluc in Brooklyn last night with a group of four, and once again, it did not disappoint. We started with a variety of appetizers, including Escargot, French Onion Soup, and Guacamole--each one a delight. The escargot was tender and perfectly seasoned, while the French onion soup had a rich, deep flavor and a satisfying cheesy crust. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful, a nice touch for the table. For our main courses, we ordered the Pan-Seared Tilapia, Mussels, Fish Burger, and Pork Chop. The tilapia was cooked to perfection with a crispy exterior, and the mussels were served in a delicious broth that was perfect for dipping bread. The fish burger was hearty and satisfying, and the pork chop was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. To accompany the meal, I had a Dirty Martini--it was not as strong as I would have liked and that was my only disappointed. Another in our party had one of the $10 cocktail (only before 8:00). If you're coming here in the morning, come after 9:30am or 10am to be safe. When I arrived at 9am one morning, they said their cooks weren't here yet and didn't know when they will open. After I read some reviews, it turns out that this is normal that they do not open on time, so fair warning. I ended up coming back another day and finally got to try this spot out. It's been highly rated for their brunch, especially the pancakes so I had to try it. We started off with a Coffee ($3) and Grapefruit Juice ($3.50). For our meals, we shared the Pancakes with Mixed Fruit ($13.50) with 2 Sunnysideup Eggs and Sausage (+$5) and Pressed Pulled Pork Sandwich ($16.50). I'm not a big pancake person, but this was great to share. They are warm and fluffy with a crisp on top --nicely done. For the pulled pork, I surprisingly enjoyed this one with the tender pork yet crunchy panini crust. Also love when a restaurant offs both salad and fries as a side, so you get the best of both worlds. Plus, these fries are so damn crispy and delicious! When I visited Montreal, cafes like this were a dime a dozen, French style, small, intimate setting, and offerings for all palates. This restaurant does the same thing, with a slight American flair, and costing more. Like 1/3 the price more. The food is delicious, and the portions are generous if you are willing to pay for it. Skip the juice as it is tiny and quite expensive. However, the entrees are plentiful despite the high cost. The pancakes, though you only get two, are fresh and have a nice airiness to them. I think they use a sour starter for these, but they work well because the topped mixed fruit is very fresh along with the small dusting of powdered sugar. The sunny side up eggs and four little sausage links are the perfect accomplice to this criminal dish. Everything was perfectly cooked, lacking a lot of grease that eggs and sausage can notoriously leave behind. For the sake of science, I poured a little bit of the syrup onto the pancakes, something I never do. The syrup is great, whether or not they get it from Vermont, Canada, or elsewhere is irrelevant. It adds a sweet note to this already satisfying dish. A fair warning though, well, actually two. 1.) The restaurant gets busy early, you could wait a while for a table to open up or your food to arrive if you straggle in, and 2.) This is a cash only business. I did not see any ATM's on property, so plan ahead if you plan on coming with a large group or plan on going to town on the alcoholic beverages. The Carroll Gardens feel is apparent here, which is why it took me out of those Montreal vibes and into Carroll Gardens. I would like to return. read more

Food was good, larger portions, and most dishes came with a side of salad and fries.. we call that balance! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the ham benedict which I shared with a friend. Pulled pork was tasty but can get a bit dry, ham benedict was just okay in my opinion only because I have had better in other places. Came here for brunch after massages for a Zen Frenz Weekend with some friends. We're lovers of all things French and Café Luluc had great reviews on Yelp. They're walk in only, so no reservations. They're not huge so I can understand not wanting to deal with reservations. The turnaround time wasn't too bad. There were a few people waiting out front but they all put their names down already so by the time we walked up, it was only about a 15 minute wait and it didn't even feel like that much. Since it was chilly out we sat inside. They were packed everywhere. They have dining inside, out front and out back in their patio area. The place was bustling. We ordered a pitcher of sangria and enjoyed our dishes family style. Mushroom and Asiago Cheese Omelet - very tasty but I would have loved to have a bit more cheese in the omelet. I had double greens with this dish. Chickpea Salad w/Shrimp - OMG this salad is amazing! The dressing is so good and everything just worked well with each other. I'd probably order this on my next visit. Eggs Benedict - this was a solid dish, perfectly poached eggs and silky hollandaise atop English muffins with ham. Merguez Sausage - I'm happy I ordered two sides because every one loved them. They were served with mustard and another sauce, both great accompaniments.
