Steve was awesome! He walked through the project with me, gave me his suggestions, and worked up a very detailed and competitive quote. Once I gave him the go, he got me on the schedule and got the job done exactly as we went over. He was on time, on budget, and an absolute blast to be around. In fact, I mentioned adding a 30 AMP RV plug to the outside of my house AFTER he gave me the quote to which he replied "That's not a bad idea! I need to recommend that." I initially had a positive experience with Top Shelf when they installed my AC and furnace…read more However, I am updating my review because I hired Top Shelf to look at my furnace that was not working. When they came out they pretty much immediately discovered that someone had shut off my gas. They were at my house for a little under a half hour and charged me $250 to turn the gas lever on. When I asked for an explanation of cost they told me they actually lost money on the call because it took the technician 45 minutes to drive to my house due to snow. They also said they lost money on the call because it costs at least $300 to have someone drive to a house and walk in to provide a service regardless of how long they are there or what the issue is. Obviously I had no way of knowing that it was going to snow when I made the appointment/my furnace stopped working or that the technician didn't live near me. I'm still not sure why that would be factored in to the price. I would have preferred to move the appointment if I had known I'd be charged more due to snowy travel times. I would have also like to know that it was going to cost hundreds of dollars regardless of the problem. I was very surprised because I had such a great experience with them before as far as pricing and explanation and felt taken advantage of this time. I value the work of electricians and technicians but $250 to turn on a gas lever in under a half hour seems very steep to me.
