You really get value for your money here. I'm always suspicious of diner coffee not being very good but their coffee was actually pretty good. The kids got the waffles which everyone seemed to enjoy. Overall I enjoyed the meal and would recommend it.

However, there was still a significant communication issue regarding the complimentary meals. Our waitress told us that the manager would be comping three meals, which was completely fine since I had brought my daughter with me this time. She asked who the three meals were for and pointed to my fiancé, my mom, and me. I confirmed that was correct. However, when we received the receipt, my mom's meal had been charged. My fiancé ended up paying for it, which I appreciated, but the situation was frustrating and could have easily been avoided with better communication. Unfortunately, we also had the same waitress who had served us during our previous visit. I understood that she was having her first day during our earlier experience, so I tried to be patient and give her another opportunity. This time, though, her attitude felt noticeably different, and I couldn't help but feel that it may have been because I had previously complained about the service. There were several issues during our meal the first time we came (the time before this last visit) We waited approximately 5-10 minutes for water, and my fiancé's pancakes arrived extremely late--he had already finished his main course by the time they were brought to the table. Unfortunately, the pancakes were also not good by the time they arrived. And my smoothie didn't come til I had to ask multiple times. I genuinely wanted to give this restaurant another chance because I still love the food, and I appreciate that the manager previously tried to make things right. However, between the repeated service issues, the lack of communication regarding the complimentary meals, and the uncomfortable experience with the waitress, I don't feel comfortable returning to this location. I will continue enjoying the food, but from now on, I will be visiting the West Allis location instead. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously, because the restaurant has great food, but the service and communication need significant improvement.

Despite Jo's passing, the cafe lives on with the same name, but seems to have fallen off from its glory days. That being said, the gravy was actually pretty good if the biscuit wasn't really warm or particularly memorable. My eggs were not fully cooked and as such, I really just ate the cheese. Coffee was pretty meh and only the bare bones creamers were available, plus only plain table sugar as an option to sweeten the brew. Mom really enjoyed her meat lover's omelet and will definitely have some leftovers for the next day! Service was okay, didn't love the waitress taking a phone call while refilling my coffee, and the prices were a bit high for the value.
