Plenty of room and the kind of calm vibe that makes productivity easy. The owners were extremely attentive, welcoming, and happy to help, which always makes the experience feel more personal. My warm matcha was smooth and well-balanced, and the espresso shot was excellent--thanks again for the taste test! Overall, I'd give this spot a 4.5 stars. The only reason it's not a full 5 is that I wished the breakfast sandwich had a slightly better protein-to-bun ratio. Though I believe they could still put it over ice.... ' The coldbrew with their special cookies and crème cold foam really hit the spot. The cold foams are thick and creamy so make sure to get your cold brew black for a treat! Breakfast sandwich was good but the bacon was practically non-existent. My partner and I walked into Rise & Grind planning to get our usual coffee order, but before ordering, my partner politely asked to use the restroom for an urgent emergency (he has a medical condition that requires him to urgently use the restroom at times). The owners stated that the restroom was for customers only which we knew already and understood, but my partner explained to them that we are recurring customers and that it was an emergency. The owners continued to repeat that the restroom was for customers only and stated "you're not a customer TODAY" then proceeded to ignore us. Due to the nature of my partner's emergency, my partner then began asking other customers in the shop if they knew the bathroom code which caused the owners to become extremely hostile towards us. They started yelling at us and essentially kicked us out of the establishment right on the spot. It was incredibly embarrassing, jarring, and entirely disproportionate to the situation. You don't treat human beings who walk into your business with that level of aggression and disrespect, especially when they are just asking for a basic necessity. There are plenty of fantastic coffee shops in Oakland that actually treat their customers with decency. Skip this one. read more

How did I sleep on Rise and Grind Coffee for SO long? The breakfast sandwich is schmackin' -- this is my now-favorite place for this item! The bread is what stands out because it doesn't overpower the rest of the sandwich (some breads are too doughy or flavored) and lets the filling speak for itself while still being light and fluffy. This time I tried the Whopper Latte and Spicy Mocha Latte. Whoppers are pretty up there for me in terms of candy, but this would have been better as a hot drink because the whoppers weren't able to melt fully. I'm not a hot-drink person, but I'm willing to try it once (they also only offer iced drinks in once size). The SPICY MOCHA latte thoughhh!!! I LOVE spicy food, and usually when someone tells me they added spice to a drink, or a chocolate bar, it's not really there. But this drink has enough kick for me to notice it and that makes this place a 5 star coffee joint. Do NOT get me wrong, your mouth will definitely not burn and you won't be in pain, but it does have the flavor the name promises. Apparently it's also a bar at night? The staff was amazing. The chocolate croissant was super flaky and the chocolate was oozing out of every bite... note to self... these are messy don't eat a chocolate croissant wearing a white shirt. The seating was good and I was able to plug my lap top in and get into a few work meetings. What was a bit odd - which I did not investigate further - is that there is an open wall connection to the Wings place next door and half of the coffee shop was corded off for non-use and another section of what looked like a bar was also not being used. So when you walk in - you got wings on your right, coffee bar and pastries straight ahead and a bit to the upper right is unused space. Maybe this place transforms to something later in the day. They closed at 1pm which I had overlooked when I came in. The baristas were SUPER SWEET - they loved on every single person that came in. Multiple sets of firefighters, families with kids, even a disabled person with an electric wheel chair and a dog (who needed to be assisted after spilling their drink) - and me... all treated like royalty and family. This cafe was a little hard to find - the entrance with their banner on top of the store was closed and locked, but their ACTUAL entrance is at the Fire Wings entrance (just look for the sign on the door that advertises "Coffee from 8am-1pm"). They have a big cafe with a bunch of tables for the WFM folks with plenty of windows for natural sunlight. It felt roomy and breathable, perfect for anyone looking to get some work done. We were in Oak town visiting family and wanted to try this local shop. If you've experienced some of the best coffees, then this was not even close to hittin We ordered 4 different specialty coffees...caramel latte (watered down), crème brûlée (flavorless, not sweet), cookie butter (gritty) and their rendition of Vietnamese coffee (cold brew). All were severely lacking in flavor/taste (even after adding espresso to one) except for the cold brew which I expected to have more depth of flavor but was pretty good. We also ordered the breakfast sandwiches which were good, 4/5. Service was great, friendly. Wasted $55 when I could've made a cup of instant coffee and store bought creamer taste better. Woohoo! Oakland location! While Rise & Grind started in SF, i am glad it's made it's way across the bridge. I whole heartily enjoy their homemade fresh mint syrup. I enjoy it in a cup of cold brew. It's not too sweet. It's not overwhelming with a faux peppermint flavor and it's quite refreshing. They do a great job making regular coffee beverages too and the staff is always so fun. Service is quick. They're very accommodating to your needs and overall great quality. I enjoy coming here on the weekends as you don't need to wait long for your coffee. And if you get a food coma like me from eating at the pho places or fire wings next door, be sure to come here for a pick me up. read more

I first went to a Rise & Grand on 8th Avenue in San Francisco many years ago. I fell in love, but our love could not flourish due to the great distance between us. Well now she's back. There is a Rise & Grind in Oaktown! How did I not hear about this? They have a mint syrup that they make it house. It sounds crazy to add mint to coffee, but when the drink is cold, its delicious. So I recommend ordering a coffee over ice, then put a tablespoon of the mint syrup in there. So refreshing and sweet. PRO-TIP: This place is popular and the lines can get long, so the pros come in the off hours. Think midday on Tuesday. On Sunday mornings its a zoo. So it was a coffee with cousins Sunday and this was the spot. I had the Whopper coffee and loved it. It pops into my mind every now and then. My cousin had the Creme Brulee which was fun and yummy.
