LOVE the magic cookie bar!!! What a satisfying and filling treat that is well worth its cost. For what it's worth, I hate cake donuts and I love their peanut butter chocolate cake donut. My fiancé loves cake donuts and scarfed it along with the chai pumpkin donut with orange glaze. I asked if their chai was homemade (I hate how pretentious that sounds, but I want to choose a drink I can't buy in a container!), and although they said it was from a concentrate I gave it a try with oat milk. Side note: shoutout for having oat milk. The chai was overly spicy for me, but I managed to drink the whole thing. I was given the heads up from the barista about the heavy spice, so no issue there. Fiancé's latte was reported as 'good'. The space is super welcoming and the service was lovely. A bit pricey for drinks that weren't remarkable, but we will gladly go back. Oh good lord. What an amazing shop! Literally everything I've tried here has blown my mind. From savory to sweet, Rise provides the best gluten-free, vegan options in the city, hands down. The staff is incredibly helpful too. All of them are knowledgable and super friendly. While working on some business things in the shop, I got to see one of the bakers help a customer with severe food allergies find a pastry just for them. I've never seen that kind of service in a bakery before -- or such options before! I gotta say their apple fritters are my favorite. I was pleasantly surprised by a Rise Authentic Bakery pop-up stand outside selling Gluten Free Vegan Donuts! People need to be told when they're doing things right, and Rise Authentic Baking Co. is doing it right!!!! First time trying this place after weeks of drooling over their Insta content and it exceeded expectations. To quote my 4 year old "It was Epic". We tried the cinnamon roll which was dense and the right amount of gooey. The blueberry fritter was vibrant in color with too many blueberries inside to count. It tasted like a fritter should taste. We had two types of donut the peach and the chocolate cookies and Creme and they were both incredible. There's something extra delicious about no artificial junk. I indulged in a piece of avocado toast which was robust in flavor. I loved the richness the sesame seeds added, can't quite put my finger on all that was in there but it was awesome and different from other avo toast variations in a good way. My partner and I drove all the way from Ann Arbor to sample what we had heard were some tasty vegan treats. It was, a major waste of time and gas because the food was quite disappointing. We both had empanadas whose doughy crusts were hard enough to break your teeth on. The filling was bland and just really not worth tasting. She then had the jackfruit BLT and I had a tuna melt (which doesn't appear to be on their menu anymore). The "bread" was inedible as a sandwich since as soon as you even tried to pick it up it crumbled into tiny pieces leaving the sandwich insides either on your hand or on your plate. The "tuna" melt was boring and needed much more seasoning. It tasted like school paste. The BLT suffered from a similar fate. We hoped the smoothies, we got might save the day but they were watery and largely without flavor. It was a very disappointing meal from start to finish. read more

I had been really interested in this place, but my contact with them this morning fell flat on its face. I tried calling Rise Authentic Baking Co on the phone to ask a couple of menu questions before I walked over from my house, but I got a fast busy signal. This usually indicates that something is wrong with the phone line or phone service, but I cannot be sure. I walked over to Rise Authentic Baking Co (about ten minutes' walk from my house), and while I was looking through the store-front glass, an associate was nice enough to come out to see if I needed any assistance. I advised that I was waiting for my parents, but would be ordering once they arrived, momentarily. He told me I should just do it through the Web site, which was totally fine. I then went to the advertised Web site via my cellular phone, but it would not pull up. I tried again, but reached the same error / result. My folks arrived, and so I knocked on the window for some help, since I could not access the Web site. We had taken a couple of minutes to review the menu in the store-front window, which is always helpful if it's posted. The same gentleman came out, and asked me to call them on the phone instead. I told him I had done so earlier, but had been unable to get through, due to a "fast busy" signal. But, I tried again, and still I continued to receive the same "fast" busy signal. At this point, I had wasted twenty minutes of my time walking over and then being re-directed to first the Web site, and then re-directed to their phone number: neither of these were accessible to me, however, regrettably. I decided we needed to leave, right away, because I had obligations at noon to take care of, and just had run out of time. read more

Rise is a must in the GR area for desserts - even if you don't need an allergen friendly treat. Everything they make is delicious and you wouldn't know that it's gluten free or vegan. My wife is dairy free and we got our wedding cake from Rise. It looked great and tasted fantastic. So nice having this as an option! read more

I heard about Rise from a friend, and so on my day off went to check it out. I didn't make it there until about 5:20 (they close at 6:00) (sorry), and I was blown away. The selection was vast, they offer tarts and muffins and cheesecakes and cookies and cake and doughnuts. I ordered a variety of items, and I was so impressed with both the service, and of course, the food. The cashier was so friendly and she answered every question I had, but also gave me space to browse for a minute before I ordered. Like I said, I arrived 40 minutes before they closed. The doughnut I bought was so fresh and moist. The tart was firm but flaky on the inside. The cheesecake tart's crust was soft, and it was at a perfect coolness. I don't have a specialty diet, but my boyfriend has a number of food allergies, so finding a place where he can just go in and get anything from the menu is absolutely outstanding. The donut I bought for myself was the best donut I've every had. I have to be honest, I've eaten a lot of donuts in my time; this donut was moist, soft, and the flavor was superb. I was shocked. I had some high expectations, as this is a bakery that sells only vegan/dairy free/soy free items. Gluten free baked goods can be very dry and brittle. I was completely blown away. I didn't order any of the beverages they offered, but the list was extensive, from coffees, teas, smoothies, and specialty items like hot chocolates and blended coffee drinks. Now about the price: it's a specialty bakery. Of course things won't be $1.50 for a donut, come on. I bought a donut, yum tart (like a fancy pop tart), and a good sized cheesecake tart for just over $15. I think that's very reasonable, especially considering the price of gf goods literally anywhere. The donut was $3. The donut was absolutely worth that $3. I would absolutely recommend Rise Authentic Baking Co. to anyone I met. read more

We have loved Rise since they were a brand new vegan bakery upstart and I'm not GF or Vegan. They make THE BEST DOUGHNUTS I have ever eaten. GF or otherwise. Their cakes are filling and delicious and beautiful and the perfect birthday treat for someone special. Sure, they're a bit pricey but GF flour is, too. We live WAY on the other aide of town so don't get to their West side spot often but their goodies are all around town. read more

Overall, this is a great bakery! I do love many of their goodies, but some items can be hit or miss. I've gotten a few of their treats and sometimes they're great but other times they're something I'd rather throw in the trash. For example, I recently bought an apple cider donut and the pumpkin cinnamon roll. The donut.. to DIE for, but the pumpkin cinnamon roll, not so much. Sometimes their flour blend can taste a bit off - I can pick out the chickpea flour taste, so I didn't have high hopes upon first trying the donut but it truly did not disappoint. It was very similar to your typical cider mill donut but a bit thicker and less fluffy. Still overall a really great flavor. Same for the death by chocolate donut - it was also sweet, chocolately and delicious. I couldn't even tell it was GF. So maybe the donuts are a winner. BUT the yum tart and the pumpkin cinnamon roll were NOT sweet enough at all. They both tasted stale, and as though an ingredient was not fresh and absorbed the flavors of the fridge or something like that. I couldn't even finish the pumpkin cinnamon roll, it really was NOT good. I realize the dough of a cinnamon roll and a tart isn't the sweet part and I think that's what the issue is. If your treat isn't a highly sweet/sugary treat, the dough part will have an off flavor due to the types of flour they use. The sugar is most likely what masks the unique and sometimes funky flavors of their GF flour blend. read more

My first visit to Rise Authentic Baking Co today, Saturday May 18. I guess me giving it 2 stars "meh, I've experienced better" about sums up my feelings, at least today. Nice space, many think it is too small, it is special, busy = you may have to wait a little or forego a seat. Think bigger city atmosphere. Wasn't a fan of the girl with her laptop settling in at a table that could seat four. With warmer temps here, the back patio area is nice, and the couple street side tables will help. Customer service, or more so, lack of true customer service was evident. No excuse for hiring front of the house team members who looked and acted so very disinterested in customers or giving some kind of welcome. Behind the counter, the welcome wagon was blah girl and sluggish dude. Try this..... "Hi, how are you today?" "What can I get for you?" "Have a good day" "Thanks for coming in". Really good coffee. Scone, OK. Donut, no big deal. Prices fair. read more

I was really excited to visit Rise for the first time. However, I was incredibly disappointed. The food/drinks are way overpriced. I order avocado toast...after about 15 minutes with no sign of my food, I asked the cashier if it would be ready soon. She was very rude and said she doesn't make the food, the kitchen does. Several minutes later my food came out. It was underwhelming to say the least. And for ~$7 I wasn't too happy. The chai latte was lackluster as well. Moral of the story, visit one of the many other cafes in Grand Rapids. This one was a bust for me. read more

$3/donut. That's $36/dozen donuts plus tax! I had the chocolate peanut butter donut and it was neither very chocolate tasting nor peanut butter tasting. My bf had the vanilla sprinkles donut and he said it was WAY too sweet for a donut. Like pouring straight confectioners sugar down. It was opening weekend and had to wait in line to order, then leave your name and wait in line- for two donuts already sitting on a shelf 6" from the register. The taste and texture were fair but not as mind blowing as the photos made them look, and definitely not worth the price. Also there's a window you can see right into the kitchen- Not everyone was wearing a hat or hair covering in the kitchen, and if they were I don't know what the point of wearing a knit beanie is if your long blond hair is hanging out of it.
