Atmosphere- think low budget Cracker Barrel. Sante Fe rolls for an appetizer tasted exactly like you get anywhere else and should be served without the "peach" chutney. BBQ was meh. Pulled pork plate was served with no presentation on a plastic plate. It was edible but dry and basic flavor. The sauce was served in a tiny plastic cup and was cool. Good if you like super sweet, thick bbq sauce (compared to vinegar based and spicy). Ribs were overcooked, but again edible but meh. Servers were young gals that were very nice but never cleared our table. We sat with no check for a good 10 mins before we asked and then she said to go to counter to get check and pay. Everything went well. After visiting Natural Bridge, my wife and I stopped here for lunch. Large menu available, along with a small hot food steam bar with lunch specials. There is also a lunch special menu in addition to their regular menu. Steaks, chops, pulled pork, smoked sausage, ribs, pulled chicken, and so much more. We ordered smoke wings and they were absolutely delicious. My wife's ribeye sandwich with loaded potato salad and my beef tips and rice were also very good. Our server was very sweet and service was quick. The decor reminded me a little of Cracker Barrel, rustic. Bathroom was clean. I'm sure most people who eat here are locals. We really enjoyed lunch. Here for a high school football game, and stopped in for a pregame meal. Service was outstanding not just in efficiency and speed, but very friendly and helpful. Food was awesome. The ribeye steak was cooked perfectly, and was very juicy with great flavor. The onion rings are huge and very good obviously freshly prepared And the baked potato was cooked all the way through which is a problem in some other places but not here. If you are in the Haleyville area, I highly suggest a stop at Russell's. read more

I've eaten at this location many times and the food has been good. I'm not sure if they have had a lot of staff turnover but today was extremely disappointing. We ordered BBQ ribs, pork and fries. The ribs and fries were cold. The pork was very dry and lukewarm. We asked for fresh fries and received them. I ordered the homemade banana pudding and it was the worst i have ever seen. It was very runny like soup. No one ever came back to ask how the food was and when we got up to pay, the girl at the register was very nasty. We told her that the food was not good today that it was cold. She said that it was warm when the waitress brought it out. My friend asked her if she was the cook and did she touch it? Her facial expressions said it all. She got loud and said that she would take the fries off and I told her no! They brought hot fries and I didn't understand what she was being so nasty when we were just letting her know that the food wasn't very good and we eat there often. She then snapped and said well you're taking the food to go and She just walked off and left us standing there. I asked the girl behind the Buffet counter who the manager was and she said "well, she is". I said a few choice words and that this was not her forte!!! She needs to find another job. I have never been so angry at a restaurant. All because we wanted them to know that the food wasn't great....and yes we got Togo boxes for the dog. The staff is very friendly, courteous, and very helpful. Everything I have gotten from there has been wonderful and portion size is good. Also, it is very clean in there. If you haven't had the fish filets you are missing out. Some of the best fish I've ever had. read more

The restaurant is a bit oddly placed being on the inside of a Y between two roads but is definitely easy to see. The waitresses are clean and friendly country charm. The menu though small has all many would want and food was pretty good. The steaks we ordered where cooked medium rare to order and tasted great. The sirloin and ribeye suited their respective cut they came from well. The sides are hit and miss with the sweet potato being cooked to perfection and the green beans tasting worse than watered down dentcan store special. Your mileage may very here. Overall though I would come again if I was in the area and given a time in the near future I might just be back soon. read more

I've lived in Haleyville all of my life and surprisingly I had never tried Russell's Rising Smoke. I decided to give it a try and was not disappointed. The waitresses are kind and the place definitely has the southern charm one could imagine. I had the Russell's Southern Fried Catfish Filet. It was inexpensive and very delicious. I had a loaded potato salad with fried okra as the sides and they were delicious as well! I didn't notice any covid-19 precautions but they also do drive pickup if one would prefer. Restaurant specializes is Bar B Q but also many other American traditional dishes such as steak, catfish, salad bar etc. The food at this place is outstanding. Best Bar B Q even when compared to larger Southern cities. I highly recommend this one ! Service and hospitality is great also. read more

Food and service usually was great till the last time we came in. Apparently they ran out of ribs, no biggie it happens, but the young girl went table to table telling people, then issuing them a refund and giving them a free choice. Nice right? Well we had three orders of ribs ordered, before two of the other tables even arrived. So everyone is served their food, but us. I finally walk up there and asked about our order. Which they served to the last family in, three past our order. She says well we just have one Ord e r of ribs what other order do you want for the other two? I told her and she CHARGED US EXTRA FOR IT. NOW REMEMBER SHE GAVE ALL THE OTHER TABLES THE MONEY BACK FOR THEIR RIBS AND GAVE THEM A FREE SUBSTITUTE. BUT CHARGED US FOR THE DIFFERENCE ABSOLUTELY NO REFUND ON THE RIBS AT ALL. I said something to her and she wouldn't respond, so about twenty min. Later we finally are served the order, and the fries were stone cold, waiting on the half cooked one order of bloody ribs they served my son!! My son with an auto immune disease which they could have killed him from under cooked meat. We left it sitting on the table so they could see how bloody they were. Not sure why this little girl rescinded to treat us like dirt and try to give us food poisoning. We never went back, never will. If they blatantly treated us like that in front of those other families, what would they do behind our backs? read more
