This is Lake Forest, pickins be slim. Location: Strip mall in a nice quiet location. 4/5 Decor: Umm...well there really isn't any. A counter and some tables, that's it. It seems clean (kinda) that's about all I can say. 2/5 Food: Most people that come in get the to go buffet. They give you a mountain of food. And for the most part the food has a good flavor. The main issue is that much of it is a bit soggy. A little crunchiness wouldn't hurt. Also, they seem to use cheaper cuts of chicken. There is nothing particularly special about the food but it is not bad either. 3/5 Acceptable in a pinch if you want a lot of food. My husband and I love ordering delivery from here!! It honestly feels like healthier Chinese take out, super fresh and clean tasting; not loaded up with oil and MSG. We frequently order steamed or pan fried dumplings (great sized portion and totally worth it IMO), vegetable chow mein, fried rice, and the kale, broccoli, chicken stir fry. Good Chinese restaurant near by lake forest office my colleagues usually go there. Although it is not big but cozy, mostly traditional Chinese food even delicious beef steak that I had today. you can order two or three items. However nice chef as well as boss can cook dishes for you based on your preference. We know different cities and regions in China has different cooking style and food taste. Let this be a warning. Went in at 1:45 and they were out of both chow mein, and they weren't making more (oh well). The teriyaki chicken's sauce was at least 20% oil. Too much to really even taste the sauce or chicken. Plus they were out of 4 different dishes. read more

This will be a short review. Rising Sun Chinese is a decent enough food place. It appears to be run by a hard-working family. They're assortment of Chinese food on a steam table it's nothing out of the ordinary. The selections in my opinion are modest. I've driven by this place I don't know how many times on the way to my "usual" Japanese joint and never really saw it until today. I know you can't expect too much from a take-out Chinese restaurant with a steam table, but I figured I'd give it a go. From the initial visual inspection, everything behind the sneeze guard looked fairly fresh. I opted for the chow mein with steamed rice, spicy chicken (I usually order kung pao, but the sign said this was spicier) and pepper steak. It came with an eggroll and I was about 6 bucks lighter in the money clip. Unfortunately, the noodles were bland and chewy. There was a small piece of onion in there. The rice was fine. The pepper steak was a little cooler than room temp and the meat was mushy. It was prepared with sliced onion and celery. The sauce was actually good. At the proper temp and with fresher meat, it could have been a decent dish. The spicy chicken was just ok. Again, the sauce was good, it was hotter (temp) than the steak, but the spice wasn't there. I don't know if they've toned it down over the years for the mainly white neighborhood, but I was expecting at least a hint of sweat on the brow. Needless to say, I have had much better Chinese take-out, but not much worse. If you're looking for a quick fix, try the Japanese joint a few stores down or go to Pick Up Stix. read more

New Owners! Driving by yesterday I noticed a small "New Owner" sign. I walked in and took a look. The couple running the place greeted me with a smile and said they were the new owners. I took a takeout menu and returned later to give it a shot. The Lemon Pepper fish was delicious! The cashew chicken was as is should be as well as the rest of the ala carte items I ordered. They have some items on steam tables but most of what I ordered was prepared fresh for me promptly and in generous portions. I am glad that we finally have decent Chinese food in Foothill Ranch again! My family will definitely order out from here again. read more

Ordered here a few weeks ago. The food wasn't bad, it was okay. Got some sweet and sour chicken with house fried rice and a side of pork/ribs. The chicken was good and flavorful but there was too much raw veggies. This rice was good but a little greasy and the meat inside it was kind of bland. The ribs would have been better if they had some kind of bbq sauce on them (we're a bit dry). Average California (not NY lol) Chinese take-out if you ask me. read more

Okay I'm going to try to build a compliment sandwich here but let me tell you the meat or "positive" part of my review is thin sliced at best. I walked in at about 530 pm and there was little to no food out and ready. I was greeted by the staff when I entered and they were very nice they even threw in some free cream cheese dodads seeing that I spent 30 bucks on Salt and pepper shrimp, teriyaki chicken and orange chicken . When I got home (3 minutes) I opened up the shrimp and noticed they were breaded nice but they were still in the shell and had there legs head and entrails still in. Not an issue but if there "breaded" then it was pointless as you would have to peel off all of it to even get the shell and other parts off. I closed the container and tossed it to the side. Next was the orange chicken which had no flavor what so ever and was chicken like in texture at best next up was the teriyaki chicken and again... No flavor at all. By far probably the worst tasting food I've had in a long time. read more
