Great food and friendly staff. This is my go to spot for Chinese food, they always provide good portions and the food is always very fresh.

Been coming here for years and the food is always the best in the area. Lunch is always hot and ready.

Rising Sun is a hidden gem in the Foothill Ranch Marketplace, next to the KD's donuts. Many have driven passed it on the way to/from Ralph's supermarket without paying any attention. It is where I go for decent Chinese food in this area. Usually we would order the house special fried rice, garlic eggplant with tofu, a meat dish, and a soup. We are usually satisfied when we put chopsticks down. They have a few lunch special items available between 11am and 3pm. After being closed on Sundays for some time, Rising Sun is now open for dinner on Sundays, 3:45-8pm. It's a move I like very much. It now also has tables for dine-in customers but we usually order our food to go, a leftover habit from the pandemic days. For anyone new to the Rising Sun, they identified your to-go order not by name but your phone number. One last thing for the local folks, Rising Sun accepts Shop & Dine Lake Forest gift cards, so support our local business when you are in the mood for Chinese food.

I have the gift vouchers that can be used in 99 locations in Lake Forest, CA. I noticed that Rising Sun Chinese food restaurant is one of them. After visiting the OC library at Foothill Ranch, I took my family to dine in on Saturday. It is the small business and I like to support because the front desk staff is very friendly. We ordered the following items for 5 people (3 adults and 2 kids). Thai Curry Chicken ($13.65) with rice Happy Family ($14.95) with rice Salty & Pepper Pork Chop($14.95) with rice We waited 20 minutes and were surprised to see the big portion size of Salty & Pepper Pork Chop. My kids liked Thai Curry chicken a lot. We were satisfied with the entrees we ordered. The only thing I don't like is that the restroom is not open for the customers. If you would like to buy lunch or dinner to go , Rising Sun is a good one to begin with. Just give it a try with 3 entrees I mentioned above. You won't feel disappointed. Will go back definitely.

We've tried hole in the wall restaurants and fancy restaurants. This is what we were looking for and our search is over. This place is amazing. I placed an online order and picked it up 30 minutes later. The order: orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, garlic shrimp, chow mein, fried rice, and egg rolls. And everything was fantastic. Very kind staff and reasonably priced. The inside is cool and clean. I'm so thankful that my dad got what he wanted for his birthday and we'll definitely be back. Thank so much!

Mongolian Beef & House Chicken Special were both extremely salty. I'm not convince it was an Asian person that cooked these up. Asian food is usually subtle with salt. This was so terribly salty that I feel so guilty to feed my children this for dinner but it's too late to get something else. The beef was also overcooked and tough. The crispy rice soup was a fail. It's just soup with rice - nothing crispy about it. In short, it's soggy rice reminiscent of porridge. Fast food Panda Express would have been better quality. I hate to leave such a sad review for a local business but there's clearly a lot of improvement needed. This was disappointing enough to be a one and done experience - I wouldn't try this establishment again.

We visited the simpler Shang Shui Noodle House(Frank's dumplings and noodles) while the restaurant next door, Shang Shui Bistro(Frank's bistro Chinese cuisine) , focuses more on elevated Hunan and Cantonese dishes. Once we walked in, we could just find a seat and order through the QR code menu. It was convenient since we could take our time looking through the options. We ordered: 1. Roasted Duck Noodle Soup $19.99 2. House Special Fish Fillet Noodle Soup $15.99 3. Pork Knuckle Noodle Soup $16.99 Everything tasted pretty good! I ordered the signature fish fillet noodle soup, which was one of their recommended dishes. My husband thought the fish soup had the best flavor among the three dishes we tried. The portions were just right, and the prices were very reasonable. For the noodles, I would recommend choosing udon or ramen. My husband and our friend chose rice noodles, but they became too soft and broke apart easily when picking them up with chopsticks. After dinner, we stopped by Frank's bistro Chinese cuisine next door to take a look. The interior is much more upscale, and they also use a QR code menu. Most dishes are around $20 and up. We chatted with one of the staff members, who mentioned that they opened in August last year and focus on authentic Cantonese and Hunan cuisine. He was also proud to share that their dishes are freshly prepared, not the typical pre-made food you might find elsewhere. Will definitely come back to try the dishes at Shang Shui Bistro next time. It's been awhile so I'm willing to give it another shot. Plenty of parking outside, the restaurant itself is really cute with tasteful decor. You order with a QR menu from the table. We ordered fish noodle soup, the 3 dumplings and soy sauce chicken with rice. Everything was pretty good! The fish noodle soup had a good fish profile in the soup, with a kick of white pepper which I liked. It tasted clean and healthy. The dumplings were really good. It definitely tasted like in house made dumplings. Much better quality than other restaurants in the area. The soy sauce chicken rice wasn't bad. But I thought the price was a little egregious. It should be max $15. All in all I'm glad we gave this "chain" another chance.

Yet when we FINALLY received our food at 6:48pm, the food was hot. So all in all, we waited a ridiculously long time (almost an hour more than estimated) + had staff lying to our faces about progress and how much longer to wait... Asian burritos are a trendy dish that honestly not enough places do, where you basically have to go all the way to Pasadena for the Panda Innovation Kitchen or Disney California Adventures offers one variety that rotates seasonally. What you get here is the classic Chinese lunch options like pepper beef or chicken and fried rice, wrapped in the convenient form of a burrito to make a very filling meal. Their sauces are also delicious, one that's a green sauce and one that's like a sweet and sour for a delicious flavor combination. Online order makes it convenient, but I will say I wish I could customize ingredients. They didn't list that there's avocado in it, which I'm not a fan of in general but also don't find it fits the flavor profile though I'm sure most people like it. It's only a few pieces and easy to navigate around. If you're looking for a new spin on the Chinese lunch special, head into New Shanghai to try their new menu with Anna's Kitchen! TIP: You can online order and they make it pretty fast.
