Bar service was better than in the restaurant area service. The first time we were there, we sat at the bar had an appetizer and a few drinks. Service was good. Food was good. The next time we revisited for supper, one month ago. We were seated in the restaurant area. However, our service was slow, and also the order was incorrect. Also, The meatloaf was less than desirable. It was a tad overcooked. We will give it one more try, however. read more

If you'd have had better Managers and kept and hired on new excellent chefs that I know worked there you'd still be operating. It's your own fault that you're closing. It's sad because you had the skill and desire in the kitchen and you wasted it because the FOH manger sucked. I'm sad. Best pork schnitzel around. Atmosphere is excellent ...until they turn the air conditioner on to drive the temperature down into the mid-60's, which is a favorite trick of lower-class restaurants to get customers to eat more and leave faster. However, this was not the worst part of it. This restaurant used to be a fine-dining experience. In the last five years, they appear to have deteriorated markedly, other than their prices. My experience was shared by others at our table and others that had warned us not to go there. It was obvious that other diners have abandoned this restaurant, as it was not at all crowded. The menu looks good, but is not matched by the quality received. The food was over-cooked, very dry and - worse - flavorless. We easily get better food from the grocery store. For my wife and I, we spent over $100 and received a $35 meal that was not as good as any diner. Essentially, they are in desperate need of a chef. I will say that the server was excellent and very attentive. Such a shame to see what once was good turn to bad. Clearly, new owners have replaced knowledgeable previous owners. read more

Great menu, unique game meat options like elk and bison. I enjoyed the bison dip sandwich. The hostess was indifferent, not welcoming, while our server was friendly and attentive. Soup lobster bisque came out too salty and barely warm, sent it back to be heated, came out again barely warm, our server did the right thing and immediately offered to take it off our bill. Atmosphere is early American, comfortable. I'd go back to try more game meat items. read more

I hosted a bridal shower on June 22nd. Rising Sun Inn was the perfect location & atmosphere. It was the staff that really made this event one of the best! A BIG THANK YOU to Adriana & Dakota who assisted us the entire day in the most professional & accommodating manner. They jumped in & helped with all the little details and made this a perfect day for all who attended! They are truly assets to Rising Sun Inn!! Very disappointed. We had a reservation for 10 at 5:30 on a Wednesday. It was my dads 60th birthday and likely my moms last birthday as she battles cancer - was hoping for a positive memorable evening. Instead, it took 30 minutes to take our order. Appetizers didn't come out until around the hour mark, and salads and soups after. Bread was never brought until we asked for it after our meal was eventually brought. We spent more time without water in our cups than water in our cups and dishes cluttered our table. Ended up spending over 2.5 hours in a nearly empty dining hall, we were not a priority at all. I had to go up to the front desk to ask for dessert menus. Bonus - I still had to tip 20% because of built in gratuity, so no wonder they treated us like an afterthought they already knew they'd make a great tip and didn't have to do anything for it. Very sad this is the memory we are left with for such a special and heavy day. I will never spend money here again. read more

First time going here. Had 6pm reservation and seated right away. Waited 20 minutes for a server to acknowledge us and take our drink order. Didn't get a drink until we were there 30 minutes. Caesar salad was pitiful and the filet of beef tenderloin was cold. Will definitely not return. read more

This is a beautiful location to have your wedding. There is a space to get ready, have your first look, ceremony, portraits and reception all in one location. Plenty of lovely spots to take pictures, we were so grateful to the friendly staff for setting up a chaise for our portrait area so we could take some classic photos with the autumn backdrop. It's a lovely place for an autumn wedding. I loved all the decorations and little touches they added. Hope to return again soon! read more

First and last time eating here. I cannot believe all the positive reviews. First off, average age of patrons in the loud, very boring dining room? At least 75. Secondly, the food is really quite bad. The salmon appetizer was so-so at best but the entree? $38 for a filet mignon that's advertised as 8oz but is lucky if it's 4oz and was dried out and flavorless. My girlfriend's filet was 4 inches long and half an inch high (and definitely NOT filet). This was matched with disgusting "Bernaise" sauce, 3 spears of asparagus, a few scalloped potatoes, and disgustingly sweet creamed corn. Most definitely a dish for the blue-haired crowd! And our server? She was nice but literally wouldn't leave us alone! Kept coming over (while our menus were most obviously still open) asking if we were ready to order. She became a pest. We spent $168 (not including to) on a below average meal (the wine prices were good as were the cocktails). What's the fuss about this place? Avoid and get a much better meal someplace else. read more

The food was extremely disappointing. The plates were unappealing to look at, the portions were very small, and the quality of items was not very good. Dressing looked and tasted like no more than stale bread, ham was sliced razor thin, there was a thick unappealing brown gravy covering the meat on the plate. One family member ordered turkey and the dark meat portion looked and tasted like Bison meat. Cranberry sauce was so sour it was not edible. We overheard tables around us also complaining about the quality of food. Frankly, I have been served diner food that was higher quality than our meals. At $45.00 per plate we expected much better. Rustic colonial style dining room, excellent food and acceptable (but not overly attentive) service mark this establishment. The pricing suggests fine dining but the extreme casual attire (shorts and baseball caps!) of many of the patrons suggests otherwise and the lack of service attention to small things, like keeping our wine glasses full, implies I over expected what to expect for these prices. They specialize in Bison and the tenderloin we had did not disappoint. But, there was no choice on sides which could best be described as minimal. Go for the unique menu choices and ignore the fact that the wait staff are teenagers just learning how to serve well prepared, well presented meals. read more

Expensive. And, we left feeling offended, offended by how much we spent and the fact that our waiter rushed us through our meal. We used to go here all the time and have always loved it. Recent years they have raised their prices just way too much, and give you less on your plate. The scallop wrapped in bacon appetizer is good as always, but they literally gave me about a tablespoon of lettuce and hardly any honey mustard dressing to dip. It used to come with a small but nicely sized pile of greens and ample honey mustard dressing. Everything put together just made for a nice small plate/appetizer. Why skimp on lettuce and dressing? Our waiter was efficient but too efficient. Three times I had to ask him not to take my plate away. He almost took away the last sip of my $14 cocktail. For 14 bucks I want the whole thing! It's sad that we feel this way about this place now. We've always loved going there, and enjoy the casual rustic environment. They got rid of their bar menu. If you sit at the bar it's nice to have options other than in the formal dining room. I hate when restaurants reduce what they have given you for years. It is always difficult for me to leave life in Vienna - especially after the fun Christmas holidays ... and friends in Philadelphia know that a good meal is the perfect way to try to cheer me up. Indeed my first dinner out after journeying to North America at the start of this new year was in a wonderful inn north of Philadelphia called The Rising Sun. Here we had a very delicious dinner and it has helped me adjust to being back in the United States. I liked everything about The Rising Sun. It is located in the pretty countryside north of the Quaker City but still an easy commute into Phillytown. The dining room is very pretty and the tavern very warm. Service could not be friendlier from the moment you are greeted. Our waitress was always smiling and totally on top of things to insure a nice flow to the meal. And what a meal! I began with a tasty appetizer of scallops wrapped in a maple bacon. Awesome. The next course was a wedge salad with house-made bleu cheese. Again thumbs up as was also due the bread course. For my entrée I ordered the house specialty of bison filet mignon. Yes this restaurant specializes in American bison dishes and indeed they own a bison farm not far from the inn. The filet mignon of bison was served with a Béarnaise sauce and green beans, potatoes, and corn. This meat offering was tender and juicy and I can highly recommend ordering it unless you are a vegetarian. Dessert capped the feast with a flavorful white chocolate & Chambord cheese cake. A glass of French merlot from the Auvergne was my drink choice (alas they didn't have any Austrian wine for me.) Anyway it was a most welcoming meal for me on this side of the Atlantic and everyone totally agreed - The Rising Sun Inn is a restaurant to return to for another special occasion. read more

I don't normally write reviews, but I think in light of the "pandemic," places like this deserve and need to be recognized. Overall, it was a great experience. They have social distance options for people who want to social distance, and bar seating for the normal people who want to chill at the bar. The bar tender and manager were very cool and friendly. The bar tender also kept my beer glass full without even asking... great intuition! She also made a good Moscow mule! The bar is a very relaxed atmosphere. The lighting is warm and calm. The music wasn't too loud or difficult to talk over. There wasn't a million TV's ruining the vibes. The size of the bar is not too big or to small... perfect if you want to be a loner or if you want to join in on the bar talk. Also, food came out quickly, and tasted delicious. This was my first time having bison. It tasted good, meat wasn't dry at all. The customers next to us were raving about the bison soup. I think I'll try that next time.. read more

Overall the food was very good to excellent. My wife and I both had the onion soup and were disappointed by the only warm temperature. The salad options with an entrée were, tossed salad, Caesar salad or wedge salad. I had the wedge salad which was simple but loaded with bacon and blue cheese dressing. Our entrees were both excellent. I had the schnitzel and my wife had a crab salad. The portions were very generous. I was happy with my plate when it was put in front of me. Went there for brunch to celebrate my dad and sister in law's birthdays. Service was ok in the beginning, but they brought out everyone's food except my stepdaughters (there were 10 of us there) which made everyone feel odd not sure if they should start eating or not. Hers finally came out along with two sides of bacon we were missing. My husbands omelette was missing the swiss cheese, my brothers bacon was half not cooked and half well done. My sister in laws fruit cup that she ordered never showed. My nephew who ordered Bison ended up getting sick that night (can't say it was related or not but questionable) Just expected more from a restaurant that has been around for a long time. When our bill came they did say there weren't going to charge us for drinks since our food was slow to come up, which was nice even though most of us had water. I would have appreciated better food and service instead. read more

Shame on the earlier review regarding covid policies because we were here sitting right in front of you on Black Friday and for being so appalled you sure were here for hours drinking and dining. We had our wedding at the Rising Sun Inn. Everyone was very helpful and responsive thru the whole process. In the end, we had a wonderful wedding!! There was not one thing I would have changed about the day. The whole staff on the day of hustled and made sure we had a great day. We went with the served dinner and the food was fantastic. We also held our ceremony at the Rising Sun Inn. We were lucky enough to have a beautiful day and the surrounding area provided a great back drop to our ceremony. I've been here and had terrific food before, and this time my Wife's bison and crap for $40 dollars was so small and wasn't very good for the price the asparagus was tough. My chicken parm had no flavor what so ever and they put no sauce on my pasta and very little on my chicken for $26 won't be back possibly ever. read more

I ate here last week as a celebratory meal for a major promotion and it was exactly as I remembered it. The staff could be a bit warmer, but the food is excellent! This place is almost always spotless and they draw a great crowd (mostly locals and all friendly). The only reason this isn't 5 stars is because our waitress brought us our food and my steak was way over cooked (the plate was boiling hot which tells me it was under the heat lamp for far too long). It's like covid never happened here. I went last week with my mom for a celebratory lunch, and we didn't stay long. Zero social distancing, very little cleaning done by the waitstaff, and peeking into the back I saw a disturbing lack of masks on the kitchen staff. Upon speaking to a manager, we were encouraged to take our business elsewhere if we "didn't like the way they do things". We happily left. Looking at the hidden reviews, you'll see other people with the same issues as we had. My advice is to save yourself the gas and just cook at home (where you know things are clean). read more
