Cunning, deceptive, dishonest, predatory and unscrupulous is how I would describe the owner. My recent experience (in addition to hearing others' firsthand experiences of being swindled), clearly demonstrates this was not a one-off. The jig is up!      Here is how it unfolds: you bring the bike in, he overcharges for parts, he does work that was not requested as a "favor", he does a shoddy job, he gaslights you by making you feel as if you don't know your own bike and what he is saying is plausible - that is until the rip off is so blatant that you come to your senses realizing just how much of a scam artist he is.       Motorcyclists are a tight community. We respect each other. This mutual respect is paramount between a customer and a mechanic whose hands we put our lives in. To do shoddy work, defend it, attempt another cash grab to add insult to injury when you query it, all the while gaslighting, is beyond depraved. If the owner of this shop has one moral fiber in his body, I encourage him to dig deep and recognize that his scams aren't only lining his pockets, they are dangerous. Shoddy work can lead to injuries, if not worse.      Here is the gist of my experience (the character limit does not allow meticulous detail but is available upon request):  Lengthy return times of completion    Possibly the wrong parts   Not listing parts that are required   Charging for parts/items the bike doesn't require    Charging over 8 times a reasonable cost for some parts   Charging for parts that should've been included in "honoring"   Inconsistent billing prices   Didn't provide all the OEM part numbers    Taxed twice and/or billed twice for shop supplies    He intentionally makes the bill unclear, convoluted, and confusing (his M.O.). I believe he does this should you ever try to contest his word, price, billing, or workmanship. Then he'll discredit you as a "fake review", "having no records of your bike ever being at his shop," or pull that classic gaslighting move that it's the customer not understanding the bill as opposed to him pulling a fast one.            To the shop owner: Don't bother responding to this review as your gaslighting retort, which will undoubtedly include a personal attack, will only serve to prove my point.  But if you'd like to shoot yourself in the foot, go ahead and be my guest. read more

Prior to going online a week ago, I had never even heard of Rising Sun Motorcycles. So glad I went online and checked! As far as my experience went, all the GOOD reviews of Rising Sun are spot on! I've taken my bike to a number of shops over the years and haven't been impressed by any of them - most charge huge dime for mediocre to standard service. And I don't have an overly complicated bike - a 2001 Honda Nighthawk imported from the USA. Bringing it out of winter storage, I usually do an oil change myself but it's been a while since it had a tune-up so went searching online. There was a Yelp coupon for $105 worth of work for $75 for Rising Sun, plus a number of good reviews, so thought I'd call first to find out if the coupon could be applied to a tune-up. There was a bit of a disconnect in that the guy I spoke to wasn't familiar with the coupon so suggested I email the owner (Samson). I got an immediate reply from Samson saying it was legit and could be applied. So I bought it and called to book an appointment and was told they weren't accepting bookings until July but I could try booking online. I did so and again, Samson replied promptly telling me to bring the bike in any day at 9 am. During my last call, the person who answered told me a spring tune-up was $175 and $75 for a detail job (which I actually thought was kinda low). When I met Samson he told me I was misquoted as the rates were higher. He still gave me a good rate for the tune-up at $179.99 and while the detail rate was $115 (more aligned with what I'd expect), he assured me that Tori would do a great job. And that she did. In fact, I don't think the bike has looked that great since it was new! I felt bad in that I had no cash to leave her a good tip, but Samson told me to sing her praises in a review, so here I am! Overall, service for everything was top notch and prompt. All the staff were friendly and professional and even suggested ways in how I could save some $$ on parts for future work by ordering myself and having them delivered to the shop. I would definitely recommend Rising Sun for anything motorcycle related and will be coming back again! read more

I brought in a part for him to test, but he didn't bother, and gave me a quote for more than a third of the value of the bike!! I had to have it hauled over to friends' for simple fix. I have been riding year-round for over 30 years, and had a good relationship with my last shop for over 20 years! But I would never recommend this guy! I even approached him with another simple job, hoping we could work it out. Too bad. Who is Edward? Samson is dishonest, and his response to my complaint is full of holes....First, he has never met me! The guys at rising sun were amazingly helpful and thorough. This was my very first email to them... Hi, I just bought my first scooter from craigs list...and surprise...there is an issue with the lights. it is a 2013 SAGA deluxe. hazard and brake lights work, but headlights and turn signals don't. It is a bit of a bigger bike than I expected so an not comfortable to drive it with out the turn signals at least. I live in the west end at . my scooter is parked in front of my building Wondering what a possible cost may be to fix the lights? maybe getting a whole tune up also? maybe needs a new battery? I don't know. if you come to me would be great as like I said I'm not comfortable driving it until its fixed. I may be able to get a friend to drive to you tho. Thanks for your time and REALLY looking forward to hearing back as Ive had it for 4 weeks now and kinda want to start riding it...lol I got a response right away and they picked it up and did an hour long diagnosis where they managed to fix one of the problems. The guys were great and even suggested for further in depth work I should contact dealer about possible warranty work to save me money!!!! WHO DOES THAT THESE DAYS!!! very impressed....As it was not covered anymore with warrenty and the cost I would have to occur to send to langely, I asked them to just go ahead and fix problem for me. Not only did they fix all problems, did a full checkup of all other systems for me to make sure everything is perfect for me....a newbie to a bike...is comfortable to ride. prices are great customer service also fanominal I will be recommending them to others and of course be going back to them if I EVER have an issue or problem with my scooter. read more

I am completely new to riding and owning a motorcycle. I brought my newly purchased 2007 Suzuki V Strom (DL650) in for an inspection to see if it had any issues to address before trying out longer solo rides or venturing into more remote areas. I brought my bike in late on a Tuesday, it was inspected before I woke up on Wednesday! I really appreciated that they sent an email detailing all of the findings and recommendations from the inspection. I came in Wednessday afternoon to approve the required work. Samson assured me that I would have my bike back before Friday without being asked or prompted. By midday Thursday all of the work had been completed, and again a detailed email was sent letting me know exactly what they had done and a detailed invoice was included. This is in July, the height of motorcycle season. I was impressed with how quickly the work was done, and also that their emails and invoices broke everything down. Their honesty and transparency with all of this was refreshing to see from mechanics. I was also greeted warmly, spoken to with respect, and given a firm handshake - as a new motorcyclist riding kind of a nerdy bike, this was very welcoming. Chris was the mechanic who did my work and my bike runs beautifully. Thanks Chris! Samson told me to stop by about once per month to have my chain and things checked out at no charge, and also threw in a stylish shop t-shirt. This service wasn't cheap, but I don't think it's any more expensive than any other shop. Motorcycles aren't cheap, I have to get used to that. The pre-purchase inspection was definitely a real value. I will have Rising Sun check out every bike I buy from now going forward. Expect many, many years of patronage from me! read more

Samson and all the mechanics there are nice guys and have great customer services skills! I had my Honda CBR250 in for an oil change and routine maintenance but had to take it back in again for new brake pads when they informed me I was down to 5%. The issue I had was that after dropping off the bike Saturday I was assured the bike would be ready by end of day Wednesday, but when I showed up Thursday morning, no work had been done. I know they're swamped and crazy busy and things can fall between the cracks (the cost of being popular and good right?) but if I was depending on having a working bike that morning I would have been stuck- I probably should have called earlier to ask about the progress. After I showed up and received the bad news, they put a rush on things and had it done 3 hours later which was much appreciated. They did a great job and my bike rides noticeably better. I would definitely go back! It was overall a great experience. UPDATE: After riding about 100km on my bike I have to give more praise to these guys! Compared to riding my bike before, it now feels like I'm riding on a cloud- whatever they did.. amazing! I think given what happened with the delay, I'd have to give 4.8 stars if I could. Hat's off to Sampson and the staff at Rising Sun Motorcycles. I am from the states and my son resides in Vancouver. We recently completed a trip to Alaska. My wife and I drove our 2004 BMW dual sport sidecar rig from Cincinnati Ohio to Vancouver to meet up with our son and continue on into Alaska traveling as far north as The Arctic Circle. After the trip I left my rig with my son hoping to come back the following year and see some of the areas we missed. Medical problems prevented that from happening. My bike sat for over a year and would not start. Thanks to Sampson and his mechanics at Rising Sun I am back on the road again. He diagnosed the problem, told me exactly what needed to be done and gave me a print out of the cost. The communication could not have been better. You can tell he loves what he does and he truly cares about his customer. I cannot recommend Rising Sun enough. Samson is incredibly professional with a no bullshit attitude. He doesn't try to upsell anything, just calls things as they are. I came in to have my chain and sprockets replaced as my chain was loose. He immediately stated the rear sprocket was almost brand new, but the chain hooped (which I knew). He did a quick look-over of my bike, turns out my clutch cable needs to be replaced as well. He emailed me a quote before the technician, Jeff, even started working on my bike- and that is exactly what I paid, not a penny more. How many times, when getting work done on a vehicle or bike, do you see phantom or unexpected charges when the work is finally done? "Oh, well this needed to be done so we did it without consulting you". Not here. Jeff was fast and efficient, and I received a service report of exactly what he did and checked, step by step. The transparency they operate under is a breath of fresh air. I cannot remember the last time I dealt with a business that was this honest, upfront and genuine. I have a couple more things I need done with my bike, and you can bet I will be going to Samson and crew. They've won a customer, and advocate, for life. read more

Got into Vancouver with a front tire that wouldn't hold air, making driving exciting to saybthe least. Googled "motorcycle repair" in the GVA and found Carter Honda and Rising Sun; called Carter but they were too busy to talk or call me back. Called Rising Sun at 445pm (closing at 5) and Samson was gracious and told me to come by in the morning, that they would take care of whatever was going on and get me backnon the road. The front had a 1 inch cut on it and the rear was worn out (cupped), recommended 3 different options and then made some calls to locate tires. Highly recommended the Metzeler Marathons though $100 more per tire, higher wear rating than Dunlops and Bridgestones. Installed and ready the next afternoon. Was very quick to point out that the other tires were too dangerous to drive on and he couldn't let me drive back to Prince George without changing the tires. The tires are awesome and the bike handles better than when I got it. Awesome service, a caring shop, sorry they aren't up in PG!!!! And managed to score some free t shirts! I brought my '74 Honda CB550K to Samson and the staff at Rising Sun to put on some new Avon tires as well as re-install the front fender. While I was there I asked about the bike not running so well; it was hesitating and just wouldn't go past about 70mph/6500rpm on the highway. Samson asked a few questions and we decided to scrap the old cheap pods on the carbs and install some new foam UNI pods. All of the work was done in in under 5 hours, same day, for a very fair price. I went to pick it up and after some carb tuning voodoo by Samson, I rode away with a free revving, more powerful and better handling CB550. I can't stress enough how much better the bike goes, stops and handles; it's truly night and day. I was pretty excited, so I decided to take it up Highway 1 on the North Shore to see what it could do... I 'might' have gotten up around 115mph or so at one point, amazing! I would 100% recommend Samson and the staff at Rising Sun to anyone looking for an honest, friendly shop that truly knows their stuff. read more

I have waited 3 months to post this review. I contacted Samson at RSM to get explanation, and even offered up more minor maintenance work to get relationship back on track. He went to my Linked In page and threatened to go to my employers with harassment report! Fortunately I am retired! IF you don`t mind a scattershot approach with no deduction or logic involved...where they replace as many new parts as possible and hope to solve the problem, than this is the place for you! I had an electrical issue and dropped off a regulator (that had been needlessly replaced by another mechanic), hoping they would test it. But NO, first they charge you $150 to look at everything else that could be a problem first. Then $2400 estimate, for what turned out to be a bad connector!! Just sign the blank cheque and be happy! Looks like Red Seal designation is a Farce! I paid them something like $150 to haul my motorcycle to a friends', where we fixed it for about $20! Been running great ever since. As a female walking into any type of mechanic shop, you're often met with either a patronizing attitude or a condescending one. That is not the case at rising sun. I recently purchased a Honda scooter that didn't run and was trying to fix it up myself. I came into the shop to see if they could help me out with the last few adjustments. I was apprehensive about bringing it in, since I had already tinkered with it myself. I was delighted to find that they were knowledgable and friendly. They simply asked me what I had already tried and as soon as I lifted the seat he identified the problem and fixed it during his smoke break. Prior to this experience I also brought in a motorcycle for a pre purchase inspection for a prospective buyer. The report was thorough and accurate. There were a few issues that I had previously known about and the report didn't miss any of them. I have a few more things I'd like to fix, but rather than breaking my back I'll definitely be coming back to Rising Sun. read more

Having been a small business owner for the last decade myself, I think I know a thing or two about good customer service and business practices. When it came time to service my R3, I reached out to five different shops and dealerships for info / quotes. Only two ever returned my call. Not only did Samson get back to me in less than a day, he provided me with detailed info, recommendations, and quotes. Samson and his team did a great job on my bike, adjusting errors made from previous mechanics. All work and documentation were done with transparency and there were no extra or hidden charges beyond the initial quote. The bike was ready to be picked up at the time it was promised (crucial to me since I live in South Surrey and had to go get my kids from school). The entire process was completed in a professional yet very friendly manner (Dustin helped me out at the front - thanks Dustin!). Rising Sun Motorcycles is the best repair shop I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with. They picked up my motorcycle the same day that I called in for an appointment. Rising Sun's pick up fee was about half the price of the tow truck company I had called earlier. There was no bad attitudes or intimidating service tactics - just down to earth guys working on motorcycles (really nice change to most shops I've worked with). They spent one hour working on my bike and were able to tell me exactly what was wrong with it, how much it was going to cost to repair, and how long it would take before I could have my bike back on the road. When I received the invoice it was exactly the same as the quote, and the job was done one day earlier than promised. The best part was they gave me a free shop T-shirt as I was leaving. Bought a 1978 Yamaha SR500 as my 16 year olds first MC. Brought it in for Samson to bring it back up to original spec. All work took place over this past winter and was quoted accurately and performed as promised. Being a 40 year old bike with a lot of storage years it needed a fair amount of tinkering, all fully explained. Paid the final invoice and picked it up a few months ago and parked it back in the garage. Just insured it this week and after getting a few road miles on, a couple of things weren't quite as we expected. Samson assured me he stood behind the work. RS took the bike back in, gave it a complete review, tuned up the couple of items that needed additional attention and I picked it up today with no additional charges. Couldn't be more pleased with Samson and his crew. Very professional and courteous to work with, would highly recommend them and will only use their services in the future on the bike. read more

This was my first time at Rising Sun Motorcycles and from start to finish I thought their level of service was amazing. After taking the bike in I received a very detailed report card on the status of the bike, so detailed it blew me away actually. This allowed me to have a really good honest chat with Samson about the work I'd like done - and what needed to be done!. All my emails and calls we're answered straight away when I had any questions. And of course the end result being the actual work completed on my bike which was stella (Shout out to Chris who worked on it - thx man, she purrs). Just to quickly add too, it was even getting a quick polish when I went out back to ride it away. A tiny detail but it's things like this that add up. All the boys, Matt, Samson and Jeff made me feel that my little '83 450 NIghthawk was just as important as any of the amazing, big, expensive or rare bikes they work on. Samson and Matt didnt even mind that I had them on speed dial with questions that I kept forgetting to ask and never once were rushed or condescending in any way ( a normal occurrence being female and going to the mechanic!) A few years ago I picked up a 1981 cb750 and had some problems. I took it from one shot to another with nothing but disappointment and shitty attitude, I was almost about to give up on motorcycle workshops when a friend handed me Rising Sun's card and asked me to give them a shot so I went in there not expecting much. Right off the bat I was getting calls from their shop with regular updates on my bike and emails with full details of what needed to be done etc. They had my confidence..This is what I call being professional. Finally I picked up my bike and its been riding smooth like butter. These guys have it right. They are Professional, honest and straightforward. I needed brakes for my 2007 Bonneville, a rotor for the back and pads back and front. I took it down to Rising Sun and was told I'd have a quote back by the end of the day for the rotor. I had to call the next day and ask for the quote. The rotor needed ordering and I was told 5-7 days. 9 days later, I emailed to see if the bike was ready. Rather than a response, I got emailed the bill. How long had it been ready? No indication. The service is a bit meh, but the work was spot on. I can stop again. The new rotor on the back is good one (SunTour) and the pads are working great. No complaints about the work. I like being able to pay right away with e-transfers. Glad I got the work done, but missed a few solid riding days waiting and still don't have an answer on when the part arrived and when the work was actually completed. read more
