This is a very long overdue review for Riskguard as I have been a client of theirs for over 20 years! Home insurance, family health insurance, Business liability and workers comp policies - Riskguard have got me covered in all of them. And it's really a pleasure to still see a family run operation thriving in SF these days. Geoff, Christine, Kelson and the whole Riskguard team are all absolutely amazingly helpful. I really enjoy working with them, because not only do offer excellent customer service (they shop around to get their clients the best possible coverage at the best possible ricing) - they actually go above and beyond and make me my family feel like part of their family. They pick up the phone (what a novel concept!) and answer your questions right away, they will call or email your insurance carrier on your behalf if you have any issues - the team are just incredibly helpful. It's a side of business that sadly is lacking from many companies these days. When I started our homeless non-profit, maybe the best advice I got was to talk to Geoff at Riskguard. The team at Riskguard researched the heck out of our options, gave us great advice, and provided the documents we needed for our contracted partners. They did it once to set us up and they've been there for us every year since. We've only had a couple of claims. Both times Riskguard walked us through the process and the insurance company they had recommended stood up for us in a powerful way. We work with many bureaucratic and institutional partners and none match the quick turn around at Riskguard when we have a question or need a document. Excellent customer service for an umbrella policy. I contacted Riskguard via email and they got back to me in a couple of hours. We sent a half dozen emails back and forth clarifying details. Kelson provided quotes for 2 different companies and I purchased my policy that day. I had contacted many agents previously and most never got back to me. The ones that did were more expensive or only offered umbrella coverage to existing customers. I'll recommend Riskguard and Kelson for purchasing umbrella insurance to anyone who asks! Let me be clear--they did NOT assist with the claim, nor direct us to the proper contacts. They were not friendly, nor could they get it together to "ask questions" professionally. (I've been in the business of asking questions for only... all of my life.) They left us more confused than before we called them. They have very limited hours. They confronted my mother about my previous review, gave her a nasty attitude, and bullied her to the point she insisted I take my review down... all while she was trying to get assistance for a renewal quote or for an accident we were also not at fault. Side notes: My sweet, innocent mom flips people off with her thumb (because she doesn't know which finger to use), and she never uses expletives. She thinks the word "suck" is one of them. After her last encounter, she said this company SUCKS. I complained about the cab company here because when I called the other party's insurance company, they said they'd already mailed the check. Still no sign of it. When I called every day after that, the person was on an extended vacation whose mailbox eventually got way too full to leave messages on. No assistance in representation to recover money for damages. And why the heck are they constantly changing their name? read more

They provided abysmal customer service during our time of need multiple times. Our agent had the nerve to mention a previous negative review on Yelp, as if to imply that we aren't allowed to voice our concerns on public review forums if we wanted to maintain any semblance of good customer service (which they weren't providing anyways). They didn't seem to care to explain much and were impatient when questioned. We switched as soon as we could after their most recent stint of rotten customer service after somebody hit our car. Just got some quotes from this agency and was very impressed with how they handled my somewhat complex insurance situation - Auto + Renters + Umbrella + Earthquake. I worked with Kelson and he got me quotes from multiple carriers in a very short period of time without having to come into the office/sit on the phone. In the end, they weren't able to come out on top in terms of price - but that's not something they can control due to the nature of the insurance biz. However, I will definitely keep them on my preferred agency list when I shop my policies around in the near future due to their professional service. read more

They helped me find health insurance when I was down and out and had pre-existing conditions (before Obamacare came along), and we worked long and hard to find a policy that would work for me. Also, they helped me find a better deal for my home insurance, and they're there when I need help to look for better car insurance rates. Who writes Yelp reviews about their insurance guy? Apparently people who have incredible insurance agents. I have worked with Geoff Herman for about two years now, and have nothing but good things to say about him. He is prompt, efficient, and a great communicator - fast on email and always explains things in a way that I can understand. I'm a new business owner - started a sole proprietorship and have now grown to an S-corp - and he has worked with me on literally all of my insurance needs, educating me on what I need and talking me through the pros and cons. He consistently follows through on my open plans and new requests, filing all the paperwork, etc. and I always know he's working to get me the best deal on my policies. We contacted Riskguard directly through Yelp while shopping around for home insurance policies. Kelson replied almost instantly, answered all of my questions, and pulled up a number of proposals from various carriers. He came back with a policy that was 30% cheaper than what any other agency could find while also having more generous coverages than any other proposal. Setting up our policy was dead simple; most of the coordination happened behind the scenes, and we were able to DocuSign the final agreement without having to be anywhere in person. I don't agree with y L. as Irene Herman Ins does a great job at caring for her clients including me. There is a difference between servicing a customer and assigning a claim adjustor. For instance, I had a claim and Irene Herman Ins called it into CSE. CSE called me on the next day and made an appointment to see my vehicle. Unfortunately, it was a totally loss. This means that my cost of repair exceeds the value of my vehicle. Within 12 days, I was sent a check to cover my accident. CSE was great and Irene Herman Ins was efficient in helping me. The agent's duty with the claim is to "answer questions" and to give advise. Irene Herman's agency has provided very sound advise. I was told that if I'm having claim problems, I can always call them. This is true because I'm not an insurance expert so things can get easily confused. Irene Herman Insurance has a great staff and is always try their best to answer their calls. They are unlike other agencies that only has a voice-mail. I like doing insurance with them because they provide personal service for my home, auto, umbrella and my business. I think it's nice to have an insurance agent that understand all kinds of insurance. I also like CSE(Civil Service Ins) because it is local insurance company. read more
