First time coming here and I'm sad that it took me this long to find this nice place to get breakfast. Came here for a meeting with friends and the service was good and the food was delicious. Plenty of tables and nice places to sit. It did get a little noisy at times but, it was ok. Waitress was attentive and food was brought quickly. Place was clean. Bad thing...they don't allow service dogs, except for blind patrons. To me, a service dog is a service dog and they should not be discriminated. read more

I'm a person with disabilities and I was denied service by the owner/employer of the restaurant due to my service animal. Instead of asking me the two only required questions that restaurant owners and employees are required to ask to those with disabilities and service animals, she kept insinuating that no pets are allowed and kept pointing to her own sign on the window. I clearly pointed to that same sign that she was pointing to, where it clearly says no pets allowed but service animals are welcomed & she still refused to acknowledge the legality of the situation. Instead of arguing I just walked away, as the owner's knowledge in such situations involving those with disabilities and service animals is clearly lacking. Not only should employees be educated in the legalities but more importantly the owner or employer should be educated in the legalities involving persons with disabilities & their service animals, when owning and running a restaurant read more

I recently came back to my home state, New Mexico, to visit family. While family was the most important reason for my trip, I can't deny that I was also looking forward to eating the delicious food for which New Mexico is well known. The day before, my aunt and I had lunch at Montano's (DELICIOUS!), but I just can't get enough of yummy sopapillas, enchiladas, etc..., so my whole family went to Rita's today. Such a disappointing experience! I ordered the chile rellenos plate, with red chile, and found out that they don't even make them (the rellenos) at the restaurant. They are premade-badly, I might add-and they were dry and just plain awful! They had just a dribble of red sauce, so that was a letdown. The sopapillas were very greasy. The service was great though, the only redeeming factor. Jessica was super nice and attentive. I just was very sad that my "last meal" in New Mexico was so terrible. read more

My husband's burrito was soggy, tortilla was not properly prepared. Carne Adovada was bland, lacked flavor, needed seasoning. Sopapillas needed a bit more time in the fryer, a bit light and doughy. Service was great, new server and took the time to learn new information. read more

Had the pleasure of going to Rita's for the first time and really disappointed in myself for waiting so long. The dining area is filled with art for sale which is all different and lovely to look at. Our waitress was amazingly friendly and helpful. The food came out fast, hot, and delicious. The chile had a great flavor but was not too hot. I got the combo plate and the cheese enchilada was packed with a ton of cheese. The beef enchilada was filled with a lot of beef, and the tamale was my absolute favorite part. They put cheese on top and the spice in the tamale itself was superb! My husband loved his chicken chimichanga and we both had leftovers for dinner! read more

My mother, my self, and my cousin walked in and were seated. There were two parties of 2 people behind us and two walk In orders to go. They were all assisted and orders put in. I went 15 min. later and told the owner. She said someone will be there now. Still no one assisted us. A party of 10 came in and were sat, orders taken. We got up to leave. I went again and was going to tell the owner, she walked off as she seen me coming. I told the manager and she stated they didn't see us come in. Busy today inside this restaurant in Belen. We were seated pretty fast and then we waited...Finally our waitress came to our table and apologized for being so busy, no biggie. She brought our drinks and chips and salsa and then I didn't see her again til it was time to leave. Another woman brought the food and we never got a soda refill or extra napkins. We asked for a side of guacamole and it never came. Besides that, the food was really good. My burger was good size and tasted well seasoned. The green chile on the burger was good but the red chile on my fries seemed not fully blended. And the portion of red chile cheese fries was really small. I would mention the waitress more but she's still missing lol. I think I caught them at a really busy time so I'm looking forward to coming back again and trying some other items on the menu. While I was paying the clerk said the brownies were complimentary after the meal so we took some and it was delicious. I usually tip well but I left 20% because the service was pretty bad. Really enjoyed our lunch here. FOOD was very fresh and flavorful. They were out of the special of the day and replaced with the friday's one, which was a cheeseburger with all the fixings and a side of tatertots. My friend ordered that for $5.99. He said it was great and I was impressed that they even toasted the bun. I ordered the Navajo taco with the carne adovado and was very pleased. I had the red and green sauce on the side. The sauce on the carne ended up to be enough but did add a little of the extra sauce as well. Portions on both meals were sufficient and filling. CUSTOMER SERVICE was impressive. Started with a welcoming greeting as we walked in. Ryan our waiter was Top-notch. Very attentive, adressed us professionally, knew his menu well. The softdrinks were refilled before we realuzed we needed them refilled. We inquired about the desserts and since they didn't have any of their housemabe ones available, we were offered a complimentary slice. For a small town, this is a nice restaurant to have in the area. They have an assortment of mexican dishes and a daily special. Ever hear of a green cheese philly on a tortilla? This place had it. Chip and salsa are available and sopapillas with honey seemed to be standard. I love sopapillas and was thrilled to see these popped up on the table. Food overall was good. Much better than food I had out in eastern New Mexico. The restaurant seemed like a local staple with many people greeting each other. Decoration is old fashioned but it's a family restaurant. Not everything needs to be hip. Bathrooms are a bit outdated, but they were clean. Service was friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back again! read more

Three of us stopped for breakfast and had huevos rancheros, and chicken fried steak n eggs with chopped green chile in the gravy. Also had a waffle and sopapillas. All the food was great , chopped green chile w gravy was fire. The guys said the red was tasty as well. Sopapillas were very good too. They offered us homemade cookies before we left. The Chili Rellenos were amazing and my husbands chicken fried steak sandwich was delicious.

The enchilada's were good and so was the red chile. We barely saw the server, but there was no real need for additional service. I only mention it to say that we can't say much about the service everyone seemed nice though. They don't bring out chips and salsa. I can't give five stars to any New Mexican restaurant that doesn't automatically offer chips and salsa! That is MAJOR, in my eyes. But, we looked around and only one guy had some and it was in a small basket that was only half filled with a small salsa set down into the basket to take up space. It didn't look very appealing even though I crave chips and salsa! Oh well. Maybe next time. Hopefully. read more

Worst service ever!! I had to get up and get my own napkins, ketchup, hot sauce, multiple times. Never came around and asked us if we needed anything!! I can handle the food taking forever to come out which it did!! But the waitresses ALL look MISERABLE not nice at all!! Like are they not taught to smile, or be polite and courteous at minimum!!! Amber who took our drink order was super rude!!! My dad was trying to order his food and she says "can I just get your drink order" and walked away after let me teach you what your server could have done..."im sorry I'm only taking drink orders your server will be around shortly to take food orders" but NO just rude!!! And on top of that when we had to ask for things repeatedly like tortillas, THEY CAME OUT COLD!! food was good but the service needs a COMPLETE TURN OVER!! the bus boy and skinny little hostess were the only people there who were worth anything!!!! Special note of extremely tender fry bread. - Flavorful coffee. Creamer cups came in both French vanilla and half-&-half. Nice to have the choice. - Overall clean premises. Exception noted below. - Bright & light dining room. - Friendly waitress. Welcoming feeling. CON'S: - Dining partner ordered eggs over easy. They arrived over cooked. Pretty much medium hard. - *SLOW!!!!* That is S-L-O-W in a major way. As in over 75 minutes to order, receive, & consume two on-the-menu, not-complex breakfast orders (a Navajo taco and two eggs with toast). The tables were pretty sparsely populated, so not a crunch load on the kitchen. The food appeared to be made to order, which would explain some degree of time needed for prepping & cooking, but the waiting grew painful as it stretched on & on & on. - Waitresses, while friendly, took very long times to get back to table to take food order or check on us. They seemed to be somewhat aimlessly wandering about enough of the time to not be focused on the customers. Requested extra napkins took about a half hour to be delivered. In that time waitress passed close to our table a few times servicing other customers, but forgetting the napkins. She did bring them. Eventually. - Dining partner grew exasperated enough waiting to flag waitress for waters that they simply went up front & got the waters for us. (Credit to waitress for getting our coffees quickly when first seating us.) - While premises appeared clean overall, there were dirty tables that remained unbussed (i.e. not cleared off) for extended periods of time. I believe one table of dirty dishes I noted on our exit had been in that condition when we arrived an hour and a quarter before. - Service was so slow we eventually walked up to the front counter without our tickets to pay our bills. BOTTOM LINE: I may eat at Rita's New Mexican Restaurant again for the flavorful food & inexpensive prices, but will have my expectations adjusted for a long term visit. Good little restaurant in the heart of Belen. Decent sized portions and a wide variety if menu items. This is the original home of the Jackson Club (although they have changed the name to the KOA club) which is a ham, turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo sandwich on a sopapilla instead of bread. Almost 3 years later and made our way back here. What a great decision! The food was excellent, beans were amazing, sopa's were awesome and the service was excellent. I am happy to say that last time was just a bad day, it happens. I will definitely be going back to Rita's now :) read more
