I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes, and I cannot recommend Cincinnati Eye Institute…read morehighly enough. Dr. Robert Osher, my surgeon, has a reputation for being thorough, and it is certainly true. He took the time to explain everything, both before and after the procedure. It's hard to imagine anyone replacing him, but I hope he is training a new doctor to be as careful and attentive as he is. His assistant, Heather, really went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure I had the medications I needed, monitor my eye pressure, and contact Dr. Osher with updates. She even helped me find a discount coupon so I could afford the eye drops I needed to bring my eye pressure down! She also went out of her way to ensure that I would get a refund after I was mistakenly charged a co-pay for a follow-up visit. She is so competent, capable, and kind that I hope she will consider becoming an eye doctor herself someday.

Today, I had a completely unacceptable experience at the Cincinnati Eye Institute location in Blue…read moreAsh that I feel obligated to document for you in a formal review. I left my place of work and arrived at CEI Blue Ash at 9:25am for a 9:30am appointment (I had completed their pre-registration process several days before). A large sign said "Please wait to be called" so I stood at the sign for about 30 seconds. A lady at the nearest (corner) desk called me over, took my name and birth date, and told me to have a seat and wait to be called back. All good. Sixty-five (65) minutes later, after I had watched about 3 cycles of patients come and go from that first waiting area, I approached the desk and asked a different receptionist if there was a problem. She once again asked for my information and, after looking me up on the computer, said, "It says here that you were marked as a NO-SHOW." Are you kidding me? It was incomprehensible to me that the waiting room had filled up and emptied out 3 times, yet not one of the 3-4 receptionists sitting ten feet from me had the presence of mind during their down time to pick up on the fact that I had been sitting there for a VERY LONG time. This post is about more than just my experience today. At 52, I would guess (based on 65 solid minutes of observation) that I am at least 20 years younger than the average age of their patient population. These folks have far more serious eye problems on top of other physical limitations and needs (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.). If it happened to me, it can happen to any of them, which could carry far more serious consequences and liability. Today's negligence aside, I have always felt like CEI is somewhat of a meat market that just wants to keep billing my insurance and collecting copays on the regular. I have borderline but normal eye pressures, yet they keep scheduling 6-month appointments to check them like I'm half blind. The whole operation has a retail shopping mall vibe, which raises my suspicions that they are over-booking me just to keep their revenues up. They really should be investigated. Patients beware.

There's a reason why Midwest Eye Center, Cincinnati, OH does not have a patient review portal. Dr…read more Maryam Naqvi performed routine cataract surgery on my husband in May, 2025 at the Kenwood office. It was anything but routine, as she inserted another patient's lens into his eye, which was discovered during his 1week follow-up visit. She completed the replacement procedure for the wrong lens, but his cornea was scratched & iris torn during the process. A Midwest Eye Center Director performed emergency surgery later that day to avoid infection of the eye; and was under the Director's care for the next few weeks to monitor his eye healing. My husband is currently under care with different eye specialists as he slowly recovers. As Dr. Naqvi smiles confidently from the front cover of Cincinnati Magazine's 'Cincinnati Top Doctors' and on its pages. One has to wonder how she can be deemed "the best" having compromised her patient's well-being through a poorly mismanaged process of care.

I'm 6 hours post surgery, still wearing my sunglasses and recovering. I can't review my new vision…read moreyet as it takes time to fully recover, so I'll update this as soon as I can, but I wanted to review the facility, staff, doctor, and procedure while it was still fresh on my mind. First off - if you're trying to get the "$250 per eye" price they advertise you have to have a very minor prescription. Most don't. It's not false advertising and they put those details in the fine print like every other advertiser. The facility is very nice and well kept. The staff are all very friendly. The day of my consultation they were very thorough in explaining the procedure and answering my questions as well as performing the exam to ensure that I was a good candidate for Lasik. The only thing I wish they'd warned me about before the consultation was that I'd be dilated. On the day of the procedure the three or four nurses in the procedure room were awesome. They talked to me though the entire surgery, which took less than 10 minutes from start to finish and the the "work" on my eyes was less than a minute per eye. The doctor was SUPER personable and you could tell he truly cared about his patients. He's performed Lasik over 108,000 eyeballs!!! I can still see, though my eyes are watery and sensitive, and the surgery was basically painless. There were a few moments things were "uncomfortable", but not bad at all!

However, I decided to go through with the visit since there was no cost for the evaluation. My experience was nothing like how the negative reviews presented LasikPlus. I found the staff to be very friendly and professional and there was absolutely no hint of pressure to write a review, purchase more services or anything else. Dr. Holden was the most personable and informative eye doctor I've ever visited. I was treated as a valued patient throughout the process, even after it was determined I was not a good candidate for lasik. People who try and harm a reputable business by writing bad reviews are just another category of scammers. Although I'm obviously unqualified to review their services, I can certainly tell you LasikPlus offers excellent customer service.

He is very personable, and his staff is professional and nice. I felt comfortable from the very beginning, and never doubted my decision. Dr. Varley is personable and accomplished; I have a major fear of doctors and he put me at ease. The Lasik procedure itself is pretty simple, it only takes a few minutes from start to finish, but it's pretty scary in thought...the doctors actually cut into your eyeball using lasers. Patients are given a "laughing gas" sort of medication to calm and are then led to the surgery room, where eyes are completely numb. From there, Dr. Varley walks his patients through each step of the process. The scariest part for me was when he said, "Ok, you're going to be blind in this eye for a few seconds." I freaked, but Dr. Varley counted back from ten and as soon as he hit "zero," I could see again-and clearly! After the procedure I was required to wear goggles for a few weeks and I couldn't touch/rub my eyes for a few months, but my vision was perfect from the second the medication wore off. Now, more than three years later, my vision is still a perfect 20/20. I still visit Dr. Varley's office once a year for check-ups, and each time I thank him for getting rid of my glasses and contacts forever!
