Shauna replied swiftly that it was, and that a remote session was just as effective as meeting in person. I immediately signed on. I'm so glad I did. I looked forward to every single one of my sessions with Shauna. She is empathetic, smart, non-judgmental, curious, funny, and kind. I immediately trusted her to the point where I was able to reveal to her things I couldn't tell anyone else. And most of all, the effect of her work was swift and damn near magical. I wasn't working on a particular issue, like quitting smoking or something, and was worried how to articulate a more diffuse frustration and depression. But Shauna not only listened carefully and sympathetically to my ramblings, she was able to guide me toward creating a focus that got to the root of what was troubling me. It's hard to describe the effects of hypnosis, and I'm sure it's a little different for everyone. For me, it felt like a thousand little shifts in my thinking and my actions took place over the course of the weeks that we worked together. Shauna gave me a number of techniques to use outside of our sessions, and I used them all. But it wasn't the arduous heavy lifting kind of work that therapy can be. Rather, it felt more like spreading puzzle pieces out on a table and clearly seeing how to assemble it rather than randomly trying to jam stuff together then hitting it all with a hammer to make sure it stays in place. After using the hammer method for who knows how long, Shauna's feather-light approach is a revelation. I carved new neural pathways without even knowing it, until one day I noticed myself functioning in an entirely new and different way. When confronted with my old issues and triggers, I now know how to give myself the space and opportunity to react in new, healthier ways.
