I had a horrible experience here. I tried to order a burger with no cheese, and specifically asked for no cheese. The burger came over 45 mins later (after I sat with an empty beer for over 20 mins) with cheese on it. All this was understandable, I've had my order come with cheese countless times, dairy allergies are hard for people to grasp and they were busy. I asked for the burger to be re-done, and she assured me it would be. When the burger came back 2 minutes later with the cheese scraped off and bits still on there I was none too pleased. If folks are willing to lie to your face about what they are doing with your food, pro tip: DO NOT EAT IT. You don't know what else they did to it. When I sent it back and declined anything else I am fairly sure I heard them shouting curses about me in the back (someone in the kitchen shouted "F*** you!") and the staff never really apologized and seemed to be in a rush to get rid of us. Descent food, a bit slow on the service but can some of the prices can don't make sense. A filet mignon for example is $36 which is excessive esp for a place that's not a steak house but then other items are pretty reasonable like a salmon ceasar salad for $21 which is very good. I went to Ritz Cafe on Memorial Day weekend. My family was very content and happy there. This is why we returned last night. I ordered the thick cut tuna entree. That night I was very ill until the next day. I still feel very sick so I went to Citymd. The doctor told me right away that it was scombroid poisoning. All of my symptoms matched what he showed me. I will not be going back to the Ritz Cafe. I will also be calling them to alert them that they aren't storing their fish properly. read more

I really struggled between giving this place one star or two. I have been wanting to eat here for years. Friends and family of mine have worked here in the past and from the stories I've heard, it is definitely worth a visit for lunch or dinner. So finally I was able to finagle a Sunday morning off of work and I headed here with my family around noon. Was shocked as I walked inside to see that what I thought was a large restaurant was mostly bar with a few tables along the left and front areas. We were seated on the left side and the ambiance was just lousy. That's the only way to describe it, the decor here is minimal and extremely outdated. We had decided to come here because of the view of Northport Harbor and because of the rave reviews I had heard about the food. Well our view was the bar so I was banking on the food being delicious. The menu was awkward, it had lunch and dinner items with a small brunch section smack dab in the middle. They have a fourteen dollar brunch special that comes with a mimosa or bloody mary. All eight of us got a drink. Our server was friendly, inattentive and inexperienced. Before our breakfast came out we were each served fresh fruit in a wine glass. Cute idea I guess, but didn't feel appropriate for the setting we were in. Next came a basket full of muffins and croissants that well lets just say it wasn't worth having a cheat day on that. Then finally, 50 minutes after ordering I see our food come out, or so I thought. Six of us got our meals while two of us never received food. Our waitress came out to see how everything was and then noticed two people didn't get anything. She apologized, went back into the kitchen and then Finally fifteen minutes later brought the last two dishes out. By the time the rest of my family got their food, everybody else was done. It was kind of embarrassing. It would have been fine if the food was spectacular but it wasn't. My family does not leave food on their plate but the three of us who got the apple french toast barely took more than a bite. The descriptions from the menu were not what we were given. Food that was supposed to come with home fries didn't. Food that was supposed to come with toast, didn't. I have never met an alcoholic drink that I couldn't drink and the bloody mary's were plain awful. We asked for a side of tomato juice to tone down the saltiness but it tasted like salt on the rocks with a splash of vodka. The mimosas were full when we left too. I don't know if this place had an off day, cook and bartenders were hungover maybe? Whatever it was, it was not enough to bring me back. Shrugs. I came here for dinner on Memorial Day. There were 5 of us and the waitress said it would probably be a 45 minute wait. That was fine and we went to the bar to grab drinks. The bar wasn't too full, but it took the bartender 15 minutes before she acknowledged our group, only to say it would be a few minutes. If you're busy, fine, but there weren't many people there. When she finally came over to us, she barely gave us a chance to place our drink order before exclaiming "Speak, Speak, Speak!" with hand motions to indicate we needed to hurry. Strike one. Strike two was pouring my father-in-law a Guinness that was complete foam. It took 10 minutes for the beer to settled and it was still mostly foam. We ordered appetizers while we waited, which were pretty good. We split the baked clams, clams casino, pulled pork wontons, and calamari. My only complaint was the calamari which was rubbery and served with what tasted like canned marinara with a few red pepper flakes. The bartender seemed annoyed that we chose to order appetizers because she had to give paying customers attention. Then when we closed our bar tab to move to a table for dinner, we got an attitude from her. Dinner was just okay. I got pasta with a pink sauce and smoked salmon. Nothing to write home about. My husband got angel hair with a lemon butter sauce and sautéed bay scallops. My father-in-law got ravioli in a pink sauce, brother-in-law got blacked tuna (way over-cooked after ordering rare), and my mother-in-law got a greek salad with grilled chicken. It took forever for us to get drinks, food, and the check. We sat for close to 20 minutes while we waited for the waitress to stop talking and take our credit card so we could leave. She also chewed gum akin to a cow chewing cud. Strike three...you're out! This was after we told her we were in a bit of a rush to leave because my father-in-law wanted to get to the boat before it got dark. The bottom line is the service is what really makes this place not worth it. For food that was only okay and prices that were on the higher end for a somewhere rundown, it will definitely not be a place to return. read more

Went here with friends for drinks & appetizers. The restaurant is small crowded and kind of missing any kind of ambiance. After a few minutes wait we were seated & ordered. I highly recommend the coconut shrimp with mango salsa, the cagun shrimp not so much as they were grossly over spiced The service was prompt but nothing I'd call friendly there was nothing here that made me say I love it or I hate it. Service was just ok, they didn't finish setting the table and only brought utensils and napkins after we asked, waitress was hard to get a hold of to refill our glasses with water. Food was mediocre at best. The mashed potatoes that came with 3 dishes (steak and lamb chops) tasted like it came out of a box, the oysters had pieces of shells in them, the lamb was soggy and the steak looked like it was previously frozen. On top of that, a large group of early 20 somethings came in and started to do shots at the bar and brought the restaurant noise level to a level where you couldn't even hear the person next to you speak. Large special menu which is also over the place as well as Sunday night specials. A little excessive. Food was good. Service was okay. The Ritz is a friendly, attractive eatery and watering hole on Woodbine Avenue in Northport. It's a pleasant setting that overlooks the park and the harbor. We were there on a cold evening and really enjoyed the sunset and the warmth of the establishment. They have a surprisingly large menu that ranges from inexpensive bar fare and burgers all the way up to some elaborate dinners with lots of daily specials. At the beginning of the meal they serve a basket of good quality breads accompanied by a roasted head of garlic. You scoop it out and use it as a nice tasting spread. I started with the chicken wings. They were big, nicely battered, seasoned and fried in a way that made them stay crispy. Skip their smoky hot sauce, use the blue cheese dip instead. For the main meal I had the shrimp scampi. It was superb. Jumbo shrimp in a butter and garlic sauce with fresh julienne vegetables and a heap of mashed potatoes in the middle. Mashed potatoes with scampi? Yes, and they are a great delivery vehicle for the remaining sauce. It's a satisfying combination that works. Amanda was our server. She was friendly and helpful and tried hard to make our evening into one of the nicest restaurant experiences we've had in years. read more

The Ritz has been my husband's and my favorite restaurant for years! We go over to Northport on our boat just to eat there. Joe the owner is always warm and welcoming, and Chef John is fabulous. A casual and friendly atmosphere with impeccable food that is the most consistent of anywhere we have ever been. Guaranteed the best Francese you will ever have, whether you want chicken, veal or lobster (my husband's favorite!). The rack of lamb is a full rack, and it's the best Fra Diavolo sauce I've ever had. Everything is amazing, be sure to get the clams casino and eggplant rollatini as well. Huge variety on the menu that will please any palate and generous portions too. Our only real recommendation is be sure to go hungry! read more

Just had my first experience at The Ritz Cafe. It was not dull to say the least. A customer had passed out after we had just finished our apps. The restaurant panicked but the staff was so professional and calmed everyone down. Our waitress Lauren G. was in the medical field as well as waitressing and immediately took control until EMS arrived. Customer looked like she e's going to be fine as they wheeled her out the door. Let's talk about the service and food. I give it 5 stars all around. It's not cheap. I'm not going to lie. But you are right on the Northport harbor so you have to expect to pay a little more. The portions are a very nice size, so that always makes you feel better. And due tobthe circumstances they bought us desert. Oh, and I was drinking Guiness beer. My husband and I with another couple decided to have lunch there yesterday. It was about 4pm and no one was dining there yet. Upon walking in I noticed an offensive odor smelling like it came from the bathroom. I noticed they had the side front door open. I mentioned this to the waitress and she told me it was from low tide. I found that odd since we just walked in from outside and there was no odor. Before ordering I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and it smelled like a cesspool! I felt actually nauseous and quite annoyed that I was lied to. I told my husband I wasn't eating because of the awful smell. A restaurant should smell of great food cooking NOT this. Our friends ordered food and later mentioned again to the waitress about the odor at that point she said we have a cesspool company coming to fix that! that said I will never go again! read more

Another typical restaurant by the water with Average food at best! First time here for lunch, only 3 other tables occupied. I first ordered a salad, never brought out as my friend waited too before he ate his soup. I finally got to mentioned it when our lunch came out, the Response was "sorry, I'll give you free refill (soda) "we normally don't give free refills ". Gee thanks! This place is almost perfect! The menu is varied, the taste of the food is great, it is the typical combination of a foodie's paradise with mama's kitchen. It is not glamorous, the ambiance is not sophisticated, but it gives you much more than just any other local restaurant would. The prices are reasonable and the dishes are perfectly portion and one for regular meal. One of my favorite dishes there is the shrimp stuffed avocado. The menu does change though so you may not find it every time you go, but the service is decent, and the food is worth the trip. It is located in a very nice setting also, although there's no outside seating you're right across from a historical children's playground that borders the sound. It is one of my favorite places to eat in Northport Village. read more

My Monte Cristo and accompanying French Fries were overly oily and my wife's Pecan Crusted Brie Salad was basically some field greens and a half pound block of deep fried brie. This was a cute place for lunch, but not a huge selection. The value was not great on the regular menu, but we ordered off the $10 lunch special menu which was better. The pear and pecan salad that was got was delicious, and the fried clams were fine but nothing special. We are locals and have been to every place in northport except for this one. We have never found the food in town to be so great other than Bistro. So sorry it took us so long to dine here. It's now #1 on our list. We were a party of 4 and we were all thrilled with our food, atmosphere and the service. They gave us warm bread with roasted garlic and a great dip when we sat down. We were all starving so this was perfect. Those little touches go a long way. We also happen to notice a patron who was drinking quite heavily at the bar and we were relieved when we noticed a gentleman (could have been the owner) escort her out to a cab. We were relieved to see she wasn't driving and it showed us it's a real neighborhood place where people are looking out for each other. The gentleman also came over to our table when we were dining and asked if everything was OK. Very rarely do you so see that happen. We will be returning very soon! read more
