To say I love Roto Cafe is an absolute understatement. Lately, Bay Shore has been introducing some high quality dining establishments and Roto is creme de la creme! I was served by Queen who was an absolute sweetheart and made sure my order was made to perfection (see heart drink for reference). The other diners also looked very happy and seemed to be enjoying the beautiful decor as much as I did(I tried not to photograph them). It honestly felt like I was transported to Brooklyn. And the sandwich and Bom drink I got were enough to still have me thinking about it as I'm writing this post. Stopped in for a pickup order on my lunch break. It was pretty busy with a long line, but it moved quickly. I ordered the Cuban sandwich, which came with house chips. Customer service was fast and friendly, and the decor felt modern and chill. When I got home, I was a bit surprised by the size of the sandwich, especially for $19 and change. Being from Florida, I'm used to much larger Cuban sandwiches, so I had hoped to split it. That said, the flavors were solid and everything tasted fresh. I'd definitely consider stopping in again, especially to dine in and enjoy the atmosphere. While prices are on the higher side, it seems like a nice spot to sit down and take in the vibe. read more

Busy cafe with a very interesting menu and nice staff. There is a constant flow of people coming and going. I think they try to keep a fast pace and keep it flowing, which is a good thing. I ordered my coffees and a breakfast burrito with sauces on the side (I told the girl my guy cannot eat mayo) to share with my guy. I asked for bacon instead of chorizo, which they swapped with no problem. when our food came, we were hungry and just started eating the burrito. we quickly realized there was a lot of aioli/mayo on the burrito. The green sauce was on the side, But the mayo was not, and there was a lot of it on the burrito. when I told the girl at the counter, she said that there was not mayo in the burrito and I told her aïoli is mayo and there's definitely a lot of it in the burrito. They gave me a new one with no problem. I'm not sure why the cappuccino came in a to go cup when we were staying. It just taste better in a glass cup, so we were disappointed about that. When we got the burrito without the aïoli in it, it tasted good. We were sharing so my half had no bacon and one potato in it. The other half had a lot of bacon and a lot of potato in it. It would've been nice if it was balanced throughout the whole burrito. I think this place has potential to be amazing. There's a few things that need to be concentrated on. I think I'd rather wait a little bit longer for my food for it to be 100% correct then being rushed out with the mistakes. Overall, it's a nice experience, but not 100%. read more

Finally got to try Bay Shore's coffee shop, Roto, which is a block over from Main St. unfortunately , I didn't care for their coffee, it was a bit bitter for me, I ended up adding more sugar to it. It's a very tiny spot, but they also have a bar area. I was happy to see they had French toast on their menu. So of course, that's what I had to order. We found a table to sit, but it was dirty. We asked for someone to help us out, and he quickly cleaned it up. read more

The atmosphere is clean, fresh, and calm, which I love. I got oat honey latte and an Americano -- both were perfect. Heads up though a medium is tiny. They also did not have regular sugar (weird but maybe they just ran out). I got avocado toast which was very good. They keep it simple and clean. I would go back again. read more

A new "all day" cafe in the heart of Bayshore, LI! Owners are sweet and working so hard to meet the demand of this place. The inside is beautiful and reminded me a bit of Ralph's cafe in NYC, but is uniquely its own. Outdoor space is also beautiful and they had a live guitarist playing music this Saturday. Service was great, a tiny bit slower than expected but it was insanely busy. Now to the coffee and food items. I got an iced bananas foster latte (cortado style for less milk) and it was fantastic and not too sweet. I could tell the syrup was homemade with real bananas. My fiance got an iced vanilla latte (also cortado style) which was also very good and made with real vanilla beans. If you prefer a sweeter coffee, I suggest adding your own sweetener because the syrups are not very sweet, but I liked that because you can always add sweetness and you can't subtract it! We also tried a few breakfast items. I tried the lox toast which was perfect in all ways. Fresh rosettes of lox, scallion cream cheese, chives, and fresh lemon. My favorite place to eat dinner, best chef in town!!!! We visited for Valentine's Day, which is a rarity for my husband and me. We've actually never gone out for Valentine's Day before. But we've visited Roto a few times for dinner, and they truly have the best dinner options in town. The dinner menu rotates, so it feels like you're going to a different restaurant every time, but the options never disappoint. This time it was a fixed menu, and when I tell you every serving was perfect, no detail was overlooked. The caviar play on sour cream and onion was amazing! The short rib was tender, melt in your mouth good. Even the little gem salad had the most amazing flavors, perfectly balanced! My favorite was the chocolate cake, delicate and not overly sweet. I'm not a sweets girl, and I ate the leftovers the next day, did not share! The service is so attentive. We visited once for dinner, and the second time the server already remembered our favorite wine. The ambiance is absolutely perfect for a date night. I will continue to visit. I'm on a mission to try every coffee spot on Long Island. Went to Roto today in Bayshore. The inside was decorated very nice, gave a library feel almost. Lots of people inside doing work on their laptops. They have indoor and outdoor seating. I was sitting outside and moved inside because it got very windy. The latte was FANTASTIC! One of the best I've had so far. The grilled cheese was good, my one downfall is I added steak and crispy onions and when it came out it was roast beef. It was good but when I add on steak I'm not expecting roast beef and would rather them state that on the menu. The woman at the counter was kind and appreciated me brining up my dirty plate. The reason I gave this place a 3 was because of the steak issue and also I think they need more seating in the open space. I sat at a 2 top and people waiting on line were on top of me which was uncomfortable. Will give them another try in the future. read more

I went here for the first time for iced coffee on a Saturday, the inside is done so well with a separate bar for cocktails and a separate coffee area. The vibe was nice and I wish I had time to sit a while. The service was forties and fast and before I could finish my sentence they reassured me they would make an iced coffee that I would enjoy and they were right. I went back the next day for another. I look forward to having a cocktail and try a menu item next time. read more

Honestly this was one of the best egg sandwiches I have had on the island. Eggs were perfectly fluffy, ham was plentiful with a charred flavor and the cheese melted perfectly on the bun. WOW! (Not to be confused with Roto Grocery that's around the corner on Main st) What a gorgeous space for an "all day" cafe. Come for breakfast in the well thought out layout, and then come back in the evening for a wine/cocktail. Egg Sandwich was amazing. Staff is awesome. 12:30pm on a Friday and they have a guitar player outside where there are plenty of tables to enjoy Al Fresco. The food here is absolutely amazing. It's based strictly on food this would be a five star review because I have lived everything I have ever ordered here. Where Roto struggles in the ambiance and staff. The place can get pretty busy during the day and it is small. You constantly feel like you are always in the way of someone (either the staff or other customers). Especially when there are no seats left and are for forced to do takeout there is no place that is intuitive to stand. This place has people frequently there working on laptops taking up tables meant for larger groups, so tables will fill up fast The counter staff could be friendlier for sure. There is a blonde girl who had rang me up a few times - she barely greets you, seems annoyed if there are questions, does not explain how you will get your food, and almost slams the food in front of you when she gives it to you, whether staying or going. When staying, you have people standing on top of you waiting for food. If the layout of the place could be slightly rearranged to allow space for people waiting for take out and if the front of house staff could be more inviting, this would absolutely be a 5 star as the food is OUTSTANDINGnand fresh. read more

Was really excited to check out a new place! I will say service was really fast and the outdoor seating was nice. We ordered an earl gray matcha and a vanilla pistachio latte. The earl gray matcha came out without any matcha, so it just looked like iced black earl grey tea. still was good though? either the name is misleading or the order got messed up, but it was pretty chaotic inside to ask for it to be redone. the vanilla pistachio latte was alright, it's made with pistachio milk which i was excited for! but the coffee itself tasted pretty burnt or acidic. i would possibly be down to try something else, maybe on a slower day, because the baked goods looked yummy! read more

My daughter experienced a severe anaphylactic reaction after eating a salad here that staff confirmed was nut-free. She clearly communicated her allergy before ordering. Within minutes of eating the salad her throat started closing and she experienced a reaction. She had to leave and go straight to urgent care. Anaphylaxis is life-threatening. When she contacted the restaurant, the manager denied there were nuts and suggested she may have a different allergy. Whats even more disturbing is she also implied she should not be eating at restaurants, due to her allergy, and blamed her for not noting it on the reservation. She requested they cover her urgent care bill. They refused. If you have a food allergy and concerned about cross contamination not being taken seriously, please proceed with caution. read more

Please do not go to this restaurant as they don't take cross contamination seriously or care about people with allergies. On Valentine's Day, I experienced a severe anaphylactic reaction after eating here. I informed my server in advance of my allergy and was assured that the dish I was served was free from my allergen. After just one bite, my throat began closing almost immediately. I spent the rest of the evening in urgent care. To be clear, I have had this allergy my entire life. I regularly see an allergist. I am well educated about my condition and I love dining out. Prior to this, I have never experienced a cross contamination issue at a restaurant. Although I only had the first courses and a cocktail and was not charged for the meal, the way the situation was handled afterward by the manager I spoke with was incredibly disappointing and upsetting. The following day, I called and spoke with someone who was kind and understanding. They took my number and told me a manager would be calling me that day. I never received a call back. I called multiple times throughout the week and struggled to get a response until I was able to get ahold of the manager 5 days after. The response can be summed up to the following: - They couldn't get ahold of me because they didn't have my number. This is untrue. I left my number when I called to make the reservation and the next day after the incident. - My reaction caused the restaurant and the chef distress. How do you think I felt experienced a life threatening reaction and my valentines dinner was ruined? Additionally, there is a mental distress of eating something that you are told does not have your allergen but you start to experience a reaction. - There are people that work at this restaurant that have anaphylaxis that would never eat a restaurant where cross contamination could be an issue. It was unclear if they meant this restaurant or any restaurant. - Asked if I had another anaphylactic allergy. - I asked if they would be willing cover some of my medical costs and the response immediately was "absolutely not". - That I was careless to not include note my allergy when the reservation was made. - That they can't control cross contamination. Prior to this incident, I truly loved Roto and had dined here many times. I even live in the building, which makes this especially disappointing. It saddens me that I no longer feel safe dining here and will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. I hope the restaurant takes this experience seriously. This includes reevaluating how allergy protocols are handled and response to the customer after the situation. Nothing in the response to this situation made me feel safe coming here again or welcomed as a customer. read more
