My sons and I stopped in for an early diner after hiking through York River State Park. We were immediately impressed with the decor and friendly service as we entered. The Blue Crab offers several great draft beer choices and their menu offers a variety of stellar options. We split their pickle chips and crab cake sandwich and my picky eater chose the grilled cheese. The food came out fast and tasted great. The batter on the pickle chips (spears) wouldn't stick but it didn't stop us from eating it. This is definitely worth a try if you're in the area!

We did an assortment of apps. The hush puppies were very heavy and didn't have true deep fried taste. For local oysters, the fried oysters aren't bad, but if you consider yourself an oyster connoisseur you probably won't write home about these. The crab dip was really good, however the pitas were inconsistently cooked so some were soft and others were overly oily/ crispy. The calamari was very good. Our server was very accommodating and very sweet.

We ended up at the Salty Siren for two reasons, one, it was recommended by one of the guides at the Henricus Historical Park as being near the Farrar's Island historical marker (ancestors) and it was on the river. The view was gorgeous. We were promptly seated at an outdoor table overlooking the water. Our server, Jodi H., greeted us with a smile and offered to get our drinks and our calamari appetizer. It was excellent. Light, crispy, fresh with a few fried jalapeños for zing. The dip served with them was really good. I ordered fried oysters, which came with authentic hush puppies (which for this southerner means no sugar!) and I ordered the vegetable of the day (steamed broccoli) to sort of make up for the "fried". My husband ordered the grilled salmon. His salad was huge and the vegetables were so fresh that I filched some of his cucumbers. His salmon was amazing. It was perfectly cooked and it was so moist and tender. We will try to return if we are ever travelling this way again. Try The Salty Siren. Even if you don't go looking for the mile maker afterwards.

In most restaurants the servers don't even look at customers they are not working with. Our server, Darien E, was very smiling, kind and helpful. She was friendly, attentive, and the food came out pretty quick and nice and hot. They brought out some little hush puppies when we sat down, which was a nice little extra. I started with the calamari, and it was really good. Nice and crispy, good-sized portion, and came with a little lemon. For dinner I got the Williamsburg-style shrimp and grits. It had jumbo shrimp with a tasso ham gravy over creamy cheddar stone-ground grits, with a garlic crostini. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and had a lot of flavor. The grits were really good too. The whole dish was flavorful without being spicy or too hot. Overall, I really enjoyed the place. Good food, good service, nice atmosphere. Definitely two thumbs up and I'd definitely come back next time I'm in Williamsburg.

The service was friendly and very informative, which was nice as we made decisions. The ambience was also excellent; we sat outside, but would've been happy to sit inside in the lively dining room. The standout dish of the meal was the baked Chincoteague clams. These were flavored with Thai green curry and were excellent bites. The smoked pork taco was also very much a stand out, the smoked flavors contrasted well with the freshness and it relief belt as if this taco provided bang for buck. The other dishes were well executed. A crab gazpacho with grape and other aromatic flavors as the base was well done but there was not much crab and so did not feel as if it was a particularly worthwhile dish to get. The grape flavor was also somewhat too prominent for my liking, but the dish was refreshing and light as promised. The brussels sprouts were solid but not particularly memorable. The oyster taco was slightly overburdened by slaw and proved somewhat more tangy than what was called. I would definitely come back for the clams and the smoked pork taco and would be interested to taste the raw preparations as well as the fried chicken taco next time.
