This trail is ... beyond beautiful! I'm not experienced and of course I got lost a little bit! I went the opposite direction following a trail path on an app. It's easy but I am afraid of heights and as the trail got narrow and narrow toward the tops I panicked and went back. There's plenty of shade, but restrooms on the trail. It dog friendly so my pup enjoyed her time! I suggest bringing a little backpack with water, and a trail snack since the trail can get long if you want to enjoy the day in nature! I would definitely come back and conquer my fear with a partner just in case something happens! Either way it goes, if you're a beginner or experienced, TRY IT OUT! Then after you could go to the beach, grab yourself a refreshing smoothie and enjoy your time!

View of Temescal park from parking on the street, saved $7.

This is easily the best hike I've been on in Los Angeles. We started at the temescal gateway park entrance and opted to park on the street to avoid parking lot fees. We entered the park and passed some small buildings where people gathered around picnic tables. We stuck to the dirt path on the right side and continue until we came to several signs which eventually led us to the Rivas canyon trail. The hike from Temescal to Will Rogers is considerably easier than returning back in the other direction. I was very very very impressed by the view of LA, the perfect amount of shade, moderate and consistent declines (which turned into inclines on our way back) and beautiful elements similar to Muir Woods and Yosemite such as: large fallen trees, numerous beautiful flowers, a random bunch of cacti, bees hives safely out of harms way (I could literally feel the vibration of their wings, it felt like listening to natures song) and the constantly beautiful trail with it's many hues of red, brown, and green. I was shocked to see only one person accessing this trail (even though it was mid day and mid week) and think this must be an unknown gem to hikers. My favorite parts were the tunneling of plants that casted shade and foreshadowed further riches around each bend. The rich colors of the walk kept me awake and I felt like I was getting a good workout as well. The view towards the beginning of the trail is a nice start before descending into a fresh batch of Mother Nature. By the end of the hike, we were both tired and thirsty. This hike is probably the 10th one I've been on in Los Angeles and by far the best one I've seen. I'll be dragging more people on this trail. There is no loop and we hiked about 4.5 miles total in 2 hours. We didn't stop much but we took our time admiring the views and taking pictures.

The sounds of redevelopment are echoed throughout the mountains as well as the views of the city reminds you of the fires. On the positive side there is new plants and flowers blooming along the trails, a sign of new beginnings. This hike is classified as difficult. The hike is all uphill as you climb the mountain over 1800feet to reach the benches with a beautiful view on a clear day. Note early mornings in the summer you'll most likely experience clouds and potentially fog. On hot summer day this may be a welcome relief as the trail is no longer shaded after the fires. The hike to the benches and back to the trailhead is approximately 7.5 miles. We started our hike as 7am and there were only a few people on the trail, but by time we returned st 9ish a lot of people were starting. At the trailhead there is street parking. There are two parking lots as well but bring occupied by workers' trailers. Enjoy your hike! Happy trails!

I went on the Sunrise Trail at Temescal Gateway Park, which I highly recommend. You don't have to be a pro to do the advanced trail; you just have to be able to walk up and down slopes which really aren't that steep (at least not on this particular trail). It's an unforgettable experience for people of all ages, as long as you can walk, so bring the kids or a friend! I don't know about you, but I'm coming back for more Hikely experiences because it was just "Wow!" the whole time.

Give that these buildings draw people who like to party and graffiti, some of the structures have been destroyed. As you can see from the pictures there are still some structures that draw people in. Beyond these buildings there are some gorgeous views on the four mile loop. The loop consist of views of the mountains and a stream that is sometimes dry. Note the trail has a lot of steps: and they are short and narrow. The area not only draws hikers but a lot of mountain bikers. Hikers be careful on the trails as many bikers were not using bells. The hike is fine and a decent workout, but obviously the attraction itself is the history of the property. This 3.8 mile loop trail takes you down into the ruins of Murphy Ranch - a small parcel of land with an almost legendary history. This hike takes you from a popular fire road hike in view of the Pacific Ocean and peaks of the Santa Monica Mountains down long and winding sets of staircases to land that has been the home of Nazi sympathizers, an unusually uptight artists' colony, and the Boy Scouts. This hike can be easy to moderate, depending on the season and your level of adventure.
