That'll get your heart racing. We planned a trip to Hawaii 9 months ago and booked Sunrise Shuttle four months out. A shuttle is expensive but we wanted vacation to start right when we left the house. Two families and three car seats. Car seats, you know, those crucial safety devices required by law? We were glad to pay for someone to take away the stress of getting to the airport. To summarize so far: we booked and paid for three cars seats. We called four days ahead specifically to confirm that we needed three car seats. Apparently, Sunrise Shuttle operates under a different legal system, where car seats are optional and customers are expected to improvise. When the driver showed up I asked to check that the car seats were installed correctly. He looked perplexed. I saw an empty van (no carseats) and asked where they were. He first insisted we never ordered them. Then he checked his phone and I saw his shoulders slump. He admitted he forgot. His brilliant solution? He could go get them and be back in an hour? No, that won't work because we would miss our flight. So then he suggests we should just use our own car seats. Sure, buddy, great idea. And how would we get them back? He promised Sunrise Shuttle would hand-deliver our car seats a week later when we get home. Hard pass. Faced with either missing our flight or trusting this operation with our children's safety, we had to scramble. We loaded up and drove ourselves. So instead of a smooth and relaxing trip to the airport, we started our vacation with a stress test. Oh, and this wasn't our first run-in with Sunrise Shuttle's commitment to chaos. A year and a half ago, they actually did bring car seats--but the driver didn't know how to install them. Oh, they need to be attached to the vehicle? Who knew? That should have been our warning sign, but we foolishly gave them another chance. Never again. Save yourself the hassle and go with literally any other company. The real gem was Randy himself. Coming back to Sac the train kept changing its arrival time. I had to continually text Randy that the train would not arrive at midnight as scheduled. Randy told me that he would wait up and make sure we were picked up and taken to the Kimpton, NO worries. The thing is, we couldn't schedule an Uber for pickup/drop because it was a low fare from Amtrak station to Kimpton and no Uber would take us. Randy didn't care. He cared about us. He was worth the large fare we gave him and will use his service every time we are in that area. AND, we let everyone know. He is not only a professional, he is a kind man. When I left Sac on a train an hour before I arrived in Martinez I SHOULD have arranged my taxi then but thought one hour was too ahead of time and started looking a half hour before arrival. I had called taxi companies at least 2 hours just to get prices. I saw Friendly taxi on google the 1/2 hour before but when I searched for it afterwards, it came up with the one in Davis which told me to call the one in Oakland and I got nowhere. Looking at it now on Google it shows correct phone number. The ones that said that they would charge me $20, one was all booked up by them and then the other one which was supposed to be Yellow Cab was weird and had a photo of someone's house on google and the guy that answered gave someone else's number and then when it didn't work, he never answered his phone again. One cab company was mad at me when I didn't book when I first asked about prices and just hung up on me. WTF he would have gotten paid!! The other cab companies, were much higher or not friendly (that's a good name for this) and I was getting desperate. There was a VERY nice passenger at the train station and she was able to use HER smartphone to find number and contact them. He told me he would arrive in 10 min and he did. I think they, Friendly T. were a god send, literally. Dan was very friendly and honest. I left my bowler hat and he checked the back of the car and gave it back to me and told me there was $20 in hat which I didn't know. And there was a plastic bag containing a Boar's Head sandwich probably from another fare, which he gave to me, offset the cost of the taxi. LOL. He spoke good English as an American, which is helpful. I gave them 5 stars even though I wish they used a meter but his price was in the middle so knew it was about right and not sure if they take credit cards which I hope they do, as I would like to use CC to get points (I was thinking and paid in cash because he found some in my hat!)
