Ok so I am confused the menu said 12 dollars for a burger...I split a pitcher with someone (who by the way the forgot to order their food so it came out 40 mins behind me) and my bill was $30 without tip...and I got judged for leaving 18%. The burger was good but how did my bill become $30, I am confused how it got so expensive, it definitely wasn't worth it. Felt like it was very expensive for what you got especially with so many good restaurants close by. will probably not go back and will recommend everyone go for bowling but never for food. read more

First time goer/ reviewer here. Wanted to share my experience since it was a fantastic one. It would inadequate to pin this place as just a bowling alley due it being so much more; it has a high end bar feel, live stage, with bowling to give it a nice complimentary atmosphere. Service was fantastic. From the first moment, waiter was at our table consistently making sure we had drinks, if we were enjoying ourselves, and even bantering with us - thank you Dawett - sorry if I butchered the spelling. The cocktails were of the highest order and diverse making the night better as we can try new combos. Overall 5/5 with only complaint being the food was a little pricey for how little it provided. read more

Fun if you enjoy bowling in an adult space; there's no kids allowed after 5. All the balls are grey which makes finding your size tricky. Clean atmosphere and really attentive service. Touchscreens are awesome read more

Where do I even begin. Worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant. I'm not really a person who posts reviews but this place was so horrible I had to.The food was sooooo salty we couldn't even finish half of it. We (three of us) paid $120 combined for food but left the restaurant starving. And on my way out, one of the employee standing at the door literally snatched the drink out of my hand which I was almost done with, and said "you cannot take this drink outside" when he could have easily asked me to do so without being disrespectful. read more

What a great afternoon we had at River City Roll. We were well spaced out for Covid, the entire place was spotless and I hope Richmond turns out for this great concept to support them. I'm from out of town and my bowling alley is nothing like this one. Live entertainment on certain nights, a huge bar, bowling, event space and outdoor patio seating for you and your pet. I wanted to dine there after reading about the Chef and looking at the menus, but, unfortunately our plans didn't allow it. Our server was amazing! I'll make sure we give our family there a gift card so they can enjoy it until we come back. read more

I can't believe it has actually taken me this long to go to River City Roll. But alas, Sunday was my day. After a few margaritas, my husband and I thought it would be wise to go bowling. Lanes are discounted on Sundays after all to only $15. The front check in area was a little disorganized when we got there. They told us to just wait around, which we did, but they didn't specify how long we'd have to wait so we just kind of lingered with our beers. The setup there is cool, but like someone else said, a little overwhelming. There's a full bar. There's a pizza oven. Free skeeball. Probably many more things that I kissed because there was also a love band. We bowled for two hours and I had a blast. Between bowling for two hours, shoes and three beers, we spent over $100. But worth it in my opinion. What Im not a huge fan of is when you cash out, you end up having to tip on the price of the lane too. Which is ridiculous considering I got beers at the bar and never got water. But whatevs read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. To hold a big event during a global pandemic is selfish and money hungry. But to then fire people who didn't want to sign your waiver to work because they didn't want to risk exposure to the deadly virus is cold and disrespectful. Another horrible experience here. The ONLY reason we came again is because our friends begged us to play on a bowling league (which we paid a hefty fee to join) and we literally live in the apartment complex that shares a parking lot with them. The lanes are too compact- I wasn't able to take my normal strides when bowling without crossing the lane line AND all the men on the league were hitting their foot on the ball return when trying to throw because it's too narrow. We were told that happy hour specials on food and drinks were extended to league members all evening instead of ending at 9. But when we got our bill they had charged normal prices. We asked our bartender, who turned to his manager (standing at the bar drinking in flip flops) and said that multiple league members had told him they were overcharged. The manager just shrugged his shoulders and said "sorry". He knew that we were the ones impacted as he was standing right beside us but he never directly addressed us or took ownership for the incorrect information given. There's only one flatbread pizza that's decent. All other food is gross. It's so loud inside that you can't communicate. It's honestly such a shame that a fun concept, in an ideal location, with a fantastic patio is a complete waste because of poor management. read more

We visited tonight (on a Wednesday night). There were three bartenders and probably about 6-8 guests sitting at the bar. The customer service was completely poor. None of the THREE bartenders hardly acknowledged us. We told the bartender we needed a few minutes to decide on dinner and no one ever came back or asked how we were doing. My boyfriend sat there with an empty beer for 15 minutes before we finally decided to interrupt for our check. The two stars is for the concept and appearance, other than that, highly disappointed with the service. read more

Overpriced bowling alley with expensive sub par food. An entire pizza at this place is equivalent to the size of one normal slice of pizza. Only thing that saves it is the fact that compared to a normal bowling alley the bar is very nice. Service was pretty average but the bartenders were friendly and made good drinks. An overall underwhelming experience after being recommended this spot by colleagues. Not enough bang for your buck. read more

The atmosphere here is good and the food and drinks are good. We had a reservation here for 2 PM for two hours of bowling and when we got here we were told they were waiting for the party ahead of us to finish up. We didn't get walked over to our lane until 2:30 PM and we realized about an hour in that our countdown was 30 min short of the 2 hours we reserved. We said something to the girl we assumed was our new waitress (our waitress when we got seated just disappeared with no notice that her shift was ending or any sort of transition) and she said she would look into it for us. When she came back she told us that because of other reservations we couldn't have our full two hours but that we wouldn't be charged for the two hours of bowling. After that we didn't see her again until it was time to close out...30 of our now shortened 90 minute reservation, we had no way to order anything additional. I don't understand why we didn't get the same courtesy as other reservations and it was a negative experience that once we mentioned the time issue, we never were waited on again. Overall very disappointing experience. read more

Wow. For the July meeting of our Cookbook Club, we met in a private room at River City Roll and Chef Slemaker prepared an outstanding tasting menu for us. When asked which was our favorite course, we all had trouble landing on just one! Each item was prepared with care and was delectable. We sampled cucumber gazpacho, foie gras, slow-toasted pork belly, prickly pear sorbet, Mahi-Mahi and concluded with an outstanding creme brûlée. If you're looking for a new place for a small event with fabulous food, River City Roll should definitely be on your list! read more

Attended a private dinner party and cannot say enough good things about our experience. Shawn, our primary waiter, was excellent, and he was flanked by three or four other servers who ensured we were all served each course simultaneously. Chef Brad offered an exquisite tasting dinner, so good that we couldn't pick our favorite dish (although finishing with a vanilla creme brulee pushed lots of votes towards dessert). Beautiful presentations, wonderful mix of flavors, gourmet to the max. Who'd have thought we were in a bowling alley? Thank you Brad and Shawn! read more

I feel that giving a 1 star rating is being generous. My husband and I were asked to leave because we had our 11 month old son with us. It was 5pm on a Wednesday. We were told that it's 21 and over and that it was company policy. I would understand if we had a 5 year old with us, but he's a baby that does not walk and would be sitting in our laps. We were forced to leave and unable to join our friends. The management was not empathetic and went out of their way to make a scene that we had a child with us. As a mother, I should never have to feel uncomfortable that I have my child with me. I don't have to pay for a seat on an airplane for my child, but I'm not allowed to go to a bowling alley with my child. Management needs to reassess their policies. When my husband and I have a babysitter I guarantee you we will never use your establishment. You have lost us as customers and our friends. read more

Recommend RCR for your company/dept fun outing. Recently held ours there and everyone had a ball (pun intended). The food and service were great and the atmosphere is perfect for team bonding. The only strike was when it came to the final bill. It was significantly more than what was agreed upon verbally and in the contract. After some back and forth it was finally corrected and money was refunded. Read over the contract thoroughly and make sure all communication is via email. read more

I had a birthday party at River City Roll on a Saturday afternoon. It was a huge success. As one guest said, "This is not your mother's bowling alley food." The chicken tacos and various pizzas were delicious. The fruit platter looked like a work of art. We had four lanes for bowling that were right off the private room where lunch was set up. Everyone seemed to have a ball. I highly recommend River City Roll. read more

Great atmosphere. Bar staff is fantastic - mike and Tim - as well as the rest of the staff. Food is great. They have a huge indoor/outdoor bar. So, no matter what the weather is like, your good. This place was super cool, nice, clean, and the drinks were good and the pizza was very yummy. However, I could not BELIEVE how expensive it was. My friends and I played two games, each got about two beers, and I got a pizza to share. My bill (my share of the games, pizza, and two beers) was $58. My friend got three drinks, no food, and her portion of the bill was $74! Very confused on how the billing works, but all I know is I probably won't be back because of how pricey it was. I could go to Circuit Barcade down the street and play like a dozen games and have a few drinks for half the price. read more

We had a great time with a group of four on a Thursday night. There was an hour and a half wait when we arrived around 9pm. We played the free ski ball and shuffle board and got a drink while we waited. The live band was cool but felt out of place. Once our lane was ready our names were already entered into the screen and our shoes were waiting there for us. That was a nice touch. The systems are definitely more user friendly than your typical AMF. The food was tasty as well as the drinks. We had a pizza and truffle fries. A few things I didn't like were the bowling balls were all the same color! It took extra time to find your proper weight ball each turn (which sucks when you're paying by the hour) and compared to my usual AMF there was no fun music videos on big screens behind the lanes. All in all we had fun but probably won't come back due to the expense. We have just as much fun in industry night at AMF for a quarter of the price. read more

This could be a superb dining venue but is flawed by poor management. We made a reservation for a large group dinner with out of town business associates. This was intended to be a work/play event. When we arrived, the music -- NOISE, horrible TECHNO POP-- was so loud we could not talk; blaring. We asked the manager nicely and he told us, essentially, to lump it because a group had a DJ in that night. I am not talking about music playing that would be enjoyable but painfully loud, blaring noise -- synchopated techno pop; painful to the ears. We could not talk; we could not work; we could not go anywhere else at this late hour. If only someone had told us when the reservation was made, we could have gone elsewhere. The food and service were good; the ambiance is very cool. If ownership fires the manager and takes better control, this could be a fun place. Perhaps we will try again in 6 months or so when there is a new manager who knows how to treat paying customers--we were a big table, with a big corporate tab. read more
