We stopped in here the first day of our vacation for breakfast and came back every single day! They have great gluten free bread they can substitute on all of their sandwiches as well as a wide selection of fresh baked goods every day. Service was fast and friendly. Sweet staff make you feel so welcome and comfortable and asked me multiple questions about my order to make sure it was perfect. We came here because they make their own GF bread, and as an eater of GF things, I love when bakeries and cafes make their own GF bread! Sadly. Tragically. Painfully. I heard the cashier tell the person ahead of us that they were out of GF bread. I may have heard them say some was still frozen? (I know they sell it, so that makes sense) Alas. No GF breakfast sammy for me. They do, however, offer GF waffles. Are you a waffle person? I'm not so much of a waffle person. But I ordered the waffle and it was okay. My wife had a breakfast sandwich on a homemade English muffin. It looked divine. She was quite happy. As a consolation prize (well, mostly just because they looked bomb!) Found this place on YELP. You walk up and order. Everyone super friendly. We split a vegetarian egg sandwich with cheese, avocado, tomato, and sprouts on a toasted english muffin. It was delicious. For take-away, we split a turkey sandwich on a french roll. Came with pepper jack cheese (you have your choice of cheese), tomato, pickle, lettuce with tasted like italian dressing. Stopped by around 9 on a Saturday morning looking for a quick, filling, and tasty bite before a hike. My partner and I both ordered an egg sandwich. It took about 15-20 minutes to get to us despite our seeing 6 people in the kitchen and only one family waiting on food ahead of us which was quite perplexing. The Daizy sandwich had a lot of fresh ingredients, though nothing really came together to stand out as making this a great sandwich. The sourdough flavor in the English Muffin didn't really come through in sandwich form; you had to take some of the bread apart from the sandwich and eat is separately to appreciate its flavor. best sandwiches ever!! My boyfriend loved their Italian sandwich special on wheat bread - he devoured in seconds. I had the spicy tempeh with peanut butter on GF bread and it was to.die.for. The GF bread was some of the best I have had and the flavors on the sandwich jived. The perfect creamy/tangy combo. They had plenty of GF / Vegan options. They had a wide variety of kombucha options - the hopped kombucha we shared was outstanding. They had these on tap and in bottles to go. They had a great local variety of "to go" beverages - beers, wine and cider. Plenty of indoor seating and food came out relatively fast. Being only an hour away, we travel to Hood River frequently, especially for wine tastings. We have a couple of favorite places for lunch, but thought we'd try someplace new. We are very happy we did! We arrived about 1:30 in the afternoon, but all menu items were available. My wife and I split a bowl of clam chowder (delicious with a little bite), she had the hot pastrami sandwich snd I had the tuna melt. They were both excellent, not your everyday sandwiches. They were on grilled French bread that was fresh and tasty. We finished off lunch with cookies for the road, mine was molasses and hers was chocolate chip, also very good. This has been my go to place for a good tuna melt and garden salad. Today's experience has me thinking I won't be back. Table I wanted to seat at hadn't been cleaned off so did it myself. Sandwich good (except missing pickle slices it always comes with). Drink also good. But salad arrived without fork, without dressing and without sunflower seeds as listed on menu. If you're supposed to get your own silverware I tried but couldn't since there was nothing out. Asked for fork at counter and got one. Went back to table to realize no dressing. Went back to counter to request some, staff person bought a tiny container only 1/2 full that barely covered any of the salad. Was finally eating salad only to find rotted pieces of lettuce in it. Showed this to staff person at counter and they seemed unfazed by it. No offer to make it right in any way. The breakfast sandwiches here are Amazing!! I wish I lived closer to try more items on their menu. My husband and I stopped here on a road trip for some breakfast. I ordered the 'hot and bothered' and he chose the 'T-Rex'. First, the homemade English muffin is soft and flavorful. Melts in your mouth. The aioli along with the spicy ham on the hot and bothered was the perfect combo. Spicy/Heat but not overbearing. The T-Rex is like a classic McMuffin sandwich but 100% times better. We sat at the establishment to enjoy our coffee and breakfast. It has quite a few different seating options including a small bar top where they serve Kombucha and a few libations. Lots of natural light makes for a cheery space. I watched as other items came out of the kitchen. Everything looked fresh and fantastic. Paired with gourmet desserts, a rustic atmosphere, fair prices, and a fine pandemic protocol, I could find myself spending the day relaxing at River Daze Cafe instead of on the Columbia any time I decide on a trip to the Gorge. The tempeh didn't add much in terms of flavor but added some texture to the sandwich. The whole wheat bread was absolutely worth waiting 10 minutes for - fresh, fluffy and not as wheaty as one would be afraid of. It's perfect for this sandwich! This place rotted like I cannot believe; in travelling across the United States for four months from the Northwest to the Southeast, through many a state, this place was the worst by far of any other place I ate, drank, or stopped in. I went in for tea, upon a recommendation from someone in this most-miserable, grumpy as all get-out town. While I was there, I ordered food. This does not mean the food is to supersede the tea. I was given the food, but not the tea. When I mentioned to my waitress that I has also ordered tea, she told me she forgot. I had to get up from my spot and go over to the tea place, where when I said I had ordered some tea, the person who was not my waitress (My waitress was busy talking and having a good time with her 'work' -- if it can be called that -- mates.) gave me not tea but water and a tea bag. I told her I'd prefer it if the tea bag were put in first and the hot water second, so that the water could run over the tea bag and make a better tea. She 'obliged' (if you can call it that), rolled her eyes while pouring hot water over the tea bag, and glared at me ever-so-strongly as she simultaneously literally absolutely slammed the cup on the counter. I have never received such abysmal treatment anywhere in my life. I went back to my spot with my tea, most unhappily. I finished my tea-accompanying meal and felt sick to my stomach from the treatment .... This is about the worst place I have ever eaten or been in my entire life. (F.Y.I., I am not comparing this only to places in U.S.A.) The rest of the town is basically no better. In four months of travelling, this was the only town I truly could not stand and after this treatment at this place, I wanted to know if the rest of the town was as bad as it seemed so I spent the rest of the day going from store to store and cafe and restaurant just to see if it was all so terrible; most of it was but no place could compare to this, thankfully. Of course it did colour the rest of my day, as well -- how could it not? So for whom is this review being written? If you are 'lucky' enough to live in this miserable town, you can probably love this place or affix whatever emotion you normally have as you go about your life there. If you don't live in this town, and you like being treated well, I would most certainly recommend skipping it but then again, I am used to something better so it really depends on you. I think probably most people who come here are happy with it and that does not say anything good about the clientelle. The view might've been nice if the service -- again, if it could even come close to being called that -- were not so absolutely abysmal. Want a look out the window? Walk in, look out, walk out, done! Want to eat and encounter a nice person? Even in this most curmudgeonly town, there are better places .... I didn't expect this to be so good! Veggie sandwich on a French roll, added spicy tempeh, and swapped yellow mustard for Dijon. The flavors came together beautifully and all the ingredients seemed fresh. I used to come here relatively frequently when I would visit the area for hiking, and this was a regular stop. Its been a couple years but my brother and I came here while spending a few days in hood river. I raved about the place and was sadly let down a bit. I got the hot and bothered as always which was good. My brother doesnt eat meat and there was only one vegetarian sandwich and the only vegetarian meat was tempeh (i thought in the past they had veggie sausage but I could be completely wrong). Anyway there was only one other table of two, and they ordered before we even showed up, yet we still had to wait almost 20 minutes. We were not in any hurry so it wasnt a problem, but had we been, it would have been a really long time to wait for an english muffin sandwich.
