I had an absolutely awful experience caused by River Front Cafe when I tried to join some friends to enjoy watching the 2021 Holiday Lighted Boat Parade in Petaluma on Dec 12, 2021. We had reserved a table at River Front Cafe for a party of five people. I arrived to find my party already at the table outside of the restaurant and they had just placed their food order and were waiting for their food to be delivered to the table. I got in the line of approximately 30 people to order my food at 5:35 PM. One hour and ten minutes later, at 6:45 PM, I finally reached the front of the line to place my order! I ordered a hot pastrami sandwich and upgraded the included fries to onion rings. I also ordered a bottle of wine which they opened for me and gave me a wine glass and the number tag to return to my table so that they could find and deliver my food when it was ready. Upon returning to my table, I found that my group of friends had abandoned the table, presumably due to the multitude of people swarming around the table to watch the parade. I could not locate my friends anywhere, so I returned into the restaurant and requested my food to go. I never did get to see any of boats in the parade! Upon finally receiving my food, I went home to eat it. They had placed the onion rings at the bottom of the container and laid the sandwich directly on top of the onion rings with nothing separating the two items. The onion rings were greasy, soggy, and cold. The sandwich was ice cold. They did not include the dipping sauce that was supposed to be included with the order. At least they didn't screw up the wine. So that was $52.00, 3-hours of my time, and at least a gallon of gas wasted. They said that their excuse for the horribly long wait time to place our orders was because they only had one cash register that took credit cards. The other cash register could only accept cash-only orders, but everyone wanted to pay by a credit card. Well, they used this same lame excuse back on Sept 17, 2021 when I attended a Foxes in the Henhouse concert there. They should have had ample time to repair or replace the defective cash register by now. This is a family-owned business. The family members were all nice and polite, but they sure don't know how to run a restaurant when they have a large crowd wanting to be served. read more

We were in town for a sports tournament and we had just an hour to eat so we chose this place because we could order at the counter and then go seat ourselves (indoors or outside next to the river under a tent that provided shade.). The food was tasty and they had a kids menu which is always helpful. The staff was friendly and very attentive. I would recommend and return. read more

I may have reviewed them before, but I have GOT to review them again. We've been coming here for at least three years now, and it is still our favorite restaurant. The staff are friendly and attentive, and they make dining a pleasure. Oh, but the food. The fooooooooood. Mmmm. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. (And no, that's not just a euphemism; I'm literally salivating right now.) The food is not just good; it is exceptional. Every item we order is better than the last. Their French Toast is so good, we can't order it anywhere else now. All other French Toasts fail to live up to the deliciousness and the truly heavenly dish they have at the River Front Cafe. I mean, yes, taste is subjective, and not everyone likes the same flavors (what a boring world if we all did, right?). But both my fiance and I love, love, love their food. Her taste buds come from the other side of the planet, and mine come from two states north of California, and both our taste buds dance for joy from the River Front Cafe's food. My husband and I had lunch there last Saturday. First hint, the restaurant had few customers - We really should have taken note of this but we were both starving and thought a salad and some fired calamari would hit the spot. The fried calamari consisted of about 5 burned tentacles and some large rings - they were very salty and tasted like they were right out of a box and the dipping sauce was a tasteless red something. I couldn't tell what it was supposed to be. The salad was also salty, and the salad dressing tasted like it was out of can or bottle. I asked for the blue cheese dressing thinking it might be better, but it had the same bottled taste. My husband asked one of the boys for water and was directed to go inside and get it himself. You have to pay before you get your food and because we always try to take care of wait staff, my left a tip. It cost us $60.00 for two horrible salads and disgusting calamari. Came with my family and we all really liked our lunch. The portions are big and we all needed boxes to take half home. I had the beef shawarma , delicious, husband had Greek omelette, packed with feta , spinach and olives, wonderful and son had cheeseburger , fat and juicy. Fries were good , not greasy. First thing I have to say is the manager Max is excellent. He is passionate about his job, clients and makes sure his customers are well taken care of. We ordered far more than we could eat. The portions are more than generous, deliciousness, and their Mediterranean dishes are home made. Next we are going to try their burgers because the table next to us had them and they also looked delicious and fresh. The owner said they only serve local beef which is even better. Second time eating there in the past 6 months. I am from out of the area and visiting family. This is a must go place to eat at. Food is great, the seating indoor and outdoor is great but it's the people there that make it inviting. One lady there in particular (might be the owner) very friendly and always concerned that the people waiting in line are ok and that they will be right with us. It's refreshing to have a new restaurant with a traditional food menu, and at reasonable prices, especially considering the location. And with names we can all pronounce with fresh ingredients with which we're all familiar! No foo foo who knows what it is here, just deliciousness with good variety. We've been here four times since they opened, twice for breakfast and twice for dinner. Had a great burger there last night and my wife had a fantastic salad. Prices are very reasonable for our area and we find it a great place to go when we just want to keep it casual. The only thing I'm not crazy about is that you order at the register and they bring the food to you. Ordered the river front Benedict, and I really enjoyed it. Egg yolk was perfect, and runny. Instead of house potatoes I got hash browns, because I generally like them more than house potatoes. By the time I made it to the second crab cake, it was just as warm and the yolk was still runny. I wouldn't change a single thing about this item. Maybe next time I'll try the house potatoes, as I found out they are freshly prepared and not from a processed bag. read more

Delicious! It's hard to find a breakfast place that cooks up good food and serves good coffee. Our view of the Petaluma River turning basin was front row. We enjoyed the smoked salmon benedictions, served with a generous pile of home fried potatoes. I substituted fresh fruit and was pleased with how fresh the strawberries and melon were. And the coffee... no need to stop at my favorite coffee house first. The French roast was fresh without any trace of bitterness that emerges at some places.
