    Thai Basil with pork

It is admittedly a bit of a drive to get to Chan Chao for me, but it's been on my list to try out for a while, especially given the high reviews and praise. I'm glad I made the trip. This is easily the best Thai food in Petaluma! I had the Pad Krapow with ground pork and ordered it extra spicy. The menu states the spice levels are Thai spice levels, but I disagree. The extra spicy is about a medium level spice for a Thai person and most people can easily handle it! The Krapow was delicious - one of the best I've had in a long time! The pork was tender and juicy, and the sauce was perfectly balanced between sweet, savory, and herbaceous, though I would have personally preferred more basil, and of course more chopped red chilies! I didn't see it at the time, but you can also get a fried egg on top, which is absolutely essential for Krapow! I'll definitely try that next time! The service was also incredibly friendly! I can't wait to return to try more dishes.

Best Thai restaurant in Petaluma! Service is great and staff is super friendly and accommodating. Chan Chao never disappoints! Pretty authentic too. I love their chicken satay with peanut sauce. Their peanut sauce is so good, very creamy. All of their curries are delicious, especially the green and pumpkin curry. Has the right amount of spice and coconut milk in it. They don't skimp on the meat or veggies in there. I recently tried their khao soi, and the flavor is so authentic especially with the crispy noodle and tender chicken. All of their noodles are flavorful too especially the pad see ew.

Delish. Do nice to see this old building looking so lovely My daughter really enjoyed her birthday dinner here. She had yellow curry chicken and declared it the best ever! Made two full meals for her. Hubby n I are the vegetarians and we also loved our meals. Pan fried noodle w veg the hubbs got eas nice. Could use a few more veggies. I went to appetizer land. Salad rolls which I didn't notice had shrimp in allergic to, and they didn't mind switching them right out. Crisp egg rolls and and fried tofu (which wAs very different than the tofu in my husbands noodle dish bravo on that!) I shared were nicely done. And the sauces . . . because let's be honest sauces are everything, were very nice and not the usual pedestrian stuff. They care about food here. And honored our beloved vegetables. The service was quiet and pleasant. Every table here looks like it's a best table.

The flavors are a cut above. The best Thai in Petaluma. We loved the spicy eggplant and the larb. The "mild" was definitely spicy enough. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable-- you are dining in an old house, but in a good way. Because there are a couple different rooms, it took a while for the waitstaff to wander over and see us. But we were good with a laid-back meal.

Everything was very delicious! Cute dining place. Lots of patron. Food was served fast and everything we ordered was superb! Highly recommend this place when you're in the area.

This Thai restaurant is wonderful. I read reviews here and decided I had to give a try. Oh my goodness. I only ordered a small Tom Yum soup and was very happy with my choice. I also ordered a Tom Kha to go for tomorrow. Cute place inside an old Victorian house. Dining rooms split up but it works nicely. The menu is limited but clearly has all the most popular dishes. Next time I want to try their Pad Thai. I'm pretty picky about my Pad Thai but wanted soup tonight. The soup is so flavorful. Loaded with chicken, onions and mushrooms. I'd have been happy with less than half the chicken. But very happy regardless. The disclaimer on the menu caused me to be mindful of the level of heat. lol So I ordered mild. Then I added chili oil. Haha. I'm a lightweight but could have easily ordered mild on the soup. The staff is very kind, friendly and engaging if you like not if you prefer not. Can hardly wait until next time.

Came here after a long afternoon of paintballing and it was such a memorable experience! Good: - Super cute ambiance - there's a stuffed bear on the wall and heart origami, how much better could it get? - The staff are incredibly nice - The khao soi was really good, good balance of sweet and savory, and the special curry with sticky rice blew my mind. Felt healthy too - Good value for your money! Good portion sizes Bad: - Food does take a little bit to come out (15 min or so) but it's not a super bad wait Overall this was a super great experience and would come again.

Pra Ram and the most delightful note.

Best Thai spot in town (coming from someone who grew up in a city with endless authentic Thai restaurants-yay diversity!) Can't go wrong ordering the Pra Ram and the curry here. They also know how to win customers over with their cute doodles. My daughter loves ordering from here for this reason.

Ask the Community - Chan Chao Thai Restaurant

Do they serve wine or beer?

I know that my wife ordered coffee and I ordered Thai iced tea and there was no alcohol listed on the Beverage list. But I didn’t ask if they also served beer/wine. I’m sorry not to have the complete answer.

Located on Lakeville Highway, just east of Hwy 101, it would make a good place to stop for a nice lunch or dinner. I was there on a warm Saturday, at around 11:30 am. The dining room has a contemporary asian decor. The AC kept the air cool and comfortable. There's several 2,4, and 6 seat tables. Just before lunchtime, the place was 1/3 full with customers. I was seated along the wall. I was offered a menu, and choice of hot tea or ice water. I asked for chopsticks, because the place setting had a fork. I ordered the Mongolian Beef lunch plate w/ fried rice. Also, I asked for an order of (Lightly Breaded) Fried Prawns. Service was excellent. My waiter was very attentive, and served my food as soon as it was ready. He told me if there were any delays. I didn't have to ask for anything. The Fried Prawns were large and plump. They were served with various sauces to choose from. The Mongolian Beef lunch plate had a nice presentation. The portion size was fair. The fried rice was moist, and blended well with the Mongolian Beef. The Mongolian Beef was spicy and tasted just right. Hot 'n Sour soup came with the lunch plate. Lily Kai's recipe for hot 'n sour soup is a little different than what you might get in most other chinese restaurants. They make it with alot of mushrooms. The familiar flavor was there, but it lacked several expected ingredients. Well, as long as it tasted good, I'm okay with it. ----------------------------------------------- So I had a great first time experience here. The plaza has a free shared parking lot. There's a Starbucks Coffee shop in the same plaza. Also, this place is down the street from the Kaiser Medical Offices. Also, they have clean and large restrooms. I totally was that weird kid who ate strange food growing up. I would rather eat lobster or…read moreartichokes than chicken or green beans, and given the choice I'd gladly eat my body weight in dim sum over basically any other food. That hasn't changed at all for me as an adult! In Sonoma county there was really just one place with dim sum, and lots of people wanted more options. I tried other restaurants with their dim sum adjacent menus, but they were pretty mediocre and mostly focused on fried pot stickers or the occasional steamed siu mai. Once I heard fantasy was starting a true dim sum menu, I knew we had to try it. The day we arrived I was solidly in my third trimester of pregnancy and getting around was a chore, but that wasn't going to keep me from dim sum. We were the only guests the whole time on the day we went there, which was weird to me given how good the food ended up being! Service was great, super friendly and just lovely folks. The restaurant was clean and we'll organized, and the menu was a good mix of traditional favorites and some trendy BAO for the insta. We ordered a little of everything , which to me is why dim sum is so fun. Food came out super fast, and we tucked right in. Surprisingly to me, my favorite dish is one hubs picked on a whim, the spicy won tons. The flavors and textures were on point, and even with pregnancy heartburn, the spice on these things was well worth it. Super delicious. I felt the pandan and black sesame bao were overly trendy for my taste, but I'm sure those who are new to dim sum could see these options as easy introduction into the food. Really good experience here with very tasty food, nice people and quality dishes. I'm still getting over the idea of expensive dim sum because of growing up eating it in SF with low costs in a humble setting, but for this overall experience I felt the prices were fine. I will definitely be back, and eager to try the rest of the items on their menu.

As a parent of teenage boys who can put away serious amounts of food, I'm not sure whether to thank GoHan or blame them... but here we are. That said, the quality makes it completely worth it. The fish is incredibly fresh, and the rolls are outstanding. Our go-to favorites have been the 'My Hot Valentine' and 'Rainbow Roll' both are consistently excellent and seem to disappear from the table in about 30 seconds. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and they've made it easy (and fun) for our whole family--even the newer sushi eaters--to find things they love. It's become one of those places where everyone is happy, which is no small feat. If you're in Petaluma and want consistently great sushi in a relaxed, family-friendly setting, this place absolutely delivers.
