I know absolutely nothing about Moline, so we chose this restaurant only because of this incredibly convenient location, right across the street from our hotel downtown. Walking in, we were excited to see so many people, which is usually a good sign of things to come, but in hindsight, it might have just been the only spot open in the area. As we entered, the manager immediately barked at us that they were short staffed with servers for the evening, which I know can be an incredibly stressful position to be in. But to be honest, the service was fine! The atmosphere was fine, and I was told the "famous" margaritas were just OK too. But the food? It could have been a lot better. Don't get me wrong, everything was homemade, portions were big, and things looked fresh under the garishly bright lights. But the flavors were really hit or miss, with the best example being the appetizer sampler. The chicken egg rolls, served with other traditional "American" deep fried standards like mozzarella sticks were straight from a Chinese take-out restaurant, with chunks of overcooked dry chicken inside. Not technically terrible, but really an odd flavor choice. What WAS bad, and also really disappointing as I am generally a huge fan, were the fried pickles. The batter was pillowy soft and fluffy, but the pickles were straight up awful tasting. Funky in a chemical way, and a real palette ruiner. The restaurant was incredibly loud, but overall felt like a pretty well oiled machine. The food was really lacking an attention to detail, so next time we are in town, we'll do a little more research on our options. read more

Overall bad experience. Went down there before a storm game. Two adults and two kids who were very hungry. We saw the place was busy and wanted something Hearty to start. So we wanted to order the appetizer combo platter. We were informed that we could not order that on an event night. I'm sorry but that's something that should either be on the menu or an item that you shouldn't be serving if you can't handle it on a busy night. So we just opted for the mozzarella sticks. It took almost 25 minutes to get the mozzarella sticks which were nothing special. Our food then came out reasonably timed thereafter. But I wouldn't say there was anything special about the food itself. The sides of fries we were given were small and made up of all the bottom bits and small pieces. Each side could have easily fit in a mcdonalds smal fry container. We got one Burger, one kids meal, two additional items off of the appetizer menu. Which amounted to six dumplings and an order of boneless wings with a side of fries. The boneless wings and the kids tenders that came out were clearly cooked in old grease as they were brownish gray and had that overly hard outer shell and old grease taste that comes along with it. We ate because we were already running behind for the game. For one Burger one kids meal, dumplings boneless wings and fries and some mozzarella sticks. With tip was about $92 tipped appropriately because the server has no control over the kitchen and did her job. Which even in today's economy is a bit insane. Don't get me wrong I don't mind shelling out a little money for a good meal but this was mediocre at best. Won't be coming back for the next Storm or Steamwheelers game. Staff was friendly and accommodating regarding food allergies. I had a mix up on my last order due to a miscommunication...they fixed it right away no problem. The River House Bar and Grill is located along River drive in the old Mill Building next door and across the street from John Deere Provilion an the Hotel. The restaurant and bar is clean, spacious, with a whimsical, historic, motif. The service though slightly slow and not really supportive of helping a server with multiple settled large parties in their section in a slow restaurant otherwise was fairly decent. The food: Appetizers, were actually pretty good all around. Our large party had several trays of the Sampler Slaters brought out and a tray of the Coconut Shrimp. The everything was delicious from the fried pickles, onion rings, chicken tenders, & mozzarella sticks was good. One exception was I was the only person in the party of 22 people to get an under cooked chicken tinder out of 3 Sampler Appetizer trays. The waitress offered to bring me another one, and I am still waiting for it. The food now that was all around well received by everyone. No complaints by anyone, except me who ordered the Crab Cakes. They were ok. But when you describe them as thick in the menu, they best meet a certain standard. I am from the south and pretty much grew up on seafood. A minimum thickness for any seafood cake period is a half inch. Other wise it dries out the seafood or becomes saturated with your cooking liquid and/or its flavor and you don't taste the seafood and its texture becomes rubbery. These didn't have much of anything flavor, text, and the cook and whoever wrote the menu need to have their eyes checked because 1/4" is not thick! That is like saying a McDonald's hamburger is one of their actual size able hamburgers. I was highly disappointed in them. They have ribs and those I would recommend. Little high but great bang for the buck! Considering 3 of us ate on a full slab and still took home some. read more

When to River House on a Tuesday night not expecting it to be packed, but to our surprise it was which wasn't a problem. We get seated and then 10-15 minutes goes by and finally someone comes over and takes our drink order. We get our drinks and order an appetizer of the fried pickles and our entrees. We wait and wait probably around another 20-25 minutes for our appetizer!!! The fried pickles finally arrive at our table and all is well. To our surprise they were actually very good which got out hopes up a bit after the very long wait. We wait around 5-10 minutes and finally our entrees arrive at the table. I got the lettuce wraps and my fiancés got the adult Mac n cheese. The lettuce wraps were not like I was expecting at all. It was a pile of grilled chicken mixed with I assume canned water chest nuts, mandarin oranges, almonds, and it also had purple cabbage, carrots, and an absolutely massive pile of these chow mein noodles that were fried or something. All of this was served on lettuce leaves which was another mistake because that just made the lettuce soggy and warm ): My fiancé got the adult Mac n cheese which was also not very good because it was bland and needed salt which there was none on the table. The presentation of the dishes was good, but the flavor and taste were not. Also the service wasn't good either which really killed the experience. We visited 3/15/25, and were very disappointed. I had been excited to go, since I had tried previously, and the wait was just too long. We were waiting just inside the door for a table, and a couple was walking out, they warned us not to order the beef stroganoff. They said they look one bite and couldn't take another, it was terrible. Hearing that, we should have left. To start, they never brought out our appetizer, chips and queso. They forgot one friend's fries, a side salad was never delivered, and her steamed vegetables were cold. My turkey breast wrap was cold cut meat, I guess I was thinking more like pieces of turkey like you would get in a chicken wrap. It does not state on the menu that the turkey is lunch meat. I ordered the garlic fries, but just got plain old fries. I ordered a burger and was surprised when they asked how I liked it done. I asked for medium. The burger came and it was dry, too dry even if I asked for well done. The tomatoes were white. Maybe the least ripe tomatoes I've ever seen served at a restaurant. I ordered a beer before our food arrived. The beer didn't come until I was done with my burger. Asked for the check and it took another 15 minutes. It wasn't that busy. The food here is always fantastic. However, I came with a group of 10 senior citizens who were excited to venture out and we had other things to do. The service took absolutely forever! We arrived at 11:30 and did not leave the establishment until 1:40. It took forever to get our drinks, forever to order, forever to get our food and even longer to get our checks. When we asked another waitress about our checks, she snapped at us saying your waitress will get to it when she gets to it. I'm not sure if they're understaffed. They were busy but our table was definitely ignored. The group I was with will never go back. Plus I'm sure they will tell all their families and they will not go there either. read more
