I've dined here many times, and the authentic Chinese cuisine is the best in the Edgewater area. This evening, I enjoyed my seasonal favorite--soft-shell crab prepared salt-and-pepper style--and it was outstanding! I'll definitely be back before the season ends. The seafood pan-fried noodles never disappoint, and I also ordered another longtime favorite, the clay pot eggplant. Both dishes were excellent, as always. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Chinese food and consistently great flavors. The owner, Tony, always greets guests warmly and makes everyone feel welcome. I'll start by saying that I still think River House is the best Chinese restaurant locally ,but today I tried their shrimp and broccoli and it was somewhat disappointing. The shrimp potion , as expected is always less than chicken entrees. But this wasn't the main issue. The shrimp had a stronger than usual seafood taste like it wasn't thoroughly washed and the texture was tougher than in used to like it was possibly overcooked. The sauce was god and the broccoli tasty but the shrimp was a little offputting. I'm not sure I would order the shrimp and broccoli again. read more

This place is a hidden gem. If you're looking for authentic Chinese flavors, it's definitely worth a visit. We ordered three entrées--one fish and two chicken dishes--along with sides of lo mein and fried rice. Each entrée came with a bowl of white rice, which was a nice touch. The standout dish for me was the Fish Fillet with Ginger, Scallions, and Hot Peppers. The flavors were well-balanced, and the fish was so good I saved it for last. Among the chicken dishes, we tried the Szechuan Style Fried Diced Chicken and the Chicken with Garlic Sauce. The fried chicken was solid, but the garlic sauce dish was a pleasant surprise--something new for us and definitely worth trying. I recommend pairing it with the spicy sauce they provide; it's flavorful without being too hot. The lo mein tasted fresh, like it had just come out of the wok, and complemented the mains nicely. We also ordered soup dumplings as an appetizer. They were served hot, but didn't quite meet our expectations--we've had better elsewhere. Decent Chinese place, I visited a friend who lives in Weehawken, and he recommended this place to try. We had a couple of dishes and shared. There was so much food that we took some home. I would go back again if that friend wants to go there again. There was an oversized parking lot, so parking was no problem, and we got seated right away. While visiting a friend before she dropped me back off at my hotel for the evening, we came to River House Chinese for dinner. Located in an inconspicuous strip mall right off the Hudson River, there was ample parking. We were seated right away because we came pretty close to closing time, but they did not seem bothered by this. I was ecstatic to see that they served Singapore noodles, one of my absolute favorite Chinese dishes. My friend ordered orange chicken and was thrilled. The service was fast and friendly. My first experience with River House was through a take out order. This was very easy to do through all of the delivery apps. I went with the classic chicken and broccoli meal. It was great! I would have liked more broccoli with my meal. My friends ordered the beef and broccoli meal and sesame chicken meal. They also agreed with having more broccoli with their meals. You never know what you're going to find in the Trader Joe's parking lot. I'm rolling out on a road trip tonight, and I didn't want to fire up the stove because it's a hundred degrees outside. Anyhow, I got a case of water at Joe's Place, and the I pranced into the River House. Once inside, I was taken back on how classy it was... mainly because its neighbor is Jersey Mike. The ambiance of this place is a vibe, and their service is great. They were very nice, pleasant, and the woman that took my order made sure she had my order right before hanging up. Granted I've only been here once but the quality of the food for the price they charge is heinous. I got 2 orders of the dumplings and a small SFR. I told them to cook the shrimp well done (cause my husband has a thing ) but the shrimp wasn't well done. Hubby and I went to go park by the Hudson that's near by to eat, we didn't even finish the food. Got home and later on warmed up the rice (figured I could spruce it up myself) maybe add some bouyon cause it was bland but as I was scooping it out there was some brown liquid at the bottom of the container. Now I will say they were not stingy on the shrimp and in my neighborhood the container it was in would be a large. So the portions aren't bad. So all in all everything about this place is great but the quality of the food is poor. Came here for lunch when in the area. This place is in a little strip mall with a large parking lot so it was easy to park. They are right by the water, so it was a nice view. It must be even nicer during the warmer months. They have a lot of traditional chinese food. For our meal, we got the soup dumplings, the lo mein lunch special and duck noodle soup. The soup dumplings were my favorite- such good broth! The duck noodle soup was close behind, just a little more work to eat but that is always the case with this dish. When we called to check up on the order because it was taking a while, they said we couldn't have an egg roll and soup. Well, they should update their Uber Eats options. The food here is solid! it's our go to Chinese spot when we're in the mood. Delivery is extremely fast. Portion sizes are good. But as an FYI, the prices here are double what you would pay in a normal takeout restaurant. That said, the quality of the ingredients that you are eating, are higher than the average restaurant. That comes at a price, and I am willing to pay for that. If you're looking for a good Chinese spot and don't feel like ordering take out, this is the spot. I've been here a couple times so far and it was great each time. They always give free wonton noodles with duck sauce and hot mustard, our favorite. For apps we always start off with the Egg Rolls, Vegetable Dumplings, Hot & Sour Soup, Boneless BBQ Ribs (well done) and Steamed Pork Soup Dumplings. Each time we go we try a different appetizer and everything we get always has been very good. For the main meal we always share everything. Our favorites are Beef Lo Mein, General Tso's Chicken and Sweet & Sour Chicken. The meat dishes come with a side of white rice. We haven't tried new main dishes but next time we go we will.
