It was fun watching the carts go by and choosing what looked good. We also asked for specific items off the dim sum menu and they would find it (or make it) and bring it out. There was a 2nd menu with other dishes that could be prepared on request. We enjoyed the Hong Kong fried lobster, which was chopped into manageable pieces. We had a bunch of different dumplings, steamed buns, rice rolls, little fried fish, saucy clams, meat filled pastries, chinese broccoli, sesame balls, surprisingly chunky mango pudding, and more. The variety was good and it was a fun experience to try a bunch of things. The individual items were still fairly large and some could be cut and shared. We're often on Main St grabbing dinner at Azuma, but this is the first time we got dim sum at Aquarius. They open at 11, and if you get there right when they open, you won't have to wait. If you get at 11:15, it's likely an 1hr + wait. We were seated at a large shared table. The carts came out quickly, all serving fresh, hot dim sum. Almost everything was delicious. We got hargow, shumai, leek dumplings, shrimp with bacon, rice rolls with fried dough (you have to order these, they don't come around), the char sui soh were excellent, this is a must order. Overall it was pretty solid I had never tried duck so I got the roasted half duck which I would give a 8/10 definitely good but the price of $36 seems a little high for the amount of meat. The inside of the restaurant is still the same, lots of tables cramped in a small space. I found the dim sum items to be much better quality. The dumplings, shau mai, rice cake, mango jelly, egg tar, beef tendon all were really tasty. Carts were going around more often. But the dishes we got from the kitchen wasn't too impressive. I didn't like the rice and noodles much. The service was better this time. We got the server's attention few times when we needed some assistance. Since driving into Chinatown NYC isn't always convenient, Aquarius in Fort Lee is a very solid local alternative. We ordered takeout and got the honey walnut shrimp and golden fried rice--both were really satisfying. The shrimp was crispy with a light batter, paired nicely with sweet candied walnuts and fresh broccoli. Great balance of textures and flavor. The golden fried rice had a good wok flavor and fluffy texture, and we leveled it up by adding Chinese broccoli at home--which made it even better. Yes, it's on the pricier side, but you're paying for quality and well-prepared ingredients. Portions are fair and everything was packaged neatly for takeout. DO NOT COME! Absolutely the worst service I have ever experienced. We waited for more than 30 minutes and they still refused to give us any kind of estimate. After asking multiple times what was going on, the staff finally showed us a reservation list with over 20 names on it, so clearly they had no intention of seating walk-ins. If they want to run a reservations-only system, then say that upfront or put up a sign instead of wasting people's time. It honestly feels like they keep people waiting outside on purpose just to create a fake crowd and look popular. Stopped by here for dimsum on a weekend- they were busy before opening, a line outside. They processed many tables quickly inside, before stopping and having people sign in on a waitlist. It took about 30min to get through 12 tables before us (we were a party of 6, so what they called "small" tables 1-6ppl); some tables went unused as they were reserved (apparently for larger groups you can call in to reserve ahead of time). They will text your phone when it's ready for your turn. They have staffers running around with carts, and not everything on the menu is on the carts; you can ask staff if you don't see something you want. They have a cute egg custard bun that looks like a piggy (see picture). Roast duck was ok; very crunchy and very greasy. I prefer more flavor. The roast pork puffs were ok; outside good but the bbq pork inside lacked strong enough flavor. The chicken feet and tripe, again, flavor a bit too mild or slightly off of what I'm used to at Jing Fong. Shrimp rice rolls and fried leek & shrimp dumplings were enjoyed, though. A really fresh authentic dimsum cart restaurant that is a local favorite. Even prior to their opening hour (11 am) on Saturdays people start lining out the doors with their friends and families to kick off their weekends. The moment you sit down, the ladies start pushing around the various carrs and they have everything from the classic rice roll, baked buns, congee, and all the other dimsum goodies you can expect in a larger facility. The dimsum especially in the morning tastes super fresh, all of the dumplings and rolls are stuffed with lots of meats and vegetables and the service is super attentive. Some of my favorite dishes include, black bean spare ribs, preserved egg congee, shrimp hargow, pork shumai, and of course the glistening char sui bao buns. Ambiance is casual and great for large groups of people. I would say, like most dimsum spots this isn't a place to sit idly and catch up with friends but rather eat a piping hot meal quickly and head out. The food was delicious and everywhere. So many options. And although we have a pescatarian diet and a love for veggies we were able to find plenty to eat. They were also very accommodating. For example the Singapore noodles on the menu comes with meat. We requested just seafood and veggies. They says no problem. We didn't see the pea shoots on the menu. They said no problem. And although there weren't any chive and shrimp dumplings out on the floor, they came out of the kitchen with some for us. So pleasant! It's a very busy and active, fast pace establishment. The carts are coming by constantly offering you something, quickly trying to figure what it is. Pretty good dim sum if you don't want to cross the bridge into the city. We came here for lunch on Thanksgiving and the place was a total madhouse - but as we were leaving around 2, things had started to quiet down. I recommend coming on the later end, though if you're a group of 3 people or less, you may still have to share a table with another group. I really liked the dim sum plates we ordered: the shrimp har gow was stuffed with plump shrimp and the spinach/shrimp dumplings were nicely fried. The congee with thousand year egg was a tad bland. I was impressed by the variety of dim sum - all the dumplings, buns, rolls, and even some sort of tofu pudding. Seeing the ladies push around the carts was a nice callback to childhood. The dishes we ordered off the menu were delicious too. I recommend the string beans and the steamed ginger/cilantro fish, which they deboned with finesse at the table. The one order that fell last was the Peking duck, which came as mostly pieces of thick, fatty skin (not super crispy and no tender chunks of meat). Service was, well, maybe not as effusive and polite as a sit-down joint somewhere else but when I'm face-deep in dim sum, I cared a little less about it. Very authentic Chinese food beautifully prepared in an equally beautiful restaurant. First time dining at Aquarius having passed by many times. Upon entering t's clearly a beautiful upscale restaurant. We had a little trouble deciding what to order with such a big menu. Fortunately the manager took interest in us and helped my wife choose a seafood dish that looked amazing. And she absolutely loved it. See pic! I went with Kung Pao chicken from the "American" section of the menu (nice add). I must say that I prefer larger chunks of chicken than what was prepared, but it was quite spicy and tasty. Scam and hair in food. Abominable service and should be reported. We made a reservation for a private room for 11 guests for Saturday dinner as we were celebrating a birthday. A week in advance we called to confirm what is the smallest size king crab to procure, they said 8lbs. We agreed to this specific weight and placed this order knowing that we had 9 adults and 2 infants under 1 year of age since we didn't want a large crab as that would not make any logical sense at all. We were quoted $70/lb, so this would be $560 for the crab alone. Fast forward to the day of the reservation, they claim they only have a single 14lb crab in the ENTIRE restaurant. We did not want this crab as if it actually were 14lbs, there's no way 9 adults could finish it and we were having this specialty crab the following week at a flushing restaurant for another celebration so we didn't need to have it there and then. We were willing to forgo the crab and order other seafood dishes. The "manager" then came in and said we had to take the 14lb crab at $70/lb which would mean $980 (a $420 difference) so almost $1k for crab alone. This crab was allegedly almost double in size. If it were only a 2lb difference it may have made sense but it didn't at all. We said we weren't taking it. Then, he said we could have the crab for $60/lb x 14 = $840, still $280 over the quoted price. We said no thanks. Then he came back in and said he would charge us a $500 "service fee" for the crab itself. An hour passed of back and forth but nowhere have we ever heard of an absurd service fee for the restaurant's mistake. The infants were growing tired as well as the entire party and this left a sour taste in everyone's mouth. Bad vibes all around. They were in complete denial and kept insisting / trying to force this crab on us and we were willing to walk out and go to another restaurant, infants in tow. After wasting our breath talking to these scammers, they said they would let us have the crab at 8lbs quote. The dish came out in two preparations but it did not look like 14lbs at all. They either removed about half of the crab or it was 8lbs all along. They don't weigh the crab in front of you. We confirmed this when we had a 12lb crab at the flushing restaurant which was an actual epic crab! This one at Aquarius was the smaller sized crab all along but they tried to pull a fast one. The other dishes were mediocre and the sautéed pea shoots with garlic had a black hair in it. STAY FAR AWAY from this shady establishment. read more
