Dined here in a private area for a NYU alumni event. The place was sprawling and spacious, with fancy decor. We enjoyed a tasting of the menu, with the appetizers including Noodles with minced pork, spicy fries, chili steamed dumplings, scallion pancakes, and green veggie dumplings. The Noodles were perfectly cooked and the minced pork was bursting with flavor. Fries were satisfyingly crispy, well seasoned, but had a kick to it, so tasted too spicy for me. Chili dumplings were filled with yummy meat, and were surprisingly not that spicy. Scallion pancakes were thin, with a nice crunch, and plenty of scallion taste. Veggie dumplings were just okay, as I found the outer wrapping to be too thick and filling to be a little bland. For the main courses, we were served pork with celery and peppers, chicken with onion and peppers, veggie noodles, and spicy tofu. The pork dish was my favorite, as the meat was tender, and full of wonderful savory flavor, while the veggies were fresh and cooked well. Service was good. We had gone to Han Dynasty for lunch. The restaurant has a massive seating area, and we were seated immediately on entering (no wait time). We ordered their cumin chicken, chilli oil dumplings and fish soup. Really enjoyed the fish soup - it was not very umami and had the right amount of tang. The portion size was massive and enough to feed three people. The cumin chicken was delicious as well, and the cumin flavour really came through. These two were the star dishes for me. The dumplings were good, but the flavours were a bit alien to me. Han Dynasty is definitely worth it, considering that the prices are pretty low and the dishes are super packed with flavours. It might be OK to good dining-in, but epic fail on local delivery. About 50% of the food cost went to delivery and 3 different "service" fees, even with the minimum tip chosen. So automated, so impersonal, so costly going through Yelp and partner fee-collectors. The string beans with minced pork, I will say, was very good, crunchy and well-done. Spicy pork dumplings (chili oil) was 'interesting', not peanut/sesame style, but a thin, dark, spicy sauce, maybe very nice for some, and the dumpling itself was pasty/fresh, guessing that's one of the highlights (the 'pastas'). Jury is out on the expensive shredded ginger duck. First impression was "this is duck?" as it was a bit tough and stringy, could've been something else, and very salty. I'm a duck lover and this was not a happy choice. And that, is my first - and. likely last - impression. Was a walk-in on a Saturday night at eight, but this place is huge and we were seated within twenty mins! Noise levels on the lower end, even when the place was busy! Our order was quickly taken by our friendly server, Jeevan, which included: Ginger Sour String Beans (nice and garlicy), Chicken Lo Mein, Veggie Fried Rice, Cumin Fries, Dry Pot Style (Chicken, and Tofu). The chicken was dry, as if it was a leftover from the night before, then added with sauce. I understand that take out taste is not as good as eat in. But being a New Yorker, I accustomed to take out. This place is GASSSS. Went in on a Monday night and it was deserted. Felt like we were royalty at the Han Dynasty for the night. Service was fantastic and the music was good. It wasn't noisy and the songs were bumping, we had to ask who was on aux. The spicy, crunchy cucumbers might be the best cucumber salad I've ever had. It's so good, I'm trying to recreate it at home and I just can't nail it 100%. The chicken wings were delightfully hot, crunchy, and juicy. It was spicy but spicy in a way where your mouth salivates, yearning for more...not spicy to where we were crying from heat. Stir fry was good, drinks were good, portions are good, prices are great. It's generally been pretty good in the past, but my most recent experience was a real disappointment. While prices have risen substantially over the past few years, portion sizes have noticeably shrunk. My beef lo mein had virtually no beef in it, and the amount of lamb in the cumin lamb dish was frankly pathetic. Even the Sichuan pickled vegetables now come in a smaller container, which feels like a transparent attempt to disguise portion cuts. The food itself is decent, but it no longer offers anything close to fair value. I won't be going back. read more

If you have a chance to come here on the first Monday of every month, they have a 15 course tasting menu that is phenomenal. Otherwise, if you come here on any other day, you will still leave more than satisfied. Always an incredible experience here. We were looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant, and didn't want go to China town. So we found this gem! We entered in the middle of the day on a Sunday. Wasn't busy, thankfully for us! First of all the place is huge. Looks are quite deceiving. This place is deep!! We were immediately greeted by a hostess who sat us. Then a server came by. We ordered the Wontons in chili oil! They were so good. Had some "kick" to them! But what impressed me, was how tender and light the wonton noodles were. Melt in your mouth!! Then we had the House Special Fried Rice. The chicken and pork in there was so tender!! Could have used some soy sauce, but was excellent! We then had the General Han's Chicken. The chicken was tender. I liked the fact that the dish was pretty full and not loaded with broccoli to "fill the plate", like every other restaurant. I would give it 3.5 actually as there were some good and bad things at this restaurant. We started with the dan dan noodles and scallion pancakes. The pancakes were not very good. Not much flavor even with the sauce so pretty bland overall. 2 people at our table loved the noodles and me and another thought they were good but had too much peanut sauce. The noodles were cooked well and it had a nice kick but I felt the sauce was too cloying. I had the wonton soup and it was really bad! The broth was totally bland! Nothing else in it but scallions and wontons. The wontons were all opened and there weren't that many. Definitely a huge let down! For dinner, my girlfriend and friend ordered the kung pow. She got shrimp and he got chicken. I tasted both and they were decent but both said they lacked heat and weren't a true kung pow. My friends wife ordered the garlic chicken. She felt it was good. I thought it was ok but needed more garlic. I ordered the cilantro beef with edamame and this was the best dish ordered at the table! The meat was cooked perfectly...tender and flavorful. The cilantro and edamame added some excellent flavor. This dish has a very strong kick so if you are not into spicy food, this is not your dish. Unfortunately though, many things were lacking. Great option for family-style Chinese food on the UWS. My party of 5 was worried they wouldn't take a walk-in on a Saturday night, but it ended up only being a 10 minute wait. In the meantime, the staff was friendly and offered to have us wait at the bar. My group ordered a couple of entrees and sides to share, including the cold sesame noodles and the salt n pepper style tofu. Service was incredibly fast and we had all our food in under 10 minutes. I was looking for more of a budget option (entrees are $19-$25 each) so I went with the seafood tofu soup for $16. It's big - probably enough to serve 5 or 6 as a side. However, I was starving and finished the whole thing myself lol. I liked it, although I felt that the broth itself could have been a little more interesting. I've been going to Han Dynasty on the Upper West Side for about eight years, and this was by far the most disappointing visit. I asked the waiter to bring the appetizers first, but everything came out together. The dishes were bland and lacked the signature flavor this restaurant used to have. They also didn't honor the spice-level numbers which is something I've always liked about Han Dynasty- being able to choose how spicy you want your food. The decor had a modern industrial vibe, big Asian inspired graphics, the music selection was rap... but not so loud that it was invasive. They immediately told up that they close at 10pm... on the menu how've it said they were open every day to 2am.... but based on just us 2 being there...I could understand why they were closing early.. they had more staff then customers... based on the quality of the food, I hope they last... okay, the food.. sorry it took so long to get here... will first we got jasmine tea in a beautiful iron pot... it was dark and not fragrant at all... more like red tea ... we then ordered the spicy cucumber salad, the spicy beef tendon soup and the cumin lamb. The reason they didn't get 5 stars was the cucumber.. it was colly sweet... however, I did complain, they took it back and brought out a less sweet version that complemented the other spicy food.. the beef tendons were cut into dice sized cubes, it can with just a bit of bok choy and spaghetti in a delicious slightly spicy broth...I will definitely have that again. Had not realized they had so many locations. Ate at the original location a decade ago in Old City Philly and not much has changed in that time 80 miles away on the UWS. This time we did takeout. It's just not authentic. The green beans were the one dish that was close. Everything else was just calling it in. A really nice place to get food with friends. The Dan Dan noodle was special, with a nice mix of sauce and noodle. The complexities of the sauce showed up. Other appetizers include some dumplings which were excellent and properly browned, a pickled cucumber, and a cold noodle dish. The tendon appetizer was nice as well although a bit sugary. The tofu fish spicy stew was less successful ... there wasn't enough complexity of flavor and not enough protein relative to sauce. The scallion lamb needed more variety of flavor. The pea pod stem leaf was decent with good garlic flavor. In general the dishes weren't spicy enough. The dishes are rated from 1 to 10 and the 10s felt like 5s. The service was really helpful and the interior was elegant and spacious. A worthy place to dine. EDIT: Want to also note that the service was excellent and prompt. In fact, at times servers suggested a slight alternative to our initial choice, and when we took said suggestion, it turned out to be a really great dish! read more
