River Lodge is a clean and comfortable place that is also affordable and relatively close to West Yellowstone. The beds are great, and it is across the street from the river. Be forewarned that there is NO staff on site, as the "lobby" is across the street at the sister hotel. That is also where breakfast is, so you will need to drive for that. I would stay again, but I might pick the sister hotel (Antler's) over this location.

One of the only motels I have stayed in with an actual key! This motel/lodge takes me back. In the tiny town of Island Park ID, this area is a fishing Mecca! Not much else to do, but Yellowstone is close, and there is plenty of scenery, hiking and rafting close by. There is a great restaurant across the street called TroutHunter (see my review) and I believe that River Lodge has a sister property down the road with a restaurant (reservations only) My room had low ceilings, was very cozy with a king sized bed, and a massive tv! Wi-Fi is free and worked perfectly, and check in and check out is done remotely, so there is no front desk. If you need anything, the staff are VERY responsive! I was having trouble with the TV (user error) and some one was at my door in less than 5 min. I was impressed! I had a great nights sleep my first night so don't hesitate to stay here!

This is the tick we found on the bed. Reaction of staff to this "discovery" was rather blasé for our taste.

Stay away, friends. That is, unless your preference is a non-functioning shower, ticks in the bedsheets and an ice machine completely out of order. Please note, I was led to the ice machine by a helpful and friendly member of their housekeeping staff, only to find it empty and unplugged. The shower was by far the worst I've ever experienced, with barely a trickle of water escaping the shower head. I've traveled to Europe, with their strict water limitations and this was far, far worse. We reported these deficiencies as soon as we could and were assured by their customer service staff that they would rectify the items and upgrade our room in order to compensate us for our troubles. This seemed a fair offer, but when we returned from Yellowstone Park that day, we were informed that the upgraded room had been provided to another party. Listen, we all know that things go wrong - the world being an imperfect place and all - so what really matters is how you deal with it. In this case, they promised a satisfactory resolution, but did not deliver on it. This is sad, because the backbone of their product isn't terrible - the rooms are rustic and mildly charming in a drab, old-world kind of way - but their customer service is truly awful. I'd stay away and spend my vacation/travel dollars elsewhere. Hopefully this review will help other vacationers avoid the negative experience we had. Peace out.

remote check was A breeze. Received text message day before with instructions and cabin number, very welcoming. When I arrived, there was a personal greeting with my name and lots of helpful information. Thank you Cory and Mary Beth. such a delightful stay. spotless (thanks Kelsey) all the amenities, cozy, clean cabin, excellent soap and lotion, buffalo plaid blankets, cedar panel walls, log head board, very spacious and a FRONT PORCH. they even had a nightlight. fire pit outdoors with picnic tables. great surrounding area to walk the pup. added bonus, you get to park right. outside your front door.

beautiful place! my partner and i absolutely loved staying here. we only stayed here for one night, but it's been the best place we've stayed during our north/midwest roadtrip. the area is beautiful... like, breathtaking to a couple coming from a big city. we went for a walk by the nearby lake while looking for a place to eat at, and it was gorgeous. check-in/out is remote which i kind of loved. we received a text from jagger with instructions about check-in/out, they were detailed and helpful. it's easily been the smoothest check-in/out as well as stay that we've experienced so far. also, despite being remote, the customer service was amazing (better than what we've been experiencing in person)! if you're on your way to yellowstone, or just nearby, i highly recommend staying here for the night!

Main lodge, there are also larger individual unit cabins behind this

This was one of the best places to date we've stayed. Yes, the room is small. Yes, our room didn't have AC. But, if you can live with a little noise, which decreases to basically nothing overnight, open the window to let in cool air from the river (which is right across the street, and a nice walk to take in the evening!) We had no issue with check in - we were actually contacted prior via text message with all the information we needed. All we had to do is text back when we arrived, and our room was ready for us. It's only a little ways to Yellowstone, so if you're honestly looking for something close to Yellowstone, this isn't the place for you. But, we weren't prepared to pay the Yellowstone price tag, so this was great. Also dog friendly, which was a great perk. The room was clean, and very nicely decorated. It did take a few minutes for the water to heat up to shower, but it was fine. There is a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee pot. TV works with no issues. It's not perfect, but if you want a "Lodge" feel, check it out.

The other nights were in E Loop, a group camp site. The campground is full of trees, which provided nice shade. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring with a grill surface. Sites with tent space have a raised tent pad that can accommodate a 60-foot tent. It was very peaceful here and didn't hear any road noise, since our sites were away from the highway. There were separate camp hosts for both of the sites we were at. The couples were very pleasant. The group site hosts let us leave our trailer there before check-in, so we didn't have to tow it with us to Yellowstone. As with all Forest Service campgrounds, the cost was inexpensive. We plan to come back and do some fishing on the nearby world-class streams.

Host came around several times a day and checked in on folks so we could ask questions and feel at home. Good fishing on the river. I was very disappointed with the level of customer service and management responsiveness I received. On three separate occasions, your customer service representatives assured me that a manager would contact me regarding my concerns. Unfortunately, I never received a return call. Failing to follow through on promised callbacks creates a poor customer experience and leaves customers feeling ignored. During my initial conversation, a customer service representative explained that in an emergency, management would typically contact the customer directly to discuss the circumstances and, when appropriate, consider a partial refund or another resolution. Based on that information, I expected at least the courtesy of a conversation with management regarding my concerns. Instead, my attempts to communicate were repeatedly disregarded. On my final call, the representative answered in a way that made me feel like an inconvenience rather than a valued customer. Throughout the entire process, the manager never returned my calls or spoke with me directly. Regardless of the outcome, I believe every customer deserves respectful communication and follow-through when concerns are raised. Unfortunately, my experience reflected a lack of professionalism and customer care, which is not how a reputable business should operate.

-- Sawtelle Mountain Resort, Island Park, ID…read more Be careful with hidden charges here. After checkout, I discovered a $20+ charge on my card for a supposed "welcome gift box" that I never received and was never told about. According to the hotel, it included a small stuffed animal and some Snickers -- except none of it was in the room. When I called to dispute the charge, I got bounced between staff and management. They claimed they did an "investigation," but still refused to refund me. Charging guests for items they never received and then refusing to resolve it feels deceptive and extremely unprofessional. Advice for future guests: the second you enter your room, take timestamped photos or videos of everything before touching anything. Then immediately ask the front desk if there are any paid gift boxes or welcome items connected to your stay. If they say yes, do NOT go check by yourself -- bring a supervisor or manager into the room with you so everything is documented on the spot. Otherwise, you could end up being charged for something that was never there. Unfortunately, this felt less like a misunderstanding and more like a scam-style scheme hoping guests won't notice until they're already miles away.

We booked an rv site that holds a 24ft long vehicle. Our site 444 was at the very end next to a field but within a few minutes walking distance to the trash and bathrooms/showers. Showering and bathrooms is luxury when you're camping, so no complaints. I'm grateful. There are 4 shower stalls and 6 bathroom stalls in the women's restroom. I highly recommend wearing shower footwear because the floors are dirty. One stall had a broken lock, so I think people were only using 3 stalls. Plenty of hooks, counter space, and lights. Our site was mostly level with hookups. So nice to have when it's a hot summer day. I saw they have a coffee stand towards the front, a store, and a nice updated kids playground. This campground is 17 min from the next major town with lots of gas and food options on the way to Yellowstone.

Water and electrical hookups were reliable and easy to connect. It was definitely hotter than we expected, so I'd recommend shopping for groceries and drinks before you arrive. Cases of water were over $15 for a 12-pack, so bringing supplies with you will save some money. They have a breakfast shack and coffee shack open from 6:30-9:30 AM, and a dinner shack open from 6:30-9:30 PM, which was convenient. The coffee shack has ice cream too! The highlight for our kids was what they called the "hot pool." There's no hot tub, but the pool is heated and was warm enough that they wanted to swim every day. We also appreciated that the pool stayed open until 10:00 PM, which made for a fun way to end the evenings. The kids also had a blast on the huge jump pad and playground. There was a nice gaga ball pit with the rules clearly posted, and it was always full of kids playing together. There's a dog park on site that's a nice amenity. It would be perfect for most dogs, although it felt a little large for our family's dachshund. One feature we really appreciated was the bathhouse. There were plenty of showers and bathrooms, plus a family shower that made evenings much easier. With seven of us, it was far more convenient than trying to have everyone shower in our small RV. Only complaint would be a little extra cleaning in the showers through the day. The KOA is conveniently located about 15 minutes from the park and only 10 minutes from town, where we found gift shops, ice cream, pizza, grocery stores, and plenty of other essentials. Overall, it's a clean, family-friendly campground with dependable RV hookups, great amenities, and plenty to keep both kids and adults happy. We'd happily stay again.
