The coffee here was quite comparable to the coffee we fell in love with in Paris. We've been having trouble finding anything comparable in the US, but this came pretty close. It was so delicious! We also had the breakfast sandwiches which we're on homemade English muffins. That definitely made it!! They were soooooo good. Our only suggestion would be to alter the ingredients a bit as we could pretty much only taste the egg/cheese. The inside decor is also lovely. A nice find in a very unassuming location. Inside is quaint and there is a community feel in the relationships between staff and customers, which is always nice to see. They use Stumptown, which hasn't done it for me for some time, but nevertheless the barista was skillful and prepared well made beverages. I had an espresso and a cortado. The espresso lacked a richness or earthiness that I like in my espresso, but that's typical of Stumptown who seem to have gone the bright, single source route like too many skilled roasters. The cortado on the other hand was excellent. It would seem that with how river maiden pulls shots and stumptown's espresso, that about 3oz of steamed milk is spot on. Very caramelly and sweet and surprisingly a bit more richness than the espresso. I wouldn't go larger than a cortado tho as the espresso does have the pep to kick through much more milk than a cortado. Overall, shop well done, baristas are skilled and friendly but their bean of choice leaves it a star short for me (but I understand that's personal preference!). Only tip: sparkling water with espresso. read more

Stopped in on a whim after driving by. Got a coffee for myself and two breakfast sandos to go for my parents. They said they were delicious! Coffee was good too. My only complaint was a long wait for the food - but it was a busy Saturday morning. I'm looking forward to going back to try the food!! read more

Beautiful place and interior. Lots of parking. Clean and airy atmosphere but inconvenient time slots. Food is served only until noon-ish and then closing at 6 is a bit early. I would come more often in the evenings, maybe try longer hours? Good flavored coffee and I like that they have wooden stitch sticks instead of plastic which is good for the environment. read more

I thought we were going for Sunday morning coffee, but ended up trying almost everything on the menu at this fabulous place. The lemon poppyseed & marion berry scones were to die for. Don't know what they do, but I've never had scones this flavorful with such a beautiful texture. The greek yogurt bowl offered a coconut milk & chia seed option which was a huge hit & delicious with the fresh berries & granola. The egg sandwich was my husbands fav--he couldn't stop talking about how fantastic it was. The coffee was great & the employees were awesome--can't wait to come again when we visit Vancouver. read more

This place has got me hooked. Their Clover coffee produces a better cup than french press, and uses quality Stumptown coffee as well. The staff is always outstanding and the ambience is nice and comfy, with wi-fi and pretty good music playing. This is a Vancouver necessity. read more

Not only do they serve awesome Stumptown coffee, but the staff also knows what they're talking about when it comes to the science behind barista-ing. I went there with a friend, the biggest coffee snob I know, with the express purpose of testing them, and they passed our silly ruse with flying colors. I can safely say they know what they're doing, and most importantly lack that air of self importance that so many coffee shop workers have. This coffee house is amazing! They serve Stumptown coffee, which is a coffee I will drive out of my way for! They have donuts from VooDoo Donuts in Portland :) The barista's are always friendly and highly knowledgeable , the owner Melissa is just awesome. Remember that this is an artisan coffee shop; it will take a bit longer to make because each drink is made to order. It's more than worth a try, I bet you will keep going back! read more

We stopped into this fine spot for a cup of Vantucky Strikes Back and some pastries before a hike. The folks behind the counter were friendly, the coffee was great, and the pastries were tasty. I had looked up The River Maiden on Yelp but had not made it. As I was out running errands today I saw their sign on the corner of Mill Plain and thought today would be a good day. I went in with visions of Starbucks in my head (I am NOT a fan of Starbucks). The young lady who waited on me was very pleasant and friendly. I asked a few questions and decided to try my standby - Hazelnut Mocha (with whip cream). I am so used to getting that slimy chocolate that no one ever stirs up from the bottom so I was prepared...FORTUNATELY there was no slimy chocolate! It was great. I have not had such a good cup of coffee in a long time. I also ordered a flourless chocolate cookie that was like a brownie texture. It was extremely good. I will be back to the River Maiden again to try different coffees and different goodies. The prices were good and the staff great. read more

This is my favorite coffee shop in the Vancouver area. Having milk steamed the *right* way is a big deal to me. I don't want to be, but I am a bit of a coffee snob. So I appreciate River Maiden and their wonderful coffees! I get a tall latte and have never been disappointed. Best coffee in Vancouver hands and feet down! They use Stumptown coffee beans and every time their latte's taste better than when I get one at an actual Stumptown location in Portland. The barista's are bangin like second gear, every time I come in they recognize me, they ask how my day is going and they remember my usual drink and often start making it before I get to the cash register to place my order. If you are going anywhere else in the Couve for coffee you are only hurting yourself. I only wish they would open up another location closer to downtown so I don't have to drive as far! read more

The vibe and location of the shop is a little awkward, because it's located in a small commercial type of building. You just don't get that "coffee shop" feel when you walk in. But, the Stumptown coffee and friendly people make this a place for a good cup of coffee. read more

Last time to visit. I asked for my coffee (regular drip) in a to go cup thinking I could get the 1 free refill on my way out. Guy says 'no, only mugs for here get a refill'. Would it kill your profit margin to refill a 12 oz cup of drip coffee I just paid $2.75 for? I'm not asking for an all-day coffee tap or anything special, it's drip coffee FFS! and not any different than you can get at the numerous other coffee shops in the area.
