I got the hazelnut latte. It was okay, nothing special. The place is kind of hidden but not too hard to find. They have good free internet here. Not sure if I got the friendly treatment like everyone else was saying in their ratings. The girl just took my order, no smile or nothing, and she didn't even ask if it was for here or Togo. Wonderful coffee. Yummy snacks. Friendly ambiance. What more could you ask for? Great selection of coffee, and tea. Wide range of snacks from cookies to bran muffins. We stayed almost until closing time, chatting and losing track of time. Not once did we feel like anyone was watching to see when we would leave, you know how people do sometimes when it's close to closing and they want you to hurry so they can get their closing duties finished... Best sit-down coffee in The Couve. Stumptown is good stuff, but a bit on the bitter side; not nearly as bad as Starbucks, but Dutch Bros' is actually better in my not-so-humble opinion. Agree that the ambience is slightly off, like they haven't fully settled in to being a weird and quirky counterculture joint that their name is just screaming for them to become. But it's a good place to plot presentation projects with a friend and relax for a while talking over random subjects; a shining star in that regard when it comes to Vancouver. Staff is EXTREMELY friendly and helpful; talkative, and an instant rapport is gained, which is a major plus. I'd be tempted to rate them five stars if they tossed a couple of old couches with blankets over them into the place and kept their hours open much later, esp. on the weekends. read more

This is my first visit here and I think it's ok. I would have given it 4 stars except for a couple of reasons. First when you buy food and a drink they bring you your food but you pick up your drink at the bar. It's ok except you wouldn't just know to do that so they brought my food and I just sat there waiting to get my coffee until I decided to get water and saw it sitting there. The second is my large Carmel latter was almost 1/4 whip cream and isn't as good as the other coffee places I go to. The place isn't terrible it just won't be my go to. Oh, and if you want people to come back at least seem interested. If you have a rewards program encourage people to sign up just don't still a sign on the front of the register and not explain it. I'm so glad I tried this place! Compared to other coffee shops I frequent, they are both less expensive AND taste much better than Starbucks, using delicious local Stumptown beans. Plus, they have super friendly staff and they carry rice milk. I can't have soy or dairy, so this is a major plus for me. My favorite part though... they have plenty of tables and plenty of outlets next to them to plug your computer in when you are using their free wi-fi. They also have comfy sofas and outdoor seating. Good coffee, weird ambience. Yes, they have Stumptown, which I am a fan of, and they have a now more-rare Clover machine (since Stumptown doesn't use them anymore) which produced an amazing cup of Ethiopian coffee. They have a full selection of beans to use for your Clover cup, and if you care at all about coffee it is worth the wait vs. getting "regular" drip. I didn't try any of their espresso drinks, but the barista was pouring a couple of cappuccinos while I waited to order and the texture of the milk looked good, proper microfoam. He achieved a nice pour and good latte art. He was also friendly and seemed fairly knowledgeable about coffee and willing to discuss it with a geek like me. Only off-putting part is the ambience. A friend with me suggested it felt kind of "institutional", and reading others' reviews about this place formerly being a drivers-ed, it makes sense. They do have a few couches and comfy chairs, but seriously need to redecorate. The bookshelf of books and a game or two is a nice plus, though. read more

They serve Stumptown and I was pumped to find a place that might be able to recreate the Stumptown tastes. They do not offer any pour overs. They do offer a Stumptown drip. It tasted burned. Boo. I can't say how much I love this place, great to stop in and grab a quality cup or stay in and use the wifi. They're looking to remodel soon, which scares me a bit because right now the place is so very cozy. My partner can stay online for hours and I curl up in one of the big chairs with a book. The new location is larger and more open than the old one but the ceiling is open as well, which makes for a lot of echoing and yelling at the person you're seated next to or across from. Despite all this space, there isn't much seating provided so if you have a group of four or more, you have to push together multiple 2 seater tables. The ony food which was safe for myself is their potatoes. They were over-seasoned and not impressive. They do have breakfast bagels, and other better looking plates but none of them are safe for me. They also have the option of a bagal-less sandwich, which consists of egg. If you want to add meat so you have egg and meat, you're looking at just shy of ten for one egg and a sausage. That's a bit steep. I purchased a basic latte and it was noticably more bitter than when I bought them at the old location. I don't know if the barista did something different, they use different beans or a different machine now, but the coffee wasn't as good. I like to see local businesses thrive so I hope they do better but I can't say I'll be back soon. read more

The coffee was phenomenal as well as the pastries. I was caught a little off guard by the small coffee menu (frequent Starbucks girl) but decided on the hazlenut latte. I was not disappointed at all and would make this my regular coffee place if it were a little closer to me. The Stumptown coffee they use along with the careful way they craft your drink made for the best cup of coffee I've ever had with a bonus really cute leaf on top in the form of foam. The cheddar bacon biscuit is delicious and a must try. If you get there and they have these available, get one or all of them. They sell out of them fast and for good reason. read more

They are very very slow taking orders, and when they finish your drink they just set it on the counter, if you don't hear your order say good bye to hot coffee. My friend and I started our road trip here after a late lunch. We were tired from travelling in from various states and food coma from scarfing down burgers, and we had many miles to go before we'd arrive at our hotel. Stumptown coffee = delish. Friendly, patient, not (too) snobby baristas who actually took the time to explain their offerings to two women who were clearly exhausted. My friend's drink would have had two shots of espresso, and she only wanted one, and the guy was kind enough to offer the extra shot to me. He basically became my hero! I loved the feel of this place. There was plenty of cozy seating in the room off the main area, and I could totally imagine people sitting there for ages, never leaving. In fact, before we left for our flights back home a week later, I really wanted to stop by here again. Sadly, it was a bit out of the way. That's okay, River Maiden, I will find you again. read more

I am so in love with this little coffee shop. It's really nice inside, the service is fantastic and the coffee is awesome. The owners are really nice and everyone there seems to enjoy their job. It's a great place to go for work meetings, or after eating lunch. Just be careful, if you're there during a busy time it gets really loud and a lot of youth groups and churches will have Bible studies there. (Not my favorite) read more

This has been our favorite coffee shop for over 8 years. The staff is attentiveand cool without being smug and the coffee is good enough to wreck you for all other coffee shops. Prices went up a little after the remodel. We understand the need but, we do go less often now. $4+ buck for cold brew is pricat. However the quality and service just can't be beat. The one con and hence four stars: there is very little seating. We weren't expecting it to be only a coffee counter with a couple of bar stools. The place is tiny. The only available seating is out in the hallway between shops. We were lucky enough to snag a table, but it's not exactly a place that invites people to sit down and stay a while. There was free wifi with a good signal which was nice. But there were also numerous delivery guys with large dollies and people who work and live in the building coming in and out. I have yet to try the other locations, and perhaps the atmosphere is more coffee shop-like at those. I'm definitely going to give them a try. If I'm in the area I will certainly return to this location, but not with the intention of getting work done. Still, they are in the coffee business and they do that part very well. read more
