We don't move in until January 5th but i wanted to leave a review for the whole leasing experience. Brian Love in the leasing department was so helpful, attentive and responsive. He made the whole process easy and stress free-as stress free as moving can be! We looked at a few different apartments first and then went back to see the 2 bedroom we ultimately rented. The apartment was just renovated and has brand new bathrooms and kitchen! The bedrooms are spacious and there are multiple closets. After signing the lease we went back to see the apartment twice to take pictures and check it out after the work was finished. We currently live right across the street but are expecting and we were looking for a bigger apartment in a family friendly building. River Place met that criteria. We looked at multiple other 2 bedroom apartments in the area but found they were more expensive with less room and often strange layouts. No fee! And onsite leasing office was really convenient. We can't wait to move in! read more

I love this building! One River Place is an incredible building with fabulous amenities and great apartment layouts. But even better, is that awesome staff. We moved here 2 years ago and just renewed for another 2 years because we really can't imagine leaving! This building hosts monthly events with an amazing event coordinator named Joner. Joner is kind, helpful, sweet and really organizes fantastic events for our building. The building is also very family friendly and many of the events are for kids!! We even have a wonderful parent community in the building. The River Club is also great... and the manager Lori is wonderful!! She is so caring and also organizes many of the kiddie events as well... Akada is another fantastic staff member in the River Club. I really have nothing bad to say about this building and the staff and events are a big part of what keeps us staying here!! read more

This is best apartment in the city!! The quality of the amenities rise far above my expectations! Joner Hall is the resident relations manager and is constantly coming up with great ways to get the building involved with fun and exciting events! The front desk concierge are kind, competent and hard working, especially Carla, Mike and Dritan. The River club & lounge is so convenient and beautifully remodeled. Lori, the manager is on top of everything- and the staff at the river club are incredible hard working!!! You couldn't ask more of from a building. We won't live anywhere else in the city!!! read more

I'll second Maya K. Add to that, when I first moved into River Place years ago, Silver Towers were still under construction and I had a much better view of the city. The building is well maintained and staff are ok, but the management seems to be reorganized recently, and it's becoming more and more annoying to deal with them. There's a website for the tenants to connect with your neighbors or to submit your repair requests, etc. So when I requested that my A/C unit be repaired at 7PM, engineers swiftly came up to my apt and I was pleasantly surprised by that. However, the management has stopped accepting repair requests online, and now you have to talk to concierge each time. Reserving a freight elevator for a furniture delivery can still be done online, but they won't confirm it until they talk to you by phone. So what's the point of having an online reservation 24/7 when in fact you need to talk to them? - The windows have dirty rain droplets on them and they're not very attractive to look at. - Kitchen appliances and cabinets and bathroom products look very cheap compared to other high-rise buildings in the neighborhood. - No lightings on the ceiling, so you need floor/table lamps too. - As for noise, if your neighbor has one of those barking dogs, your stress level may go up rapidly and explode at some point. The same goes for crying newborn babies and small kids who continuously scream in the hallway. I'm on the higher floor, so the noise from the streets are bearable. - You need to use your key to open the door in the lobby each time you come home. Concierge people would unlock it for you prior to Summer 2011, but now security got tightened. - Laundry machine accepts only credit cards and each wash/dry cycle costs min $5, which some people say is higher than other places. At least we have a laundry room on each floor. - You can only have either Time Warner Cable or Directv in this building, not both. I wanted Directv and Time Warner cable internet though. Instead building-wide wifi is available for purchase from natural wireless. - Wind wind wind, very strong, cold wind. It's great in summer months though. - Right by the westside highway, so it's convenient to get to uptown/downtown in a cab. Also, M42 bus stop is in front of the building, and RP operates shuttles weekday mornings all the way to 2nd Avenue. I hear they started running evening shuttles too. - Doorman, Spiro is very friendly and popular. But doorman is not 24/7, only morning and evening hours. read more

I am not sure why there are bad reviews here. I have lived here for several months and have had nothing but a positive experience. The front desk and doormen are extremely helpful and friendly. Maintenance is good as my work orders for the apartment are done quickly and with care. I had a good experience while I was home for Christmas as my cat ran out of food. The pet store delivered it to the front desk and the front desk made sure the people watching my cat got the food. It was basically seamless. I have put instructions into the building mobile app for "Keylink" and they have always been honored. The dry cleaner and restaurant on premises are great too. The amenities are fantastic. I am extremely happy living here. Even in the morning, I can run to the shuttle to take me to the subway every 15 minutes and it is extremely convenient on days it is too cold or hot to walk. My one year lease is finally up, so I thought I would take the time to give you a review of my River Place experience from a NYC real estate brokers perspective. In terms of price per square foot for luxury doorman rentals, River Place offers some of the best layouts within the Hell's Kitchen area. The building itself was built in 2000, so the apartment finishes (at least for my apartment) were typical parquet flooring and white appliances, nothing real modern/fancy. The doormen/staff were all nice and any issue I had with my apartment in terms of repairs was dealt with quickly. River Place uses a system called Building Link which notifies tenants if they've received packages or dry cleaning among other things via email or through their website. There is an on-site gym which has an annual membership fee of $600. Being a member allows you access to a lap pool, basketball court, and generic weights/machines (it's nothing special). One of my colleagues recently said, "If the building offers a shuttle service, you know it has a terrible location." River Place offers a morning and evening shuttle service down 42nd St. Reason be is because the nearest subway station is a 4 avenue block walk to the Port Authority Bus Terminal (on average takes 15 minutes). Being located on 42nd and 12th Ave, you're practically living in New Jersey. This may enable you to take cabs back home more frequently which will result in a large chunk out of money taken out of your pocket (I spent close to $2000 on cab fare last year). My apartment faced the Hudson, which was great because I would get great evening light, had a fantastic view, and would get to see a lot of the firework shows and pier events from my window. On the other hand usually at about 10am on the weekends loud ship horns would tend to wake me up. Since you're next to the West Side Highway, whenever loud vehicles would go by you could hear them (motorcycle brigades were the worst). The apartment walls of the building are also extremely thin, so whether your neighbor is getting it on or someone is playing music you might as well be in the same room. I have a nice speaker system to go with my TV and even at it's lowest settings I would always get complaints from my neighbor. There is laundry room on every floor which is great, but every time I did my laundry of my floor my clothes were left damp and dirty. I couldn't take it anymore so I started to send it out to Omni Cleaners (44th and 10th Ave) which is a great laundromat. There is a laundromat attached to the building, but it's heinously overpriced and isn't as good as Omni. To renters out there, if you have a reason to live on 42nd and 12th Ave (i.e., chinese diplomat who works across the street) then by all means live at River Place. If you are new to the city and are open to other neighborhoods, Chelsea, Gramercy, Murray Hill, Kips Bay etc...offer very similar options for similar prices in much better locations. The only location benefit River Place has is that it's located right next to the West Side Highway bike path which is an easy way to get downtown/uptown if you're a cyclist. The building is managed well and offers decent amenities but at the end of the day it's in middle of nowhere. read more

Love living at River Place. We have a great two bedroom that overlooks the Hudson. We see boats and cruise ships and helicopters on "Hudson River TV" day and night. The staff is warm and welcoming, the building well-maintained and best of all I ride my bike up the Hudson River park bike path to work everyday. read more

I moved here about a month ago. My experience, overall, has been great so far. (I would give it 5 stars if not for a few annoyances I'll explain at the end.) PROS: Great value. I'm in a studio that is about 350 sq/ft. The gym is what sold me on the place. (It's not included in rent, but is a decent price. You pay for the whole year up front.) The gym gets a little busy, especially the treadmills in the morning. But, I've never been without a machine. The pool and full basketball court are a great extra! There are shuttles that go along 42nd in the morning and evening to help with the work commute. Sometimes the shuttle becomes standing room only in the morning, but still beats walking or taking the M42. The staff are all very friendly and responsive. Neighbors are friendly and quiet. I'm on a lower floor and was worried about hearing the bus station which could be seen out of my window. However, that has not been an issue. I do notice the engines at rush hour times, but it hasn't affected my sleeping at all. Typical NYC I'd say. Maintenance is very responsive also! I had an issue with the tub spout and they came within the day! My only complaint/forewarning would be about the move in process. The service elevator hardly counts as an actual service elevator. It is the same size as the regular use elevators, just add some scuff marks and padding to the walls. Getting my bed and couch up was a bit interesting. Also, there are only two service elevators (one per each "side" of the building). There were 2 other people moving in so using the elevator was a game of timing and patiently sharing with new neighbors. I'm glad I did not hire movers because they would have been paid for standing and waiting more than actually moving. (And bless the service elevator operators, they helped carry the heavy stuff to my unit!) When I signed the lease I was encouraged to move in on a Friday (a few days before the 1st of the month) in order to avoid the $200 fee for using the service elevator on the weekend. However, when I got my rent statement for the next month, those few extra days were prorated into the rent, which I was not expecting. I suppose I should have known. But as a heads up, whether its a service elevator charge or a couple prorated days, plan to pay a couple extra hundred dollars to just get set up. Now that I'm setted in the building though, I have no complaints at all! read more

My husband and I just moved out of River Place because we could no longer afford to live in Manhattan but I would have lived at River Place forever if I could. The building staff is absolutely incredible. The building is maintained very well. The park just downstairs is the perfect place to sit and relax. Only 2 cons - it was very far from the subways and our neighbor would blast club music at 2am (but you can encounter that anywhere I suppose). read more

After be there over ten years I am disappointed having to write such negative review. When I first moved in both leasing and management staff were so very helpful in every sense of the word. Then there was a change in staff and everything went down hill from there. The only response I ever heard from the management staff was no, for the last five or six years. I was charged for damaged blinds, which anyone who lives in the building knows how much of a joke the blinds are in the building and another charge for damaged wood tiles on the floor, which were only scratches and should be considered normal wear and tear in an apartment building. My wife and i recently moved to NYC from Miami. After looking at more than 25 apartments we had almost given up hope of finding something even close to the standard of our old home. We then stumbled upon River Place which came as a more than welcome relief. We found the staff extremely helpful and efficient, and were signed up and had the keys within a week. I'm extremely satisfied with my move to River Place. Kaitlyn in the leasing office went above and beyond to make my apartment a dream. I was in a tight situation where I needed to move quickly but didn't want to compromise my wish list. Upon researching and viewing River Place + Silver Towers, I found River Place to have the best energy. When originally viewing my now current apartment, there were parquet floors and beige-painted walls in the space. I spoke to Kaitlyn about my concerns and she assured me that those were changeable. When I moved in, I am proud to say that I have beautiful dark-wood, wide-paneled floors that looks phenomenal and white walls that make my home feel current and modern in a warm way. In regards to lease signing and moving in, Kaitlyn and the leasing office (shout out to Alexia!) made my transition seamless as I needed to move in 1.5 weeks time. I am extremely happy with the amenities and, while I could never see myself in Midtown before, I don't think I will ever want to leave. If I my oldest friend were looking for a rental in Midtown, I would definitely recommend them this high rise. read more

It saddens me to have to write a poor review of the apartment that I called home for eight years. Everyone there is fantastic except for the property management team. They charged me for damages to my apt that I did not make. They would not even go back to the original photos to check that it was not me. Beware! Ever since I stepped foot in this building I felt extremely welcomed and most importantly safe. I am a current resident and prior to moving in the building I went threw a tedious and strenuous process trying to find a place. Then I walked into 1 River place and from the maintenance crew to the concierges I was greeted in a way that makes you feel like you belong here. Till this day I am honored to have such a great staff that keeps the environment I live in safe, motivated, and happy. I give a lot of my moving credit to Kaitlyn who works in the leasing office. I walked into the leasing office and Yes! They did offer you coffee candy etc. As those gestures are very nice and all I still wasn't going to be suckered into living here by sweets. Kaitlyn was very professional and made sure that she showed me everything the building has to offer! From the Rooftop to the Gym I fell in love. She explained in great detail the benefits of the building. Searching for apartments was not fun to me at all! After she walked me around to the available apartments as well as getting a better understanding of the environment/community in the building I instantly knew there was no other place I rather live. I decided to sign the lease which consists of some paperwork. I can't stand filling out forms even at the doctors office but the people in the leasing office were so fun and energetic that I felt the need to stay! I didn't care if I filled out a novel they were very positive and are great examples of the community in itself. If you stayed at 1 River Place and you didn't like it then you may want to consider not living in NYC because it offers a tremendous amount of amenities that will be tough to get anywhere else in Manhattan. read more

IT'S A DESPICABLE WAY TO TREAT TENANTS AND YOU SHOULD NOT MOVE HERE IF YOU EXPECT RELIABILITY OF THE SHUTTLE BUS OR ASSISTANCE FROM MANAGEMENT. ---- UPDATES to below review the shuttle bus: Update - November 1st - I took a hiatus from using the shuttle bus because it's so awful and the building DOESN'T CARE AT ALL - 8:10 am bus arrived at 8:13...LATE AGAIN. - The building seems to think that the bus arriving a few minutes late means it's on time. That is not acceptable when you have a meeting or have to get your child to school. Three people left the line because they couldn't wait for the bus. - The building has done nothing to fix this issue and simply doesn't care. ---- Update - September 7th - 7:55 am bus didn't arrive until 8:00. Late AGAIN. ---- UPDATE - WHEN WILL MANAGEMENT START CARING ABOUT ITS TENANTS?? September 12 - 7:55 didn't arrive until 7:59 September 13 - 8:10 didn't arrive until 8:17, didn't leave until 8:20 and then also stopped at silver towers to pick them up. So, it didn't actually leave until 8:25. ---- I have lived here 5+ years and generally like the building and the staff but the things it doesn't do well really, really suck and completely change the entire living experience. (1) The shuttle bus in the morning has become a total scam! Do not move here with the expectation that there is actually an easy way to get to the subway. In the past year the bus has totally gone downhill. It is late almost every day and sometimes significantly late (~20 minutes). Tenants are extremely angry and the building doesn't care. In fact so many tenants were complaining that for a short time recently they had someone either from management or the bus company outside every morning to act like he was keeping track of bus lateness. However, this puny little guy literally did nothing but stand around and when a tenant challenged him on how late the bus always is, he just yelled back and walked away. You 100% can not rely on the bus to get to work on time or if you have a meeting. Just this past few weeks, here are some times the bus was late (these are only when I was outside and what I wrote down): September 1 - 7:55 didn't come and we had to use the silver towers bus which was so crowded we couldn't get on; August 31 - 8:10 came at 8:15; August 18 - 7:55 came at 8:11; August 16 - 8:40 came at 8:43; August 26 - 8:40 came at 8:51; August 23 - 8:55 came at 9:07; August 11 - 8:40 came at 8:59; August 10 - 8:55 came at 9:08; August 9 - 8:10 came at 8:19. If you have a meeting, you have to leave two buses ahead of schedule and you still might be late. Tenants are complaining constantly and the building literally does not care. Their answer is that there is traffic and construction. That is not an ok answer to tenants. If there is construction or more traffic than there used to be, then the bus company or building needs to adjust the bus times. When a tenant suggested this to the puny guy, he yelled at her that the bus drivers do the best they can and then he just walked away from her. The building lies by representing that there is a reliable bus and tenants are angry. (2) The gym is usually pretty great but Tom the trainer is a total fraud. In fact, they way that he teaches is actually dangerous and going to cause someone sever back damage. But, more important, he makes up lists of people that attend his classes on the weekends so it looks like they are full. But people want to use the yoga room for their own exercise and it's not fair that the room is booked every saturday and sunday morning all morning. The gym should stagger weekend classes so that people who want to use the yoga room can do so at least one day a weekend. It should also stagger classes at night so that some nights, gym payers can actually use the yoga room. (3) Also in the gym, they don't put air conditioning on in the side rooms. Everyone complains, they don't care. (4) There are dogs constantly on the grass outside of the building. Even though there are signs, security does not care to tell people to remove their dogs and it's gross. read more

The building itself and ground floor staff are great. The management and leasing staff are incompetent, dishonest and rude.

I've been living at one river place since 2012 and it hasn't been a great experience. When I first moved in I was all wide eyed about living in the city again (was living in Brooklyn). It all went down hill fast due to the noisemakers aka my neighbors. This building has paper thin walls and you will hear everything from dogs to bass noise to loud people talking. I've tried to cope with the issue by using a white noise machine but it didn't mask the noises. I also tried having management speak with my neighbors but they just keep on, not caring how I'm affected by their sound system. Still having this issue as I'm writing this review and now I have new noisy neighbors on the other side of my apartment. Security also told me that there was nothing they can do and I just have to deal with it since they say it's not a problem, but I'm told to continue complaining to them...........what's the point? Eventually one gets spent on an issue and just gives up. Complaining day in and day out is no way to live a life, and with the changes in management all the time it becomes futile. I'm praying to find another place to live in and it's a shame. Unfortunately people today are so selfish that they have no empathy for there neighbors. I personally like this building but if you're looking for quite enjoyment in your home you will not find it here, you are better off sleeping on the park bench outside then staying here. If you do enjoy living with noise of all kinds then this is the place for you, but if you live somewhere currently that is nice and peaceful then there's no reason to move into this building because you will suffer here. I wish I've known that before hand. read more

I moved in fall of 2012 and must say I have never heard of a building where you get mail delivered but unless it's in the leasee's name then the front desk will send it back to the sender without even telling you. I find this to now only be an invasion on my rights as a US citizen but also illegal. This means that if your girlfriend stay with you for a few moths and has any packages delivered it must have only her boyfriends name. The only way around it is if she pays a whopping 300.00 bucks to add her name to the lease. Now what does that huge fee cover them doing? NOTHING. They also will charge you an additional 25.00 to run a background check. Why not use the 300.00 for that? A complete ripoff. As for the gym here, the steam room is half the time on the fritz and not working, the tennis courts are constantly windy, and the terrace on the 30th floor cannot have chairs so all you get to do is go up there and look and stand like an idiot. NO sitting. So for around 36,000 a year you dot get much if you ask me. appiances are loud at night, and the heat and air are not included, time warner sucks in the buiilding.
