    Cleaning this costed me $400.

This is a good apartment community, but the management was unhelpful throughout my stay. The rent did not seem worth the place. I stayed here for 2 years and realized early that the management doesn't care for the residents. Elevators are broken around twice a month, and complaints about them are ignored. Emergency numbers only redirect you to an answering machine and you'll get no help if you're locked out. (This happened to my neighbor because they changed the door lock batteries). If you want to live here, you should read the lease very carefully and be prepared to lose your deposit and get over-charged during move out. They charged me $350 for cleaning for a little bit of dust left behind because it "didn't meet their standards". Also be warned - they intentionally use bad math to over charge each time when you move-in, renew lease and move-out in a month with 31 days by pro-rating the rent by 30 instead of 31. This place would have been okay were it not for the scummy management. Edit: I'm adding one star because Riverview management reached out and made some efforts to correct the bad move out experience. They refused to correct the extra day of rent charges, but reduced 50% off the $350 in cleaning fees as a "one time exception".

I have been living in this apartment complex for 5 years, and my experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. The maintenance here is abysmal, with leaky pipes being a constant issue in the common hallway areas. Despite multiple complaints to management for over a year, nothing has been done to fix the problem. To make matters worse, there is a giant cut hole in front of my apartment door ceiling that has been there for months. There is also another one down the hall. This not only looks unsightly but also poses a safety hazard. When the holes in the ceiling were cut out, we were never notified about it and were tarped in. I was unable to enjoy a walk with my baby in her stroller because there was a giant tarp placed in front of our door and we couldn't walk through. So when I did leave to run errands, I had to go around the tarp and the men working on the ceiling were wearing hazmat suits which was very concerning for me as a resident to walk through. There were also nails on the floor when I was walking by in sandals. To "catch" the water, they've taped plastic to let water flow into giant trash bins. In addition, the trash bin is placed in front of the exit staircase - this is obviously a huge safety hazard! To add to this, the carpet is moldy from the leaking water - another hazard. Despite repeated requests for repair, the management has been nothing but negligent of the issues - constant responses that they're waiting for the weather to get better or "we're sending our vendors to fix it this week". Adding insult to injury, the rent here is exorbitant. For the amount of money I am paying, I expect at least basic maintenance and a livable environment. However, that is clearly too much to ask for from this management. In conclusion, I would strongly advise against renting from this apartment complex. Irvine Company prides itself for being the best-in-class real estate, yet management is otherwise up-to par. The combination of leaky pipes, a giant hole in the ceiling, and unresponsive management makes this place a complete nightmare to live in. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere for your next home.

    Cut chain, stolen bike
    Baris D.

Beware, your belongings are not safe in this apartment. Our car was broken into twice. Our bike is stolen from the bike room. And multiple bikes are stolen. Other neighbors are also frustrated too. The packages from your door step gets stolen as well. The management does not do anything to improve the situation. They can't even find the video footage. Thieves can come and go as they please, stealing residents' packages. They even select the items they like and leave the rest. About the bikes, the locks that have been cut are very strong (one of them was Kryptonite Evolution 1016 10mm). It means that thieves had plenty of time to cut them. It gives a sense of the quality of the security in this apartment. I like the maintenance staff, I gave two stars for their sake.

Their response to my original request for a rent adjustment because I did not have running water for two incidences in a month
    Andrew H.

I have been living here for almost a year now, and have mostly been satisfied with the community. However, I am deeply disappointed in how management is handling leaving my entire building without running water (means no toilet flushing, showers, washing hands in a pandemic), and drinking water. Having running water is a basic requirement of a habitable dwelling and I asked for management to prorate me back for the 3 days I was not with water in a little more than 1 month over two incidences of them shutting off water for my whole building. As you can see, enough people were complaining about not having the basic need met of having a working toilet/shower, so they tried to open up a communal bathroom/shower in another building but even failed to get those unlocked in a timely manner. I not only did NOT get a rent abatement for those days I could not properly live in my own home, but ALSO was not given a proper explanation as to why. Management's response was incredibly cold and callous, and did not make me feel they care about me other residents here. I personally would not live here knowing that management may not care about you, or take responsibility by saying it is "out of their control" when in fact upkeeping their property and plumbing is 100% their responsibility so things like what happened to me and my fellow residents don't happen.

I wish I could write a better review but I'm so disappointed by what was previously a great place to rent. The buildings are quite dated and the updates that have been made are of the cheapest quality. The old carpeting in the buildings was replaced last year...we all thought what had been placed was the liner and the installation people would be returning to lay the actual carpet. No...the carpet is just that thin and it causes sound to reverberate through the halls. The vinyl flooring in some units is cheap quality and poorly installed, so that it's constantly lifting. They continue to permit cigarette smoking on patios and balconies, and public areas around the site, which means there's smoke coming in through the windows, patio/balcony doors, and vents, regardless of whether you smoke. The complex spent three years and a lot of money to update the property, with the pool and hot tub, bbq area, and clubhouse were all unavailable during this time. The big reveal after all the work reflected that the only thing changed for residents was a nicer bbq area. The pool and hot tub, and all the chaises, tables, and umbrellas are the same that have been there since my initial residency. The clubhouse, which is only open during the management's working hours (unless reserved for a private event), is gorgeous but the main change is a remodel of the office space. The management and facilities staff are the only people who use the "clubhouse," and in great part due to the hours it's accessible as well as the fact that whenever someone goes in there, it feels as if you're interrupting the office staff having their breaks, hanging out and snacking, etc. All the parking spots were redesignated this past year as "assigned" spots, in a clear attempt to increase income for the management company. Residents must pay an additional fee monthly to reserve a spot, covered or not, and there are virtually no unassigned spots for additional resident cars or guests. The office staff regularly "patrol" the parking area for parkers who aren't "registered" and when discovering someone, send an email blast to the entire community calling out the car's identifying details and threatening to have the vehicle towed within a certain number of minutes if it's not moved. During weekends, the Springwood staff tend to park in the spots reserved for "new residents." Management sends email frequently admonishing residents that they've "been told" they cannot have anything on their balconies/patios, hallways, lobbies, etc. as if the residents are young children. I don't like when people break rules meant to ensure people's enjoyment of their rented home either, but there's a way to do this respectfully and a way to make people feel bad. When there are problems with the laundry room machines, the office staff will not assist. The response is that they haven't been trained on how to use the equipment or its software and residents have to contact the vendor (which never seems to result in a response). A dryer has been non-functional for months but despite numerous requests, the management staff have done nothing to ensure that it's repaired or replaced. With only 4 washers and 4 dryers per building, having one out of order creates a difficult situation for residents trying to do their laundry. On the plus side, the maintenance staff are without exception friendly and responsive. The apartments are in a great location and the people living there are generally quite nice, but there are few amenities and the management staff sometimes make residents feel like interlopers.

Most of the apartments I found in San Jose are newer (which is fine!), but I wanted something with a more loft-y, artsy vibe to it. Twohy doesn't disappoint. The walls are super thick, too; I never heard my neighbors...only sounds from the street outside. Also, bonus: it's a small community, and management is very attentive and responsive. Everyone I ever met there was friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic. So much to walk to. Safeway's right there for groceries, plus tons of bars and food in all price ranges (from cheap mexican to expensive steakhouses) it's all right there! You also have a movie theater right next door and MUJI across the street, not to mention VTA literally right outside your front door. Amenity-wise, included in rent was a parking spot in the Safeway parking lot (not a guaranteed spot, but I never had to park on the street even during the busy Christmas season), a gym membership at the gym across the street, and water/sewage/garbage. There are no laundry hookups in-unit, but there is a laundry room in the basement which is nice. The units have a small but lovely kitchen with decent appliances and nice fixtures in the bathroom, wood floors (YAY), tall ceilings, and huge windows which means lots of light. It's not a huge space, but then again I didn't need much space, and preferred to live in a great area of town vs having a ton of room. Overall I adored living there. If my job hadn't taken me up to the north end of the bay, I wouldn't have left! I highly recommend Twohy to those looking for a unique space in downtown San Jose.

Another drawback is the TV situation. They are not wired for cable (comcast or ATT), dish network is available but wasnt wired down passed the 4th floor... and direcTV is available but NOT in HD...good grief! The rent is not cheap, i think the cheapest (when I moved in) was around $1280 and I believe that was with some discounts for a 12 month lease. Meadows is very safe and it's also in a good location - it is right off of Central expressway and it's close to 237 and 101. Apartment was spacious as well. The management company was very responsive with service requests. We had an issue where the central AC was spewing out dead bugs so the maintenance team quickly came in and gave us a new AC. Meadows also hosts some events every couple months (coffee station, Easter egg hunt, food trucks, etc.) which made the apartment complex feel more like a community. One of the drawbacks about this complex is the lack of natural light in the some of the apartments. Because of all the tall redwood trees and the direction of our apartment, we didn't get much light. For the most part, we had our lamps turned on all the time. And because of the trees, leaves would fall into our balcony so we had to frequently clean that up. We decided to leave once the lease was up as we found a place with more natural light closer to our offices and meadows was going to increase the rent by $250 a month. If it wasn't for the light situation, probably would have continued to stay here. Overall I enjoyed living here, and if you are ok with less natural light or you are able to get an apartment facing the right direction, then I recommend!
