They handled everything perfectly, ensuring our project met all California Title 24 compliance standards. When the building inspector came out, the final sign-off was completely seamless. At closing, they handed me a thorough, pre-filled packet making my manufacturer warranty registration incredibly easy. What really touched my heart and showed the true integrity of the owner happened during construction. Cesar noticed some debris had blown into my neighbor's backyard while working on my property. He went next door himself, informed the neighbors, and personally cleaned up their backyard. That level of respect and honesty is hard to find! I highly recommend them. They are professional, responsive, and full of integrity and they added Value to the property. Thank you again for a great roof!

I called California Roof Depot and Cesar came right out and gave us an estimate for the repair and also for the whole roof if we wanted to replace it. We would recommend California Roof Depot to everyone and will be using them in the future.

Communication was excellent throughout the project--they kept us informed, answered all of our questions, and addressed every concern promptly. The crew was punctual every day and did an outstanding job cleaning up the worksite before leaving. Their attention to detail was especially impressive when repairing several areas of dry rot. The repairs were done with great care, and they even repainted the repaired areas so everything looked finished and seamless. The project passed all inspections, and the final cost matched the original estimate, even with some challenging dry rot repairs. It's clear they take pride in the quality of their work, and the entire process was smooth and stress-free. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for an honest, reliable, and professional roofing company.

I wanted to use my previous roofer who did the other half but he went completely dark on me, so I found 5 Star Roofing. Before the job: Michael came out quickly to provide the bid which was competitive and clearly explained the process. He was able to schedule me in quicker than the competition and provided excellent communication before the work started. During the job: His team arrived on time each day, did excellent work, and were even able to match the color of the other half of the roof exactly. Each day, Michael came by to check on the work and answer my questions. Jenn, the office/project manager emailed each day as well. The crew cleaned up after themselves and made minimal disturbance while they worked. Josh even came out the next week to do some additional work we requested. Final results: We could not be happier. The work looks great and seamlessly matches the other half. Alas, on the scheduled day and time, nobody showed up, and nobody contacted me. I called the office, and Jada said my job was not on their calendar. After she gave me multiple excuses for why Brian failed to show up "for my estimate", it was clear that they had scheduled another estimate and not the actual repair work, and then they didn't even show up for that. I would not recommend using this company.

The crew worked fast, responsibly, and left the area clean. Miguel maintained clear communication with us at every step and was patient as we navigated our insurance process. He showed us various color samples, and we opted for charcoal, which looks fantastic on our roof! Additionally, we had solar fans installed for improved ventilation and gutter guards to reduce clogs. The search was on for a company. (Spoiler alert: We chose Harlan Quality Home Services and are very happy we did.) We decided to get bids from 4 companies that were highly rated. 1. "A"--they had tried to repair our old unit so thought we'd try them for a replacement. They came out to give an estimate. Said they'd send a bid to us and we never heard from them again. 2. "F" Family---Submitted a bid (approx $17K--for a unit actually too big for our house) which we had some questions about. Called the office to get clarification and they were rude saying we had misunderstood, even though we questioned the salesman multiple time. Also, they wanted to install extra unneeded items. 3. "A" man--Gave bid while here (almost $25K but with "discounts" it was lowered to $19K+). Offered another $500 discount if we had it installed in 2 days and bid was only good for 3 days. Fast talking and pushy. Wanted to install a 2nd return in our living room rather than enlarge the one in the hall. Again included things not needed and unit too big for our house. Also, all their units are their "brand" with their name on them rather than the manufacturer so who knows what you're getting. 4. "R's"--Offered 3 different brands, ranging in price from $16K+ to $18K+....again units too big for us. Other than that they sounded like they knew what they were doing. We had almost decided to go with "R" when we saw on Nextdoor about Harlan Quality Home Services ---a BIG thank you to whoever posted that. Harlan had replaced our roof last year and we were very happy with them and didn't realize they did HVAC as well. (Apparently they had just started offering HVAC services when the brother Marshal decided to "merge" his business with his brother James.) Called Harlan and Marshal came out to give an estimate. Listened to what we wanted, patiently answered all our questions and said he'd send us a bid. He also said he'd send the crane company out to make sure they could get the unit on the roof because of our large trees. All other companies just looked at trees and said oh no problem. Turns out we had to get our trees trimmed for the crane to work so if we'd gone with the other companies, when the crane showed up they would not have been able to reach our roof. We received Harlan's bid (almost $14K) promptly for a unit the correct size for our home. They didn't include any unnecessary items but just everything needed: permits, crane, enlarge intake, etc. Plus they would install a unit that would fit our existing curb so it didn't have to be modified. Not only was Harlan's bid what we wanted and having been very satisfied doing business with the company in the past, we accepted their bid. They were great about setting up an installation date that was convenient for us. On that day, our new unit was delivered early and Marshal and his assistant, Juan, began work. They were amazing. Everything went so smoothly and quickly with Marshal concentrating on the roof and Juan concentrating on the work in the house. Everything went like clockwork. They disconnected the old unit and the crane showed up to remove it and set the new unit on the roof. Recycler came to pickup old unit and assorted debris. They reconnected everything, tested it and Title 24 inspector came and did his test. Everything completed (except for county inspection) in approximately 1/2 a day. After they finished they cleaned the areas---inside (where they had cut sheetrock) and out so you couldn't even tell they had been here, except for all the new stuff. If we have one complaint it's that they are too efficient and hardworking. We wanted to save a couple of small things but they disappeared on the recycling truck before we knew it. Our fault for not asking ahead of time. We can't rave enough about the Harlan company for both roofing and HVAC. Everyone at the company is so polite and friendly no matter how many annoying questions you ask. They are very experienced, and do exceptional work; very quickly with no drama, wasted effort and minimal noise. And all this at the lowest price of all the bids we received. Harlan Quality Services is definitely Number 1 in our opinion and we highly recommend them for any roofing or HVAC needs. What a stroke of luck for us discovering they do HVAC right when we needed someone.

Shortly after completion, we experienced a significant leak near the chimney during a controlled water test. We repeatedly asked for photo/video documentation of the original water testing and requested a controlled retest after additional sealant was applied to the flashing and chimney areas. This was never provided. Because sealant was added after the initial test, it became impossible to determine how the flashing system performed in its original installed condition. Despite our requests for a documented and isolated testing process, the issue was attributed solely to stucco and chase cap conditions without verification of the flashing work included in our contract. Communication became increasingly dismissive when we asked reasonable, technical questions about how the leak source was isolated and verified, and the matter was pushed toward final inspection without the testing we requested. We also had concerns about billing transparency during dry rot repairs. We had to repeatedly request documentation showing where repairs were made, how many hours were spent on new work versus items already included in the original contract, and how labor time was calculated (including delivery and travel time billed at the same rate as on-site repair work). The initial invoices and explanations were vague, and only after multiple follow-ups did we receive partial clarification and a small credit for duplicated labor hours. While the company was responsive in replying to emails, we were left to identify gaps in documentation, testing, and billing ourselves rather than being provided clear, proactive transparency. Based on our experience, we strongly recommend that future customers insist on detailed documentation, clear labor breakdowns, and controlled verification testing when leak diagnosis or change-order billing is involved.
