The cafe is at a great location of riverfront. The interior is nice and clean featuring cute artwork by local artist. The selection of pastries that they have is quite big, but we were expecting to be better in taste for the price, even though the size is pretty alright. Coffee was a bit of a miss, it was a bit tasteless for La Colombe brand. A lot of potential, we hope that it will improve. read more

I I am editing this review. The small fruit and cream pastries were delicious. Also I added two stars I have wanted to love this bakery since it opened. It went to new ownership and I was hopeful. The croissants are not like the ones I have had that I would give 5 stars to. They are missing that texture that combines crispness with taste. I want to love the pies, puddings, cookies but they are average. I went this morning. I had a recent injury and so walking is a bit of a challenge I walked in. Only person at that point looking at choices, one person checking out Two woman behind counter chatting with each other. Never even turned around. Poor guy checking a woman out had to make coffee. They just kept chatting. I wanted to leave but my sister is coming over and I needed a treat. Anyway one of the woman turned around Babbled at me quickly and I did not know what she said. She finally understand I knew what I wanted. By that point there were six people behind me. Since day one even with previous owners service was poor. If the bakery items were exceptional I would wait but won't be back anytime soon. It is my hope that some delightful baker living in Wilmington will read this, buy it and turn it into something spectacular. Like Chefs Haven in Hockessin or a few others ... or someone from Paris. read more

This was part of a weekend getaway. Ending with brunch here. The sit-down dining was available and it was quite empty when we came but almost full when we left Tea was quite good. Coffee was also good Ham and cheese sandwich was Quiche with salmon was the excellent. Their pastries did not look great from the window. We did not try them however Parking is on the street. And easy to find and free. Services great. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you if you do sit down and dine. Overall if I was in the area I would definitely check out this place. read more

It looked like an interesting place to stop for coffee and a pastry. However, even on a slow Sunday morning around 9:30, it wasn't the best choice. It took a long time standing at the counter (there was only one other person in the restaurant) to even get acknowledged. Ordered a tea, a coffee, a bread pudding and a cheese danish. I asked the woman who brought the items to the table if it was a cheese danish (didn't look like it, even though it was the one from the case denoting it as a cheese danish). I cut it in half and there was only a smear of some kind of a red jam, no cheese. Returned it to the counter and swapped for a chocolate croissant, which was only OK...pretty skimpy on the chocolate. The bread pudding evidently was good. The guy at the counter was at least apologetic. Not much personality from anyone. Other tables with dishes left on them were never cleared while we were there (you're supposed to bus your own, but it's not clear unless you go to that area for napkins). Not likely to go back. Sorry no pics, but didn't seem worthwhile. And riverfront? Maybe with binoculars. read more

I'm going to paraphrase the 90s movie Clueless by saying "She's like a faux Monet. Looks good from far away, but close-up, it's a mess". All the pastries look very nice, but upon eating, they are a hot mess. The croissants were stale, the chicken salad was bland and not seasoned and their borscht just tasted like water. When I went in on a Saturday afternoon, there was a party of 6 people being obnoxiously loud in a mostly empty storefront. I was literally elbowed out of the way while waiting to order in favor if this group. I stood at the register for at least 5-8 min while the cashier decided yo go chat with the baker in the kitchen, go wipe a single table, fiddle with the stuff behind the counter. No one else was waiting, I was just ignored. So bad customer service and stale food. Won't be back. read more

Underrated. I'm always shocked whenever people that live in Wilmington have not heard of RB. Their pastries look too beautiful to be true when it comes to flavor (we all know that feeling of biting into a beautiful pastry, only to be totally disappointed in the flavor and quality). Not here! They are just as beautiful as they are delicious. And can we talk about the much needed modern, upscale, clean, bright, aesthetic space they have brought to Wilmington?! Just gorgeous! If I had to recommend anything to start with, it would be a regular croissant + a chocolate croissant. The layers... flakyness... buttery taste... omg. And it is just so obvious they are made fresh! Their cruffins as well as the cheese danishes are in the running for our favorites, too. Grab a coffee. Try a few pastries. And enjoy walking along the riverfront after. Stopped by for a quick bite on our way to the Children's museum. Area was clean and well spaced. The service was great - very kind and helpful. Ordered ham and Gruyère cheese croissant and the quiche Lorraine, a coffee, and a cinnamon roll to go. I loved the croissant sandwich, would definitely get it again. Quiche was awesome as well. The rosemary was a little strong so my kids didn't eat it, and the ham was diced a little big but overall it was very tasty. They serve La Combe coffee and it was the best cup I've had in a while. We went at 11:15 on a weekday so it wasn't very busy. It's across from constitution yards beer garden so we are outside there and let the kids run around. I got the ham and cheese and my coworkers got the chicken sandwich. The pastries looked amazing so I just had to get the blueberry scone. My sandwich was good as the croissant was crunchy and warm. The ham was a bit too salty for my liking but I did enjoy the sandwich. The scone was the BEST thing ever! The texture was so good and it was not too sugary which I love. It also had a decent amount of blueberries which is always a plus. The service could definitely improve though as they couldn't get our orders correctly. read more

I keep looking for the elusive perfect traditional croissant and it remain elusive except for one place that is way too far for a weekly jaunt. In any case, I did try Riverfront's plain and chocolate croissants to see if they come close. Sad to say, they don't. Yes they are airy but I would not call them flaky. The dough itself is very eggy and almost has the texture of a popover. However, I also got the chouquette and this was a very tasty pastry with a cream that was not quite whipped cream nor patisserie cream but something in between. I would order this again. So this gets a 5, the croissants a 3. Overall, food 4 stars. I can see where parking might be challenging here but I was lucky to get a spot out front. read more

This bakery is amazing! It only got 4 stars because their hours are awful (8-3) and their exteriors lacks a call to action- there's nothing from the outside that pulls you in. IMO, it should be open earlier to catch the morning crowd heading to work (have you seen how busy Starbucks is at 7a.m.?)- many mornings I'd love a delicious croissant but they're not open. Not to mention getting a dessert to take home after work or a coffee and sweet treat after dinner or movies- you can't- they're closed. I passed by for a long time before stopping in because I didn't have a need for cakes or cookies. But this is far from a typical American bakery. Looking at the bakery from the front, you'd never know it's a European bakery. There's just a black awning that says "Riverfront Bakery", no personality to it. You have to go straight up to the window and peer in to have any idea what deliciousness lies within. They have an assortment of goodies that include freshly made crepes, quiche, scones, croissants and so much more! I tried the chicken salad and it was very fresh but sadly lacked any flavor. It tasted like chicken & mayonnaise and that's it. However, everything else that I've tried is wonderful. They have a small sign across the street from Starbucks that tells more about the place than looking at it from the outside. The folks that own it aren't very friendly or personable either, but their treats make up for it. If you can catch the place open, it's worth stopping in. read more

Wow this place is so good! Riverfront bakery reminds me of a quaint little European bakery with fresh baked goodies. Their pastries are so good and their coffee is fantastic. There's lots of options to choose from, so ask the staff what their favorites are. They're super helpful and have great suggestions! If you go (which you should) get the spinach and feta turnover! We stopped here after a doctors appointment for our son at Nemours because the pastries looked delicious. We got coffee and a cinnamon roll and then a couple quickest to go. The coffee was fine but the cinnamon roll was very dry. The lady working there asked how it was an I was honest and she was SO incredibly nice! She brought us a second one which was made just recently. It was much better but still not great unfortunately. I was struck by how kind this was though. So 5 stars for her!!! Stopped in a couple times. 1st time I walked in and realized quickly from the menu that it's not your typical American "bakery", so i walked out empty handed feeling a tad intimidated. 2nd time i walked in i was able to try a cold mocha coffee or something like that and it was delicious! 3rd time I came back with my father for breakfast. We both had small coffees and decided to split the sun-dried tomato quiche. Coffee was just WOW good. My dad will never think to get a large actually said he easily could have downed a large it was that good. I agree! The quiche was so delicate in flavor and texture... i want it again! Just went here for the first time and I love the simplistic and clean aesthetic of this quaint cafe. I think it's a phenomenal addition to the riverfront. On my first trip, I bought a regular croissant, a chocolate croissant and a sugar brioche. As you can see in the pictures, the croissants were under baked and did not turn out flaky as a well done croissant should. The middle was gooey (not in a good way) and when I cut into the chocolate croissant, it fell flat. It was really disappointing because the ladies making the pastries looked super professional. Otherwise, I think the flavors were spot on. I am optimistic that this place will improve on quality as time goes on. read more

I've come here 3 or 4 times now and I'm less impressed each time and probably won't return. I was excited to try their crepes the first time and they didn't have them that day but everything we ended up getting was good. The next time, my son ordered a crepe and my husband and I got quiche and pastries. The crepe took a very long time to come out and was sooo thick. My young son liked it but I did not. I like a traditionally thin crepe. I went again this morning and picked up a variety of pastries. Two slices of cake, two macaroons, a chocolate cannoli, cheese danish, slice of bread pudding, cheese brioche, a butter croissant & a slice of chocolate roll. Plus two draft lattes, it was $60 total and while that's more than I wanted to spend.. if everything was really good I would consider it worth while. Unfortunately, most of what we've ate so far has been very disappointing. The danish had almost no cream cheese in it, very dry. Cheese brioche was slightly dry and was tasty but didn't have much cheese either. Chocolate roll was extremely dry and tasted like chocolate powder. Bread pudding tasted like a cruller donut which was odd. Also, the packaging of everything just made no sense. They packaged two macaroons and a cannoli together in a cake slice container yet put a slice of chocolate cake in with the rest of the pastries, causing the icing to come off onto the lid of the box + chocolate frosting to transfer onto the other pastries. My 7 year old did enjoy his croissant, macaroons and cannoli. Our La Colombe draft lattes tasted good but never seem as frothy as they are at the La Colombe cafes. I also had ordered caramel in our lattes but couldn't taste that at all. Later on we'll try the slices of cake for dessert but it's too late for redemption at this point. I'm giving two stars because the staff has been kind, the bakery is clean and the presentation of everything is well done. But honestly I'd rather walk out of a messy bakery, where someone was unfriendly, with really tasty baked goods. read more

The manager and workers are very nice. I like the music they play. I like the coffee, the cookies, and the baklava.

I went to the Riverfront Bakery during Covid and at that time the offerings were understandly sparse. So I was eager to return which I did recently I had a peanut butter cookie that was harder than concrete. The server said they were baked "yesterday" The offerings are small and overpriced but more important, when I asked for some of the offerings on the plaque erected on the wall she said that is an old menu we do not have any of that stuff I will not be visiting again read more
