Small Door is owned by people whose interest is the bottom line. I hesitated to bring my dog there when we moved back to the United States after many years living overseas. I needn't have worried. The entire staff goes out if its way to relieve Scooter's anxiety about visiting the doggy doctor. Our vet, Dr. Bourjaily, asks the right questions, listens to our concerns, and takes time to observe our dog. Other staff are equally friendly and make veterinary visits pleasurable rather than stressful (and sometimes a little smelly.). Did I mention that SD doesn't have any of the telltale vet smells which add to my anxiety, let alone my dog's?

My dog LOVES small door vet!! We live right around the corner and every time we walk passed he just stands outside waiting to go in and get all the love from the vets and the front desk ladies!! The first time I went in to Small Door vet was because my dog was having a weird head tremor and I was very nervous. I didn't have a membership but they fit me in anyway, they saw me immediately and I signed up for the membership that day! Since then I have utilized their online service, but I've gone in to provide updated vaccine records from his previous vet (out of state) and they always remember him and give my pup treats and love! Thanks SM!

I am completely obsessed with Small Door Vet and so so happy to have them in the neighborhood! As a recent transplant from Chicago, I've quickly realized that vet care in NYC is just different. And with any new city, it can be hard to find your new go to places. But my dog is my family, and after a couple misses, I am so glad to have found a place that will treat her like family too. Small Door is membership based; it's under $100/year to join and it's honestly been some of the best money spent since moving here! At no extra charge, you get 24/7 messaging with the team, and I've already tapped into that feature once with a late-night medicine scare. They were so quick to respond and guide and support me in seeking emergency care. And at each visit in person, they've been just as attentive and caring whether for a full-on vet visit (the most thorough I've ever seen in my dog's six years with me) or our monthly technician appointments. It's just icing on the cake that their offices are impeccably decorated, with free treats/drinks for humans and dogs alike. I feel so lucky to call Small Door our primary vet and have already recommended them to all of my friends! Bonus: they're opening up several new locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn very soon!

The best vets! My dog actually enjoys going to the vet, and will pull me there every time we walk by. Dr Bourjaily and Dr Simonin have gone out of their way to call me and check on my dog after he went through some mysterious seizures and had to be admitted to the hospital.

The care and concern given to pets and owners. The staff were very professional but one gets the feeling the vets are upselling services.

They got my boy in for an appointment quickly, treated him gently (he is wildly anxious in the best of circumstances), and they treated me gently, too (also wildly anxious in the best of circumstances). They were clear, communicative, and Dr. Macri ensured I fully understood what was happening with my little friend and what next steps were. A week later, Gomez is back to normal. I know what to watch for, and if (god forbid) anything else happens, I'll be heading back to MHPH with full confidence my dog will be treated with kindness, compassion, and the best veterinary care available. Thank you to the doc and the entire staff. We are so lucky to have you!

Shout out to Joan at the front desk as well, she always makes the wait in the waiting room less stressful.

Dr. Dougherty and his team are seriously the best. If you have any type of cat, sphynx, regular cat, whatever, I highly recommend you take them here. They have a love for cats and their care for them shines through. Their office is beautiful and well run, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable and their bedside manner is second to none. Dr. Dougherty let me dump my anxiety on him and talked me through every one of my concerns, in layman's terms that also came with a huge amount of confidence. He was not trigger happy to run any tests and really gave me the pros and cons of every test and was completely upfront with pricing. When it came time for the dreaded rabies vaccination, not one of my (admittedly, very easy going) cats even flinched. I have a Sphynx breed and for some reason other vets seem to hem and haw at what he's dealing with, Dr. Dougherty didn't bat an eye and seemed to be able to communicate with Morrie on a feline level. I am truly blessed to have Dr. Dougherty and his team in my cat's corner, because I know with them, my cats will always have the best medical care. On a slightly irrelevant note (but to me equally as important), Dr. Dougherty treats his coworkers and techs with such respect and kindness, I was truly inspired.

Just the best vet I've ever been to, and I've had cats for (eek) 35 years!…read more I recently had to have my 16-year-old, very sick cat euthanized suddenly, and my regular (big chain) vet service told me I'd have to wait for hours and hours before they could see me (and also that they'd have to charge me an "emergency appointment fee," ugh). So I called Midtown, and Dr. Suchanek let me come in immediately. And he could not have been lovelier -- let me sit and cuddle Mouse for the last time before the procedure, gave me as much time as I needed with him, then was so incredibly kind afterward... And his prices are shockingly reasonable, especially for Manhattan! Since then I've taken my younger cat in as well, and the doc has been really calm and thorough -- I've never felt rushed -- and he even called several times after, to check on how Scamp was doing. Also, it may seem like a small thing, but the office is clean, pretty, and peaceful. And even when I was terribly upset, the staff was super nice and patient. I've been to several other vets (and, lately, chains) in my decades of being a pet owner, and this is the first time I've wanted to write a review, because I'm just so grateful to have found them!

Called this place after doing an extensive search for a decently rated pet ER (not many around me). I am so thankful there is at least one, and they're open 'round the clock. Was placed in an examination room and was seen fairly quickly by a tech for vitals, followed by the vet (I swear I tried so hard to remember her name to give her a personal shout out but stress took away my memory). She was awesome. Thorough and caring. While nothing appeared to be an evident emergency, my cat was clearly suffering from something hurting him. Recommended course of action seemed slightly excessive, but this vet truly stepped up to help me out. I consented to an xray, which indicated constipation. Treatment included sub-q hydration, anti-nausea medication, and a laxative. Cat had never been poked and prodded so much in his life. But he was such a good boy, and thankfully never bit or scratched- just growled and hissed. I would have too, little buddy!! I truly, sincerely appreciate knowing my boy doesn't have any bowel obstruction or anything worse. Great relief that we'll manage with the laxative and hopefully he'll be good as new. Thank you to the Vet Tech and the assistant who were both so helpful and supportive (and whose names I also forgot). Great team. I really, really love that every staff member called my boy "friend" and treated him like their own.
