Great location! Had the river view room. Large, spacious room. Very nice, spotless, modern. Perfect! Our boxes were checked on this one. Improvements needed to make it a 5 star: Staff was friendly but did not fit the environment. Most were awkward, shy and unfamiliar with their role. Step up the staff! Get some hospitality! It took forever to check in, with 3 counters and only 2 people ahead of us. Odd. Restaurant was good. Prices were high, but we enjoyed the pork shank and NY steak dinners. Get some bigger wines to go with those dishes. I wish we could have stayed another night to check out the trails and pools. Next time. We'll be back! read more

I'd been looking forward to staying here for years! Seemed like such a great spot on the river and their website was so well done... Would've been a 2 star if I'd gotten some sort of apology and if the lobby wasn't so nice. They definitely should have invested some of the money they used on the lobby/restaurant in the rooms. My room was a very nice size, but really needed a facelift. The bathroom smelled SO bad. At first glance, it looked clean, but smelled like there was urine just seeped into the walls and floors. Upon looking further (and not very in depth) I could see the bathtub needed a good scrubbing, and there was hair I wasn't convinced was mine. In each of the corners on the floor there were little piles of dirt and hair. The shelf under the sink was FILTHY. I called the front desk to see what could be done and about an hour later, someone delivered a bottle of cleaner.... The towels were highly abrasive. There were 4 each of drinking glasses and coffee mugs. Much to my dismay, I realized after using one that the rest were disgusting. There was a sticky substance dripping down the sides of almost all. The one redeeming thing was that the sheets *looked* clean. I used the workout room the next day and liked it a lot. The walking bridge over the river was a nice touch. While in my room, I get a knock on the door. The maintenance person says he's there to collect one of my chairs from the balcony because I have too many.... I had 2. I informed him if that and he said there must have been some mistake on their end and he left. Not a big deal. Was this fault, but could've been avoided with communication on their end of things. A couple hours later, I'm getting ready... I'm not dressed. THANKFULLY I had just put the door stopped over the door. An employee BURST into the door. No knock. No announcement. I heard the key used then a forceful push into the door. If I hadn't put the door stopper.... Yeah. If I hadn't been there, would my stuff have been safe??? I definitely looked passed the first interruption, but the 2nd sent me over the edge. After I departed, I sent an email explaining the situation and received absolutely nothing in return. Not any sort of acknowledgment or apology. Not a great way to run a business. read more

I thought this place was 4 star but it's definitely not. Overpriced B&B in my opinion. Poor customer service and long waits. Understaffed. Rude workers. I booked it thinking there was indoor pool. Arrived and found out it's under maintainence - thanks for the heads up! Had to wait 2 hours to get my room. Restaurant only had 2 people waiting tables so it took an hour to get seated and another 45 min to get our food. It's surprising it took that long to prep our meals since our food tasted like it came out of a box. read more

First time to Bend and Central Oregon. Wonderful Hotel right on the Deschutes River. In fact, the hotel occupies both sides of the river. A foot bridge connects the two sections. Our room was overlooking the river. When the door is open the swiftly moving water fills the room with beautiful sound. The road is nearby but the cars cannot be heard over the sounds of the river. Large room is well appointed. The tv is a bit small but sufficient. Fairly large refrigerator. Restaurant is very good. Had breakfast and dinner twice. Definitely recommend this central Bend location. read more

This is an extremely overpriced literal motel with a couple of rooms having a view of the river. It took us over two hours to get mediocre expensive breakfast. They won't service your rooms. The nonsmoking rooms had remnants of cigarettes. I don't mind paying almost $500/night but definitely not for this. We had a solid experience - we booked a room which was not available upon our check-in and they responded professionally + very kindly. The result was some comps and us having to change rooms. 1st building was newer and overall slightly better - the upgrades were more recent. Worthy notes: rooms were big, bed is what you'd expect for a mid-range hotel in small town (aka just fine), both rooms had windows/balcony doors which opened and their own heat source (aka no shared air). Suggestions is for the building across the lodge/check-in and top floor. read more

Comfortable bed, beautiful spacious room with a balcony and great amenities such as being right near the river, 2 hot tubs and 2 pools, a game room and restaurant and bar all within feet of your room. The coffee makers need a little work as i had tried to make 2 cups and it only filled halfway and I had to ask for regular coffee several times which I hate to do because I don't want to be needy. We also tried to go to the hot tub twice in our visit and both times the water in the hot tub indoors was luke warm and the hot tub outside was always filled with screaming kids. We were also not very pleased with the restaurant. Overall, we had a good time staying for two nights and exploring hikes around the hotel. I recommend walking to the Tom Sawyer Park, just 2 miles from the hotel and has beautiful birds and cute chipmunks to look for while you are enjoying the scenery of the river. read more

The rooms are nice but... in the king suite there is an extra room with 2 chairs and a tv. It looks like a movie screening room but in actuality is silly. The room is clean overall and spacious. We went to eat at the restaurant and the service was extremely slow. When we got our food my husband was given tater tots instead of French fries. The fish and chips were very hot inside like they had been prepared in the microwave. My salad was drowned in too much dressing. The dinner was very disappointing. We ordered dessert that took so long to arrive that we cancelled and just asked for the bill. It took a long time for our food to arrive and when it did it was subpar. I would not recommend at all. The best thing the restaurant has going for it is the charming river that runs alongside. read more

We left a wallet in our room, which we realized once we got home. We called and spoke to someone, who said it had been found and would be sent to us no later than the next day. That was a week ago and it still hasn't been sent, and messages left for anyone other than the front desk go unreturned. While it's our fault for leaving the wallet, it is completely unacceptable that they would not ship it as promised and not return any calls. This lack of integrity will keep me from ever giving them my business again. read more

I was rather disappointed with them this trip. We arrived to check in at 3:15 and didn't get to our room until after 6:00 PM. Apparently they had a computer glitch, short on hotel maids, rather frustrating when a large group comes in 15 minutes after you & gets their rooms with minimal wait time. Had happy hour-beer was cold, Ceasur salad was warm. Food over-priced. The updated rooms are nice but the hallway carpets are horrid. Also, they are a little out of the way for restaurants. I enjoyed my stay here. The hotel is very close to the river and the outdoor restaurant seating is wonderful. During my four day stay the morning breakfast servers seemed to be quite understaffed. It was hit and miss as to how soon you were seated, served, and etc. The food however was very good. The hot tub in the indoor pool area wasn't heated at all and unfortunately the hotel bar closed at 11 on a Saturday night even though hotel guests were still coming in for service. read more

Really bad experience. Booked 3 nights (Thursday, check out Sunday) in a riverview king bed room. Called Wednesday afternoon and let them know we would not be arriving until Friday but I would pay for the Thursday booking. I was told they would put a note in the booking and we would be fine. When I arrived they had cancelled the entire reservation (made 3 months in advance). They gave us a king property facing (meaning looking at the pool). Terrible room but still $400 per night. Terrible room. Went to the bar one evening for dinner. Sat for 15 minutes and never got any service. The manager was there when I was complaining about the booking. Their solution was to give me 2 free breakfasts and a free horderve. The room we did get was no where near what we paid (it was clean but pretty much low end and the air conditioner didn't keep the room cool), I have had better at a third of the cost! That is my experience and I will never use this hotel again. read more

Stayed here 3/25-3/27 and it was clear upon check-in that the staff were completely overwhelmed and unprepared to be closer to full capacity. Check-in is at 4pm, but our room was not ready until 6pm for check-in due to cleaning service staff shortages. We weren't the only ones with these issues as the lobby had 3-4 other groups who were in the same boat. Once we were in our room (King Suite with a pullout couch) there was no bedding provided for the pullout couch and we were not provided any until 4 hours after initially calling. Mind you that was at 10pm, far later than our 7 year old's bed time. Additionally, they were unable to provide more than sheets for the pullout and they were out of pillows... Not that it really mattered as the hotel doesn't even provide more than what can only be described as a "Red Cross Emergency Blanket" on their regular beds with a sheet below and a sheet on top. Thankfully we had a blanket in our car, but if you spend $500+ for two nights in a suite, one should reasonably be able to expect that the hotel has basic bedding and a pillow for every guest. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful to the best of their ability, but it is abundantly clear that whoever owns this property doesn't expect to ever be close to full and has subsequently cut cost corners by not regularly keeping enough supplies on hand. Definitely will not be returning. read more

Two calls and voicemails and no return call. Still being charged double, for their error. If you enjoy being ignored when they make a significant mistake, then this is the place for you. I stayed here in April and the hotel was under renovation at the time. I was there for four days and in that time, the reception lobby moved from one building to the next. Inevitably, there was some renovation messiness but the staff more than made up for it. They were super friendly and responsive to my requests. I had a room overlooking the river and it was refreshing to wake up to the sounds of the water rushing over the rocks. The rooms were recently renovated and really nice! My room even had a fireplace and the staff made sure I had enough logs to keep it roaring until it was time for bed. The grounds were lovely, including a running path that runs parallel to the river. While I didn't get to try them (too busy with conference), both the indoor and outdoor pool looked well maintained and inviting. If you're there for business, it's an easy and pleasant walk to get over to the conference center via the underground pedway. The only downside is that I was not driving so I had to rely on cabs to get me downtown, which always seemed to take a really long time to get to the hotel. The hotel would do well to offer bicycle options into Bend to be more inviting to those who prefer two wheels as a mode of transportation. After all, it is Bend where bikes rule! read more

I had a great time staying here over July 4 weekend and would highly recommend it as a landing spot for any trip to Bend. Most importantly, the location of Riverhouse can't be beat. Right on Highway 97, walking distance to a bunch of really good restaurants and a short, quick drive into downtown Bend. As the name implies, the hotel is right next to the Deschutes River, and you can walk out of your room and be right on the riverbank. We experienced pretty great service, from check-in to checkout. The only hiccup was that room cleaning seemed inconsistent. One day we were in our room when housekeeping came by at 9:00 AM, so they couldn't clean the room at that time. We left a couple of hours later for the rest of the day, but housekeeping never came back to clean the room. It was no big deal, as they cleaned it the next day (and I'm sure we could have called if we needed anything), but just something to notice. I love that this hotel is dog-friendly. We had our dog with us and she had a great time. The hotel provides dog owners with some treats, a toy, and plenty of plastic bags to clean up dog poop. One small sour note is that I noticed that there were a ton of really, really bad dog owners staying here -- several loud dogs barking in their rooms, uncleaned dog poop everywhere (the hotel gives you bags AND has a dog poop cleaning station in the dog walking area -- how inconsiderate do you have to be not to clean up after your dog when they make it so easy?). I like dog-friendly, but I wish they were a little more bad-dog-owner-unfriendly. Some rule enforcement would be nice to ensure that the place stays clean and welcoming, and I don't have to worry about stepping in some other dog's poop when I'm trying to clean up after my own. My worry is that if the hotel continues to allow guests to abuse their dog-friendly policy by being inconsiderate dog owners, it will hurt their reputation and business enough that they might just eventually eliminate the dog-friendly rule entirely. And that would suck for dog owners that try to be considerate and polite for everyone else. The room itself was much larger than a normal hotel room and very nice. Recently renovated, "suite" style, plenty of space, and the air conditioning worked great. I would have liked to see beds that were maybe a little larger (these were full-size mattresses. Why not a queen or king?) and softer, and maybe a little more comfortable furniture. Otherwise, I really liked the room itself. Overall, would definitely come back and stay here again on my next trip to Bend, and would recommend to others as well. read more

First the cons, Construction of what I'm assuming will be an addition of their rooms. They did not have a coffee maker but instead a keurig which wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't the one that only holds enough water for ONE small cup, big inconvenience for dedicated coffee drinkers. Ha. Stairs. No elevator, at least not the building we were in. They must not look under the beds for when I did there was a wine cork that was not ours. Customer service could have been a bit better. No balcony lights on the top floor, at least not the red fox building. Small tub. There was a charging port to plug in two USB and three regular outlets. Convenient I thought until I plugged both of our iPhones into the USB spots and they started spazzing because it could not support them both. What makes it a great stay, The rooms themselves! Red fox building is the pet friendly ones, don't be discouraged they are fantastic! No sign of pets at all that says SO MUCH about their cleaning. Beautiful view. read more

Found this place via Yelp, as we decided Bend would be a good place to stop on our road trip. I was a little hesitant because of some reviews on here, but the photos looked great, and I liked the view of the river idea. We luckily booked a room when we were 30 miles from town, and I am so glad we did. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by every staff we came into contact with. Everyone was so pleasant and welcoming. The customer service was excellent from check-in to check-out. The rooms were nice, clean and spacious. We really enjoyed visiting on the back balcony, with the river passing by. It added to the very relaxing atmosphere. We would definitely come back to see more of what Bend has to offer, and would stay here again. I would absolutely recommend this place to any of my friends, and I am glad I didn't let a few bad reviews deter our stay. read more

Let's start with the good. The room was clean and the view was nice. But I am giving a 2 star review because the front desk people were horrible. The customer service was probably the most disrespectful people I've ever dealt with. My husband and I brought our dogs with us and paid extra to have them with us. They called us to say our dogs were too loud even tho they were sleeping and when my husband asked them if we had to leave would we be refunded for the room and night we wouldn't be there and the gal said "no it's our dogs fault so why would they refund us?" We paid about 250 a night after all the taxes and fees and pet fee. So in my opinion I shouldn't be treated like I was renting a motel 6. In fact I'm sure motel 6 probably has better customer service reps. Aside from that front desk gal we were woken up by loud on site construction at 6:50 am today. The toilet paper was thinner than truck stop toilet paper so bring your own. The room service food we ordered was wrong. The room next to us had an alarm clock that went off each night at midnight and when I called down to the front they said they would fix it but didn't. The final night they finally did do something about it. Lastly when I went to check out I had fully intended to advise them with how unhappy I was and how I wouldn't be coming back. But I didn't even get asked how my stay was or even a good bye. The conversation went like this. Me- Hi I'd like to check out. Her- Okay I can do that. 1 min later Her- would you like a receipt? Me- Yes I would. Hands me the receipt. Her- turns and walks away... Umm yeah if that's not rude I don't know what it. read more

Checked in Mother's Day weekend. Got to the room and found the most uncomfortable bed ever made. Went to complain, and they put a mattress topper on it that was little better. Upon check out, complained about hotel experience. They didn't offer any reduction in the bill (really?) but said they would comp me a night. OK. Waited a few months, but no comp in the mail. Phone called. Was promised a comp in the mail. Nothing. Finally responded to an email (one of many) touting the wonderful Riverhouse Hotel experience. Got an email right away offering a comp plus $50 in golf or food. Chose food. Comp came. Can't use long weekends, national holidays, three-day weekends or from May 24-September 25th. Just when CAN I use this? I have never experienced such poor customer service. Shoot, a friend of mine was having trouble with their TV at a Marriot and they took $50 off per night for the inconvenience. read more

Motor Lodge is more like it. -Dingy carpet with a ragged torn gap of about 1/2" by the sliding door -Dirty molding with giant dings and patches of paint missing -Intense smell of carpet fresh product in the room -lumpy blotchy walls in short, the room looked nothing like the bright and clean rooms on the website and the mountain lodge style entrance depicted on the site is misleading since it's an isolated feature. The room was dingy and rather shabby. We immediately checked out and the staff was not surprised by our reaction to the property. When we went to the welcome center looking for other lodging options, they related someone else was in earlier the same day with an identical experience. read more

We've stayed here before, with our dogs. And always been pleased. But this time we came w/out our dogs, so maybe I'm paying more attention to detail... Walking into the rooms, they are clean, large, and decently decorated. Split level, with micros fridge & freezers! AWESOME! But I have to say the smell is a little off (cig smoke?). And I have some allergies so this matters to me. Then there are the bathrooms...so odd. The counters are nice new marble, clean line modern faucets & sinks, big mirrors in the sink area. But when you get into the shower, you step back into the 1970's. Low water pressure, worn bath tub floors, bad tile work, and hard to balance hot & cold water. Burn me, freeze me, burn me, my 8 year old is screaming in the shower & I don't need this on vacation...etc etc... However, the pool is a huge bonus! Indoor, warm, big, and with a nice hot tub too! Plus they have an outdoor pool, which would be nice in the summer. And the river right outside the back door of our room is nice! Dear Riverhouse: It is time to remodel the showers and the replace the glass patio doors and replace the room front doors. What is up with NO extra lock on the top of the door. And an aluminum bar to lock the sliding glass doors? Then, this place will be a 4.5 or 5 star hotel. P.S. Better coffee and real 1/2 & 1/2 please. read more

A decent place to stay. Great customer service, clean room, nice beds. Their buffet for breakfast is back, including waffles, oatmeal, eggs, bacon, TONS of fresh fruit, yogurt, muffins, fried potatoes, cold cereal, juices, and coffee. Room included a welcome drink at the bar. It has that old school resort vibe, but no walking trail along the river. I actually liked staying at the Shilo next door a little better because of the easier access to the trails (and less traffic coming in and out). Shilo's breakfast is about the same, only that room was half the price of the Riverhouse! read more

The riverhouse is a family friendly vacation spot designed for outdoor fun -- it has great access to the winter / summer areas around bend. The hotel restaurant has some good quality grub, and the breakfast that is included was awesome. The restaurant has phenomenal views of the river and many of the rooms (the lucky ones) front on the river. As a business traveler who flew into town and was carless, it wasn't ideal. Riverhouse isn't located close to downtown Bend. It's a two mile walk. Many of their ground level rooms front on a parking lot. I requested a change, and they were kind enough to accommodate. The rooms were large, but could use updating. I imagine the river facing rooms were much nicer than my level 2 parking lot room. As a business traveler, I give 2 stars. As a family, I would give three due to the good food and spacious rooms. read more

The hotel is nicely renovated, but any business is only as strong as its weakest link. Apparently, that's the vital link of customer service. I left my memory foam pillow in our room so when we got home that evening I called the front desk to get it returned. They said they'd call back within two hours but did not. Same thing the next afternoon. And the day after. The next time, they put me through to housekeeping and I left a message on their answering machine with my number. Again, no call back. This is basic customer service. (And basic branding, from a marketing perspective.) If they cannot deal with this simple issue--by finding out who cleaned the room and asking that person as a king-size memory foam pillow in a brown pillowcase should be memorable--I put little faith in the Riverhouse staff to do their jobs properly at all. As a business, if you say you'll call back, you call back. And you always do your best for the customer. At the Riverhouse, that clearly isn't a priority. I'll update this review if anything good happens. I'm not holding my breath. UPDATE! Six months later and quite a few emails between me and a nice chap called Mike who has some sway at the RH, a check arrived for the pillow I had to buy to replace the lost one. Christmas miracles do come true! ;) I'll give them two more stars. I still got bacon on my custom veggie breakfast :'( May go back some day.... maybe. read more

Made reservation 1 month in advance, went to check in at 4:45 pm room wasn't clean. Check in is at 4:00 pm. How can they not have a room cleaned when they knew they had a reservation. My boyfriend stayed here as a kid and wanted to take me here. Sure enough, this place is just like it was when he was a kid, even right down to the 1980s decor. The rooms are very big and some have fireplaces and many have a nice view of the river. But, otherwise, this hotel (which is more of a motel) isn't anything special. We stayed on Bend for one night to do some beer drinking so it was more than adequate for that but not a luxury retreat or romantic getaway. read more

I was going to give this a one star until I saw the mother lode of bacon at the free breakfast served to hotel guests. The fresh fruit mounds and yogurt bowl had me star up on this so called "resort". The wifi is non existant. When another patron came to the counter and complained, he was offered a chord to fit into his laptop and told by the employee that she was completely untrained on how to use the it to get internet access. The river front views: Be aware that there is barely access to the river unless you rock hop. The water flow is too quick for kids to wade in the river. The dirt and dry grass do not add to the room view as does the low river that cannot be seen well on the first floor. This place was too pricey and I came away disappointed except for the wonderful breakfast. read more

Decided on the Riverhouse after several positive reviews and the price being very affordable. We stayed in 3 hotels (Westin and Marriott in Portland) in OR and this one ended up being our favorite as a whole. The rooms are extremely spacious and clean, the only minor complaint was the old school tv. Maybe they could invest in some inexpensive flatscreens..... We didn't go to the hotel breakfast since there were places we wanted to try downtown (and were recommended by the locals) but we did have drinks at their restaurant/bar. Very decent drinks, great patio overlooking the Deschutes River, and their steakhouse seemed popular. Wish their fitness center wasn't so outdated but just having the option there was good enough. Customer service was very helpful and they give you two coupons for up to $4 off at their restaurant - which includes cocktails!!! read more

You're paying resort prices for an old kept up hotel. They keep hot tub temperature unbearably hot. Husband works at a pool and was shocked at how hot the water was. My 3 year old found an unmarked pill on the floor of our room the first night. Thank goodness my 1 year old didn't find it or else it would have ended up in his mouth... when I brought it up to the front desk lady all I got was an "Ohhh.." no apology. Screen door to our room was off the hinges and just laying on the ground when we got there. To top it off when we were checking in the guy behind the desk told us we would have a $50 hold on our card in case we used Room service/damages. What he failed to tell us was it charged $50 A NIGHT so that pulled $200 out of our account. We were told it will be released 5-7 business days after we leave. Thank goodness we had the funds for that. Oh and if you want breakfast you have to pay extra for that service. Overall unimpressed and will not be staying there or recommending this place to family/friends. read more
