What really stood out to me was how many teenagers I saw there. Some were playing basketball, some were hanging out in groups, and others were taking pictures together around the park. Seeing that made the whole place feel even more lively, and it showed me right away that this is the kind of spot teenagers would genuinely love spending time in. As I kept walking around, I realized there was much more to enjoy than I expected. The playground areas looked colorful and fun, the sports courts were full of energy, and the shaded spots under the trees made it easy to take a break and just enjoy the moment. Even though it was my first time visiting Edward Vincent Jr. Park, I never doubted that the experience was going to turn out the way I hoped it would. There was something refreshing about being in a space where people of all ages were having a good time, but especially seeing so many teenagers laughing, talking, and taking photos together. It reminded me how important it is for teenagers to have places where they can feel creative, comfortable, and free to express themselves. I have lived for 24 years, but I am not physically or mentally 24 years old. In the summertime of 2024, I learned that I am still physically and mentally 18 years old, and I also learned that my prefrontal cortex is far more developed than the average 25 year old. That youthful mindset makes me appreciate places like this even more, because I can feel the same kind of excitement and creativity that teenagers feel when they are in a space that welcomes them. Edward Vincent Jr. Park is one of the most enjoyable and refreshing outdoor places I have been to in a long time, and I would highly recommend that teenagers go there. It gives them a place to hang out, take pictures, play, talk, and enjoy being themselves in a lively and open environment that feels made for them.

The landscaping is just gorgeous, and the little park is perfectly designed to suit the shape & size of its area. Even the walkway is interesting, with insets of critters (see photos). There has been, since the beginning, much debate about the environmental impact of the Playa Vista development. I will reserve comment here, and just speak about the park. In addition to seating areas, the space offers 2 telescopes for enhanced viewing of the wetland on the other side of Lincoln. I just love this little park space. The taller plants look amazing when the ocean breeze sets them in motion. My 18 photos help to tell the story, but it was the wrong time of day for any picture to do justice to the wetland. Sunset would be the perfect time of day, so I have an excuse to go back for more.......

You don't build homes here or want to live under them unless you're looking to grow some new tumors. Some cities turn these areas into small nurseries for plants, etc. Others, like here, turn them into simple parks. The term park is given lots of slack here. There's wide open green grass and a walking path. Don't worry, spending some time relaxing under the lines "shouldn't" do you any damage. It's a nice quiet area and a break from the busy world just a few blocks away.

In Chicago's Southwest 'burbs, way back before my son was even born, my husband and I hung out with my HS girlfriend and her husband. They had a house next to a seemingly endless green space under some power lines. It was amazing at night. People (local residents) built big bonfires out in the field....and no, there were never any wildfires. And my friend's hubby bought an ATV, all-terrain vehicle, the first person I ever knew who had one. They were especially uncommon in the Midwest. We took that thing out, after dark, on the hilly trail under the power lines. We rode it winter and summer. We dumped in it the snow, routinely, and fortunately nobody got hurt. We were probably saved by the fact that we were like beer-filled rag dolls when we flew off the ATV, laughing our brains out. Those were the days. None of us were parents yet, so we could take risks, and we did. Fast forward, decades. The trailhead is technically listed on Jefferson, which confused me at first. But there's lots of parking at the Sports Park on the corner of Lincoln Blvd and Bluff Creek Dr. From there, you just walk across the street, and there's an unmarked entrance right on Lincoln. The walk itself is interesting in a way I didn't expect. You're right next to the highway, so you can see and hear cars the whole time, but it's still surprisingly calming. It feels like nature just existing alongside the city instead of trying to escape it. I didn't see a single other person while I was there. Just a lot of birds, open space, and a few benches that feel made for sitting and thinking about life in LA for a minute. Lol I've lived here my whole life and somehow never came out here before. It's definitely not some big dramatic hike, but it's peaceful, a little quirky, and dworth visiting at least once.

A good portion of the wetlands has been overtaken by junkies and criminals. A lot of it is not safe to walk at all. The section off Jefferson that has signage is safer, but people are hiking in there and destroying it. There is not much space left for the beautiful birds that nest there and other animals that make it there home. Huge condos have been built across the street on the hill and that used to be part of the wetlands. It is now gone. Soon enough there will be nothing left. It is simply not protected by anyone. If you must go, please don't hike and toss trash. Take your photos and leave. And don't give anyone money or walk by yourself. It may look safe, it is not.
