Great spot for a run! People are friendly and try to be considerate of the space. A lot of people walking their dogs but for the most part they are on a leash. Nice scenic views with markers to inform you of mileage. I wasn't sure how far it went but I got up to around 3.5 miles. There are light posts which seem to light up the trail at night. Nice benches to sit. The entrance is toward the backend of the mall area. There's parking there or you can do street parking. read more

A gorgeous and very well kept trail park. The floor is entirely covered with wood chips and the entire trail goes through residential driveways and passes a small gated park. There are also car chargers nearby too for those who need them. A great park to visit I really like how it hasn't been "burned out" yet and everyone that was there was just doing their day to day walk or jog. I took a lot of pics which was kinda annoying but it was honestly such a beautiful and peaceful park I couldn't help myself. read more

What a serene respite in the middle of a residential area. This trail is about 3.7 miles one way - it is an out and back trail. The trail is made of wood chips instead of dirt or sand. It is very soft under foot and is comfortable to run or walk. The trail is relatively flat and is partly shaded. The start of the trail is in the Fry's parking lot. There is a set of stairs that goes down. The entire trail is very long (7 ish miles I think) and it can get quite crowded. Make sure you socially distance! The wood chip path is a love or hate. For me, I found the wood chips to be quite annoying. I got a lot of little pieces in my shoe. Also some people don't pick up after their dog as I saw poops on the path. Not much scenery as it goes through streets. Also there is some shade in the path but still bring a hat and wear sunscreen. read more

This trail is my new obsession. I just love it for a long walk in the afternoons. I live a few minutes away and have no trouble parking in the Fry's parking lot near Manhattan Village Mall. Take the steps down to the trailhead (still possible despite all the construction going on), and head west. The trail is gorgeous with lots of live oaks and other trees. The wood chips are a comfortable walking surface. The trail is wide, which is especially nice in the time of COVID. I get a little confused following the trail once I get into Downtown MB. There are several crosswalks to navigate, and at times it's easy to kind of lose the trail if you're deep into your music/podcast and not paying 100% attention. It's fun discovering the sculptures and memorials along the way. The MB time capsule is a cool idea. The 9/11 memorial is lovely and sobering. I feel lucky to have this trail so close by. read more

Beautiful, relaxing, quiet and clean pathway in the nature, few minutes away from Hermosa Beach

Thank you to fellow Yelper Andrew F for showing me this trail! We didn't do the full 7.5 mile run, I was not ready for it. Instead we made a turn on Manhattan Beach Blvd. and ran all the way towards the pier and back up. Running back up is pretty killer with the incline, very good workout! Round trip from the pier was about 3.8 miles. A huge plus is that they have markers at every quarter mile. Parking is on the driveway just passed Fry's when you're heading east on Rosecrans. Don't pass the Village Dr. stop light. You can also park in the Fry's lot or Manhattan Village lot and walk down the stairs to the start of the trail. This parking lot is also great for the summer when the beaches get crowded. Not to mention it's FREE! read more

I love this easy relaxing pretty walk. I live fairly close by, and My sister in law and I will frequently do this hike. Despite the fact that is in residential neighborhood, It is serene and feels fairly secluded. We start our hike around 8am and parking on the South end is not a problem. If you park at the North end, there is parking all day long as they just opened up the shopping parking structure which is super convenient! After around 10 am especially on a nice day, this hike can get pretty crowded. Very lovely walk/easy hike! read more

My partner and I are currently training for our first half marathon and regularly look for different trails a little further from home to check out on weekends. We were stoked to find and experience this trail. The trail is about 7.5 miles round trip on a majority woodchip + dirt pathway with ample parking on the street or in nearby parking lots. It is fairly shaded, pet-friendly, well-maintained, and well used without feeling crowded at any point. One thing I loved about this trail is that it passes by a park area with public restrooms, in case you need a pitstop mid-walk/run. The only real con I can think of is that there are several crosswalks throughout, some of which are on busy streets, though in my experience most drivers were courteous. The woodchips/uneven surface can also be challenging if you're used to running on flat surfaces. Overall great walking or running trail for runners, walkers, families, and pets alike. Will definitely be coming back in the future. read more

My dog and I love this trail! I went through the entrance on Rosecrans ave. The parking was a little tough to find. It is right before Fry's entrance and after manhattan village entrance. The trail was really nice and had a lot of flowers. The people were friendly and there were many trashcans + water fountains along the trail. The only downside is there are some breaks in the trail and you need to watch for cars. I've only made it to the three miles marker and hopefully I will be able to explore the full trail soon. read more

I finally got around to writing a review for this gem! Been doing bits and pieces mixed w/walking to the Strand from it for years and never knew what the entire trail was like. Verdict: it's excellent for joggers, walkers and pet parents & moms/families taking the kids out for a stroll. 7.5 miles round trip traveling between two beach cities. I agree w/the other reviews on all points. The pluses: Easy parking at Fry's parking lot Easy parking on streets (although if you park in front of a house, you'll quickly get the message to park elsewhere as you'll get backed in - understandable. Shaded throughout w/open areas so sunscreen, shades & sun cap a must. Peaceful and away from the streets on most parts. No bikes to dodge from No crowds, people walking spread across strolling, skateboards, rollerblades & other obstacles to dodge or block you (Yes referring to the Strand) Workout stations throughout Water fountains for both people & pets throughout Benches & trash cans throughout Hardly any dog waste throughout Beautiful scenic route w/beautiful plants throughout Easy Access points to both Piers/the Strand Few Access points to stores (water/etc) & public restrooms if you know where to look It's safe, but always be vigilant & aware of surroundings The huge perk that it's alongside both beachs This portion (Manhattan Beach city) seems a little more different than the Hermosa side - maybe it's just me (yes yes it's just me) What did I miss? The Minuses: The breaking points with streets, stops & stop lights (Almost got ran over w/impatient driver from Fiesta Hermosa), but most drivers (local) were courteous Can be harsh in open spots of sun blaring on your skin in high temperatures Mulch can be a little difficult & damaging/stain your shoes- appropriate trail running (or even hiking shoes if your walking) a must! I seen people in flip flops & short heeled shoes struggling. Understandable wearing flip flops (yes beach, I get it) if your doing the short pit stop w/the doggy(ies) or stroll Not so peaceful, quiet & away from streets in some areas A little feeling of uneasiness at beginning from Fry's parking lot thru underpass - just be aware of surroundings-I can not emphasize enough!! As one reviewer stated, little bit pre judgmental going on, the same thing happened to me, but my dog is a lot smaller & behaves if one does not try to pet her. I've had people frown at me (I warned them first) among other observations, not worth mentioning but definitely noticeable. Wished it could be extended further into Redondo Beach, but I know not possible- however access to Strand gives choices Did I miss anything? I'll have to do another review for Greenbelt park trail - which is basically the same. This trail also a plus for me, since there are no real hiking trails closest to me. But you do get a nice gradual incline going back towards the end. I've found my other ideal trail ;) read more

This woodchip path cuts through the villages of Hermosa & Manhattan Beaches. It begins at the Redondo/Hermosa border (intersection of Herondo & Francisca), and winds its way through two towns to end at Sepulveda just before Rosecrans, where the town of El Segundo begins. I need to track the path in miles, just for the heck of it, and will do so soon. I do know that it covers more than 20 acres in Manhattan Beach alone. In Manhattan Beach, the path runs between Valley Drive and Ardmore, and leads right into downtown MB at Manhattan Beach Blvd.. The path is wide & peaceful & pretty. There are flowering trees & big shade trees & wildflowers & nice landscaping all along the route. There are rest stops with benches & fountains, including doggy drinking bowls, at frequent intervals. But no restrooms, you have to go off the track to go potty. The path is for walking and running only. No cycling.....not that you really could, on the soft woodchips. I think that a parkway path through residential areas is one hell of a cool idea. I see it being done now in Palos Verdes, and my review of that path is coming soon. I got 30 photos so far, of the path from beginning to end. And I wore out yet another pair of athletic shoes.....hahaha.... read more

I used to run here everyday after work. My Krissie Kreme also loves walking here...lots of different scents to keep her occupied. I LOVE the wood chips and the shaded path hovered by lots of greenery (which keeps the noise level to a minimum from the surrounding streets). There are plenty of local folks running, walking or with their dogs. Also there is a school nearby, lots of residentual homes in the surrounding streets and plenty of parking all along the path. There is also a hidden parking spot behind Fry's Electronics on Rosecrans. It will take you to the entrance to the park....but it's a little creepy (especially underneath the bridge). I'm sure it's fine....but better safe than sorry. I much prefer entering the park from the opposite end. read more

After years of picking up this trail at Valley Park I finally noticed that there is a parking lot for the trail behind the Fry's on the intersection of El Segundo Blvd. and Sepulveda. The entrance is right before the parking for the Fry's on El Segundo. I believe the trail is approximately three miles one way and is cut off by intersecting streets. At which point you can use the cross walks or dart through traffic after you make sure your way is clear. There are work out stations located through and yes, as Nicole Y. mentioned, plenty of water stations for you and your pup. The cities do a wonderful job at maintaining the Parkway and replenish the mulch a couple of times a year, as well as, maintaining the beautiful native plants that adorn the path. This is a great place to take your pup for a walk, enjoy the weather by taking a nice stroll, or train for that marathon as you can make your run longer by picking up the strand in Hermosa Beach at the end of the Parkway going south. read more

Great place for a wonderful walk / run. Definitely found a good to go spot closer to home. Very clean parkway. Parking should you be in the neighborhood along the parkway can be a bit difficult. Apparently you can park near Frys Electronics and get to the pathway from that way. I loved bringing my dogs here but hate the judgement from some people. If you see my bigger dog than yours is on a leash and acting proper but before we even approach you, you are already calling your kids to come near you and the moment I walk by and YOUR little dog is the one acting erratic and barking maybe you shouldn't be so judgmental and stereotype owners and their dogs. Just saying. Other than those little hiccups I love this place and will make it part of my routine. read more

Round-trip this path is 7.5 miles. It's perfect for running, walking, and dog walking. I prefer it sometimes over the Manhattan Beach/Hermosa Beach Strand because it's less crowded, there are no bikes, and there's less dog poop. There's a lot of greenery and benches, water fountains for humans and dogs, and the miles are marked which is an added bonus. You can park behind Frys to start on the Manhattan Beach end, and go under Sepulveda to where the path starts, or start in Hermosa at Herondo & Francisca. Amazing amazing amazing park!!!!!!! Starts at Manhattan beach and goes all the way down to hermosas beach! Really good for train for 5k/10ks because it make you pick up your feet for the terrain. Beautiful views and very clear and open to see all around you. If you have time There are a few places to stop right by Manhattan Beach pier and just observe the same and have a coffee great for walking dogs walking children even a really cute daytime date really enjoyed myself and for sure will be back!!!!!! My 2nd favorite walk/run in the South Bay area, next to the Strand. The Veteran's Parkway or Greenbelt or "Chip Trail" runs from Herondo Street in Redondo Beach to Fry's parking lot in Manhattan Beach and is 3.75 miles long. There are little parking slots up and down Valley, parallel to the trail. Pros: Trail is well maintained Peaceful scenery Removed from traffic (cars & bikes) Cons: Wear old shoes because the wood chips will discolor your shoes There are breaks in trail where you have to wait for cars/lights to change When heading North, its slightly uphill A great run or walk on the weekend. Plus, I love taking a turn and walking/running the Strand, too. Awesome to incorporate the greenery & ocean all in one trip. read more

Ran this today as part of my 18 mile marathon training run. I entered the trail from behind Fry's and it was very pleasant the whole duration. For a Sunday afternoon it was not super crowded and there were enough trees to provide shade from time to time. There are ample water fountains and they even have little bowls set out for dogs! This is definitely going to be my run of choice, especially over the congested, poop-covered strand which forces me to dodge strollers, walkers, dogs, and children constantly. One thing to note is that if you plan on doing the trail round trip, it's entirely downhill from Manhattan Beach to Hermosa, and entirely uphill the other way. It's pretty gradual but your legs will definitely notice it :) There are little work out stations periodically as well where you can do sit-ups, pull-ups, etc if you want to include some cross-training with your run/walk. Highly recommend this trail! It's really lovely and a nice change of pace if you're used to running along the beach. You can park right behind Fry's too to easily access the trail. read more

The "chip" trail is a great way to get to and from the Manhattan Beach Pier and work up an appetite. Park near at Manhattan Village near Fry's and make a casual 15 to 30 minute run/fast walk or stroll for breakfast or lunch or dinner near the Pier and discover numerous culinary choices. After satisfying your taste buds be sure to walk to the end of the Pier and continue North or South along the walkway for extra mileage. Before returning stop at Starbucks for your caffeine fix. Take lots of photos to capture the experience. read more

My run club runs this path every Sunday morning and I don't mind driving the 30 or so minutes from the OC to get here. Free parking at the trailhead at the Fry's (off Rosecrans) and it picks up at the underpass to Sepulveda. The path is mulch and is maintained by the city, with replacing occurring a few times a year, it seems. The landscaping is great and you don't quite feel like you are in the city until you hit a major street like Manhattan Beach Blvd. Plenty of benches, water fountains and bowls for pups. Also, some sculptures, cross training stations, and mile markers adorn the path. In total, out-and-back to Redondo, it is about 7.5 miles. You can, however, make a right turn and continue your jaunt on the Strand, if you are up for it. Wish I lived closer, so I could go more often. read more

I discovered this gem on a run after work and fell in love. It's awesome how you get the green scenery combined with the residential and business zones. It was the first time I ran on tanbark but it wasn't a problem at all. Like Vicki D. mentioned, we parked in the lot behind Fry's and went under the overpass. It seems a little bit secluded at first but as you make your way out, you realize there are lots of runners and walkers - and people out walking their dogs. read more

Started running here once in a while, found it by accident from parking at the parking lot adjacent to Fry's to avoid turning on Sepulveda from Rosecrans. It's a great place to run but I recommend trail running shoes since there's a lot of dust and dirt. The downside of the dust and dirt is that there are some spots that are mini-ditches that you can accidentally turn an ankle if you're not careful. I had a few close calls. I decided to not review this place until I did the entire 7.5 round trip, I usually don't have time since I run this trail on my lunch break. I like the mileage markers along the way but I generally don't like stopping too much during my runs but it's inevitable on this trail since you have to Frogger it a couple of times with the traffic lights and traffic crossings. The uphill at the end coming back is great but kind of brutal if you're tired, just a heads up. read more

This is one of my favorite places to run. From Sepulveda Blvd to the border of Hermosa Beach, this is a beautiful chip trail, it has lots of trees and grass and water fountains for you and your doggy and it is perfect for my bad runners knee! I'm taking the baby next time, I always see many happy kids too. There are markers every quarter mile, it is 3 3/4 miles one way. I've done it roundtrip, according to my cardio app its 7.75 miles. There is a huge parking lot behind Fry's where you can park. read more

Awesome running path! I am a lifetime local of the area and honestly can't believe yesterday was the first time I ran on the famous "greenbelt". I have walked down some of it in the past when I lived in Herondo and knew it went on towards Manhattan Beach but I had NO IDEA that it ended (or started) literally right next to the Manhattan Village mall. I work in El Segundo and have been trying to find an alternative to running during my workday. I used to run at Aviation Park before work but my schedule has changed and it's a bit out of the way for me. I googled running paths and was surprised that you can access the greenbelt from the Fry's parking lot (WHAT!?), this was so convenient for me as it's quite close to my work. Literally you park in the back of the lot and there's a little downward hill you walk down and WALAH, there's the underpass and the greenbelt. I ran about 2.5 miles yesterday and LOVE how open it is, easy to cross the street where you need to, and it was EMPTY. I passed a handful of people total walking their dogs or running too, during peak lunch time hours... love it!!! I will definitely be making this my regular jogging spot during before-work or lunch time workouts! read more

i love this chip trail. such a beautiful place to run/walk/bike. the path runs right between the valley/ardmore streets. starts by rosecrans and sepulveda and runs about 7.5 miles. i haven't done the whole stretch...but hopefully one day will get to the end! read more
