I wanted to try a small local place in my Texas travels. And I found it in La Grange Texas. This cafe looks like a small-town cafe from the days of the forgotten past. They had a counter. They had an off-the main seating room. The breakfast, which is my favorite meal, was typical small town cafe fare. But that is what I wanted. That was what I got. Breakfast was delicious. The grits made me smile. The biscuits and gravy were ... sub par, but the atmosphere made up for my disappointment. I am a B&G snob. The menu was extensive and the wait staff was great. It was not very busy for a mid-Tuesday morning. I would return if I had the chance. I will tell my friends of this place. My only problem was that the restroom was very hot, and there was plumbing problems in the old building, which required ALL paper be put in a wastebasket nestled by the toilet. It was a shock to say the least as I looked in it, and, sure enough, all wipe and such was in there...used...ick! It wasn't chocolate yo! Travel through town to go here. You'll be glad you did.

Not fancy but good, fresh food. Go there often and have been disappointed only once by a food item. (grits, too runny)

Unfortunately, this visit felt more like convenience than cooking. The mashed potatoes, corn, and even the roll have been reheated in a microwave. I also watched a meatloaf dinner taken out of the microwave and then returned into it. I hope it wasnt served later. The country-fried chicken tasted and looked like a frozen, pre-made product rather than something freshly prepared. I say this with confidence as the server/cook just grabbed it out a drawer and threw it in fryer. The gravy had the most flavor on the plate, although it tasted like a standard mix rather than house-made. The rest of the meal was bland and forgettable. The customer service wasn't rude, but it felt robotic--there was very little warmth, personality, or the kind of hospitality that makes a neighborhood diner special. I came hoping for a home-cooked meal and that nostalgic diner charm. Instead, I left wishing more restaurants would bring back the pride, care, and personal touch that once defined the diner experience

I noticed it's a bit limited on burgers and sandwiches but perhaps good for the area and easy for the staff to make. We ordered and added some pies, paid in cash for the discount and left to fill our cups. The cashier and another employee had conversations amongst themselves while we were ordering and paying. Felt a bit awkward since we didn't want to interrupt their hugging and or whatever they were doing. The sweet tea stayed mostly empty but lots of unsweetened tea. We dove right into our pies first. The Almond Joy didn't taste like the candy bar as much as an amaretto coconut pie but really good! The buttermilk pie was really good too. I ordered the chicken poblano "burger". The lettuce was sadly very soggy as was the whole sandwich. Thankfully the bun was toasted because there was way too much mayo. I noticed right away that it was just bland. The chicken was thick which is great but it was bland on bland on bland. No poblano flavor. I looked for the peppers. They were grilled/sautéed and thin. Soggy sitting under the lettuce. No flavor. The fries weren't anything special but the crunch. The tea was sadly tasteless as well. I really wish there was more to say. My mom's sandwich was just sort of...there. Nothing special to talk about. I'd go again for pie and coffee alone and only if I was desperate for something to eat. There may be better places to eat in town. It's slow paced inside. Good to watch cars go by and imagine what the place looked like years ago.

(Hint: just saying for future options. I'll be on the lookout next time I'm rolling down 290 East.) All good and well, the girls behind the counter were attentive and nice. And the restaurant rang of a good place to go after a go hometown Buffalo's Friday night football game. (This is Texas you know.) This is a small town BBQ spot so I for sure was impressed with how many folks were inside dining and how many cars the lot could hold. It was a Saturday afternoon and everyone had tables full of delicious barbecue that we passed in front of as we got sat by the friendly staff. We loved the moist brisket sandwich, fall off the bone pork ribs, plus Later on we ordered 1lb of their jalapeno cheddar sausage to go and had it the very next day while back at home in Austin. The sausage was so juicy and succulent that we didn't regret having leftovers for even another meal - morning breakfast with egg - the next day. Portions were large and there was plenty of food to bring back home with us to enjoy later. Great and wonderful and attentive staff is what makes this spot even that more enjoyable.

First of all, it's very kid-friendly! Almost every family that walked in had small children. They have high chairs, crayons/coloring pages, and a kids menu. The kids menu deserves a kudos! Usually, I expect bare minimum but they really invested effort into the food. The grilled cheese came on big fluffy buttery pieces of bread and was something I'd expect to receive from the main menu. The chicken tenders were big and juicy and delicious too. Kids devoured their grilled cheeses (to be fair, they've never met a grilled cheese they didn't like but that's what makes the restaurant's above-and-beyond effort more admirable). I enjoyed my food as well. I got the chicken-friend steak. I rarely eat fried food -- this was worth it. Delicious. Also the show-stealer was the Brussels sprouts side! Fantastic. Perfectly browned and crisped (not overdone/too blackened like many places do). Mashed potato side was tasty too. Finally, the service was excellent. Super nice and attentive staff.
