We absolutely love riverside! Breakfast more so and it's all day! Anytime family comes we makes sure to make a pit stop

Wow this is a hidden gem near the river in La Grange. Drove by a 100 times without giving it a thought but today was different and we stopped in for late lunch. First off the appearance is very clean and neat, staff is super friendly and attentive to our every need. Next, the food was well prepared and delivered piping hot. The food was very tasty and seasoned to perfection. And last but not least, their prices are amazingly low when compared to same type of food at other places in the area. To sum it up, place is immaculately clean, food was perfect, staff was fantastic and low prices. Give it a try next time you're in La Grange and hungry. read more

This is a charming little clean and well appointed diner. A must for any diner is cleanliness and this place excelled in it. Our order came out pretty quick and we could tell all the ingredients were fresh. The bacon in particular was really tasty, thick slice and well cooked. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. My mom, grandma and I were passing through La Grange on our way back to Houston. On empty stomachs we decided to stop here on a whim, and we are so glad we did! The atmosphere of this place was so nice and welcoming! great customer service. They were very attentive and kind. Always brought out a fresh batch of chips when we were running low -- didn't even have to ask! (same goes for drinks, always filled) I would have added a picture to go with this review, but truthfully, I didn't get a chance! I ordered the Street Tacos and the meat was so tender and had great flavor! I am not in this area often, but if I ever find myself in La Grange, I know exactly where I will be grabbing a bite to eat! read more

I wanted to try a small local place in my Texas travels. And I found it in La Grange Texas. This cafe looks like a small-town cafe from the days of the forgotten past. They had a counter. They had an off-the main seating room. The breakfast, which is my favorite meal, was typical small town cafe fare. But that is what I wanted. That was what I got. Breakfast was delicious. The grits made me smile. The biscuits and gravy were ... sub par, but the atmosphere made up for my disappointment. I am a B&G snob. The menu was extensive and the wait staff was great. It was not very busy for a mid-Tuesday morning. I would return if I had the chance. I will tell my friends of this place. My only problem was that the restroom was very hot, and there was plumbing problems in the old building, which required ALL paper be put in a wastebasket nestled by the toilet. It was a shock to say the least as I looked in it, and, sure enough, all wipe and such was in there...used...ick! It wasn't chocolate yo! Travel through town to go here. It looked like there were a lot of cars out front, which is often a good sign, but they were actually for the biz next door. The food was way overpriced for a very basic breakfast. The waitress wasn't attentive, so we ran out of coffee. Overall, it was just meh. I'd suggest going elsewhere. (2 basic breakfasts and 2 cups of coffee $28) read more

Just a small town cafe. TomCat hanging outside the entrance.... Walk in, seat yourself. We were waited on within 5 minutes. Coffee refills often, but it wasn't the best or the hottest I've had, just basic coffee. I ordered a 1 egg plate with bacon, homemade toast and homefries. The homemaid bread was great, was not a fan of the potatoes. We all shared a giant pancake, it was good. Overall, basic breakfast. It was a little awkward and yet entertaining when the 2 waitresses had an argument about who was assigned to which tables. read more

Stopped in here for a quick lunch while traveling thru with another couple. The menu was pretty extensive, more Mexican based than the menu I had viewed on line, but they had enough choices to make everyone happy. Everyone enjoyed their selections (various sandwiches and a quesadilla), what I remember most is the bread used to make the club sandwich. Best I have ever tasted! Would stop here again. read more

First Impressions are very nice little quaint place. And that's where it ends. Order the special which consists of pork chops eggs and a biscuit. I order a side of gravy to try that as well with the biscuit. Eggs were over cooked and tasted like oil. Along with the pork chops lacked flavor and was tough as a boot. Wish we could rate a 3.5 because they deserve a little more then 3. Quantity of food was good. Pancakes, bacon and ham were very good. The hash browns are not what we expected they were actually skillet large potato chunks, flavor was fine but just not hash browns as expected. They got a 3 because they use cold plastic plates so food did not stay hot, they do not have butter only whipped spread which we prefer to stay away from whipped products and everything was just a little over cooked across the the board. I prefer not to see any black edges on biscuits, sausage pancakes or bacon. If they could just cut back on the cooking time and provide real plates allowing for hot food to stay hot (don't prefer cold eggs and other breakfast items,) we could give a solid 5 especially since we love to support locals. We recommend to give it a try. We will be back and just request less cooking time. read more

This is our second time here. Years ago we stopped in and after moving to the area we tried it again one weekend morning. When the waitress asked if we wanted one or two biscuits (most people say one is enough she said) we learned why. Not really a biscuit more like a dense hockey puck roll. So heavy and doughy on the inside. Also skip the gravy. It must come from a can because how could you not use some bacon fat/flour/and milk and come with an edible gravy. The grits I'm sure are instant grits made with water instead of milk and no seasoning what so ever. This is off our list. My husband did say the sausage was good though. Home-cooked meals from a homey cafe. My friends and I always make sure we stop by this place anytime we're in La Grange. This small cafe has a nice country type feeling. You can tell immediately that it is a place frequent by locals. Of the three times I have eaten here, I have always left full to the brim. I have tried the steak, chicken fried steak and the chicken noodle soup. I can say that all three were very hearty. I always seem to have trouble finishing my meal.I have yet to try the lunch buffet. The second time I visited my friends ordered the lunch buffet and it looked amazing. I ended up getting the chicken noddle soup because I wasn't feeling well. I was soo jealous as I sipped my soup and watched my friends destroy the buffet. I'll admit though the soup was delicious, it had huge chunks of chicken. My wife and I stop at the Riverside Cafe at 11am on our way back home on a Thursday. Only one other table had people eating. Not a good sign. Riverside Cafe is a simple place with the traditional small town cafe look which we both enjoy. Our server was great, which was the only good thing about our stop. They had a lunch buffet for $11. The buffet included salad, pork chops, chopped steak, liver, red potatoes, cabbage, and beans. Our waitress recommended the buffet or a hamburger. I went with the buffet. My wife wanted to try the chicken fried steak. The waitress warned her it wasn't the typical cfs. It's breaded with breadcrumbs and not flour. My wife had a craving for cfs, so that's what she ordered. I got my salad from the buffet table. There were no tomatoes and the lettuce was yellow. I then tried the meats. The pork chop was super dry and tough as well as the liver. The chopped steak was ok, but it was a bit chewy and had no taste to it. In fact, none of the meat had any taste to it. The food tasted really old. Good thing they had gravy to flavor and wet the meat. My wife's cfs came out as ordered. The one way I always judge a good cfs is the amount of crust to meat ratio on the edges. This had a large amount of edge crust before you cut into your meat. Someone doesn't know how to prepare a cfs. My wife thought her meal was good, but it did have too much salt. She didn't think this would be a regular stop for us. One thing really sticks out. While we were eating, we saw a kitchen employee come out to the buffet table. I was thinking he was checking on what food needs to brought out. Wrong! He reached into the pork chops with his bare hand looking for a piece of meat to his liking. He then walked back to the kitchen eating his pork chop as he walked. The cafe has signs all over the place about NOT using the same plates for each run to the buffet table. That's good to tell people, but here comes an employee who sticks his hand into the buffet pan?! Apparently, this cafe thinks health codes only apply to diners. Amazing. Makes me wonder what they do behind the walls in the kitchen where we can't see. The guy came out again carrying "clean" dishes for the buffet table. I'm assuming he was the dishwasher. Oh, and the restrooms are terribly dirty. Being a guy, I don't really care where I pee. :) After seeing their men's restroom, I should have peed on the side of the road. The toilet hadn't been cleaned in a long time. The floor looked like it had years of "gunk" on it. The sink looked like they cleaned auto parts in it. I felt like my hands were dirtier when I left than when I walked in. We always like to support the mom and pop joints, but Riverside Cafe won't see us again. read more

Stopped in the Riverside Cafe on our way to Austin for a quick bite. It turned out to have friendly service and adequate food but nothing special. It was not really beside the river! The "Jumbo" cheeseburgers were just average size and taste, the BLT was tasty but didn't come with a side (We got a very small order of french fries for $2.25.) This place has gone down the drain. My husband and I stopped in for our weekend breakfast out. The waitress recommended the the steak (8oz BEEF rib eye) and egg special which we both choose. They bring us both grilled pork chops. Sent it back. They bring us the right plates rather quickly. Both of our steaks were VERY undercooked, mine to the point of still being cold in the middle. Now I do like a rare steak but this was completely RAW!! I then get verbally abused by the manager/or owner, she never told me. Then said we had to leave because apparently I didn't know what a rare steak is. I have called the health department and reported them because there is no way they are using safe cooking practices to ensure the food is prepared correctly read more

Horrible service and restaurant! Not sure how they stay in business. Had breakfast with my father and uncle one morning. I was hungry for steak and eggs. I ordered the plate that consisted of eggs, steak, sausage patties, hashbrowns. While sitting there 2 other families that walked in got seated and served way before us. Once we finally got our food not only did they get my fathers order wrong but my plate consisted of an over seasoned and salty steak, also the sausage patties, seemed like Jimmy Dean precooked patties that could either be warmed up and put in a frying pan for 5 to 10 minutes, in addition they were burned. Since our order was late we were offered additional items we didnt want, like soupy grits and burnt toast. I had 2 bites and I was done, I couldn't stomach eating anymore. Also upon eating we saw the cook come from the back, he simply looked unkept and just was there to be there, not really interested in cooking, his appearance was not very pleasing which also made my stomach turn that this person made the food. I will NEVER eat there again. Also at that time the restaurant was warming up there lunch buffet on the steamer table, which a couple of the waiters helped themselves to since they decided to go on break. Trust me when I say this you are better spending your money at McDonald's than at this place... Save your money and go somewhere else! Also the lady at the register (apparently the owner) was the only one smiling and more than happy to take your money. Someone really needs to contact the state and report this restaurant, I'm sure they will find more problems other than with the food. Stay away! read more

We were in the area for Antique Days. We wanted a place to have a nice dinner, which by the way, they are only open for dinner during Antique Days. The building is simple, but that is all. The menu had lots of meal options. I had the T-bone steak and my husband had the cheese enchiladas. Both meals were excellent. Even the iced tea was perfect (nice and strong).
