I really wanted to like this place - it's in the middle of Medicine Park's quaint downtown and is the kind of basic homestyle restaurant I usually like when on a hiking vacation. And things started off ok with the spicy cheese curds. A little too spicy for my taste, a little too mild for my husband so a nice happy medium. Sadly, that was the highlight of the meal. My burger was good but the bacon on it was, you should pardon the expression, flaccid. Completely undercooked. Not in a "I'm weird about my bacon and like it borderline burnt" way but in a "we threw it in the microwave for 30 seconds and flopped it on the burger" way. Since I can be a little weird about extra crispy bacon, I decided I was being overly harsh and moved on to the alleged house made chips. They were terrible. Seriously, not just bad. Terrible. First of all, unless the owners live in the Lay's factory, these weren't house made. They were straight out of a bag and an old bag at that because they were stale. I literally ate one and couldn't eat another bite. In spite of all of that, I was teetering between 3 and 4 stars because the service was good, our waitress was nice, the fries were good, and my husband enjoyed his Bama Chicken Sandwich...right up until the moment he noticed mold on the bottom bun. The server Megan was so efficient, friendly and kind. The catfish dinner was delicious, the side salad has lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, croutons served in a nice size bowl for 1:00! We went with friends visiting from CA and they loved their food too. This place was great! Tucked away in quaint Medicine Park, OK, it backs up to a water source from Lake Lawtonka. They built the restaurant around trees and nature, so you will find tree trunks throughout the restaurant. The water source behind it is chock full of turtles, catfish, and various other fresh water creatures. The food was amazing. We got the catfish po'boy and the Bama chicken sandwich with fried okra (not slimy at all!!). Delicious. I have thought, for the past 30 years that I hate catfish... well boy was I wrong!! The only downsides were the outdoor chairs were highly uncomfortable, and someone was smoking occasionally down the stairs. (We sat outdoors, maybe the cook or a waitress in their outdoor break area?) But even those small details were not enough for me to rate it less than 5. Highly recommended!! read more

I took a friend to lunch for her birthday. This is the perfect place for a destination meal. Our burgers were delicious, the view was beautiful and the service was outstanding. I did not eat here. My guy and I went in, sat and waited for about 10 minutes, but left after we heard the second round of employees yelling and cursing at each other in the kitchen. One employee came out and was arguing with another employee about where she was working that night. The yelling from the kitchen could be heard through the broken screen door at the kitchen. With this clear lack of staff management, we were concerned about who was overseeing the quality of our food, so we left. Good food, cooked fresh. We had the loaded nachos. It was an appetizer, plenty large to share. Choice of Meat, ground beef, or chicken. We had the beef which was crumbled and cooked well. also topped with tomatoes and onions and a special sour cream sauce and bowl of queso.....it was not spicy hot, but we'll seasoned. We really liked it. They also serve hamburgers, chicken, sandwiches, salads and frog legs for lunch. Waitress was attentive bringing us refills without our asking for them. Kept checking to see if there was anything else we needed, but not making a nuisance of herself. You can sit on patio or inside. They have booths inside overlooking the river. Stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. Place wasn't very busy so maybe that affected the service. We were greeted almost immediately after walking in and the hostess was very friendly. Was seated inside ( we had a choice of outdoor dining) with a great view of the river. Soon after ordering our lunch arrived. We started with the steak nachos. It actually surprised me on how good they were. I would definitely order that again and I would definitely recommend that as an appetizer. Mom had the grilled chicken salad and she said it was " wonderful ". I had the chopped pork bbq sandwich with fries. The flavor was wonderful. I would definitely recommend this place and will return with the expectation of receiving the same great service and and expertly prepared meal. read more

Whether you go for the chicken salad, a burger, catfish, or an appetizer it always seems to have been made with country lovin' served pipin' hot. Today I had the Cowboy corn nuggets fried perfectly crisp with corn and spicy cheese goodness inside it with a juicy Bison Swiss Cheese Jane Burger with fries. Sorry no picks we got done hiking to the top and back of Mt. Scott and as soon as the food came I pretty much inhaled it and burnt my mouth while I was at it. Yea, It was worth it. Rarely go to Medicine park. My husband's been to this place before and he wanted to try the "rocky mountain oysters". Hey yeah, why not lets go eat some bull testicles... Unfortunately they didn't have it, but we still enjoyed our dinner. I had been dying for catfish for weeks and I finally got my fix here. The fish itself was very juicy and the batter was superb. My husband had a the okie burger. I highly recommend it. The only con I had to this place, was that I asked our waitress what a good side order would be, and she recommended the fried onions. I was thinking more of a fried onion ring. It came out to be those small fried bits that you would normally put on top of green bean casserole, or within a burger. Shout out to the staff today at Riverside Cafe!!! Our Grandaughter's class went on a field trip to the Aquarium and stopped here to eat! The food came out hot and fast!! There was 20 of us I think! Not one kiddie wanted for anything! The Jalapeño Popper burger was awesome our granddaughter loved her catfish and another adult tried the peanut butter and jelly burger!!! Best catfish in the state! We drive to Medicine Park from north OKC specifically for the catfish, and my step son has fallen in love with the chicken fried steak sandwich. We always sit on the patio overlooking the river, and usually there is live music playing. It's a fantastic atmosphere! Staff are always friendly and helpful, and the prices are on point. Great selection and diverse menu, everything came out on time and the food was delicious. I had a sirloin steak cooked perfect, nice selection if sides and even low carb dinner salad options. This place is very unique and quirky. The food was above average and the service was great. There's not really a great system for seating patrons though and no one seemed to be in charge. The service seemed okay from my brief interaction with the hostess when I picked up a takeout order. I tried the Chuck Norris sandwich and ended up throwing half away. The buffalo sauce was very sweet and ruined the sandwich. The chicken and brioche bun are probably good but it was impossible to tell with the overpowering sweetness of the buffalo sauce. Cute building with nice views and an outdoor patio. Other dishes might be good but stay away from anything with buffalo sauce. read more

The service here seems awesome, as long as it's not our server. We watched impeccable service from the entire wait staff to other customers, but it seems our waitress just wasn't in it to win it today. We waited 15 min to get asked for our drinks. I can't speak to the quality of the food in this review..... We walk up to the restaurant and we stood outside alongside another group waiting to be seated. A waitress walks by and said, "go inside, the host will seat you". My brother and I walked inside and there was two guys behind this counter and an older lady with blonde hair. The lady was busy going over the check with another group, however the two guys literally just stood there, neither said anything to us. We waited inside for 15 minutes. Both my brother & I took turns using the restroom, and we walked around trying to get assistance. A family of six walks in the door and one of the guys behind the counter walks out to the other family and said, "would you like inside or outside?" The gentlemen said, "I believe they were here before us" pointing to my brother and I. The dude sits us and asks what we want to drink. He gets the drinks and says, "your server will be right with you". We sat there waiting for about fifteen more minutes. We see two waiters and two waitresses, walking back and forth. Sometimes talking to customers at tables, sometimes just standing around. I tried to get their attention several times with no luck. I told my brother, " F**k this place, lets just leave" We got up and walked out. We passed two servers, the host and the lady behind the counter....Not a word was said to us.... NOTHING. I can handle mediocre food when the service is good, I can't stand piss poor service like this. read more

Medicine park does not have alot of choices but, we were very happy with the riverside cafe. The food was hot and tasted great. I had the chicken sandwich and okra and E had the burger. I hate that they don't serve alcohol. I just really wanted a mixed drink or a decent beer with dinner and that was not an option here. The wait staff was very young so im sure it has something to do with the liquor license issue. I love the patio and the fact that there are trees growing through the middle of the restaurant. On sunday we ate lunch on the patio and had live music. It was great! Just what we needed before we headed back to the city after a mini vacation. read more

Loved it! My family and I took last weekend to spend some quality time together and to enjoy the fantastic weather! We where camping at lake Ellsworth and decided to take a little trip to medicine park. We decided to eat lunch here during our visit. Upon walking in, we where Promptly seated to a little table on the porch right next to the river! Which my family and I both enjoyed. You could hear the river and watch the ducks. There also happened to be a pretty decent musician playin cover songs which added to the awesome atmosphere. Like other reviews have mentioned, our service was not the best but it also wasn't slow. It was more like, "took a while to get a refill on drinks" kind of service. I was enjoying my time with my family so that didn't bother me. I ordered the "cluck Norris" a buffalo chicken sandwich on a hotdog type bread. It was good, wish it was more spicy but besides that I enjoyed it! The fries where hand breaded and very good! Husband got a hamburger which looked really good! And my son got himself a "Nathan corn dog" which we got a kick out of.. since that's my sons name! Overall, a very nice experience. Loved the ambiance and the weather made it perfect. Food was good and service was okay. Would I come again? Hm. I wouldn't be opposed! Use to be a netter quality restaurant with nice fish and good meals. During CoVid it turned into a burger place. Decent burgers.

I visited here about a month ago and won't be returning. The food was pretty good, but the experience was not. It was winter and chilly out so the patio and all river facing doors/windows were closed. While inside, there was a dog that was repeatedly barking and whining, but out of sight from our table. I assumed it was a service dog and brushed it off. About 20 min later, the dog and it's owner came out of the inmost part of the restaurant and it was clear that it was not a service dog. A group of people behind our booth freaked out and asked to pet the dog so it hung out around our table for a bit, unfortunately. As they were leaving, the dog stopped and peed on the tree that comes through the floor and the roof inside the restaurant. Literally peed on the carpet. The owner saw, tugged on the dog to leave and ran out. I notified our waitress and she said "we'll get that cleaned up right away." We were there for another 30+ min waiting on food/eating/paying. Nobody ever went to clean it up. 0% chance it was ever tended to. So unsanitary. read more

We were actually advised against going here for dinner, but after a couple of days you run out of options and we wanted to try it for ourselves. I'm glad we did, even if just for the atmosphere. The restaurant is literally built into the creek. They kept a couple of the older trees and used them as support posts which was awesome. All we had to do was turn our heads to see all sorts of wildlife. Trout, geese, ducks, turtles, and even a finch nesting. The food was about as good as you could expect from a cafe in a small town, I ordered a medium rare steak (the special, because I like the whole experience, and without high expectations) and of course it came out over cooked, but it really had a nice flavor, and I was pleasantly surprised. The fried pickles were awesome and the people delivering the food were really cheerful. The only thing we did not enjoy about our visit was our waitress. She seemed almost angry that we were there. All of the other servers were seen laughing and chatting with their tables while she was nowhere to be found throughout our meal. The kicker was at the end of the meal when she stood over us, waiting for us to sign the check. It was so uncomfortable. We have both worked in the industry and are excellent tippers. Pros: We didn't have many options as we had the kids and dog with us post hike. Found a place with a sunny patio and live music. I usually don't like restaurant performers, but this guy was good. My father in law loves the chicken fried steak here, so we decided to give it a try. Huge servings of fried foods if you're into that sort of thing. My kids and dog are, so they were in heaven. Cons: terrible service? I mean all the staff were super nice and pleasant, but incredibly slow and ineffectual. We sat ourselves on the patio at the direction of the hostess inside the restaurant. 15 minutes after being seated someone took our drink orders and brought us menus. He apologized for the wait and said our server would be out soon. After 30 minutes of us sitting there, my husband had to go inside and order our food. Eventually (probably 10-15 min later) our server showed up to take our order again. I heard her explain to the tables next to us that she didn't realize these were her tables. Ok. We got our food and she never came back out to check on us. Ended up paying inside. read more
