Had a great dinner at Stoked Wood Fired Pizza in Brookline. We shared three pizzas: the Meatball & Ricotta, Sausage & Onion, and Honey Bacon Bianca, and honestly enjoyed all of them. The wood-fired crust was excellent, with that perfect combination of crispy edges, a little char, and a soft, chewy center. The Meatball & Ricotta was hearty and flavorful, and the creamy ricotta balanced the meatballs really well. The Sausage & Onion was another winner, really tasty and well executed. The Honey Bacon Bianca was probably the most interesting of the three and definitely stood out. The salty, smoky bacon with the sweetness from the honey was a great combination, especially on a white pizza. Sharing a few different pizzas is definitely the way to go here because you get to try a little bit of everything. Stopped in based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews on Yelp. Showed up around 7pm on a Sunday and it was near capacity but we were able to be seated right away. The dining room is fairly small with some bar seating available as well. It was clean and bright. It took about 7 mins for the server to come over and she lead with "are you ready to order?" I guess simple pleasantries are useless anyway. We knew our drinks and appetizers order but not what we wanted for pizza yet so we ordered those and told her we'd order pizzas when the apps and drinks came. She came back about 3 minutes later and asked if we were ready to order yet. Feeling pressured, we ordered thinking that perhaps they close soon (not the case). The bartender delivered our drinks a few minutes later and about 5 mins after that both the appetizers and pizza arrived at the same time. Besides the fact that our table wasn't large enough to accommodate all that food and drink, it was never our intention to eat our appetizers with our meal. The good news is that the food was hot, fresh and tasty. The potato bombs were excellent. Crispy home fry like potatoes and the peppers had a nice heat. I would love to try the popper version next time. The pizzas were good too, but be prepared for floppy and slightly under done base crust but a perfectly charred edge crust. I find many wood fired pizza to come this way but I did see other reviews mention this as a negative. The bill comes in a small ball jar with a delicious rice crispy treat. While the jar worked it must have made it hard to see that I dropped my credit card in it, so after the waitress walked by a few times I removed the card and made it visible on the table. When the tab came to sign I was not given a pen. I should have walked out and just let them charge me for just the tab but I cannot stiff waitstaff, even when it's poor service. My only hope is that it was the waitress's first day and she somehow figures out the typical cadence and procedure involved in waiting tables. We went here on a Fri night during their peak dinner hour (bet. 6-7). They were packed, but likely due to many people ordering take out rather than dine in, the wait was only about 10-20 min. Most other places in the area had a 45 min minimum wait--we had walked over after leaving two other places with 45 min+ wait times. All of the people we interacted with here were very nice: hostess, waitress, bus service. They were a little slow taking our order, but hey they were super busy and they apologized. The food came out in a timely manner. We got a 12" pizza and salads. Their 12" is good for about 2 ppl who don't eat too much or 1 person who is really hungry. We are from out of town visiting family so we don't know how their pizza compares to elsewhere around here. It was a good pizza, but we can get way better from at least two local places and one chain back home. If anyone is familiar with the big chains Blaze pizza or Dominos, Stokes pizza is better than both of them--but pizza tastes vary. Their salads were also good. They only have ranch and vinaigrette dressing (I love thousand island, always disappointing when not available, but hey, ranch is a good back up) and you can add bacon, chicken, or shrimp to the salad. They also have various vegan options for salad and pizza. Their ambiance is that of a small family style or local restaurant and not upscale. So you would be comfortable coming here with friends and family for a casual night out or friends to sit and eat at their bar. We didn't get pics cause we were with family and were distracted. Local parking is metered street parking, which can be hard to find. To pay, download and use the "Passport" parking app and find the zone marked on the meter to enter into the app. Look at posted hours to see when the free period begins for your day of the week. We would recommend coming here if you are in the area and feel like pizza, want take out, or want to see if they have a shorter wait time than elsewhere near by. Yelp 4.5 average is about right as this is a 4-5 star restaurant based on food and service quality. read more
