I am a former 20-year wedding professional, so I tend to be critical of places. But there was absolutely NOTHING to be critical about this place. Clean, spacious, clean restroom facilities, gorgeous everywhere you went. I attended my friend's daughter's wedding over the weekend at Riverside Receptions. I found it to be unique and beautiful in the interior. The wall of windows was insane. The happy couple was married, and their guests watched while overlooking the Fox River. The reception/dinner moved to the upper floor and the room and food were excellent, as was the service. I have food allergies and they accommodated them beautifully. I had the chicken with I think some sort of broccoli on the inside and a cream sauce. The mashed redskin potatoes were insanely delicious. Truly a classy and memorable wedding for the couple, their families and the guests. This goes down as one of the nicest weddings I ever attended. read more

We had a separate area for appetizers and drinks by the bar and great seating as well. The room for dinner was awesome with the view of the river. We had an Italian buffet luncheon that was absolutely delicious. A great variety of foods and wonderful set up. We attended a wedding here and had a great time. The venue itself is very pretty with a nice scenic view of the river. The room that hosted the reception was a good size and the tables were spaced out just right. They did a good job setting up for the layout. There was even room for a sweets table, a photo booth, and a small area for bar tables. As a guest, I felt the space was really nice. The ceilings are a bit low for my liking though. I'm a vegetarian and the meal that was provided for me was actually very good. I was impressed with my food. It was typical banquet hall style, but tasted great and I was very satisfied. My fiancé had a chicken plate and he was also satisfied. My biggest compliment to the venue would be that the staff was excellent. Coming out with hors d'oeuvres, they were making sure to get all the guests and filled their plates quite a bit. The bartender was friendly and funny, and when we were done with food, our plates were taken quickly. Water was constantly being replenished, even during the dancing! From the initial tour to our wedding day, we had incredible service from all Riverside staff, but especially from our sales coordinator, Jessica. She truly went above and beyond to make our wedding day all that we wanted it to be. Some highlights: -Riverside is a beautiful, well decorated venue, so we did not need to provide much decorations. They even set up the decorations that we did bring -The floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked the Fox River were perfect for a spring wedding -The food was delicious and beautifully presented. - The surrounding area has several parks, which made for awesome photos. We were invited to a wedding ceremony and reception at Riverside. Now the bride's a bit of a partier and on the edgy side with her humor. The groom is an ex-Marine with a number of his fellow soldiers attending. They all love beer in abundant quantities. Another invitee posted online that he would be wearing a tuxedo t-shirt. Without having been to this place before and without personally knowing the groom, we anticipated a rowdy, drunken, free-for-all till the police shut it down. Boy were we wrong. The couple's got some serious class. So does Riverside. Simply put, the scenery is amazing. Located on the Fox River, beside Rt. 38's scenic bridge, decorated with hanging planters, Riverside brings a vintage European style to what is already a splendid downtown Geneva. You can't appreciate it from the entrance, which is like a courtyard between a bar and another building, leading to an open space. Riverside is unassuming and seems small, but much more spacious inside. Riverside is right on the Fox River, with the back door leading you to a boardwalk along the edge of the river, overlooking a small dam and a short trail leading to a nearby park. Riverside's reception took place on the enclosed deck, with splendid panoramic views of the river it faces. The reception had about 100 people, which is about the capacity of the enclosed deck. The deck has bare brick walls adorned with trellises and garden-style decor, very European looking as well. There were more open tables at Riverside, but they were left open for guests to mingle away from the music on the deck. The reception began with platters of cheese, crackers and fruit appetizers. My favorite was crisp flatbread studded with all sorts of grains. When it was time for dinner, they began with a deliciously creamy chicken soup and a colorful salad. I could have downed a few bowls of each. The salad in particular had fancy young greens, dried cranberries, mandarin orange wedges, and my favorite - brown sugar encased walnut pieces, all topped with a balsamic vinegar dressing for a palate-pleasing array of texture, color, and sweet and sour flavors. Attention to detail was certainly there, like the creamy herb butter and sweetened butter displayed in perfect swirls on separate dishes to accompany the bread baskets. The main course consisted of chicken breast and red potatoes, also excellent. Service at each table was prompt and efficient. We were blown away by the beauty of the enclosed deck, the view, and of course the food. After dinner, it's nice to come out and get a look at the river at night, the street and bridge studded in lights, take a stroll on a warm summer night and come back to Riverside for a few more drinks and some cheerful company. Every detail of our wedding day went off without a hitch (even with nonstop rain!!) and so many of our friends and family have told us it was the most beautiful and unique wedding they have ever been too. Not to mention the rave reviews about the food! Best wedding food hands down. We booked the lower level and I was very nervous how our indoor ceremony and guest list size of 130 would fit. We held our wedding reception at Riverside Receptions in June 2017. We were extremely happy with our experience from beginning to end! Everyone in their office is friendly, helpful, and genuinely wants you to have the event of your dreams. We were looking for a venue with gorgeous views, delicious food, and a price point that we could afford. Riverside Receptions delivered on all accounts! We reserved the second floor for our reception with the floor to ceiling panoramic windows overlooking the Fox River. THE VIEW IS SPECTACULAR! We fell in love with the view immediately and our guests are still talking about how picturesque the venue was. There was plenty of free parking for our guests and the guests of the wedding below us. We did not see or hear the other wedding at all. The only way we knew that there were there was from booking and the security guard guiding guests to the correct event. While searching for a venue, we knew that we wanted to have a band play and that we didn't want to be told to turn down the volume because of another wedding. This was not a problem at all! We couldn't hear them and they couldn't hear us. As a bride on a budget, I greatly appreciated that Riverside offered us the option to use one of their birdcages for cards, their cake server, and a variety of centerpiece options. This was a big deal for me because I wanted beautiful décor, but I did not want to store 18 lanterns after the wedding was over. We used their lanterns and floating candles as part of our centerpieces. They offer the option to have flower petals with these, but we opted to have our florist create arrangements that used these pieces. Some of their centerpiece options have a small fee, but we found that it was still cheaper than us buying all of the item ourselves. We primarily worked with Frances throughout our wedding planning process. Frances is very knowledgeable about the wedding industry and was happy to answer all of our questions - and always in a timely fashion. She consistently took great care in the details that we had planned for our day. She was also familiar with all of our vendors, which helped everything go smoothly throughout our reception. She was open to new ideas and offered insight how to make our vision a reality - while still having a fully functional event. She made everything easy for us. With Frances on your side, there is no need to hire an event coordinator. She was wonderful! Chef Amy is the head chef at Riverside Receptions, AND SHE IS A ROCK STAR! We met Chef Amy at our tasting and we were blown away with her food and willingness to make our dinner spectacular. She was honest when answering our questions about the menu and willing to make recommendations. (Thank you Chef Amy for the tip to serve the Swedish meatballs table side for that tasty sauce!) We did have some dietary restrictions - Groom was allergic to shellfish, father of the bride is on a kidney diet, and a vegan in the family - Amy handled these without issue and without sacrificing flavor. Our friends and family still talk about how good the food was! Trust us, they wouldn't say it if they didn't mean it! Additionally, she knew that we were worried about not getting to eat the yummy appetizers during cocktail hours because we would be at pictures. So she had small plates of the appetizers brought to the bridal suite! We were THRILLED! Then during dinner they kept the bride and groom meals hot while we were greeting all of our tables. The food and service that we received was incredible! If given the option to "do it all again", we would definitely choose Riverside Receptions all over again. Riverside Receptions is exceptional. Don't even waste your time looking at other venues if you want to get married in the Geneva area. We had our ceremony and reception there in March of 2019, and everything was perfect. The only reason it has taken me so long to write this review is because I've been worried I won't be able to do them justice, but I will try my best. The wonderful staff are so friendly, knowledgeable, and responsive, and they will gently guide you through the process from start to finish. Throwing the perfect reception/party is all they do, and they have it down to a science, yet make it look like art. That's one of the many advantages you get when you book your event here. This isn't a restaurant or gallery, etc. with a back room that is trying to be an event space; this is a one-stop shop of event-planning excellence. Amy, Frances, and Jessica are so helpful and positive, they want to help make your dream event come true. Everything is so well organized, and they make it simple for you make sure all of your bases are covered. They know what questions to ask and think of all the little details you might overlook or not think to plan for. Our day-of-coordinator Neal was also a godsend. He made sure everything ran smoothly and again, asked questions I wouldn't have thought to ask. He was our point of communication with our band/emcee, photographer, and florist to be our eyes and ears when we were getting ready/occupied. His service is invaluable because you as the bride(s) or groom(s) simply will not have time to do/oversee everything yourself that day. Also bar/waitstaff is top-notch and were so attentive, ensuring every one of our guests was comfortable. Speaking of value, I don't think Riverside can be beat. The venue itself is gorgeous, with all of the amenities of a banquet hall, yet none of the cookie-cutterness/tackiness. This place has charm/character for days. Also so many places will nickel and dime you with linens, chair upgrades, etc. Not Riverside. Their packages include linens, chiavari chairs, centerpieces, 4-course meal, your cake, their expert coordinators/staff (priceless), and so much more for a very reasonable price. Also I know all the reviews talk about how amazing the food is. They are 100% correct. All of our guests raved about their meals, not one complaint. Even my cousin who is a professional chef couldn't believe how good his steak was and was so impressed that all 200 guests were served their food at roughly the same time, hot and delicious. In summary, do yourself a favor and book Riverside and some of their preferred vendors for your next event. You will not regret it! ***We had Riverside do a brunch the day after our wedding for our out of town guests, and it was delicious! I can't rave enough about this place. Riverside made everything so easy. Included in the price of food per person was the bar price, the cake, the decorations. They worked with a bakery so you got to choose your cake. And let me tell you, this bakery was phenomenal. They do a special thing when they serve the head table first. It's choreographed and pretty neat. It has two floors, the downstairs seats less people than the upstairs. We had the upstairs and it was the perfect amount of room. The whole back wall is windows overlooking the Fox River. It makes the room feel even bigger than it is! I am pretty sure you can do your ceremony here too. (if you have a very small guest list.) The upstairs has the special bride's bathroom suite. I think any bride should have their own private bathroom! There is parking very close by so this isn't an issue. The wait staff was awesome, the bartender was super cute and friendly, and the planners were very helpful. Like most wedding receptions sites, if you want a summer wedding, you should probably book early. I would highly recommend coming to take a look at Riverside next time you are planning a wedding, retirement party, or any kind of event that includes feeding and boozing a good number of people, especially if you want something a little different. We searched high & low for a unique spot to hold our wedding reception. We wanted something different than the typical banquet facility and Riverside Receptions was perfect. I just had my wedding ceremony and reception at the Riverside last weekend and it was amazing! They took care of everything and were very helpful and informative throughout the entire planning process. We had over 200 guests so we rented the whole building and the change in venue from room to room was breathtaking. The building has exposed brick, rich wood, fireplaces, and ceiling to floor windows. If you are looking for a site that feels special and different from your typical wedding reception, this is it. We held our ceremony in the garden room and it was arranged breathtakingly beautiful. The day went from fully sunny skies to torrential rainpour during the ceremony and it was still pretty. We had dinner about 830 and the view out the window of the room upstairs of the sunset on the dam was gorgeous. Guests commented on how much they liked the place and how good the food was! And, the staff that night was amazing. Jorge was exceptionally attentive and Olivia (the waitress who must have been assigned to me all night) was exceptional. The staff as a whole was friendly and inviting as is the decor and feeling of the entire site. On top of all that, it was very reasonable in comparison to other venues in the area. P.S. The cake (included) is done by The Cakery in Aurora. When we met with the baker, we remembered seeing him in The Great Cake Off on the FoodNetwork (or something of the like). He made us a great cake that had different layer and colors, it was very pretty and exactly what I asked for! Not the 'included cake' I was expecting! I attended a wedding here in October 2012. Let me just say this place gets 5 Stars for their excellent food! Normally, when I think of wedding food, I think "Meh, I'm hungry so I'll eat it". This place easily cleared my already low expectations and went above and beyond! Their appetizer cheese spread was so delicious with a nice glass of wine. I was almost full when they started handing out the warm appetizers (I still ate some of them though since they were equally as tasty). So by the time I sat down to eat my meal I was not extremely hungry. I had gotten the vegetarian meal which was a butternut squash ravioli. This was THE BEST wedding meal I have ever eaten. Let's just say I needed to let out my dress by the end of the night. Several people around me also raved about the filet and chicken meal. The rest of the reception area seemed quaint and clean. It had a spectacular view of the river and had a nice size dance floor. It did seem a little claustrophobic since the ceiling was lower than I'm used to and had many load bearing beams that cut off view of the whole room. If you like a more old-school and antique kind of place with a homey atmosphere, I would suggest this place. read more

I've been here for receptions for several events. The wait staff is helpful and the food is generally very good. Last go around, my husband got a delicious-looking steak and I received a tasty butternut squash ravioli in cream sauce with primavera-style summer vegetables. The lemon sorbet was also a nice touch and there was a sweet table that was just divine. I do have a few issues with this place, which may or may not be a concern, depending on the type of event you are hosting. 1. The bar leaves out a tip jar. I find this tacky and greedy. I'm sure the people who rent the facilities have gratuities built in to their bill, yet the bartenders expect even more from guests? 2. The room where they host the receptions that overlooks the river is gorgeous. The view is fantastic, but the drawback is it can be quite cold. 3. The brides room is super tiny, more of a nicely decoration broom closet. If your guests not seeing you before the ceremony is a big issue for you, you'll want to wait in the car that brought you there. 4, The layout of the bar makes it pretty easy for guests to hang out there rather than forcing them back into the reception room where the DJ and dancing takes place. This can encourage people to just linger around for drinks rather than dance. read more

I came here for a friend's wedding on a Saturday night in November. We had a great time, and this is a great venue. I loved that the reception hall was right on the river. It is really pretty to look outside and see the river and the historic little town. So charming. There is an outside area that I imagine would be really pretty in the summer, but it was cold out, so we couldn't enjoy it. This couple had both their ceremony and reception here, which can sometimes make for a long wait time and guests pushed into small spaces while they ready the next room, but this was done flawlessly here. There is a separate bar area outside of the reception room and the ceremony room, so that's where everyone stayed as the chairs were moved. I actually really liked the separate cocktail hour area. The food was delicious. We had soup, salad, and a chicken dish. I was full by the end! the appetizers during cocktail hour were really good too. My favorite had to be the bacon-wrapped date - yum! The only knock against this place was the dancing area. They had to remove 3 tables (mine included) to create the dance floor. Also, as the room is long and narrow, there isn't a great place for the DJ to set up. We sat near the DJ, and for him to get the music loud enough for people on the opposite side of the room to hear, the music was REALLY loud during dinner. So loud that I couldn't hear the person sitting across from me when they talked. A person from our table actually went up to the DJ to ask him to turn it down a little, but that didn't really work. Oh, I almost forgot. About an hour before the end of the reception, the reception hall set up a coffee, biscotti, and ice cream bar. I was so impressed by the different gourmet coffees, tea packets, flavor syrups, and tons of delicious biscotti! What a great treat to end the night! read more

My wife and I just went to a wedding reception at Riverside Receptions last weekend. The venue is very nice and perfect for wedding receptions big and small. I particularly enjoyed the fact that they have their own patio on the river. After dancing, it was definitely nice to get some fresh air with a beautiful view of the river. Funny sidenote: Our table was probably the only one that noticed this, but while dinner was being served, some random guy just walked from the street onto the patio, opened up a small folding chair, and started fishing over the railing. We all started laughing and then saw a manager from the reception hall run out there, point at the private property signs, and yell at the guy until he left. I got married at the Riverside in October 2013 and I highly recommend this venue! Our coordinator, Frances, was very sweet, understanding, and easy to work with (and we sent her a gabillion questions via email too). We wanted an outdoor ceremony at their venue. It rained the majority of the day.....up to a 1/2 hour before the ceremony. Typically they would already "call it" and do the set up inside if it's raining a couple hours before the ceremony....but the Riverside carefully watched the weather and HAULED ASS to get our outdoor ceremony set up on time!!!! The food is amazing too, we got a lot of compliments on it! During their food tasting you can sample a few meals, but they are really good about mixing and matching things (within reason) to your liking. Our cake (from the Cakery which was included in our Riverside package) nailed our cake! The good kind of nailed....not the adult sexy time nailed. They even let us do a more customized cake! Anyway, the staff was very friendly, the space was totally unique, and we couldn't have had a better time. Note...we had one small issue with the venue. But I don't judge a situation by the mistake, I judge a situation on how it's handled, and Frances was amazing. Her correspondence with us to ensure we were OK was so sweet. We are having my mother in laws 60th Birthday party there this Saturday Feb. 2nd 2013. I will make a full review after the event but I just had to say that so far this place has already exceeded our expectations. Each person we have talked with, met with or emailed with have been very friendly and extremely personable. They are great to respond to my emails ( the easiest form of communication for me). So far, we are very happy with everything and after reading all of the other comments I'm sure this will be a night to remember! I will add more to this post once we have thrown the party=) *i just realized I never came back and updated. Our night here was amazing! It was beautiful and people were very happy with the service here. The workers here were very polite and asked us numerous times if we needed anything at all. Also, I mis counted the amount of tables we would need and we needed an extra two. I had only bought enough center pieces for my original count and had two tables with no center pieces. I highly recommend Riverside Receptions for a small or medium sized wedding. We had our reception at Riverside in early November and received lots of compliments on the beautiful view of the river and the hearty portions of delicious food (including a lovely cake from The Cakery). Most importantly, their approach to customer service is stellar. Frances and Tina always quickly responded to phone calls and emails, no matter how little the detail and how far away the day. Thanks to the steady communication throughout planning, my wedding was a breeze (at least when it came to the reception). I dropped off my contributions to the wedding decor in advance and they set everything up for us. On our wedding day, the coordinator checked in with us just enough to ensure everything was running smoothly without distracting us from the important moments and our guests. She was back again at the end of the reception to help me box up all of the items we brought into the reception as well as our gifts to make sure nothing was left behind. Wonderful venue for a wedding or shower. Great food and unbelievable view of the fox river. I've been to Riverside for several showers (at least 5, including my own wedding shower), the latest was today. The pricing is competitive and they partner with The Cakery for cake ordering. Today we had cream of chicken soup, tortellini and chicken breast in cream sauce, cake and cinnamon ice cream. The ice cream was delicious and a nice deviation from plain old vanilla. They are very accommodating with extra tables for event games/gifts. The waitstaff was on top of things as well. I was, however, surprised that today they brought 2 different parties into the room to check it out as a possible venue (I assume) while our event was going on. Overall, amazing venue that I recommend to everyone and will continue to use myself! read more

We were married at Riverside in October 2014 and were so happy with everything. From our first look at the venue to our initial meeting to the planning process to the day itself, everything ran smoothly and went off so well. We mostly worked with Frances who was so friendly and easy to communicate with and had so many great ideas while also being very open to our suggestions. Everyone we ever spoke to was so accommodating and friendly from the little requests and changes to the big ones. Norma, who ran our wedding in the evening, did such a great job too. The venue itself is gorgeous - the lower level has a great classic feel and the upper level has floor to ceiling windows with an amazing view of the river outside. The dance floor is right by the window creating a great atmosphere. We had a two long tables in front of the window for the bridal party and then my bride and I had a circle table in the center, but there were a few options. It was a great setup. We got married outside which looked beautiful too. It's just a very classy looking place. The view and setup were a big part of our decision, so we were pleased with how easy the staff was to work with too. There's plenty of parking and having a hotel across the street was really convenient. There's also a bar close by which was perfect for after-party festivities. The food was delicious too, from the appetizers all the way up to the main course. They also do this great presentation as the food comes out for the bridal party - I felt like we were at Downton Abbey or something. There are plenty of great photo options outside too. Our wedding reception at Riverside was everything we dreamed of- the service and venue were perfect. We chose Riverside because the food is delicious, and the view is fantastic (I enjoy the natural light here when many reception halls have no windows). Riverside is fairly pricey, but I believe you get what you pay for. The gentlemen who was in charge the evening of our event was great- frequently checking in and personally bringing us and our parents beverages and letting us know of the events. We did decide to do a split menu, and there is an extra charge for that, which is a bummer- but I think most reception halls do that now. We also got married on a Friday evening which gave us a bit of a discount. They were great at answering questions via e-mail or phone throughout the process, and really worked with our time table (we made our own placecards and favors so we needed a couple extra days to get them ready). The only thing I really don't like is the level of bar packages- I think it should just be top shelf for how much people are paying, not tons of extra money per person for higher levels of liquor. But that is my only complaint, and it is not enough to take away a star. Our wedding was fabulous and memorable, and I would highly recommend this location to anyone! read more

I attended a wedding reception here as a bridesmaid back in February and had an excellent time overall. The food was great (my favorite of the night being the bacon wrapped dates appetizer), the reception hall itself is spacious and cozy, and the service from all of the staff was top notch. I heard it was a little pricey to get a dessert table done by the venue itself, so they let the bride's mother bring her own sweets. However, she still had to pay a hefty fee. My only other complaint was that the chicken served at dinner was a little dry and overcooked. I suppose I should have gotten the steak, but being that I did not pay, it didn't really matter to me. Overall, though I didn't see any real issues with the place and would recommend it to anyone getting married or hosting any big events in the area. It has a nice view of the river and has the option for indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a full bar with excellent service there as well. read more

We had our wedding here in the summer of 2014 and it was beautiful in every way. We had an outdoor ceremony on a sunny day in the courtyard, and it was so charming and perfect. Our indoor reception room overlooked the river and everyone kept commenting how beautiful the view was. I loved the exposed brick walls, floor-to-ceiling windows, and overall charm of this venue. My husband was really picky about where we would have our wedding, and he immediately loved Riverside Receptions. The staff was also extremely easy to work with during the wedding planning process, and the food was delicious. Frances was our coordinator and she was so helpful and accommodating. I can't think of one thing that went wrong or didn't meet or exceed our expectations. To this day, people tell us how beautiful the setting was for our wedding. Definitely recommended! read more

Riverside is your one-stop shop wedding venue and made our day magical! As a COVID bride, I planned my wedding back in early 2020. Throughout all of the changes and regulations, Riverside had open communication and helped me reschedule my date while still honoring original prices. Talk about honesty and integrity!! On the day of our reception, our celebration was literally a dream come true-- from the incredible food we got many compliments on, to the decorated tables utilizing the venue's centerpiece options, and great view of the Fox River, ourselves and our guests had a great time! Amy is a great person to plan your event with and Tina and crew are fantastic executing your event day of. Riverside is second to none for weddings for the value alone-- custom cake from The Cakery, choice of centerpieces, delicious food options, bar packages, and the Sunday incentives are amazing! Riverside is beautiful and was the perfect venue for my wedding. I loved the privacy of a wedding at a reception center instead of a public place like a hotel. The location is fabulous too - right across from the lovely Herrington Inn (you need to stay at this hotel!), down the street from many cute Geneva bars and restaurants, and right on the river where there are paths and parks and beautiful scenery. I really appreciate how Frances worked with my wedding planner and I to go through all the details of my event. She was very flexible about decor and other special requests I had. Everyone I spoke to here was friendly and knowledgeable. The chef is amazing and so friendly! All of the food and drink attendants were fun and professional during my reception. We had our ceremony outside in the courtyard. It was absolutely stunning with the trees changing and my flowers out and Riverside's chivari chairs. The weather was gorgeous for us, but if it hadn't been, we had a backup space inside where we would have had the ceremony. No stress! I am confident that there is not a location in any nearby area where I would have rather gotten married. It was perfect. My wedding planner (based in downtown Chicago) was amazed by the low prices of a suburbs wedding :) read more

Place itself was great however the food was lacking be appearance and taste. They'd really be better off doing baked mostaccioli, sausage, or maybe like vesuvio chicken. My date and myself Steak dinner tasted strange and was pretty over cooked, yuck barely ate half. Chicken with wild rice place person next to me looked very blah. 1 bartender was kinda lame and boy was he was looking for his tip each and every time. Nice place but not sure its worth what you pay for. read more
