Rivertown, Rivertown, Rivertown. What can I say? When I attended college at UNA this was a regular spot for me. You could walk down from the University, grab a cup of coffee or tea and maybe a snack (I was partial to the blueberry muffins) and get some work done or people watch the whoever would happen to pass by. Rivertown is locally owned and operated and is a favorite for most locals. It hasn't changed much since I graduated back in 2014 but it seems like they've expanded their services a bit by sometimes doing dinners and special tastings. As I've said, it's been years since I visited so I'll speak to my most recent experience. I was headed home to Birmingham after a short visit with some friends when I decided to grab some breakfast before leaving town. Rivertown was of course the natural choice with their small but impactful food menu and delicious coffee and tea. Parking was easy enough (which can sometimes be difficult) and they weren't busy at all. You just walk up to the counter, order and they'll call out your number and put your order on the side counter when it's ready. I went for the Daybreak which is a breakfast sandwich made up of artisan bread, turkey, a fried egg, sharp white cheddar, spinach and garlic mayo. I also got a green tea and a muffin. I couldn't help myself, I had to have the blueberry muffin! It didn't take long to get my muffin and tea and my sandwich followed soon after. What a delight! In my old haunt, with my new friends enjoying a locally sourced meal! The sandwich was very hearty and filling. I ended up having to take the egg off so I could actually finish it! The muffin was DELICIOUS! They make them in house and really know what they're doing! So good and such a good experience! I have to comment on the ambience of this place as well. It's owned by a quirky local couple who love food and the Shoals area. The tables and chairs are old antiques that don't match but it adds such a homey feel to the restaurant. They walls are full of posters for local events and art from all the local talent. It gives off such a an air of creativity and welcome. It's a haven not only for college students but for locals of all kinds. read more

First of all, tried to order a banana and the lady looked at me like I had 4 eyes. Rude from the start. Ordered food. It was edible. Walked to the back to sit down, the chairs are so uncomfortable you can hardly sit down for longer than 10 minutes. Great time in Florence- but terrible uninviting experience here. read more

The website to this place states that they are open until 11 pm on Friday nights and we have never been able to catch this place open at 6 pm, little long 11 pm. If they are unable to be accountable for their business hours as stated then they need to update their website so that people are not driving across town to only find the business closed every time. read more

Honestly, the worst experience. If they require masks no entry, why did the person working there not have his mask?? It is absolutely hypocritical for a sign to say no mask no entry while a worker there has no masks on. The food was good but they're hypocritical and not COVID safe. Rules for me but not for you? Alabama hipster coffee shop. If their not the only coffee shop is n town open keep looking. I dined in with a cafe latte and a day break wrap. Coffee served in a a foam coated cup. Pulled the lid to see there was coffee art and a light layer of foam. Daybreak wrap was corse and cool. Dining in. Ignore the food crumbs on chairs and floor, hipsters don't identify well with brooms. read more

Okay, I usually agree with B.R. but man, not this time. What do you call a coffee shop that does not serve good coffee? . .. ... A wanna be coffee shop! and thats what Rivertown is to me. My wife is a coffee fiend... and I mean 3 or 4 cups a day fiend. So we naturally visit a lot of coffee shops and most of them more than once. We have been to rivertown on more than four occasions and I have never been impressed with the coffee. The place is cool, don't get me wrong, with an awesome hole in the wall... accoustic music playing.... underground scene... ambiance it has everything a good coffee shop needs to have the look. But the coffee..... I have had Latte's, Chai Tea's, Cappuccino's, House coffee's and everything else here and I am yet to be impressed. Even my White Chocolate Cappuccino was not very good..... WHITE CHOCOLATE!!! who has ever had anything with a white chocolate flavor and didn't like it? It will really make you wander about a place when something like that doesn't taste good. So the bottom line is.... go to Mcgraws coffee house a few blocks away and bring your coffee over to Rivertown to hear some good music or meet some good people. read more

I love rivertown, they have the best coffee and atmosphere in florence. but, they need to get better ventilation. it gets so smokey in here that my eyes water so bad, a tear literally just dropped on the table. sometimes it's not that bad but other times they completely smoke you out. you never know what you'll get. read more

This place turns out sandwiches that are, unequivocally, the best in Florence. Hell, probably one of the best you've had ANYWHERE. It's remarkable and you should go give it a shot. Update: finally made it back for lunch about 3 weeks ago and have been several times since. Poblano Pimento and cheese on wheat is good. Breakfast pimento and cheese with bacon is also really good. Heard good things about the buffalo chicken wrap as well, but haven't gotten brave enough yet to stray from what I know I like! I'm sure you can't go wrong with anything. read more

LOVE Rivertown Coffee. Such friendly staff and such a chill atmosphere. I love how the patio was added outside so now our dogs can chill out there with us while we enjoy our time there. If you haven't tried their muffins yet - you're missing out!!! They have weird ones like "chocolate zucchini" or something like that and I've never had a bad muffin there. This place is great for breakfast - what a gem! Their drip coffee is amazing, such an interesting, complex flavor. I normally take cream in my coffee, but I'm so glad I waited & tasted it first. I ended up skipping the cream because the flavor of the actual coffee itself was so delicious! Their breakfast sandwiches are awesome. I could tell the bacon was top-quality. And the sourdough, too. Don't be fooled by the "coffeeshop" vibe. This place has really good breakfast. You should definitely get something to eat off the breakfast menu when you stop in - it will be awesome! They might want to cut the name "Coffee" out of their business name, because the coffee and other drinks are terrible. I don't know how. The quality of this place (food and drinks) is not worth the prices, even though the prices are fairly low. The customer service and being personable to customers is not there either; I don't know if it's a style they're going for by being rude and in-personable but they have that down. I keep trying the place, wanting it to be good, but each time it disappoints me. read more

We stopped at this quaint coffee shop on our way home and were so glad we did. It has a funky, urban vibe but us middle aged patrons felt right at home too. I had the pimiento cheese, spinach, bacon and tomato....it was offered as a sandwich but they graciously turned it into an omelet with the fabulous homemade bread toasted on the side. My spouse had the black bean wrap. My omelette was delicious! The pimiento cheese melted and was so creamy and delicious. I was sad to become full and couldn't finish it. Vegans run to this restaurant. Order the black bean breakfast wrap with guacamole, no egg no cheese. It is wonderful. I'm just visiting town but wish I would take this place home with me. The service is wonderful. The place makes you feel at home. It is across from the First Presbyterian Church if you have trouble finding it. I missed it once and had to turn around and go back. No Starbucks in Florence/Muscle Shoals so when I was in town for a baseball tournament I needed to find a decent cafe latte. I tried Rivertown and boy, was I shocked. I had easily the best latte I've had in YEARS. I am a coffee snob and brew my own at home from beans mail ordered from Peet's. The barista at Rivertown clearly knew his stuff, but they also must be using very fresh, quality beans. Don't hesitate to try their espresso drinks here! read more

Absolutely the best coffee shop in the Shoals. In addition to the perfectly pulled espresso and coffee drinks, this place has some of the best food in town. The black bean breakfast wrap is my favorite but I have yet o be disappointed by anything I have ordered. If you come in during lunch and they have tomato soup, do yourself a favor and don't miss the grilled cheese/tomato soup combo. It's magically simple and so satisfying. read more
