I joined my friends for dinner at the Riverview Cafe on the water in Sneeds Ferry. Never knew this was here. They raved about the food. I had spicy boneless wings since I am not a big fish person. They were spicy good but I took half of them home and microwaved them the next day and no, no.... don't do that because they tasted different and I threw them away. So eat all them while you are there. Two friends had the seafood chowder which they said was excellent. One said it had yummy scallops in it. One friend had salmon, scallops, okra and potato and again said excellent. Two people had the salmon with shrimp, green beans, and salad. Both agreed the shrimp and salmon were cooked perfectly. I did not hear one complaint. They also had hush puppies and I am glad I got there after they had eaten all but the three I had, because I would have eaten all of them and not shared. They were that good! The place was busy for a Wednesday night and the service was good. This is about a 45 minute drive for me but if I ever have friends that love seafood I would bring them here. read more

Local restaurant offering seafood and more. We had a party of four. Started with the calamari as an appetizer. Was fine. Nothing outstanding. I chose the 8 oz ribeye and baked potato with shrimp. Good choice. Kids went with the the fried shrimp platters, which they devoured. Wife chose the crab cakes. Sorry folks, but she was disappointed. Overcooked. Overall a mixed review. There are three parts to this review: the food, the location, the service. The food: 4/5 The food is pretty darn yummy. The seafood is fresh, the hush puppies are the best in the area, and the pies are excellent (and homemade). You can't go wrong eating the food at Riverview. The location: 4/5 The location is way off the beaten path. This is mostly a local-only type place. Tourists will not "happen by" this place; they'd have to be looking for it. Or like us--be told about it. We discovered this gem after a few years of visiting the island because a local clues us onto its existence. There isn't a lot of advertising and I get the impression they like it that way. The service: 3/5 The service is fast and friendly, assuming you meet a certain demographic. I LOVE Riverview, so when I read some other Yelp reviews claiming minorities were being treated differently, I didn't want to believe it. However, during this last visit, I saw it with my own eyes. One of the older servers referred to the KKK a couple of times, called Obama, Biden, and Harris the "Muslim Brotherhood," and seemed indifferent to the fact that her comments were said within close earshot of a black man (or any of us). I don't know if this has always been happening and I was just oblivious or if this behavior is limited to this one server. I do not visit the Topsail area enough to know which servers are new. Regardless, this experience really did put a damper on my enthusiasm about Riverview. read more

This was my third visiting since the early 2000's and the food and service are always great. It is my go to place when I visit North Carolina. Everything tastes so fresh and well prepared. Tonight I tried the creamy crab soup, crab legs, and my favorite...fried oysters. Loved everything!!! Always love the service as well. Sat at the counter to avoid a wait. Our family came in for Memorial Day and got there just before the dinner rush began. We were seated quickly and our server, Melissa was great! She was friendly, fast, and attentive. Melissa brought out our drinks and complimentary hush puppies as we waited for short time for our 1 lb of shrimp. They were cooked perfectly! So of course we had to order another lb! We also had the seafood chowder which was flavorful and had a generous portion of crab meat, shrimp, and potatoes. Our mahi mahi was a bit overcooked but the scallops that came with were good. The fried whole tilapia was crunchy on the outside with soft meat on the inside! Delicious! The fried shrimp was tasty as well! We went because of the great reviews, so maybe we expected too much. The place was packed, but since we were a two top, the wait wasn't long; however, we were seated in the bar, so there was no scenic view. They brought a basket of hushpuppies, they were fine but nothing special. We had two servers, both were very nice. We ordered the boom boom shrimp appetizer, and it was good. We ordered platters, so we had soft shell crabs, buttered shrimp, scallops, deviled crab, squash, and green beans. One word describes it all, bland. No seasoning, spices, or sauces. Went to see a buddy that lives in Surf City. He was showing me the area and we stopped by Riverview Cafe for a late lunch. There was a big parking lot across the street for ez parking. We walked right in at 2:30pm and had a great meal. Started out with the hush puppies and ten minutes later the Very fresh fried shrimp, flounder and squash arrived and the meal was delicious. The service was perfect. With the laid back atmosphere and good company, it was the perfect lunch, very enjoyable with no stress at all. This was my first time eating at a restaurant since the pandemic started, but I felt very safe and I had a great time. I went to eat with some friends. 7 of the 8 people were there and they wouldn't seat us. Then once we were finally seated, we got a different waitress than everyone else. The waitress that originally refused to seat us that was helping the other table next to us, "Morgan" (was told her name by the table that came after us, that was served before us, that I happened to know), kept giving one of the people at our table side glances that made our whole table uncomfortable. The prices for lunch are that of dinner prices most other places and the food was mediocre. There were people that came in after us and got their food and left long before us. The only saving grace was our actual waitress, "Linda" who we all loved. Needless to say, I won't be back. read more

A fee to use money I already have. Small businesses can charge you a fee to use credit but they cannot charge a fee to use your debit card even if it is run as credit. Riverview is a cozy spot for some delicious, fairly priced seafood with a comfortable ambiance near Topsail. They have a huge selection of all kinds of seafood: fish, shrimp, scallops, oysters, clams and much more. I like the simple preparation and portion sizes are HUGE! I got the broiled scallops and have never seen so many scallops on one plate. Definitely get some hush puppies and clams casino. They are delicious and addictive! I was not as impressed with the pies as everyone else...got the key lime and chocolate. Both tasted kind of processed/fake? Perhaps I got the wrong ones. We went in on a rainy evening wanting to snag a snack. Upon entering we were greeted and the staff was really friendly. We decided to take a seat in the main dining room. After placing our drink order our waitress brought us warm hush puppies that we quickly devoured. I decided on a cup of clam chowder and the Bang Bang Shrimp. My boyfriend ordered a hot dog with coleslaw and potato wedges. I really enjoyed both my clam chowder and the Bang Bang Shrimp!
