I make my annual pilgrimage to the springs not for the delightful soak but for the Thai food. This is the first place I ever had Thai and it will forever be dear to my heart. The Tom Kha Kai is simply the best I have ever had, and I have tried this soup from more than 20 other Thai places. The flavor profile is unusual with the lime leaves and lemon grass, I love the bright fresh flavor of this coconut milk soup but it might not be for you if you don't like extremes in flavor. I love it when I am sick because I can still taste it even when I am all stuffed up. The yellow curry is hearty and cozy, it really hits the spot after a soak in the pools. My favorite dish here is the Lard Nar. Don't be fooled by the word Lard. Lol. Nothing of the sort. It is deep fried crunchy noodles in a nest, topped with a chicken stir-fry and gravy(sauce). Other items we have tried and love are the Phad Thai, Phad See-iw, Pineapple fried rice, Thai Fried rice, Larb Kai, and Beef Salad. I highly recommend all of them. I want to address the service as it seems that is where their negative reviews come from. In the winter months they are funneling a lot of people through a tiny space and I am sure they get frustrated. In my many, many visits I have seen customers behave very badly often. I see WAY too many people shoving their way into the little restaurant while waiting for a table because they are wet and cold. They are in the way of the staff and don't seem to care. They stand in front of the register and in front of the kitchen entrance. Then they are upset when they are asked repeatedly to step out of the way. Which I am sure after the 3rd time does sound sharp. I will never excuse poor behavior to customers, I just wanted to add some context. I always greet my server there, by acknowledging how hard their job often is, tell them they are doing a good job, and I am happy to wait patiently for the food I know will be incredible. Ok let's start with the food, my wings after the second bite were bloody they got Sent back and came out the same still bloody! The noodles were 6/10, service was good 8/10 ambiance was alright they were at closing time but stayed open for us then others started arriving so i guess that was a good thing for business, maybe they had cut the grease off is why the wings were bloody I'm not sure but the side sauce for it was decent read more

This was easily some of the worst food we have ever eaten. We used to come here every time we came to Lava and it was delicious. Upon asking, the staff told us they had changed ownership and are now owned by whoever owns the pizza place in town. First problem, we ordered take out and were told 20 minutes. Came back 20 min later and were told 15 more minutes. There was no one in there and we didn't see anyone waiting for take out. I think they needed that extra 15 minutes to destroy the meat by overlooking it. We ordered: Won ton soup: flavorless broth with cilantro and soggy wonton. Tom kha Kai soup: we were given a DIFFERENT soup altogether. It was greasy and full of tomatoes and baby corn and not much else. A bit of dry chicken. Phad thai: best thing we got, but kind of sweet Green curry: super watery and lacking flavor. They actually used frozen peas, carrots and corn for the veggie in this! The pork was ok, a bit overdone. Masaman curry: only had potatoes, no other veggies at all, the beef in it was inedible and the curry tasted weird. Terrible. Chicken Satay: basically chicken jerky with bland but salty peanut sauce. Yellow curry: ok but 1/2 the potatoes were hard and 1/2 were soft. We will never eat here again. They need to stick to pizza. Our friends went there instead and said it was decent pizza. read more

For years all I've heard from people is I just have to try this place and how amazing it is (was...sold recently). Guess I shouldn't waited so long. This was a sad experience to say the least. The place is majorly outdated in appearance and ambience. Felt like it was pulled from the Bates Motel era. The wait was exhausting and the place only had two other parties seating. One party had waited for almost an hour for his entree. So. Long that the other guest had finished eating prior to him just getting his meal to go once it arrived. The food was interesting. The meats were tough, the fried rice was bathed in ketchup, the chow mein was drenched in brown sugar and the curry was milky and sweet. The spring rolls were on point, the servings plentiful with lots of protein and the prices were decent. Short staffing, lack of server training (dirty tables everywhere), extremely slow order turnarounds and lack of actual Thai flavor. The only reason I'm not giving it one star is for our poor server. She was so overwhelmed and frustrated, yet kept her composure and remained friendly and courteous. 3.6/10 Hopefully they can get it together and turn things around. I'm not sure what happened with the previous owners, I didn't see anything in the news but I'm hoping they retired comfortably. The food hasn't been the same, like there's no heart into it anymore, it's just a checklist. This last visit I tried the ordering online app to give them ample time for my order since I know they are always swamped. They said 30-40 minutes but it was closer to an hour. I really wanted to love this place...but couldn't. Location: love that it's easy to find, get to and park! Hard to miss a restaurant that could easily be mistaken for a gas station! Ambiance: lots of authentic Thai decor and it was good-sized, with tables nicely spread out. But upon entrance, there was a certain 'odor' - can't figure out what it was, not food - more like wet clothes left too long or - my husband says, like a garage, which would make sense since it once was a gas station. But we got over it as we were starved. Service: we were greeted and seated quickly with menus. I'd say it was pretty busy compared to what a typical Wednesday early evening probably seems like. So, it was initially on the slower side in terms of order taking - but after our food came out pretty quickly. Food: This is where we were a little sad. Red chicken curry is typically my family's favorite dish - but this was definitely not. It was not terrible, but the curry was a bit thin and seemed watered down with very little flavor, much less any spice at all. What was good - crunchy broccoli and clean chicken breast?... Pad-See-Ew was similar in lacking taste, but at least the broccoli was nice and fresh & crunchy, again. Crab fried rice - too much egg and not enough(if any) actual crab. This review is for the food, it's worth enduring some awkward service issues. This is a locally owned and run business. Their specialty is serving delicious food quickly. They have a great selection of options that are super flavorful. Over the years we have come here numerous times and the best thing is the reliable aspect of the food. This restaurant can accommodate up to 50 people full-on. Every table filled and it's often packed to capacity. It's right near the hot pools and a hidden gem. Yellow curry is bursting with savory flavor. The chicken cashew nut is so damn good. The vegetables are cooked perfectly and plenty of chicken. The pad Thai with shrimp was excellent. 6 pieces of shrimp was a bit disappointing but there was plenty of food. The sticky rice and peanut sauce is also super yummy. We arrived at the end of the lunch rush so we got served pretty quickly. The service is not warm or friendly but it sufficient to get the food ordered and delivered. I'm ok to forgive them some social Grace. The food is not expensive. Highly recommend you come here to eat and don't get all wound up if you show up and the place is packed. read more

We got thai tea and thai coffee- both were extremely sweet . We got Tom kha soup, pad Thai and sweet and sour chicken. The soup was also very sweet and off and didn't taste fresh. The noodles was way over cooked and felt like glue, and the pad Thai sauce they used or made tasted like burnt toast and tomato's. It was bizarrely bad. The sweet and sour chicken I didn't personally taste, but our friend said it was fine but the vegetables were barely cooked, Do better! Wings were OK but nothing to right home about, but I did like the sauce. The fried rice was a huge disappointment. It had cooked tomato chunks in it which totally overwhelmed the flavor and I never even tasted basil. The Green Curry was good and the ginger chicken had lots of fresh veges and was good.
