Very rude owner, bordering on belligerent . I went in to hopefully pickup a purse that needed a minor repair, ( the shoulder strap reattached.) It had been 2 days shy of 4 weeks since I had brought it in. The owner just said " it hadn't been done" - hey it has only been 2 weeks" he said (but the ticket stated just shy of 4 weeks. When I asked him to return my purse (which he did) he got mad and went off on me because I woudn't wait any longer for the repair He verbally threw me out of his store saying "get out, Get out" in a very loud angry voice. When my wife went to see if they were ready, he could not find them and blamed her for wasting 40 minutes of his time looking for them. The shop owner apologized that it would be 2 weeks before they would be ready. 2 weeks later, Saturday, the shop was closed for some volunteer project by the owner. I stopped by the following Thursday to learn that the work had not been completed yet. He told me he could have them the next day, to which I replied I wouldn't be in until Saturday. TLDR: Owner lacks customer service and business management skills. I was made to feel uncomfortable and unvalued as a local patron "supporting local"... I will not be returning, I will not be paying him for treating me like that.... I really wanted to support this local business. The new owner seemed like a good guy, eager to carry on the tradition of the old Rivtin Shoe Shop, and I was happy to give him a chance. I dropped off two pairs of shoes two months ago, and he quoted me $100 for the repairs. After two weeks, I went back, but the shop was closed for the entire week. When I finally spoke to him, he mentioned a family emergency, which I understood, and promised to finish my shoes within the next week. He said he'd call, but he never did. I returned again, and he reassured me that my shoes would be ready by the end of the week. Again, no call. Weeks passed, and each time I stopped by, I heard the same excuses. Today, when I asked if I could just take my shoes back, he refused, saying they were buried under other orders. His attitude suddenly shifted, and I felt incredibly uncomfortable when I asked for my shoes back, he told me that he would be wasting time trying to find my shoes that could be "buried somewhere" ...It didn't help he had a couple of his boy friends hanging around him too... It was very awkward, I was told by one them that "it would be worth the wait" As a single woman, I left the shop feeling uneasy and undervalued, and incredibly embarrassed by the fact that I had to even ask for my damn shoes back. I really wanted to believe in him and his business, but this experience has been exhausting. Supporting local businesses is important to me, but I can't continue with this one. This new guy had my hiking boots being held hostage. I dropped them off 4/25. He said they would be ready in less than 2 weeks. It's a simple $30 glueing job which he pre-quoted. I never heard back from him 3 months later. I left 2 massages, I went to the shop twice and he's not open during hours he said he is. My 3rd call his voicemail was full. When I finally was able to be there when he was open we had to step over men's underwear that his window cleaner was using to wash windows. So bizarre. Then he ended up yelling at us because we wanted the boots back and because we expressed our disappointment with him. thought it was odd when I got there originally he had all his windows & front door behind interior curtains and had to open them for me to get in. The owner was extremely helpful by info me that he if I were to find the sole then the repair would be quickly; otherwise, months. The repairman told me he was ordering new soles but my shoes wouldn't be ready until March and would cost $120 to do. I waited until early April then stopped in to check on status. He hadn't done anything but gave the impression he would get on them immediately. Today, after 5- 1/2 months of waiting, I stopped at store to pick up the shoes and he returned them to me untouched for all that time. No explanation, no apology. I'll never go to that store again. He appears to be unable to manage and prioritize his work orders, and doesn't answer his phone. Sadly this is the most inept business I've ever encountered. On December 27, 2022 I dropped off my old Tumi briefcase that I used for years and now that I'm retired gave to my son. It had a small leather tear near one of the zippers ( about 2 inches) and gentleman told me no problem but it won't be ready for two months due his backlog of work. My son is in the service and was slated to be deployed overseas in late March, so no worries. March came, no repair yet but will be done in 2 weeks - top of the list. End of March, my son's deployed and still no case, April came and went. Early May apologized profusely and promised me would have following week. I was away out of the country and just went in this morning (June 3) and not done. I requested the bag back and took 5 minutes to find it under a pile of stuff. It's actually comical in that this is someone who is clueless in running a business. The old gentleman who ran the business for years was a true professional and a craftsman. I stoped in early April and he told me by the end of the week, so went to pick the up and they were not ready no big deal. I went back in May he told me they would be ready at the end of the day or first thing in the morning so in stoped in late afternoon the next day and he freaked out on me and said I was all set he never started any repairs and was annoyed that I came to pick up my boots after he specifically told me he was almost done and they would be ready. On October 18 I brought in a pair of shoes that needed some minor repairs. Was taken aback by the very clutter shop. The owner said it would be ready in a few days. One week later I walked in and the shoes were on the counter right where he placed them when I handed them to him unfortunately they were never repaired. He said he would get right to them later that day. I returned the following week and his shop was closed for a week. The following week I returned and and he said they would be ready later that afternoon. I told him that I could not return and would be in the following week, which I did. He could not find the shoes and kept saying that "I know I fixed them. I waited at least 25 minutes while he and another person searched the cluttered shop. Finally he found them and brought them to the counter and did they are not finished. I picked up the shoes and left. It was the 8th of November. I now realized why it took so long as he has no rhyme or reason in handling his business. He has no computer and charts everything on a tablet. He may be a good shoemaker, but he is a lousy business owner with no regard for his customers. Probably due to the fact that he is the only shoe repair shop in Manchester. P.S. I dropped off a couple of pairs of shoes and a couple of pairs of boots in June 2022. Had to repeatly call and stop in to find out what was taking so long for them to fix them. Voicemails went unreturned, when I actually spoke to someone to find out what was taking so long, I got the same response every time - "We're just getting ready to work them, they'll be done in a week." Guess how many times I heard that one only to find out that had not been worked on. By November 2022, I'd had enough and went to get them and they had only just started working on one pair of boots. It took them at least 15 minutes to find all of my shoes/boots because the place is such a disorganized mess. They also told me that they couldn't replace the soles and put flatter heels on my boots - say what?! I've never had a cobbler tell me that they can't replace my soles. I had a pair of well loved leather slippers that the sole stitching attaching it to the upper had worn away. I dropped them off at Rivtin's not knowing if he could repair them. He said he would take a look and get back to me within a few days. That was a Saturday. On Tuesday Rivtin's called and left me a message that my leather slipper had been repaired and was ready to pick up. Wow! Great service. When I arrived to pick up the item, the fee was less than expected. We had not talked price at the beginning so I was pleasantly surprised. Great service, reasonable prices, and the owner is a happy conversational man to boot. I enjoyed my chat with him. Highly recommend this business and service. Exceptional! On November 3, I took a pair of shoes in for a simple regluing of the heel rubber part to the heel. Weeks later, I went in to pick them up and he hadn't even started on them yet. I gave him another pair of work shoes that just needed new heels just the rubber part). He then said they would both be ready over the weekend. Didn't happen. I stopped in multiple times and they were never even started. Finally, I went in on January 5 to see where things were at. He spent 5 minutes rummaging around his hodgepodge of bags with customers' shoes in them before he found mine. He brought them up to the counter and - without saying a single word, ripped up the ticket and pushed them across the counter to me and then turned around to go back into his work area. RUDE. Well, I took the shoes to United Shoe Repair in Concord and in exactly a week, both pairs were done! How about that! This place has no business being in business. Two+ months and he never even started on my shoes. He kept on giving me excuses to string me along ("waiting for parts," "really busy") and he kept on giving me empty promises ("I'll get them done over the weekend," "they'll be ready next week"). I feel so lucky that I found this outstanding shoe repair shop. The workmanship is outstanding and pricing is reasonable. I buy expensive shoes, mens shoes $250-$450, they last me many years. I have a few pairs that I have had for over 20 years and they look amazing. Having a great shoe repair store to go to, extends the life of my shoes and keeps them like new.
