This review of RJQ Landscaping is a reflection of how they handle new customers. They didn't even give me the chance to review their service, but in some ways, I'm glad. A neighbor of mine hired RJQ Landscaping to redo their front yard (excavate, level, sod, irrigation, border, gravel, etc.) and it seems like they did a fairly good job. Simple and clean. They even placed a RJQ yard sign. So, I decided to reach out to them in early June of 2021 to discuss my yard project. I'd spoken to their project person over the phone and was told I would receive a call from an estimator. My project was fairly simple where I would like to create a patio on part of my undeveloped dirt backyard (~800 sq ft) to complement the rest of my 1/2 yard. I'm open to options since budget was not an issue. Possibly a DG or gravel patio and some flagstone. So three weeks after I spoke to them on the phone, I received a call from their estimator, Dave Ferrill. Dave came to my property in mid-July to discuss my plan and did some measurements. I was told they were quite busy, so I should expect a formal quote from them about two weeks later. It is now the end of October 2021 and I have not heard back from them. No phone call, text, or email. I was able to find another landscape contractor that was attentive to my needs and delivered in two weeks. So, for those of you reading, expect the same experience from RJQ Landscaping. There are plenty of others available in the area. read more

We had an immediate response to our request for a free bid which made us feel great right from the beginning. They put in all of our cement patio and side walkways at a competitive price with care, concern and quality in mind. Once the install date was chosen, the crew showed up on time which we really appreciated. We were extremely pleased with the design and the finished product. I would give a negative 100 stars if I could i have been waiting 6 months for an estimate for work to be done. All I have received are excuse after excuse And this was a friend of mine. I hired Bob and his crew to complete a major backyard project a few months ago. He and his employees were fantastic to work with. Efficient, courteous, and kept a clean, organized project site during the whole process. They were wonderful to work with. Last summer, I approached RJQ with a basic plan of what I wanted done in my backyard. I had an old swimming pool filled in the previous winter, so the yard wasn't much more than a sandy weed-patch. I drew up a plan with a patio and pergola, hoping that Bob could fill in the gaps (planting, lighting, and irrigation). After a site visit and a few emails back-and-forth, Bob sent over a quote outlining the entire project process and itemizing everything I would be paying for. Once I signed and gave him a modest deposit, his crew got to work right away, sooner than I expected! Over the last 3 months, his guys worked continuously from about 8 AM to 5 PM most weekdays, and occasionally weekends. They installed an entirely new irrigation system, a beautiful paver patio, gorgeous timber pergola with stone columns, seating wall, and cabinet for an outdoor refrigerator and TV, new planting beds, sod lawn, dramatic outdoor lighting, etc... Bob checked in on a regular basis to make sure I was happy with his crew's progress, and to ask how I thought the project was coming along. Besides the concerns and desires I had outlined in my original plan, Bob and crew added a lot of little extras. They replaced an old valve cover in my front yard, retrenched and improved drainage in the backyard, laying extra new sod in our front yard, used leftover paving materials to create a new flat, dry storage area on the side of our house, replaced our old 1980's sprinkler timer, etc... They went way above and beyond what I expected. Even with all the little extras, RJQ Landscape and Design stuck to our initial quote. Now I have a low maintenance, beautiful backyard ready for entertaining. Bob and his employees were great to work with. I would definitely hire them again for any future projects. read more

I had a hill on my front lawn needing to be leveled and they spent 12 hours getting it perfect even though they had estimated only 4 hours were needed, I wasn't charged any extra. I was referred to RJQ Landscaping by another landscaper. He said they were very ethical, did great work and worked successfully with the Design Review Committee for Brookside. I worked with Bob and his outstanding team over a few months to put together the new design for my yard and get it approved by the Association. They were always timely, helpful and very creative. They did the presentations to the review committee and ultimately got almost everything approved. The work itself was done by another outstanding part of Bob's team. They not only did good work, but they cleaned up after themselves every day so I was able to enjoy my yard each evening. I met with Bob before we began our project and I'd first off like to say he showed up with a mask without me even having to ask, which I thought was very courteous. He was a great listener while I was going over mine and my husbands plan to do landscape in our backyard, side, and expand our driveway. We just purchased a new home so it was all dirt, and Bob had great ideas to add when we asked as well! Their team began promptly on the expected date and showed up each day first thing in the morning, and when things were delayed a day or two we always received noticed. His team was incredibly kind and always asked us if we were sure things were laid out the way we wanted before they continued. The project consisted of cement, irrigation/sprinklers, and lawn and they were done in just over a week despite having to wait for cement to pour (it was around a holiday AND fires were backing up supply). They cleaned up after themselves every day and I honestly couldn't be happier! I would HIGHLY recommend their work, and their team is so kind and helpful. my dad just bought a house in lodi and his sprinkler system is flooding and these people put it in so my thought he would call and see what they can do. bob started yelling at my dad and told him that he was too busy , it was not his problem and just being very rude to my dad. well we did get a hold of a place that doesn't yell at there customers. just like the post a few down,, the owner was doing the yelling. I would not recommend this company to anyone read more

I purchased a certificate at a silent auction for a 2 man crew to work for 4 hours. I needed the back yard prepped for new sod. I began calling them in mid February. My calls were put off, ignore went unanswered for quite a bit. Finally, I get this thing scheduled...but by then, I'd already hired someone else to do the backyard. However, I also wanted the very small plot in the front tilled and the grass roots pulled out as much as possible. All they did was weed whack it down to the ground and haul off the growth. No tilling. No roots removed. I have to hire someone else to come to do the job. It is such a small plot, I could've weed whacked it and loaded off the growth myself in a hour. I NEEDED it tilled!!! I was very clear about that! The only good thing is that the $$ I spent went to a good cause. As far as their work? I would never hire them nor recommend them. If you do, make SURE you are right there making sure they are actually doing what they are being paid to do. read more

What a terrible experience we had, we asked for a quote for our new homes backyard, we waited for 3 weeks to meet with the owner who's 1st visit was very one sided, he didn't listen to our "wish list " and came back with his teams rendering of what looked like a kindergarten rendering of their plan, not ours. While going over his plan it was obvious he didn't listen to a thing we had discussed in our meeting but non the less we expressed our concerns and dislikes and expected a revised version. A few days later we received a letter from RJQ stating they would not be able to work with us any longer, a letter, not a call not even an I'm sorry for sending this tasteless, classless letter to inform you of this choice. I decided to call and inquire about this and got a call back from the owner Mr.RJQ himself who cursed me for inquiring to his office and threatened me many times with vulgarity regarding my inquiry. We had Bob do our front and back landscaping. He had a plan for new sod, plants, lighting, and sprinklers. When he was finished, we had some plants we weren't sure about . Bob said that if within 6 months we wanted them replaced he would swapped them out. After 5 months I tried to get a hold of Bob. It took a number of messages and 2 weeks before I heard back from him. I just met with Bob and pointed out the plants that had hardly grown or we just did not like. We didn't even make it to the backyard, where the lawn has dead areas, and Bob bluntly said he was not going to replace any plants. I couldn't believe he was going to be like that. We paid well over $20k for his services and he treats us like that. I see other reviews were he was yelling at customers and now I just saw that side of him. Do not use this landscaper. I just got off the phone - because the owner was yelling at me. I thought I would give him the benefit of the doubt because the weather is hot, but when the owner of a company starts yelling at a customer- I need to tell everyone about it! I called him in March and we finally connected in April. I explained to him my deadlines and what was important "buying" criteria for me and he said no problem. He could meet my deadlines. I asked him these questions up front because I do have a deadline- and now 6 weeks later I am stuck without a landscaper- because I will not give someone $25,000- $50,000 of my money to have them yell at me - because he cannot deliver. If you are looking for a landscaper that yells at you, makes empty promises, and does not deliver- this is your guy. But I would not recommend him- at all.
