    two plates of sushi

This is the second time I've been here, but it has been awhile. Met a long time friend here and had such a wonderful time and experience! We were greeted right away and were seated at a booth. There were about two or three other tables that were occupied. Our server was great and attentive. She took our drink order right away - Sapporo and hot tea in a pretty black tea pot. The ambience was great, restaurant was very clean and neat. Our server took our food order shortly after bringing our drink order. Our salad and rolls were delivered very quickly and the presentation was beautiful! Restaurant was clean, service was great, and food was delicious. If you're looking for a place to eat in Alamo, make sure to check this spot out! What we ordered: Sapporo Hot tea Volcano roll Firecracker roll Side salad

    Volcano Roll

I've came here often and absolutely love it. I get the volcano roll and I highly recommend it!

Nothing but happy faces after dinner in front of RJ's

Food was delicious. The service was excellent. The ambiance is perfect. The owner and sushi chef, Ricky, and his staff are my favorite part. We had the VIP treatment. Guess it didn't hurt that RJ's favorite customer was in our group. I highly recommend RJ's.

I love this place. It's fresh and good. The tempura tacos were my go-to. The rolls are splendid and very filling. I enjoy the shrimp crunchy roll hold the soy sauce drizzle. Ask for it with a side of their wasabi mayo! It's mmmm mmm good. Tonight I the walnut honey roll. Mouth watering!

RJ's is located in a strip mall in Alamo, right on Danville Blvd. It is dark and intimate, with a sushi bar in the front, with two large flatscreens behind the chef. The food is Japanese-inspired for the most part, though they have some Korean and Singaporean items too. Overall - I give three star overall. Decent sushi and appetizers, awesome desserts, and just one flawed dish (it was returned and taken off our bill!). Service was wonderful! Appetizers: The Japanese Rock is a grill-it-yourself experience, with several thin slices of marinated rib-eye. The rock cooks the meat in seconds, and I found the meat juicy and well-seasoned. No need for their ponzu and teriyaki sauces which would be overboard. Their Crab Stack is a nice little tower of avocado, mango, and lump crab meat that you spoon onto a large crouton. Pretty light and refreshing. Garlic Edamame was excellent - garlic flavor permeated each bean all the way through. 4 stars. Sushi: I got the combo 6-piece nigiri with the Baja Cali Roll (Hamachi wrapped on the perimeter of a Californian Roll, made with real crab meat of course). Fish toppings were very fresh, and I liked the loosely-packed rice. Baja Roll had some acidity from the ponzu sauce, but I didn't quite taste the jalapeño for that Japanese-Mexican fusion. Still pretty good. 4 stars. Seafood Soba Stir Fry: Yikes this dish came drenched in sauce and was otherwise too salty for us to enjoy. After a few bites we sent it back and they took it off our bill. 2 stars for food quality. The dish had good amount of scallops and shrimp but that sauce permeated through the noodles and overpowered everything. Desserts: 5-stars! Their bitter dark chocolate-raspberry soufflé is worth waiting for, especially when paired with their organic ginger ice cream. Among one of the best desserts I've had in a fusion restaurant - even surpassing Roy's Lava Cake. Their Coconut Tapioca pudding was also nice - wasn't overly sweet, had a slight bit of tanginess, and big enough to share. Would recommend coming back for the appetizers and desserts! The sushi rolls are interesting. We would avoid anything stir-fried for fear of excessive sauce.

Sushi and roll lunch. Red dragon roll with chefs choice for sushi. There was 5 pieces. But I dug in before the picture

Poor service, over-priced, and mediocre food. Noticeably friendlier to some guests over others. Won't be coming again.

Can't say how Taru sushi's quality is but I'd love to try next time. I ordered their $34 combo chicken Katsu that comes with a bowl of udon (or you can choose soba), corn salad, cabbage salad, and rice. The portion size was just right for my daughter and myself that we ate literally everything and satisfactorily full. It is the best katsu I have had so far in my many katsu experiences. It is light, fluffy, crispy while juicy at the same time and the dipping sauce is just right. Next time I'd love to try their pork katsu. Every table tonight ordered katsu as what I observed. No wonder their katsu is featured at SF chronicle (that is how I found this place). Would love to visit again and take a drive.

For two adults and a seven year old child, we ordered a tempura udon, an edamame, a dragon roll, a tataki roll, 8 pieces of salmon sashimi, an order of toro nigiri, and an order of hamachi nigiri. Prices might seem a little high, but the quality and quantity of the food made up for it. The sashimi cut was extremely generous, each piece was more than half an inch thick. And instead of 8 pieces, we were given nine! And for the toro nigiri, instead of two pieces we were given three plus a small piece of sashimi. The hamachi nigiri was also really nice and big with a small amount of rice. Fish was really fresh and of high quality. The tempura udon came with a large plate of tempura. Besides two pieces of shrimps, there were yam, onion, eggplant, broccoli, green bean, and kabocha. There were also these fried tofu puffs in the noodles. The soup was slightly salty. The two rolls were both very tasty. Service was good especially because we were given extra food! Too bad I forgot to take pictures until we were almost done. I do recommend Taru Japanese Sushi & Cuisine.

Menu had several party tray options and I hurriedly placed the order online thinking I ordered a specific tray (D) with several raw fish rolls I liked but I had picked E which was mostly cooked. I called back asking if they can change it but they already made it so I decided to let it be. Upon pick up I saw that they had added a sashimi sampler on the house - wow what a nice and generous gesture! Very much appreciated that as well as the beautiful presentation of the tray. The cooked rolls were pretty good and I got to enjoy some of the sashimi with them. I'll definitely order from them again and this time will get the D tray. Thanks Ichiko for a great first time experience!

I finally tried this place and it was actually very good. Super fresh and tasty. It was very clean…read morein there, not the nicest lighting/ambiance but more casual vibes. I like just being left alone to order at the kiosk and take my time if needed. The one star off is because my order was wrong, the protein was right on the poke bowl, but not all the toppings were there and some wrong toppings. Also, one of my sauces was missing. I would have brought it back, but it's a waste to remake. I really don't want the item that was added in so that sucks a little bit. I think the guy should slow down and make sure he pays attention to the order since it's listed out/doesn't seem too hard. It's better to wait a minute longer and get the order right. They should get that handled because I imagine some people will want it remade to remove toppings they don't want and that's a total waste of their food. The only other thing that freaked me out a little is their seaweed salad turned the rice bright green right away which makes it seem like weird quality/food dye. That being said, it was delicious and seemed very fresh overall and I'll be back. But I will tell them to please make sure to put the right toppings on there. Recommend you check your orders before you go.
