First time here as a local in Danville, and went on a Friday night that is super busy, with at least four tables reserved (no one sitting), with tables full of patrons, and appeared to be either behind in service already, with 2 servers and 2 sushi chefs. We got seated within 5 minutes, and our order was taken after 15 minutes, and our order came 30+ minutes later. More people came and were willing to wait, so we thought we will give it a try, despite the wait. Ordered Cali roll, dragon roll (which in my opinion was a small serving/with smaller cut rolls) and we ordered with real crab too, which is an additional $4. Had the chirashi, and also seemed like a smaller serving of fish compared to the norm around the area. For the price (and I get inflation), we expected more for the buck. read more

We love the Danville Roll! Service is so attentive and kind. They are kid friendly with the chopstick helpers. We enjoyed sitting outside with the heaters. Only con for me were the restrooms. My husband & I just left this restaurant. Patrons who came in after us, two tables, had their orders taken before us. We drove 30 miles away to eat here very eagerly and excitedly. I ordered takeout after a long tournament down the street at San Ramon Valley High School. Based on the great reviews snd location, I decided to give it a try. I ordered 2 rolls, rainbow roll and a special roll they made me since they do not have cherry blossom or orange blossom rolls. I also got an 8 piece sashimi (tuna/salmon) and salmon teriyaki. When I picked up the food the total was $100 and change. I noticed the 8 piece sashimi was $35 and thought, damn thats expensive! Anyhow once I unpacked everything we were ready to eat. Rolls were pretty good but on the smaller side. Sashimi was thick cut and good as well. The salmon teriyaki the hubs said was okay, so I am guessing nothing special. He had to scoop off the pickled radish on top and pour the sauce before eating. Overall a good place if craving Japanese in the area but nothing that would compel me to return. read more

It was mediocre. Ordered california roll, butterfly roll and my partner got a chicken teriyaki bowl. There was no wow moment in any of our plates (other than the miso soup and salad) it was lacking in flavor and just tasted odd, not so fresh. Our server was very nice and understanding, as we complained about our meals, and they were the only one serving that night though it was slow on waiting for our meals which isn't the servers fault at all. $22 for a "large" chicken teriyaki plate with lacking flavor is a huge letdown... the butterfly roll tasted so strange as if i were consuming my body soap, so sweet its confusing I wanted to like this place. The pictures and many reviews looked promising but I wouldn't come here again for a meal. Disappointing as the decor with Transformers, Gundams, etc. were pretty cool to see for my partner and I. We took my boyfriend's parents to eat sushi, and it was surprisingly good! ***What we ordered **Hotate (Scallop) & Hamachi Nigiri (10/10) ~ The quality of the nigiri is fantastic. The Hamachi was fatty, and it melts in your mouth. It doesn't leave a weird fishy aftertaste. The hotate was delicious; it was so soft and flavorful I would highly recommend you try it! **Butterfly roll (8/10) ~ This came with Unagi, avocado, tempura crunch, and cucumber. This roll wasn't too bad! I wasn't sure if they added the cucumber inside because I couldn't feel the crunch texture while eating the roll. But, this was pretty good! **Kibo Roll (9/10) The Kibo roll came with tuna tartar, tempura shrimp, salmon, red onion, microgreens, and black tobiko! This roll had a nice kick to it! You wouldn't think it's spicy, but it is. The roll is super flavorful! I'd probably get it again. **I don't know Roll (10/10) For $21, the chef will create a roll for you, and it was AMAZING. I'm not sure what was inside; I think it was crab, shrimp tempura, and spicy ahi? But the sweet purée they dressed the roll with on the side made the roll 10000x better! I would get this again!!! I ordered some rolls through door dash (the only option) and made sure to order tuna rolls as I am deathly allergic to shellfish. When The roll came out- it had crab in the middle. I kindly showed them the menu and how there was no mention of crab on the menu. I asked if I could get something else as I can't eat that and they said the only way I could get something new was if I paid since it's my fault???? i asked if I am going to pay for a new roll can I get a refund on the roll I can't eat and they said it's not in their policy to refund anything. Another one I really wanted to like. But, alas this is a mediocre Japanese restaurant in a very competitive environment. The food was ok. Nothing much to write home about. But, I do love to support my local restaurants -- so we gave this one a try. The sushi was good, and fresh. The Ramen was mediocre at best. We had someone at our table that only eats white meat chicken (yes I know...) and Kibo could not accommodate him. No chicken teriyaki or chicken Katsu for him! Great neighborhood Japanese restaurant with good food, fresh sushi and friendly service! Our group of twelve enjoyed a wonderful dinner. We ordered a variety of dishes, sushi and sashimi. Everything was delicious and presented beautifully. My sashimi salad was so good. Fresh mixed greens were lightly tossed in a balsamic vinaigrette and topped with generous sized sashimi. Rolls are creative and well made. My son ordered the "I Don't Know" and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Great sushi spot for lunch. I'm surprised this place isn't more crowded. The quality and portions were on point. I got the lunch set D and subbed Cali roll for tuna. Came with poke, roll, and two pieces of salmon perfectly crispy on the inside and slightly under in the center--delicious. The service was great, and the place had only a few tables. They took my toddler's roll back and the sushi chef sliced it thinly so he could eat it. This was so appreciated, and something I want to do from now on (so annoying, I know). Chef Brandon and his staff have been diligent with following all state mandated protocols to ensure everyone's safety. I was simply asked what kind of fish I like, so I replied, Hamachi & Unagi. It turned out to be a remarkable sushi roll... it was so good, I can't even describe it! Then I watched the chef (we were seated at the bar) create this very elaborate creation called Uni Butter on scallop! It looked so good, we just had to try it, so we did! OMGosh is all I can say! I'd have to say that the freshness of the ingredients played a crucial role in the overall flavor and enjoyment of the dish. The natural flavors of the ingredients along with the light tempura covering just had the right balance of texture and flavor. went tonight as a 3 person party. the ambiance was nice and had fairy lights around ceiling of inside of restaurant. i liked the food very much and it was very unique. i would say come here if you like to try NEW types of sushi, but they don't do regular rolls like california rolls. my favorite was the Hoka roll. do be prepared for extremely different flavors than usual sushi rolls and expect to be served rolls with sugar as a secret ingredient. only small problem was it took a whole 25 MINS for an additional roll we ordered at the end of our meal, when there was only 1 other family in the restaurant. had a good time though and service was alright besides that. read more

Had a girls night here on a Friday, group of 7. We were seated outdoors and our reservation was at 630pm. The restaurant wasn't busy for dine in, not too sure about take out. Service was pretty slow considering the restaurant wasn't busy.. We ordered a bunch of rolls and sake. Unfortunately the sushi was underwhelming, I wasn't a fan and my whole table agreed. Staff was friendly, restaurant itself was small but outdoor seating was nice. There is a small parking lot that fills up fast and additional street parking. We doordash from here all the time and have dined in a few times as well. It is always very good and definitely the best spot in Danville (there is a lot of competition but none of them compare to kibo as far as fish quality and menu selections for both sushi/sashimi and non-sushi items). Even when we doordash the items like katsu and tempura always come super crispy and fresh. I have driven by here a few times and decided to come here with E on Easter based on the great reviews. Since it was Easter, the restaurant was near empty when we walked in at around 12:30 pm. We were immediately greeted and were told to sit anywhere we wanted. The stylist interior was comfortable and inviting. Cleanliness was impeccable. Seating was made up of about a dozen tables and there was a small sushi bar in the back. The lone TV was showing a Warriors playoff game, much to my delight. A young woman brought us water and menus. Their list of offerings wasn't very extensive so it didn't take us long to decide. I opted for their Lunch Set A with California roll, teriyaki chicken, and tempura while E got the Lunch Set D with spicy tuna roll, teriyaki salmon, and poki salad. Miso soup and salad were served before the entrées. The soup was nice and not too salty. The salad, made with mixed greens and a couple tomato slices, was refreshing. Both entrées were beautifully plated. Portions were on the small side. The California roll, made with imitation crab and avocado, was decent. The teriyaki chicken was delicious. The meat appeared to have been marinated in a green onion mixture prior. It was nicely grilled and sauced appropriately. The tempura featured one shrimp and a few different vegetables (loved the purple yam). It wasn't greasy and the batter was light and crunchy. E enjoyed her food as well. Our server was friendly and provided attentive service. With T/T, it was just under $40. I thought the food here was very good. The chef's attention to detail was well reflected in both the plating and the taste of the food. This is not your run-of-the-mill Japanese restaurant. Came here before the Summerfest in Danville. Wow! This place surprised me. They have nice decor and the restaurant clean and neat. The server was super nice and that was her day 1 working in that restaurant. She always check in with us. Make sure food were ok. We went on a Sunday and the restaurant was not full. Only 3-4 tables and we enjoy the peaceful lunch very much. First we did the yelp check in and got an order for crispy gyoza. Very crispy and come with 5. We ordered the Hartz roll and Hoka salmon roll. Both were so good. I wish I was more hungry so I could try more of their rolls! Definitely will go back.
